Don't know why I am up so early. I do need to get a few things done before my DSis comes over later today. I have packed away all travel items for the time being. I have another trip at the end of the month -- a craft retreat -- but I do carry on only and don't need to have luggage lingering in the meantime.
I am repurposing my suitcase with the broken telescoping handle into a craft show container. I use old luggage to move things to and from the craft shows. I have a show next weekend so I will see if this one can do the job. I do have one item that I want to finish before then. I have enough items on hand so I am not rushing around to get a lot of new things completed.
House is pretty much under control. I have a few items left on the flat surfaces of the BR -- that seems to be my dumping ground. I should be able to relocate the majority of them today. I also have to tackle the paper clutter that is living in that room as well. I may be able to shred some of it and others are things I will have to file. I try to shred as I go but some of these I kept as they seemed important at the time.
This Weekend's Goals: *Run Dishwasher *Several loads of laundry *File/Shred the pile *Finish craft project *Clear all flat surfaces *Repot several plants *Stretch goal -- reorganize my closet
Time to get some breakfast into me. Till later

for the times they are a-changin' I thought you would get a little laugh out of this: As you probably have noticed I am giving away quite a bit of stuff through the local FB buy nothing group. As a result the offers from others show up in my feed. This morning someone offered 8 rolls of TP. My guess is they are moving but who knows they might just have been bored and looking for some cheap entertainment. Either way people jumped all over it with their "me, me, me" like their calendar is stuck on 2020. The pleas of "I can really use it" and "thank you sooooo much" were quite amusing and made me think they have been permanently thrown into TP hoarding mode.

azucena , I think a text would be fine but I also think you'd be doing her a favor by letting her know that her service level has changed and not in a good way lately. She's trying to run a business and would want to know, I'd think. I hear you but I feel like I tried telling her directly and this younger guy is somehow related to her so it's messy. Before things went south, I gave her glowing references about twice a month so did my part to build her business. I'm gonna give me and my anxiety grace and text. I need to rally and call Trifling Nut about bonus teen's medical needs tomorrow so my energy is better spent there. I agree azucena, and I think it is very different when it is an independent operator. In some sense - if they can't readily see the issue then they aren't qualified. If they see and don't correct, then they aren't someone you want working for you. If they routinely do a great job and then sometimes aren't as good due to whatever internal reason I think that is fine. But if it is consistently under par I just don't see the point in trying to train them or something. They came to you and said they knew what the job was and would do it. I figure when you any service person that is their own owner/boss - it is on them to show you what they are offering. With my last cleaner I had made a few gentle requests. I bought a new product, showed her how and where to use it and she didn't use it! smileshop.scrubdaddy.com/product/damp-duster/and showed her the dust on the rails in the middle of the windows (little ledge where the lock is on old fashioned windows with top and bottom pane and the bottom pain slides up to open. It's like a little sill). Anyway so I bough the product when I had previously texted her I wanted her to skip the upstairs and do a deep clean downstairs include oven and fridge and bought some products and stuff for it. She didn't clean any differently and did not dust that part of the window I showed her. She also did not do oven or fridge! The next time she came I pointed out the handle for an upper cabinet that was a bit gunky and said don't forget these. I think she did two of them and not the rest in the kitchen. I think that is when I was really done! I figured she showed me what she was willing to do for the money, and it was not worth it to me. How she conducts her business otherwise is not my concern.

Isnt there a grace period for the loans - you may have to pay a penalty or is this past the grace period? those hooligans already drew the money early! Got a notice I was deep negative in my checking....I really rely on auto payments but they can bite you in the bum. To my mind - if the payment is due on a sunday, they should have gone for Monday, not saturday for the draw if they couldn't/wouldn't do it Sunday - but we know they are hella unethical these student loan machines... I got the checking covered by dubious means. Will be on tenterhooks until I get that check, get it to the bank, and it gets cleared for use. I am drowning right now. Not sure if I mentioned it previously but the reason everything is going off the rails is I had some bills from the house design project that I was planning on using the RI check, but I went ahead and paid them with my paycheck money thinking the RI money would be in before the end of April. Of course the universe pounded my tiny hiny for that!!

