Today my back is just ok, still achy and I'm being very careful with but can do a little bit of everything. Not taking any more meds, so it is definitely improving. Took a nap yesterday afternoon and had decent sleep last night and trying to be as produtive as I can.
Googling up the back thing, seems this is just another message from the universe that I am not taking care of myself like I should. I keep telling myself I am going to start doing better and it just isn't happening. At this age, I know I won't bounce back like in younger years and I need to have a better plan for myself. Will try to work on this a little bit more this weekend, and then see about scheduling some more time off in June.
Have a birthday cookout to attend late afternoon/evening, and then Sunday and Monday are mine.
Will try to make some headway on the garden and household cleaning before going to the cookout. Don't expect any/much vegan gf fare so don't plan to stay too long, but gardening will be out for afterwards. Have a movie to finish tonight that I am looking forward too.

Good morning! I hope all of you are having a good day and that all is well with you. I am currently working on laundry and have the first of two loads in the washer. I have not been as productive this week as I rolled my ankle last weekend and have been trying to ice and elevate it as much as possible. I have been trying to follow all the progress going on with all of you. Despite several setbacks, all of you have made some progress towards your goals. And that is what counts.
I have completed the following
* Put a stop mail request in * Paid the lawn service bill * Attended the last Wednesday meeting for a few months * Participated in a craft show on Thursday * Mailed off sales tax forms to state * Packed for my Craft retreat -- Except for those last minute items * Finished the crochet project * Made progress on the bead project -- hope to work on that one a little more today and before I leave. * Ran the dishwasher and kept up with house routine chores. * Small grocery pickup *
Upcoming: * Run Dishwasher and do laundry * Change bed linens -- Tuesday * Call/Text J -- Birthday Tuesday * Notify my neighbor in case mail is delivered (before I leave) * Travel & Craft Retreat
Postponed: * Schedule a nail appointment -- Mani/Pedi (Figured it would be better not to have someone working near damaged ankle for a while.)

I was going to order a Bissell green machine to clean carpets. H. decided to clean the winter coats our of the closet so we could put it in there. Yes, it fit. We have a large box to donate. I'm finding it difficult to donate H's dad's insulated coveralls. I bought those for him when he lived in Texas in case the heat went to heck. After his passing I brought them home. I did wear them on some bitter cold days.
I was going to donate old glasses then decided against it. I wear prescription glasses now so all the sunglasses, reading glasses, and safety work glasses are not used but its easier to have them all in a clear box just in case.
I'm trying to find my Koretech that reads BP and HR. My fit bit doesn't measure those. I won't pay for the next level.

It's been a quiet weekend (which is a good thing!) WFH tomorrow, then 10h days at school Tues and Wed (plus the commute) doing interviews. I'm working MUCH MUCH more than planned this semester. Ugh. PS As long as I'm working I pay 110 euros in complementary health insurance/mo for DH and I on the group plan, instead of 330 euros outside the plan. That's definitely another motivating factor. But I never planned to work this many hours! I'm cutting down again in fall ... I was considering giving up my fall class. DS1 says I should keep it. He says I'll be off for 7 weeks in summer, and we're not planning to go anywhere in the fall besides London. DS1 thinks I should keep the class, get the additional salary, and enjoy the lower health insurance costs until Jan. I do see his point. That class would mean going in one day/week, for 9 weeks from early Sept to late Nov. That's definitely doable. I'm just fed up right now. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/sad.png) I'm finally getting stricter about NOT taking on too many hours going forward.

Yes TheOtherMe he does. I had honestly never considered that before. I won't do it forever, but I can do it till the end of the year. I'm not sure how that insurance will work once I stop doing regular classes. They may keep me on the school plan anyway for the professor/staff classes, but I'm not sure. There's no point asking so far in advance.

In better news, I played with DH's band yesterday for the first time. I've been taking lessons for over a year, but I was always too shy/nervous to actually play with them.
I had nightmares all night about them kicking me out and telling me to come back when I learned to play.
That didn't happen!!! I managed to play with them for three hours. Then DH and I came home, had a late lunch, and I crashed on the couch for 3 hours lol.
I have a LOT of progress to make!!! But I'll get there! It feels so good to have "passed the audition" and feel like I have a project!
I was taking lessons EOW, but they have two concerts in late June, so I changed it to every week a few weeks ago.

