Shootings over wrong door, wrong car, wrong driveway. The right answer? Always more guns.Ateenager trying to pick up his younger brothers in a Kansas City neighborhood knocked on the wrong door and got shot in the head and arm. A group of friends mistakenly drove up the wrong driveway in rural upstate New York and a 20-year-old woman in the passenger seat of one of the cars was shot and killed. A high school cheerleader in Texas tried to get in a car she mistook for her own and was grazed by a bullet while her friend was shot in the back and left in critical condition. This string of senseless violence against young people who were making the kind of innocent mistakes that happen all the time, the kind of mistakes we’ve all made at some point, is not just America in 2023. It’s America in less than a week. Are all those guns making you feel safer yet? The Kansas City shooting, in which an 84-year-old white man shot 16-year-old Ralph Yarl, who is Black, happened last Thursday. Kaylin Gillis was shot and killed in New York last Saturday night. And cheerleaders Heather Roth and Payton Washington were shot Tuesday. As America has endured shooting after shooting after shooting – at schools, parades and churches, in parking lots, shopping malls and now on front door steps – the solutions I’ve heard from the almighty gun lobby and the politicians it keeps in its pocket always amount to: More guns, please. Complete article here: Shootings over wrong door, wrong car, wrong driveway. The right answer? Always more guns.

America's gun culture is empowering people to shoot others, even when they're not a threatThey each made simple mistakes. But for the Black teen who rang the wrong doorbell, the young woman who pulled into the wrong driveway, and the cheerleader who got into the wrong car, those mistakes became life-threatening, and in one case, deadly. A series of wrong-place shootings have reignited debate about the prevalence of gun violence, "stand your ground" laws, and America's firearms culture. On April 13, an elderly homeowner in Kansas City, Missouri, shot Ralph Yarl, a Black teenager, in the head after Yarl rang the home's doorbell. Just days later, 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis was fatally shot by a homeowner after the car she was riding in pulled into the wrong driveway in a rural part of New York. And this week, two cheerleaders were shot after one of them mistakenly climbed into the wrong car in a Texas parking lot. The shocking incidents are a larger symptom of a distinctly American culture that empowers people to open fire, even when there's no real threat, gun violence experts say. Rest of article here: America's gun culture is empowering people to shoot others, even when they're not a threat

Now he is what is wrong with America. They already started to shoot bullets are already flying unattended people are already at risk. He is doing his neighbors a great service by firing back, I'd rather die protecting anything I have then let someone take it. HE is what’s is wrong with America? Are you crazy? Because he realized that starting a shootout with somebody obviously that had more firepower than him, would put even more people in danger? When they were in a vehicle and he was on foot? HE is the problem, and not the people that shot at him for coming outside when they were trying to steal his car? Just, WOW! Absolutely. Lets change the circumstance two robbers enter a convenience store shot fired and possibly wounds 1 or more patrons there is an customer there armed but he is out armed does he try to stop them knowing if he does try then he could get shot or more people could get hurt or killed. The way I see it they are already in danger shots already fired now it's time to act.

You would kill somebody if they took a bicycle pump or basketball out of your garage. That would be murder, because you weren't threatened bodily. It's not self defence. People like you aare the problem. Despicable. No it wouldn't. It would all depend upon the circumstance. If i'm there I am already armed if the person comes at me now my life is in danger they do not have to be armed just coming at me is threatening me and since they are on my property uninvited I have a right to defend my life and yes I will shoot them if they come at me. Now if they run I will not fire the police can handle it.

