Yea 216 Nay 210 House ousts McCarthy as speaker in historic voteThe US House of Representatives voted on Tuesday to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker – a historic moment that threatens to plunge House Republicans even further into chaos and turmoil. The House will now need to elect a new speaker, but there is no clear alternative who would have the support needed to win the gavel. McCarthy’s political future hangs in the balance and it remains to be seen whether he will seek to win back the speakership. No House speaker has ever before been ousted through the passage of a resolution to remove them. House ousts McCarthy as speaker in historic vote

Who wants to run a kindergarten. That is what the house republican caucus has become. I want what I want and there will be no compromise. They can now burn it down. That’s what they want to do

I'm not sure it was smart of the dems to give Matt Gaetz a win. We'll see I have no doubt that Nancy Pelosi had an opportunity behind the scenes to offer her expertise and wisdom so I am not going to question their choice.

I'm not sure it was smart of the dems to give Matt Gaetz a win. We'll see i thought the same thing, later. but it can ONLY be because McCarthy offered them NOTHING. right? because if he had, for example, offered to keep the government funded through 2024, they would have jumped at that, and he probably would have got 400 votes instead of 200. but that also would mean that McCarthy is good to his word. which he isn't. so, either way, he loses, imo. that is why this thread only has 7 posts.

I watched the vote by rep name count this afternoon in real time. It wasn't quite clear why, but Pelosi was either absent or voted 'Present' when they called her name. She offered no yea or nay.

Not sorry McCarthy was ousted. Right after J6, McCarthy was blaming trump for the violence that day. Two or so weeks later, McCarthy was pictured all smiles with trump during his visit at mar-a-lago.

Tens first post is right, this plunges the GOP further into chaos.
There’s a substantial number of GOPers who hate Matt Gaetz and who will hate him more now that he turned his brat pack out against McCarthy.
And who do they have who both the mainstream and the radical GOPers could support? They will never agree.
And how much time do we end up waiting for them to finally pick someone?
GOP is burdened with too many showboats trying to out crazy each other rather than simply govern.

Is she still in California dealing with Feinstein funeral stuff? I read she accompanied the body.

I'm not sure it was smart of the dems to give Matt Gaetz a win. We'll see True. But I think it would have been even worse to give McCarthy a win, so not much of a choice to be made. McCarthy made his bed, and he fucked over Dems too much for them to help him at this juncture. I'm embarrassed by the chaos in our congress, which this will undoubtedly make worse or at least showcase, but it's been a chaotic disaster this entire term with the nutball MAGA crew in charge so for now all we can do is sit back and watch the show, and enjoy the warm glow around our hearts provided by McCarthy's well-deserved humiliation.

I had forgotten McCarthy allowed this sham impeachment inquiry against Biden to move forward. Waste of time so far, since none of the witnesses has testified to anything Biden did wrong - one woman wrote an article with the headline’Biden deserves jail’ only to testify to the committee that the Biden she was referring to was Hunter. Made me feel less sorry McCarthy got fired. By the way, MTG wants Trump to have that job.

Agreed. It's not good for the country but it was one of the most amazing displays of karma I've ever seen. And I will freely admit I laughed so hard tears were coming out of my eyes.

Is there any chance for a moderate that could pull from both sides? not likely!

By the way, MTG wants Trump to have that job. Several republicans do and Troy Nehls is planning to nominate him. Theres a house rule that you can’t be speaker if you’ve been indicted for a crime that might end up with 2 or more years imprisonment. Of the 91 indictments against him, some of them have potential jail time, so Trump can’t be speaker.

Winston Churchill said it best about appeasers like McCarthy. He sucked up big time to trump after J6:
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile — hoping it will eat him last."

So where does this leave the US that has a budget that is only good until mid November? I think that the chaos that this is going to bring on the House is going to affect far more than they think it is. It might be good that McCarthy's gone, but the void isn't and no one is stepping up to fill the void.

Oh, I think this assures we will have a shutdown. Since it is bumping up against Thanksgiving and Christmas, there may be a little more incentive for them to compromise. Going home an celebrating with their families while essential go to work and not getting paid may be even too much for them. We will see. Flying over Thanksgiving may be an even more difficult prospect.