Believe it or not, congas!
Their drummer left. One of their guitarists also plays drums, but he can't be there all the time, so they needed someone else to do percussion. The original plan was for me to learn to play drums. We decided that was too ambitious. Then DH's best friend J remembered that DS1 had played congas in HS, so we dug them out of the basement.
I used to play piano and a bit of guitar MANY MANY moons ago ...
ETA: I was absolutely floored at how difficult it was at the beginning ... it looks so easy! But your right hand needs to do one thing, your left hand needs to do another, and your foot needs to do something else.
I'm hoping it will also stave off dementia LOL. (I'm only half joking about that.)

I had so many grand plans for all the things I wanted to accomplish this weekend, the universe had other ideas. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/rofl.gif) I slept a lot and do feel better this evening. Today I did reorganize the dreaded tupperware cupboard. First thing was to remove everything off half of the shelf and remove the bottom part of what was probably a pot rack or some kind of sliding shelf mechanism. There were only 3 screws holding it in there so another one of those projects where you wonder why did it take me so long to do this. By removing that thing now everything can sit flat on the shelf. A new goodwill donation box has been started. There was also one partial box of kitchen related stuff that had been hanging out in the garage, it is now mostly empty.

I spent the weekend in Maine at YDB's beach house. It was wonderful. On our return I was putting some things in the basement and decided to take one last look. I found my summer clothes! They were on a shelf in 2 underbed storage containers that would not fit under either bed. So we're off to a start, going through clothing.
The house needs cleaning. Will straighten out the living room and primary bedroom and kitchen; the rest will have to wait for awhile.
I have a mammogram and bone density scan this afternoon. I'm embarrassed at how long it's been since my last mammogram--more than 10 years, I think. It was too easy to procrastinate making the appointment. My new PCP is the take-charge type and just had appointments set for me.
THis weekend is a show. I don't expect much, but we may as well, as it's down the block and across the street. THen no shows until the last Saturday in June, then 2 or 3 a month until early November. It's going to be demanding. I hope sales break wide open.

debthaven that is a cute contractor story. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif) And congas for three hours? Respect! Same here with the rain, TheOtherMe! Nice list as always, moneysquirrel! I hope your ankle feels better soon. Artemis Windsong I also store our vacuum in the coat closet. Good job on the cupboard, Sharon. finnime your weekend away sounds luxurious. It was a weekend of socializing with graduation, birthday, and Memorial Day gatherings. I did manage to borrow DH for a few minutes to help me with the chaise lounge box. The company packages it very cleverly. The chair arms and back were zippered inside the base. Once they were all separated, I sprayed them with Febreze. And there they sit, LOL. Similar to Sharon, last week another thing I had been putting off is move never used air fryer components to the lower slide out shelf and moved more often used things such as the food grater and chopper to the upper shelf. I'd been thinking about doing so for several months.

I had such great hopes for these past six months after posting on the very first page here only to have nothing to show for. I feel as if I jinxed myself instead of encouraged. Something inside me is just very good at sabotaging me. I am keeping up with the daily/weekly maintenance to a degree I’m ok with, so it is more about those bigger and longer term projects. I have even added some smaller ones and completed those but cannot get myself to embrace the big and dreadful basement. It’s been years and being out of sight makes it easier. It’s just annoying that it keeps dragging on.
I have tried breaking it up in smaller chunks, I have tried figuring out how to make it fun, I had all kinds of ideas, but nothing gave me the motivation or push to even start. And now I’m looking at the second half of the year not sure that this will be the year I was hoping it would be. Hmmm 🤔

anciana I feel you! The basement was the bane of my existence for decades, and a frequent source of arguments with DH. It's still a mess, and it's mainly DH's mess. But I finally decided to channel my inner Queen Elsa and "let it go" for my own sanity. I decided that as long as the upstairs was to my standard, I would live with the messy basement (our only storage space). I don't know what you have there. We also have some of our adult kids' stuff, including some furniture and what DS1 and DD took from their late grandparents' apt. DS1's stuff (and a small desk for DD) will move out on 3 July. We finally got a confirmed date for DS1's move today! DH REALLY wants a workbench ... he knows he'll get the workbench after he organizes his Stuff. He actually seems very motivated, but we'll see. All this to say, sometimes there's an event or outside force that can (hopefully) move things along. Wishing you the best! Please post more often if it's a help rather than a burden. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif) ETA: I'm not sure how old your kids are ... could they help? Could you "bribe" them?

You know how much better I felt about my house when DN3's belongings were removed from my basement.
There is one room full of stuff there but with all of the health issues I am dealing with at present, that will wait until next year. I intend to hire someone who will carry it to a dumpster and haul it off. It's been sitting in that room for 15 years and I have not used it. Obviously, I do not need it.
If we find the valuable neon, I will sell it. If we don't, we don't.

