Today was the last of the May/early June holidays here (there are 4!!!)
I'm doing 7h on Zoom over two days this week, so it's an easy week.
It looks like DS3 is arranging to have his Stuff moved from here in early July. I'll buy a new mattress once his goes.
I have Book Club on Wed. Going out in the evening is SO much easier when it's light out!

This is interesting. This email is from the owner of the cleaning company. I'm not sure what I think about this.
We have recently transitioned Amy, Shawnee, from employees to 1099 contract employees. This change allows us to offer them better compensation, which we believe is key to maintaining high-quality cleaning standards and overall client satisfaction.
Please be assured that while Amy and Shawnee are now working as contractors, they continue to adhere to the high standards and practices our clients expect from us. As independent contractors, they are responsible for their own insurance and other related matters, which allows them more flexibility and growth opportunities within their professional lives.

I think this is screwing over Amy and Shawnee! Are you happy with their work? I'd be inclined to see if they wanted to work for you directly. Or go to another cleaning service if not. What does this owner think he is doing for them? They now have to pay all fica taxes on their own, plus get some kind of business insurance? This business will be losing their best cleaners over the next 6 months or so, that is for sure! They will either work directly for their clients or find another situation as a W2 employee. If I was you Chloe, I'd be inclined to contact the owner and ask what is actually supplying clients in this scenario. Or I'd just quit and say this doesn't work for me (after getting contact info for Amy and Shawnee if you want to continue with them).

Rukh O'Rorke some of them are religious holidays so they vary ... this year the last one (Pentecost) fell in mid May, not June.

At chez-rukh, I've still been dealing with my financial fallout. While I have a plump checking account right now, and have paid off all the extra debt I took on in April/early May, now at least I know I'm not in a good financial position on the month-to-month. My current take home on 2 paychecks per month doesn't cover the bare minimum. After mortgage and other debt payments, plus utilities, in April I only had $300 left for food and everything else. Spoiler! I spend more than 300/month on cat food, forget about food for me, lol!
In June, I'll get a bonus and raise - bonus will need to stretch until August when there is a 3 pay check month. In August I will start to have some treasury notes maturing, and will get 500/month into my checking account August through January. Also in August I will start to get my fall RI projects in.
The treasury notes are a bit sad! Those were suppose to be for retirement, and I had planned to have a 2-3-5 year ladder where I had 500/month maturing every month and even hoped to extend that to 1000/month if I could. Now, it is just going to be used for bills while I'm still working! Still - I am thankful they are there!
So - been cutting expenses and being careful with money. One thing is that I won't be spending much on the garden (and too late to plant any flower seeds I have, was going to get some trays of flowers). But I have been trying to be as ornamental as possible with my veggies! I have some large double sheppard hooks and baskets. I was very please with myself, planted them with cucumber and red malabar spinach seeds - thought that would look pretty good. But the baskets were way to heavy for the hook! lol!
I have some artichokes I am trying this year, and am planting okra as that is so attractive. Rainbow chard in pots, and urns, etc.
Might have to buy some flowers after all! Just a few!
Since I had a lot of left over seed packs, been trying to be as productive with the garden as possible, and have loads planted that will hopefully....bear fruit! I am quite close to the veggie/fruit production in the yard I always aspired to. But wow! So so so much work! I keep thinking just a little bit more and I'm done with the heavy lifting.....but it keeps going on and on and on!
Hoepfully - it really will save me a bunch of money this summer through fall. I guess we will see! The salads from early sowings of spinach and lettuce have been wonderful!
in terms of fruit: I have strawberries and currants looking very full. Usually lose these so will need to see about protections I can put up before ripening starts. Also seems I have finally had some success with getting ground cherries into the dirt on time and not died due to not wating in their starter packs and also having time to mature. never had them before. Have grape vines but have never gotten a harvest, cut back severely past 2 years - they were running amok for a decade or more. so will see if I get anything this year. They might need another year - but will see. Also trying watermelon again. Cuz - why not, I had the seeds. Have never been successful there, but got them started early enough I think and the weather is favorable early enough on. They are working on first true leaves right now.
In veggies, have load of tomato and pepper plants, mostly bell, eggplants, cuke and pickles, zucchini, celery, carrots, radishes, broccoli, chard, italian green beans, onion, garlic, a few shallots, lemon grass...oh and potatoes! Trying to get some sweet potato slips going off a sweet potato been in the basement since last year.
Not sure if I should try another kind of melon and some winter squash? will look at the packets...but where to plant, lol! That is the question! Running out of room, and I gave up not having any garden near the house, cuz the planning on the basement has been stalled with my mother in the hospital last month, taxes and financial strains, and work, etc. but thinking fall at this point so why not plant up?

