No, not like the one in Ohio. I'm sitting here looking at all the threads and thinking back fondly on previous posters who asked questions about the big hole they dug for themselves and asked for advice. Then they promptly ignore all the advice and get feisty.
We've all become to civilized, and advanced in our financial abilities. Anyone want to step up and take one for the team?

I should recruit from the Paying for College Facebook page. Plenty of people setting themselves up for financial ruin over there.

I agree. We do need a train wreck, but sorry, I am not taking one for the team.

I'm getting a puppy. Does that count? So many puppies! Have you decided what kind? Do you have other dogs? My DD2 just got ANOTHER English Bulldog, Wed night. Their other one is only 3 months old, so now they have 2 to train . The new puppy is 6-8 weeks old. They've never had dogs before. Seems CRAZY to me, with 2 toddlers. But it's their choice.

I don't need a train wreck. I'll settle for a penitent.
I'm sure that there are plenty here. Lots happened during the pandemic to change our credit card usage. Remember that change shortage that forced everyone to use plastic? Remember those relief checks that utterly warped our sense of how often money just drops out of nowhere? Remember how many home repair projects just didn't seem all that important when we were facing our second pandemic winter?
I'm sure that plenty of us have let things go enough that we need a good kick in the pants.

Well, I've pondered taking out a PL to help a friend pay off her $12,000 at 15% car note after I pay off the PL that I took out in August to help a niece pay off her $4700 at 25% car note. My PL is $3990 at 7.39% and will be paid off in a few months.

I would step up but can’t face the ugly truth as of yet. I’m taking baby steps to getting myself in hand. Will need to think on it.

We're getting a mutt but it will be a large breed mix. We already have two dogs, a medium and an extra large one. The extra large one is very old so this will be a puppy for him to train. 6 weeks is too young to leave its mother and litter mates! It should be close to 10 weeks. That's alarming. Esp if they've never had dogs before. I was allowed a 6 week old once because the shelter was so overwhelmed that they were killing owner surrender dogs. Which the little puppy was. They made sure I was very familiar with dog socialization first.

He's not crying for his momma or siblings and is doing very well. He seems totally happy and content. Luckily, they started with a dog trainer on Monday, who was recommended and comes to their house once a week, so they're getting some direction from the beginning and can start off doing things correctly from the beginning. Not just guessing what they're doing.

My PL is $3990 at 7.39% and will be paid off in a few months. Yeah, that's got potential train wreck written all over it. It's definitely just a pondering 'cause the friend has had some income issues that allow me to KNOW that she sucks at money. Partly due to ADHD but mostly due to not taking steps to accommodate how ADHD effects her habits with money. Like, if she has the funds, she'll buy a ton of groceries but then she doesn't eat the food and, instead, orders DoorDash for a good 50% of her meals. She attributes it to executive disfunction. Once a month, I help her clean her house and one of those times, we completely emptied her fridge that was full of spoiled food. That's how I came to know about the buying groceries when she has the money to do so situation. I kept telling myself "I didn't buy these groceries...it's not my money...I have no dog in this fight." It doesn't help me hate waste any less.

I left my job on Sept 1. I have applied for 2 jobs and we haven’t really cut spending - if anything we increased it because we are funding both my kids’ college right now.
Flog away

Flog away You have a small house which is probably close to being paid off and a husband who makes a decent living as a well paid professional. Are you watching soaps and eating bon-bons yet? Joined Carrie Lake and her band of nutters? If not we'll still be your internet buddies.

I retired 14 months ago and have not been tracking my finances like I did before even though my income is only about half what I had before. Does that count?
The problem with making this a case of "taking one for the team" however is that I now have more money than I did before I retired. Note, not my net worth as that has gone down somewhat due to my investments but I haven't touched those so I don't worry about that.

I spent too much time digging myself out of my mess. I’m not about to do something like that again……other than I will now likely be carrying a balance on my CC until I get home. I can pay it off, or have an access to foreign currency for the rest of this trip since TD forgot his 2 ATM cards at home. TBH, doing this is making me twitchy.
Yesterday, we were out at the artists studios and one of the women I was traveling with forgot her credit card. I put her purchases on my card, and she was going to pay me back in US$ as soon as I can tell her how much her purchases hit my account at. I had to laugh at her, they brought US cash as well and TD just had to pay her DH back as TD left his card on the ship when they went diving and her DH paid for TD to dive. I have a feeling we are going to be exchanging that same $300 a few more times during this trip!

Flog away Nah, no flogging here. I still remember a post you made on the old boards, introducing yourself to me and saying how much your net worth was or how much money you had in savings, I can’t remember exactly which impressive number it was, but your point was to try to encourage me. I’ve never seen you talk about stuff like that, just to try to brag, so I believed and still believe that post was meant to be encouraging, and that’s how I took it and how I remember it. You’ve probably forgotten that post, but I never did. So just on the strength of that post, which I’m pretty sure was on the old MSN boards, I would never try to flog you. If I felt like you were making a mistake that was so ridiculous that even I could see problems with it, I would offer my uneducated opinion, but I would also understand if you ignored it since I’m still a beginner on this site, and nowhere near an expert.

I want a 9th tattoo and am attempting to get a pug puppy in the coming months.
That is money I really should be investing at 11% not to mention I'm making myself look unprofessional and could be using that money to pursue more suitable enlightened hobbies.

I don’t remember that, but it is sweet for you to say all that. My husband always tells his law students ‘Becoming rich is boring - go to work, save and invest, repeat for 30 years and then you have money.’ There is a little more work to it - but I did all that, so he forgets it happened. 😛

Consider it money spent on therapy. Tattoos and dogs or a therapist - same thing!