The upstate was taking care of parents Why not move your parents with you to South Carolina? You loathed living in New York. Why continue to suffer. Wasn't like that, illness they were not about to leave. It wasn't until the later years I was there that did NY in for me. I went up a few weeks ago 4 days there and I was happy to come home

He is doing his neighbors a great service by firing back, I'd rather die protecting anything I have then let someone take it. scgal, if you are the kind of person who routinely went or still goes hunting - the kind that requires a license (and with a limit) you can ignore this post. And I also don't mean killing and butchering a chicken/rabbit/goat/lamb you were going to eat for dinner. If you aren't a hunter: have you ever killed anything beyond bugs? And I don't mean a mouse/rat with a trap or yard pests with poison. Have you ever kicked a mouse/rat to death after cornering one? Have you ever gone after an opossum in your backyard with a shovel and killed it? have you ever intentionally run your lawn mower over a rabbit's nest in your yard? Have you ever killed a snake? Have you ever killed a creature because killing it was a 'solution to a problem'? I ask because I'm having hard time wrapping my brain around someone being OK with killing another human being. Because they want something I have. I don't really feel the need to die (or worse loose a limb or have a brain injury or be disabled for the rest of my life) to save my car or my house or my wallet for example. I might be more willing to make that kind of sacrifice to save someone else (maybe even someone I didn't particularly like) but that kind of sacrifice for a material object (that is most likely replaceable)... I don't think I could do that - I am not the objects I own/have. I am MORE and separate from those objects. I can't imagine getting hurt bad enough so that I could no longer use/enjoy the object I saved. That's just sad and bitter and empty.

No a gun issue but I feel it fits here. A 19-year old sent 3 TSA agents at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to the hospital after going ballistic over a bottle of apple juice that was being confiscated. 450 airline passengers had to be moved to another security screening area.

Do you remember the guy in the theatre who shot a patron dead behind him simply because he asked him to be quieter or not throw his popcorn around? ID remember the specifics. I remember an angry gun owner acted in haste and killed someone because he was upset with them.

I moved to NJ at age 25. Scgal, were you in Brooklyn and LI at those ages because your parents lived there? It's complicated but yes somewhat. Couple of those years by myself. What part of NJ are you from I used to go there Vernon Valley, High Point and of course Sea Side I've been here around three and a half decades. I've lived in five different counties. If you count places, I've worked I'm up to 7. I'm not NNJ. Think Central into South. Seaside Heights on the shore?

Just because I'm not materialistic that doesn't mean that I will not stop someone from taking it. It's more of the principal of the issue. I have an old bike in my garage if I caught someone trying to take it I would stop them if they run off so be it if they come at me with something that could be used as a weapon that day will be their last on earth.

The latest idiot. People like him need their firearms confiscated before they harm others. Illinois man using leaf blower allegedly shot, killed by neighbor in his drivewayAn Illinois man using a leaf blower on his property was allegedly shot and killed by his neighbor this month, becoming the latest in a string of shooting victims purportedly targeted while doing everyday tasks. William Martys was found dead in his Antioch Township driveway around 7:35 p.m. on April 12 with a gunshot wound to his head, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. He was declared dead at a local hospital. After an investigation, authorities on Tuesday arrested Martys' 79-year-old neighbor, Ettore Lacchei, who they say allegedly approached Martys and began arguing with him. During the dispute, Lacchei allegedly shot and killed Martys, according to police. "Our condolences go out to the family and friends of William Martys, who was senselessly murdered," said Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg. "The members of the sheriff's office are relentless when it comes to seeking justice for victims. You have to decide in that situation what your choice is as a civilian and hopefully knowing the legal consequences if you accidently shoot and kill another customer, a shop employee or even a plains clothes cop. I watch the police procedural Blue Bloods. Do you? One recent show involved an off duty cop who was outnumbered and chose not to act. I haven't watched any of the episodes would like to tho. I'm sure it takes many liberties, but it is a long running show based on a family of cops in NYC. Tom Selleck plays the police commissioner and his father, was police commissioner before him. There have been many police procedurals based in a fictional NYC, but I find this one to the best and very educational as to how things might work. What decisions a NYC police commissioner might make when an incident hits the news. What are going to be the POVs of the mayor, the DA etc. A current storyline is the daughter is running for DA. It shows her transformation in becoming more camera ready and choices she has to make even to stay in the race. I find it fascinating.