I'm still muddling along. So far I only have peas planted in my garden but I did weed them again before they got choked out. I know that I will be fighting this vine ground cover that was planted in there by the previous owner FOREVER. Once I get a little bit more weeded I will plant my broccoli and cabbage starts. I would also like to grow from seeds some lettuce, radishes, green beans, carrots, and maybe some green onions. I also need to spray all my fruit trees. I spent this past weekend at Mom's and that is the best motivation for getting rid of things and getting things organized. She absolutely refuses to get rid of anything. I asked her if I could have the childrens folding table. With 4 grandkids running around regularly it would be put to good use at my place. She isn't ready to get rid of it yet and she might use it again. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/headbang.gif) I mentioned coming down and starting to help her go through stuff and she asked but what would you get rid of? You could tell that she didn't have anything at all that she would get rid of, so it just wasn't necessary. While I was at Mom's I bought two new pairs of shorts in the brand/style I like. When I got home I immediately removed two pairs of shorts that I don't like and placed them in the donation box. I don't want to be my Mom.

Well, I now have the fireplace working and the fuel tank was just filled to 80%. I have heat! I am going to phone the A/C & Heating company tomorrow if I don't hear anything today. I phoned them yesterday and nudged them again. Don't know what's going on but customer response is really low. I know they put out a flyer but that should not interfere with actual issues that have come up for other customers. Good news since it's a dreary and rainy day my painters are coming over to complete the laundry room ceiling. So 1 issue is resolved and the 2nd annoyance is going to be delt with soon. Just waiting on #3 to be resolved. In the meantime, I mowed the yard and weed wacked yesterday after looking at the forecast and I am grateful I did it. Rain is going to be happening on and off for the next several days.

I'm a 1099 employee, as are all of my subcontractor clients. There are good and bad sides. Yes, I am my own boss, but yes, the company for whom I work doesn't offer benefits and they can "fire" me whenever they want. My subcontractors like being 1099 as they work directly with their customers thus making themselves more money vs. making money for a boss. But then, they, too, have to worry about filing taxes, paying for their own insurance, etc.

It started raining about the time I finished up work for the day so instead of working in the yard I ran some errands. I took a box with 16 items in it to Goodwill, so that is out of the house. I also returned the last of the samples I had checked out for my bathroom re-do. I think I mostly have everything picked out.

Congratulations on your donation and for the bathroom project progress, Sharon. I've been trying to change my attitude regarding my dislike for mornings for productive purposes. This morning: -Took out the trash -Gas station -Mailbox -Already made 3 phone calls Tomorrow morning: -Walmart

Chloe, I don't think making the cleaners 1099 people is a good thing for them. Since they will have to now buy whatever supplies and absorb any other costs the company has been paying, this makes them have less pay in the end.
Whatever fringe benefits they might be getting are gone.
I would do what Rukh suggested. I would contact them and see if they would be willing to clean your place outside of the company. Yes, many of the cleaners will leave if other places treat them as employees. There is no reason for them to be under the umbrella of the company now. They are no longer insured for workmen's comp, etc.

