I just got a news alert from CNN that Emmer just dropped out. The “Breaking News” is about to show up on CNN. Here we go again . hey, i have an idea. how about approaching the Democrats and asking them who they feel would be an acceptable LIST of candidates, and going from there?

She's your Representative, not mine, so you certainly know more about her than I do, but I've never been impressed. Seems like a proponent of and rubber-stamp for the "Rights for me but not for thee" crowd in the GOP. Also, the votes for not certifying the election and for Jim Jordan for Speaker are disqualifying for me. I would only support people who are for the country, not for Donald Trump. And no, it is not possible to be both. there is at least one person running that voted to impeach Trump AND voted against Jim Jordache. that was not a typo. Mitt Romney?

Do the Repo-cons actually have anyone left? Time to flip enough to give Hakeem the job. The MAGAts are clearly attempting to shut the government down. They have overplayed their hand. Time to go all in.

The answer is “What’s in it for us”? No good reason to help the GOP look competent, unless we get something - like budget approval or something.

It has to be a republican who did not vote to certify Biden as the duly elected president. That was Emmer's problem and trump didn't like him for that.

It will be so funny if after all this they end up putting McCarthy back in.

So how long can they drag it out without appointing a speaker?

I missed something. Where did this guy come in?! How did we again go from Hakeem Jeffries being l l <--- that close to being speaker to some random MAGA that isn't Jim Jordan?! I admit that I stopped paying attention after the 3rd vote.

I admit that I stopped paying attention after the 3rd vote. The Republicans were forced to sign an agreement to vote for whoever got the nomination from amongst the 9. Then Trump posted something on his "truth" social knifing Emmer (repeating the way responses were worded on Twitter), so he dropped out immediately. Had a few nomination votes in secret to choose this guy, and Boom! Everybody did their Republican duty and unanimously voted for Trump's unofficial "endorsed" favorite. Who just happened to write the amicus brief to throw out the election results in several key states... About that Trump "truth" post - commenters mentioned that Trump was busy in court listening to Cohen's testimony at that time, AND there's no weird mistakes or spelling snafus, so who was "truth" ing this on Trump's behalf in his account?!?

Does the man still have staff members? That seems to be a golden ticket to an indictment.

I'm not sure on that unless they got concessions from Jordan. I just saw part of Jimmy Kimmel's monologue showing Emmer calling in via video upside down as a disembodied head surrounded by some swirl type background. (2021, not obvious if it was a chamber meeting or ?) I get people can screw up, but doesn't it take some effort to do the background and head only shot?

He’s horrible. Also very unqualified. But Trump likes him. What happened to all the GOPers who were showing some spine?

His speech would sound good, if I didn’t know at least a tiny bit about what he really stands for.
I consider myself a Christian (albeit one that is a REAL work in progress), but his talk about God and stuff, doesn’t move me. Because I am the kind of Christian that believes that we all are created equal, and a lot of stuff that Christians try to concern themselves with, in the name of Christianity, is actually none of our business and teeters into the territory of being downright evil. And imo, it is certainly not our place to try to pass laws based on our religious beliefs. Laws concerning being a decent human being living in a civilized society, are based on universal principles that most people believe to be true, regardless of religion or lack thereof, like don’t commit murder or hurt people, don’t rape, and don’t steal.
Then we have a whole Constitution that tells us how our government is supposed to work, and that it is supposed to be respected when a majority of voters say what they want and choose who they want to represent them in our government. There has been some shit thrown in that game, but the bottom line is that it is still supposed to be decided by the will of the people, without trying to rig things to produce a certain outcome. That is the “democracy” part of our government. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Those are the biggest reasons that I am very concerned about Mike Johnson. And the fact that he speaks very well and makes shit sound reasonable and good, to the point that even I might fall for it if I wasn’t willing to do some research, causes me even more concern.