Slowly but surely. Two grocery bags full of crafts odds and ends were put on FB buy nothing and now they have been picked up. They are gone, gone, gone...
Also hundreds of bay area residents by now know what the top of my stove looks like as that is my "staging area" for all those items I give away LOL

Well most of the fountain is gone, and I'm not happy at all. The ad said you dismantle, you load, you haul, must take all. They ended up cherry picking what they wanted and left what they didn't want. I was asked about dumping smaller pieces of slate into the hole where the large pool for the pond had been and I said no, after they left I found a bunch of pieces of smaller slate and some bricks down in the hole. My garbage can is also full of the liner they didn't want. Underneath the slate was built up with cement blocks and pavers etc in various assorted sizes, those were all left behind.
DD and I went to the tile store today and we pretty much have my bathroom figured out. I just need to figure out a new vanity and what I want to do about flooring. Instead of the really nice, read very very expensive, natural stone tile I liked I went with a considerably cheaper ceramic tile. I do like the tile, so don't feel like I really compromised, it is just a totally different look. Then I allowed myself to pick a more moderately priced band of natural stone that will go around the middle of the shower and also be used on the back splash. The lady at the tile store was very helpful. It was a different lady than had been there before. DD and I were looking at counter tops and she suggested that we go with this other brand because you only had to pay for the size you needed. The brand we were looking I would have been committed to buying a whole slab for my 4 ft by 2 ft counter top. The counter will be quartz. DD and I worked today and finished up her camp stool for her closet. Then we worked together and got most of the scratching post recovered with some carpet I had leftover from a project at my former house. The old carpet from the scratching post and the leftover carpet from the project is now in the garbage.

Sucks about the Fountain situation Sharon2 chairs are one along with the coffee table for the outdoor seating. I am leery about starting the loveseat as my fingers and hands are sore.

Rush- sorry to hear you're so money stressed. I wish banking would catch up to modern Era and just include sat and sun for autopay things. There is no human involvement needed so weekend shouldn't exist online.
Chloe - what 2 things do you want to get done in family room today?
I spent two hours on front landscape and am so happy with how it looks. My few years of investing in perennials and splitting ground cover over and over are paying off.
Today going to limit myself to 2 hours in backyard. It rained again which makes weeding Easy! Plus I need to focus on getting purchased plants in the ground and not get hung up on cleanup.

Planned to sort through old flower pots under the deck. Throw out the plastics, buy annuals and put in deck in pottery planters. But will have some remaining. What to do with them? Leave at curb maybe? Anyway, cold and drizzles so put off to another day

I'm still cleaning and organizing, returning everything to its old (or new) rightful place. Also setting aside a bunch of stuff for Buy Nothing.
I finally figured out how to arrange and decorate the two spare bedrooms. I ordered a new queen bed platform and mattress (link is above in one of my previous posts), should arrive here this week. In the other spare bedroom, I changed up the quilted coverlets on the two twin beds. I love the pattern of those coverlets and wished I had bought more accessories to match when I had the chance. Luckily I found some matching pillow shams on closeout. I think I mentioned I have way too many bed linens. As I was washing sheets and making up the twin beds, I decided to remove the comforters (one polyfill, one down) and put them on the beds underneath the coverlets. I know it's summer but I have no immediate expectations for any overnight guests and it helped me free up some closet space. Now I just need to wait for the shams to arrive and I can get that room done. While in that closet, I was reminded that I have three zippered bags of throw pillows, some of which I can't foresee ever using again. Time to add them to the Buy Nothing collection.
With the new LVP flooring, I need some sort of rug for my own bedroom. I found a suitable rug, which is backordered. But it was on sale, so I ordered it and am in no particular hurry for it to arrive.
I'm also making progress on the tile backsplash selection. I was reading reviews on the tile I like, was a little worried it would blend too much and wouldn't look like much but I also don't want anything too bold. The pictures look great, there is variation in the tile to give it depth, and someone suggested ordering a box to see the range of variations. Great idea. I have a box on order. Once that's done I have to move ahead with bathroom tile (floor and tub area), vanity selection, etc.