Mystery solved ... there is a beautiful orange cat that hangs out in our garden, and who constantly asks to come in. He/she is clearly well-fed and not neglected. I'm highly allergic, and DDIL is extremely allergic, so I don't want him in the house. DH posted a photo of him/her in our local FB group. Someone local finally responded saying he's their cat, and he knows his way home. Very relieved! We do chase him away when he goes after DH's goldfish. (We have a tiny goldfish pond.) It was clear to me that he is well-loved, but DH has been fretting about him. A friend of ours in a nearby suburb takes care of a feral cat colony by her house. I do NOT want to do that (no offense Rukh O'Rorke ). So it was a huge relief to know that the orange cat has a home ... and even more of a relief to learn that it's a male LOL.

TheOtherMe know that we are all thinking of you and rooting for you. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/heart.png) I told Job 2 MONTHS ago that I wouldn't be doing fall semester there ... I got a text from one of my bosses there (I have two) a couple of days ago asking me to reconsider, and to take all the time I need to think about it. I texted back immediately, thank you so much for thinking of me, but my answer is still no. I really do want to work less at this point. No response ... I like these two women immensely, and they still do my schedule for the spring/summer orals I hope to continue, so I was a bit sad not to have had a response. Today I got a response from T, the person who texted ... "OMG I responded to you immediately, but just realized it didn't send! Good for you! You deserve to enjoy your time off!" What a relief LOL.

It's nonsense on its face. There are employees and there are independent contractors.
When the first sentence of a missive refers to something that does not exist, klaxons should go off in your mind and you should treat everything that comes next as similarly fanciful.

Today I did some of the easier chores: washing 2 windows and all 4 mirrors. If I have the energy I’ll scrub the bathtub tonight.
I had a good first interview for a director position today, second interview is Tuesday. Crossing my fingers for an offer and start in June.
The backyard is looking better and better while my front porch is collapsing. As soon as I can I’ll be getting it rebuilt but that, unfortunately, is going to take a few thousand dollars I can’t spare right now.

Many years ago I casually started collecting coins. I didn't get into that much but did have some collectable coins around the house. Today I took them to the coin shop and traded them for some nice folding money. I also returned a swimsuit that I ordered for DGS1. It said it was a size larger than last years swimsuit but when you held them up together they were the exact same size.

Feeling a bit relaxed today! Took the day off ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif) , it's payday, the market it up, and Monday is a holiday/off work so a 4 day weekend. Going to spend the early part of the day puttering in the garden, tidying up around the house a bit - but under a 'no pressure' situation. then will visit my mother and pick up some groceries on the way home. Plan to not leave the house then for the entire weekend! Been going big into iced tea lately So it will be me and iced tea in the garden for most of the time....

well - it is official I am definitely cursed.
Was just strolling through the garden with an iced coffee, thinking what a great day to do my next round of transplanting. Warm, still, but clouded. I had a watering can and was just giving the containers and recently seeded or transplanted plants a morning drink before I went inside and finished up my coffee and put the iced tea on to brew and plan my day in more detail.
And out of nowehre, for no reason my back just seized up. I was like - that can't be happening....I'm not doing anything except carrying a smallish watering can, might be a 1/2 to a gallon....but I do this every morning, carry this can all around with a beverage. I'm just crushed. I took ibuprofen and wedged myself carefully into a long hot shower, gave my lower back a few light cold dowsings, but not sure how I am going to get myself dressed. I'm still able to walk about so that is good. This has happened sometimes where I am bedridden for a day or 2 with severe pain at any movement and going to the bathroom is a major event. So - this is not that thankfully. Or maybe just saying that will have someone from on high spite me with it worsening.
Will give it an hour or so and take more ibuprfen if I can't get dressed without a lot of pain. Maybe I will just take it now. One of my doctors said I could take 4 at a time for some pain for a few days, and in dec my liver was good. so maybe I will take some more now...
Not sure if I should drive to see my mother or not. The heated seats sound like a bit of a treat to be honest....why did this happen on a vacation day I took? if this happened yesterday i could have taken sick time, of which I have 6 or more weeks banked and trying to use more.
oh well! I do need some food before the weekend or will need to shop sat/sun. Will take some more pills and see where i am in the next hour or so.

