Well, you said you were not interested in a fully electric car, so you're really not faced with the choices of those of us who are interested in such things. Doing my part to alleviate climate change is important to me, and no other electric car manufacturer makes a better car. Driving an ICE is uncomfortable for me, and I am done contributing to climate change in that way. I assume you are good with an ICE (though you would consider a hybrid) and, like most, you look for a car that has the reliability and features you want, at the best price, i.e., the best fit for you. As I said, you do you.
I don't patronize Chik-Fil-A, or Hobby Lobby, or stay at Trump Hotels. But I can get the same product, or similar enough, at other places. As you say, there are lots of choices.
My good friend is extremely down on Amazon. She thinks Jeff Bezos' wealth is obscene and he could do so much to alleviate the plight of people who are scraping by, through charities or donations far more sizable than what he's done. She refuses to buy anything from Amazon and seeks out other vendors who have the same products. She has yet to convince me to give up Amazon.

Tesla insurance is available only in some states ODS just bought a Tesla 3 , it has 18,000 miles, nice shape, and a very good warranty. He’s in California and is hoping to install solar that will allow charging as well. It was about $40000 did not know that! www.tesla.com/support/insuranceWhen I had previously been looking to upgrade vehicles about 5-8 years ago (after renting a nice big one for a long road trip with my dad who had some mobility/comfort issues) I thought I could afford the car upgrade - but when I looked into insurance, I think it was nearly 300/month so I just said forget it. So the tesla insurance was really a welcome surprise. Lower for a newish M3 than for a 10 year old LE corolla with progressive.... Add Florida to that list. Lots of Teslas here.

Does Tesla Insurance also offer Umbrella coverage? As far as I know, umbrella usually requires having your vehicle policy with the same company.

There are an awful lot in the Seattle area. I knew of a few in my neighborhood before, but now if I look out one window across the street there is a Tesla. If I look out a different window across the other street there is a Tesla. I was at a stoplight a couple days ago and three drove by before I moved. I was behind one once and had two more next to me. I stopped at the library today and there were three in the parking lot. And I once counted about 12 going just from my GF's house to the freeway onramp to go home, and her neighbor has one too. See them everywhere.

The cybertruck just got a recall notice. Apparently there's a problem with the windshield wipers.

Most Tesla recalls are done with software updates ‘over the air’. Obviously not windshield wipers!

See them everywhere. There are even more in Vancouver! It seems every other car there is a Tesla. At one of the grocery stores we hit up there, there is about 20 or so Tesla superchargers and they are always all in use. I think we have 3-4 Teslas on this road.

Just a quick check-in to say I picked up my Model Y the other day. So far so good! I charged it overnight in my garage and as best I can see it cost me about $2 in electricity.
I really don't think it's a car so much as it is drivable technology. There's a steep learning curve. Regenerative braking takes some practice. I'm busy finding out how to do simple things (like opening the glove box). Because of that learning curve, I can see where you might get a negative impression if a non-Tesla owner rented one. It would be frustrating to have to search for what you need to do. It takes some effort to figure out simple tasks until you learn where to find them on the screen or by voice. At least initially it takes you out of your comfort zone.
But it's fun to drive, seats are very comfortable, and I'm looking forward to taking a longer trip out of town to try out the supercharger network.

The easiest way to do these simple things are voice commands. Hold down the right button on the steering wheel and say "open glove box", or "navagate home", "navigate to Walmart", etc. Even "set temperature to 70 degrees". The voice implementation is excellent, it even works with my heavy accent, always, LOL. No need to learn standardized commands, it will understand when you say it in common sense terms. Regenerative breaking, or also called "one pedal driving" is awesome once you get used to it. Otherwise, have fun with the new ride, and be safe. It's faaaast. One quick question if you don't mind: what vehicle did the MY replace, and by how much did your insurance payment go up over 6 months?

I did have some difficulty with transitioning over to using the cameras rather than visual. And since I have a long drive way and no turn around, I need to back out about 100' or so into the street. Until I transitioned to relying and comfy with the cameras, I felt like I couldn't see well enough to do so safely when I got to crossing the side walk and backing into the street. As schildi mentioned, voice control is your friend! Whenever I can't find anything I ask for it! schildi, what accent do you have? I think I knew way back when but forgot? Scandinavian of some flavor? no need to answer if you prefer not! And sidebar: couldn't you do voice commands in any language?

But then, I'd be struggling to find the right words after living here for 30+ years, lol. Luckily Tesla's voice recognition has no problem with it. :-)

schildi, sorry I haven't answered your question about the insurance. I was paying $480 per 6 months for my 2021 CR-V. The Model Y is $645 for 6 months. So not a horrible increase for a car three years newer than I had. I could probably get that down if I stayed with Tesla insurance because most of my driving is around town but I do want umbrella coverage so I think I'll stay with State Farm. And my experience with State Farm is they are great at paying claims. I'm a pretty loyal customer.

Yes, it includes all the usual stuff. And it's more than the state-required minimum on liability because of the umbrella coverage, which requires higher limits on the underlying policies.
My car "musical chairs" game has been ongoing since last fall, when my son (age 41) totaled my 2016 CR-V. He was at fault. I replaced it with the 2021 model. So I've owned three cars in the span of less than a year. I'm surprised State Farm didn't increase my rates by a ton because of that car totaling. They certainly had the chance to do so.

I have been doing a little car shopping lately. Overall, I am less than thrilled. Cars seem so boring to me these days and all look the same. A bunch of SUVs and coupes that are all basically the same car with a different name slapped on them. Maybe it's just me but it seems like there used to more fun cars like the VW beetle, Mitsubishi Eclipse (I owned two of those), used to love the old Mustangs but don't care much for the new ones...I was hoping to get a cute little mid-life crisis car (without spending a fortune) but not a whole lot to choose from. Subaru and Toyota both have cute little sports cars that are basically the exact same.
Mini Coopers are pretty cute. I haven't test driven one yet, or know much about them other than I like the look.