Leave at curb maybe? Anyway, cold and drizzles so put off to another day This time of year, I'd venture to put the plastic pots out on the curb too. Might as well give it an easy try to rehome them rather than trash them. Cleaned up a bunch before theater post-improv show party friday night. This year's group skews much younger than last year. Nearly every teen personally told me and/or DH thanks for hosting and feeding them. However, they only halfway picked up after themselves. Last year, our basement would legit be cleaner after parties than before. Going to have to tell DD15 that she needs to be a leader in that dept and train this group of young'uns. DH found a deal on glass bottles of root beer and cream soda. Several of the freshmen boys were chanting SODA in the back yard and clinking bottles. It was pretty stilly. Feeling decently motivated at home and work, so staying on top of house chores better than I had been. Also helps that I don't want bonus teen to think we are slobs lol.

I planned to weed and sort the pots on the outdoor shelves too, but it was too cold. It's been raining nearly every day for weeks. It's much needed, but it's getting depressing. I'm at Job 2 on Mon and Tues, and off the rest of the week. (Wed and Thurs are holidays here.) Hopefully the weather will be better by then. DS3 arrives late Wed night and stays till Monday.

Also ... I checked out Costco mattresses. They don't seem to sell mattresses here in France.
I have a bunch of mattresses in my Amazon basket, but the descriptions are very inconsistent. IE it'll say medium firm in the title, and firm lower down, or vice-versa.
So I've decided to leave it for now. I'll keep checking Amazon, but we'll probably just go to the store we used for our rental at some point.
I am VERY happy we got the new base though!

As I'm planting this spring. I'm decluttering anything I'm not actively using. Seed packets I'm not going to use this season. Duplicate hoe. Rose fertilizer bc our roses got blight so we took them out.
Sure wish cleaning up the garage only needed to be once a year.

the rollercoaster continues.....but near the end of this ride! I spent the night on the couch as the fedex tracking said arriving before 8am.....I woke up at 7 and checked the tracking....no updates. Woke up again at 8:30 in a panic....checked online, said delivered, rushed to mailbox and it was empty! Looked around and down and they placed on the porch not in the box! It was just a large cardboard envelop....could have blown away, so clueless as to why they didn't pop into the mailbox. I got myself together as quickly as I could, and to the bank for deposit...I was overdrawn again by an unexpected autopay, but luckily the odd 250 they credit on deposit is more than covering that and I think despite going negative 3-4 time the past week or so, I will avoid any fees as I always got the money into the account within a few hours. And weirdly, my checking account still has every as pending....student loans, deposit to cover the loans, the cc payment, and todays deposit. 24-48 hours before all funds are available and I start digging out of the hole! However, pertinent to this thread I had a super productive weekend fueling that anxiety into yard and housework! Yesterday I got started on the floors, was just going to do the kitchen but kept on going, sometimes not even sweeping the area. Love that murphy's oils soap smell. I felt like I should clean the rooms before mopping but I just kept doing it and it did help alot! Also did some baseboard and chair rail, wiped down a wall in the kitchen near the trash and blender that gets spotted, some kitchen cabinet wiping, and the counter top scrubbed. Most cleaning I've done in a while! Maybe spring fever? Will see if I have any more left in me today. I just kept mopping and mopping and my legs were aching it was late, I was hungry, I told myself to stop a dozen times but I kept going. Legs still ache today, finally made dinner at about 11pm last. Guess I just need to do it when I have it in me. Welp - spring cleaning is underway at Rukh's place. and boy - was it needed! Felt good walking into the kitchen this morning for coffee.

I have pots in the garage and am going to transplant a fern that is growing in a not great area.
Re-doing the beds in the guest room
I have a few boxes in my bedroom. Today 1 or 2 are getting emptied.