Rukh - I hate back issues. Hope yours clears up fast.
New housecleaning crew is fantastic. Super polite, had to tell the one not to worry about saying sorry for every little noise lol. Taking them third session to deep clean to catch up on what other lady was skipping. Particularly the base boards which I'd started noticing looked really dirty. The owner texts about 3 hours after she leaves to make sure I'm satisfied. Even DH is really pleased and no complaints about extra cost.
Plus I'm also feeling motivated to stay on top of things since my slow depression spiral has stopped. Told DH that I'm not spending my summer redoing the same reset tasks over and over again. He and the kids better put stuff away. He agreed that he's noticing my hard work and will put in the same effort and help hold the girls accountable so it's not just me griping at them.

I have both heat and air conditioning today. I managed to get groceries and a few other things and am back home.
Not sure what my plans are for the weekend. It's overcast and dreary with sprinkle/rain periodically.

Fingers crossed, startsmart! Good job with the coins, Sharon. azucena glad your new crew is working out. And glad DH is on board. I WFH yesterday and started working on my home office/reading fort: -Something that has been on my to-do list for a few years: Using the step stool, I checked the top of the closet shelf for anything that might have been shoved behind other items there. Only dust was found. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif) The step stool was moved to our bedroom to do the same thing in the walk-in closet. -Cleared the books from off the top of my roll top desk and put them in the closet bookcase. -Relocated two candles to the master bathroom for DH to enjoy during his baths. -Moved the oscillating fan to the opposite corner of the room. -Moved a side table in order to lay down and open the chaise lounge box. I LOVE the color! I propped the cushion against the wall and Febrezed it because it has the new furniture smell and not in a good way. The base will have to wait for DH as it is a majority of the 90 pounds. -I later fluffed and folded Sunday's towels, scrubbed two toilets, did dishes, refilled ice trays and the Keurig, wiped down the stovetop, did a bit of reading, made a bachelorette supper consisting of an air fryer blue cheese burger patty and veggies with a finely shredded cheddar popcorn dessert. This morning: -Put out the trash can for pickup -Went to Walmart, the post office and liquor store Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Thanks all. did all my visting and errands, spent about 1 hour out of the last 2 or so in the car with the heated seat turned up, doing pretty ok now at home. Proceeding gingerly but right now just seems achy rather than seizing up anymore, so that I think is good.
Got some quick meal stuff while shopping, going to take it pretty easy and hope I can be more active tomorrow.

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better Rukh O'Rorke ! Great work with the coins Sharon ! Work week over on Fri, which is rare for me. One of my Admin students had a work emergency so I spent an extra hour on Zoom with her today. It was fine but given her late night email I assumed it would take hours, so I didn't sleep much last night. I got a haircut today. (I get my hair colored every other haircut.) Laundry and dishes caught up.

Using the step stool, I checked the top of the closet shelf for anything that might have been shoved behind other items there.Iggy aka IG I think I've told this story here before ... when we had our kitchen redone (eight years ago!) there was a small niche in a corner that the contractor had planned to close off. He very awkwardly said to me, um, I usually close that little space off ... but I couldn't help but notice that you're, um, not very tall. (I'm 5'2.) He said, um, some clients like me to leave it open, because it's actually the perfect space for a step stool. He was so sweet and so hesitant about pointing out that I'm short (I actually knew LOL!) In the end he DID leave it open, and our step stool and collapsible laundry basket live there.

I’ve been busy decluttering weeds in the garden and not much inside. The weather has been mild and nice so I’m out there every day. Once I got most of the weeds out I mowed and edged this week and now it’s mostly upkeep.
I do have 2 areas that still need to be weeded but they’re both in the shade all day so I’m saving those for when it gets hotter. The pool is about halfway filled and Lincoln loves walking and splashing in the water. I plan to get in this weekend for the first time this season.