Thank you, debthaven, it’s me that’s the problem with stuff in the basement. Kids’ old clothes and toys that I need to organize and donate. The problem is that I know I will agonize over the memories tied to the stuff and have a hard time letting go. I think with some time, it’s gotten easier, there’s some distance so should try again soon. Also, with summer longer days, it should be easier to sort through the stuff as it’s not dark and cold. And I should definitely post more often, I am always glad when I do 😀

anciana That is where hiring the organizer really helped me. She had no emotional attachment to anything I owned. Knowing time is money, after the first session, I got very good at making decisions. My sister has not been able to get rid of anything from her kids' childhood. Now she gets out plastic toys for them to play with and they disentigrate in her hands. So they are worthless. You can do it.

anciana another thought ... remember you don't need to keep everything, but you don't need to get rid of everything either. There's nothing wrong with keeping a few precious items of clothing or toys from each of your children. JMO of course! Someone gave DD (now nearly 32!) an Yves St Laurent baby girl bathing suit ... I kept it, because it was absolutely adorable. Passed it on to DS1 for DGD. DS1 and DDIL are moving soon, and they're both quite ruthless. Found out later that DS1 kept two bags of "really nice baby clothes for my siblings to use when the time comes" and that bathing suit is in there. Also turns out that those bags are now in my basement too LOL. I'm fine with that. I need DH to go through his parents' Stuff, which arrived here on 31 Dec 1999. I wish I were joking!!! I keep telling DH, "when everything is sacred, nothing is sacred." I can't remember where I heard that ... DH still doesn't "get" that, but I think it's a good thing to keep in mind while decluttering. I also kept some of my kids' nice wooden toys (but not the plastic ones). I kept some puzzles and memory games. I put them on wooden shelves in the basement. When my grandkids come, we go "shopping in the basement" for toys for them to play with while they're here.

Thank you Debthaven!
The interview went well and they’ve already sent me the next step to complete a background check. In a very small town move as I walked to the interview a friend stopped me in his car to offer me fresh eggs 😂

At one time, mom gave us a chance to go through what she had kept for us. I took some things and didn't others. I'm sure my sister did the same. When she passed, she had saved one pretty dress and a jacket for each of us. I had no idea she had kept them. They were in the very back of her closet.
I assume those were the two pieces that meant the most to her. I have not and will not toss those.

debthaven and Iggy aka IG and others -- Thanks for your concern. My ankle is much better. Still not 100% but no pain when walking. Several colors other than normal but not as colorful as last week. I did purchase an ankle stabalizer as a precaution as I will be doing a bit of walking in the airports. Giving it a lot of rest and icing it those first few days helped. Also allowed me to make a lot of progress on those projects. Crochet one is completed and a lot was done on the beading one. Upcoming: * Run Dishwasher and do laundry * Change bed linens -- Tuesday * Call/Text J -- Birthday Tuesday * Notify my neighbor in case mail is delivered (before I leave)* Travel & Craft Retreat debthaven -- The idea about the insurance is a good one. As long as you are ok with the work load. Also congrats as to the audition. startsmart -- Great news about the interview. How everything turns out as you wish. anciana -- Good luck with the basement declutter. Work a little at a time and know that it might take several passes before it gets to the point you want. Most of us have been attempting this journey for a while and it is amazing how things we once couldn't part with are now quite easy to let go. Start with a small area and once that is somewhat done than move on. Small successes help to spur one on. Sharon --You are making a lot of practice. Iggy aka IG -- You are making the most out of every weekend and I am sure during the week as well. finnime -- Glad you had a great weekend. Good luck on the upcoming shows. I find that summer shows are very slow. There are no reasons for people to purchase as in the fall when some are looking for gifts. Always grateful when something sells during any show but especially during the slow period. I am going to try to turn in early tonight as tomorrow will be busy. Will check in after the retreat.

Fantastic news startsmart !!! And too funny about the eggs lol. Enjoy your trip moneysquirrel ! The workload is a bit more than I'd have liked but I'll cut down a lot more in January. After another long day (leaving at 7.15 am and getting home at 7.30 pm) my work week is finished!!! I'm looking forward to the next "chunk" of two easy weeks.

Iggy aka IG - a friend tried to give me an air fryer and I declined because of the size. We have our favorite meals. I also bought an Instapot that I used a couple of times and haven't used in a year.

I took another small load to goodwill today and dropped of a bag of bottles/cans for redemption. My major score was a rolling/locking tool chest. In my previous house there was a 6 drawer cupboard in the garage that I kept my tools and the other stuff you need (screws, nails, etc). That was left behind when I moved. For the past two years my tools have just been sitting the moving boxes and I would paw through them until I found what I wanted. The lady stacked my coupons and I got $55 off