Rukh O'Rorke you earn a great salary, and it makes me sad to see you so stressed out about money. I hope that the Rukh Inc check comes in, and that the garden takes off! thanks! I am puzzled about it all for sure! I am still maxing retirement but will wait to see what raise I get before scaling back. I think it is inavoidable to cut back, but I'll see. With the inflation and higher taxes, it sure doesn't go as far as you think it is going to go. debthaven - the other thing I just thought of today is that I alos have extra taxes taken out of my dayjob check to cover RI taxes. Last year did way too much and got 2500 back so scaled back on fed, but added some for state as I owed state. Not sure if this is the best way to handle this. The alternative I think would be to just pay dayjob taxes at dayjob, and then do estimately quarterly payments on whatever RI income I get. That seems so complicated to me! TheOtherMe - wondered if you had any thoughts on how to best do this?

It can be done either way, as you know. When I worked at the church as a Schedule C, I did the withholding through my pension, but the income was about the same month to month so it was easy to estimate what I owed taxes on.
Your RI income fluctuates. In that situation, I would consider paying ES taxes on it. You know your costs and how much profit there is. You probably make enough at the day job not to have to pay SE taxes. If you can put reminders on the calendar so you actually make the ES payments, I would consider it.
If you think it's too complicated, then don't do it.

The IRS loves that kind of thing I know!

Updating: This Weekend's Goals: *Run Dishwasher *Several loads of laundry *File/ Shred the pile*Finish craft project *Clear all flat surfaces -- Were cleared but filled up again *Repot several plants*Stretch goal -- reorganize my closet -- not a chance ADDED: Also mopped the floor in the kitchen, filled the ice cube trays and worked on a different craft project.I managed to tackle several items this weekend. This morning I got two items packed up for the craft show this weekend. Would like to complete one or two more earring sets before this weekend's craft show. Also have two projects that I am working on for me in addition to the ones I want to complete for the craft shows this month. We have two scheduled. Think I can get a few more items off my list once I sign off the computer.

Yay for your intuition Iggy aka IG !!! Enjoy your friend! Thank you, debthaven! She almost missed her connection, and had to dash through the airport, but she made it. They closed the doors behind her. So far we've reminisced with music while playing cards, volunteered at a community cleanup, put together a 1,000-piece puzzle (it was partly done), and have had some decent meals. Snow came through early this morning and will continue, so I'll adjust the next few days. I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

I may do have a problem on my hands! Not only do I still need to reduce my books by at least half (and that is after getting rid of stacks and stacks of them) but I have a similar problem with CDs.Now in my defense, feeble as it may be, I have always had three CD collections, one at home, one at work, and one in the car, and they are all somewhat different. I mean you can't really go on a road trip without Willy Nelson singing on the road again or singing (at the top of your lungs) along with Janis Joplin's version of Me and Bobby McGee, Blues for a quiet night at home, or Gary Moore or the Scorpions at work, can you now? Those are different environments and there is so much more wonderful music. And now I have to get those collections down - once I am ready to face the music going out the door that is... I have put 15 CDs in my latest Goodwill box. And my guestroom is almost ready to see guests again. Not quite but very close. My new flooring decluttering exercise is coming to an end and not a moment too soon. Next up, my pantry. This week a fairly new (~one month old) can decided to split at the seams and leak all over the place. I cleaned it up but I also realized it had been a while since I last checked everything. That is the big drawback of buying food you never hope to eat - my earthquake stash- bought solely based on ease to open and, if needed, eat cold straight from the can. I just tend to ignore my stash but it is time to go through and give away/donate everything that is getting close to its "best by" date and get new food in place. Kind of an expensive habit but I like to eat and I don't think that will go away when the earth decides to rock and roll... Still playing catch up here, but regarding CDs and books: I've posted about it here before, but Decluttr (not a typo) dot com buys used media, and other items. (The downloaded ap will scan the ISBN and tell you how much they are offering, plus they'll pay for shipping.) In the past I ended up selling about 100 of DH and my CDs for a total of $100-ish I think? The rest of the CDs went to Goodwill. Books I will continue to donate to the library.
