no, i think they are the low income tax states, which means they tax the shit out of people in other ways. but some Texan can correct me. In my recollection, the property tax RATE in Texas is high. The actual property tax paid is not that burdensome, since property values are relatively low compared to many states. I live in NJ, so the actual paid property tax is pretty low to me even if the rate to assessed value is higher than average. Found this in the glorious internet. The median property tax in Texas is $2,275.00 per year for a home worth the median value of $125,800.00. Counties in Texas collect an average of 1.81% of a property's assesed fair market value as property tax per year. Texas has one of the highest average property tax rates in the country, with only thirteen states levying higher property taxes.

Biden approval is AGAIN flirting with an 14 month high (October 2021), and ahead of where Reagan, Carter, Trump, and Ford were on day 778. he is also TIED with Clinton (44%).
the fact that he is ahead of the two one term presidents on that list should be somewhat mollifying to those that want him to run again.
Trump Favorability has been on the rise since last December, and is now approaching 43%. note that favorability and approval are not the same metric. approval is a job rating.

Approval is for a job rating and favorability is for how entertaining it is to see Trump toot all those Christian Nationalist/ White Supremacy / Anti woke dog whistles that infuriate the libitards. I like to go to the circus too, but I would never let the lead clown do my taxes or babysit my kid.

Saw on Face the Nation this morning where one of the generals who used to work for Trump when he was president (sorry, can’t remember his name - he was the guy with the walrus whiskers) was saying that Trump is holding the GOP hostage. Trump insists that the GOP support his third run for president or he’ll blow the party up. This will play directly into the hands of the Dems, who would love to run their candidate against Trump again, especially an indicted Trump.
The general argued that it’s possible for the GOP to both support Trump against the NY indictment and at the same time state that the party needs to move on to a new presidential candidate. He encouraged more GOP politicians to start saying this publicly, instead of cowering.

trump called the bluff of the GOP the first time when he threatened to run as an independent and they knew this would give the election to Hillary. IMO the GOP needs to move on from trump, establish an agenda other then stolen election and build up integrity again. They won't do this with the many trumpers who got into office. People have to wake up and remember we pay their salaries and it isn't for self promotion.

Good opinion piece from HuffPost. www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-indicted-republicans-gop_n_642e0328e4b0c2da1504c7e2/ampThe GOP has failed to win the popular vote in a presidental election since 1988. They are on the wrong side of important issues like abortion and gun control. Most of Trumps candidate picks don’t win. Yet still the GOP doubles down on this guy. We need the old fiscally responsible GOP (the one I voted for sometimes) not the anti woke GOP. Our healthcare system is broken. So is the welfare/snap poverty programs. There are plenty of gun control options that 80 percent of Americans would happily support. Instead, the GOP wastes its time on anti woke, anti trans, anti gay horse shit and pro Trump posturing. I’m afraid what will get instead will be Trump again in 2024, when there are so many far better options. And Trump will lose again.

Before Reagan, in fact. I would much rather have Nixon and Ford than any Republican since. GHW Bush was fairly innocuous. Reagan, GWB, and Trump have been disasters. Continuing further in that line would be insanity.

Warning signs flash for Republicans on abortion ahead of 2024Republicans are grappling with how they message on abortion in next year’s elections, after the party suffered a defeat in the highly contested Wisconsin Supreme Court race on Tuesday. Milwaukee County Judge Janet Protasiewicz’s victory handed a majority to liberals on the court for the first time in 15 years, along with abortion rights activists fighting to make the procedure legal in the state following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year. Her win follows a slew of Democratic and abortion rights victories across the country during last year’s midterms. However, the liberal victory in a presidential battleground and hotly contested Senate state signals that Republicans and anti-abortion rights activists have a steep hill to climb going into 2024. Rest of article here: Warning signs flash for Republicans on abortion ahead of 2024

This is exactly what Trump was afraid would happen- killing Roe galvanizing the young adult vote in a more effective way than the Dems could ever do themselves.

"I don't believe Elon Musk voted for Biden, not for a minute!" Trump exclaimed. "He told me that he voted for me, but who knows about that, and who cares?" "Elon is just trying to make friends with the absolutely horrible Biden Administration because of all the government subsidies he gets, and all the permits he needs," he continued. I think the reason Desantis hasn't announced is because FL law requires him to resign as Governor to run for President. I think I read somewhere that he is trying to get that law changed so he doesn't have to resign. Maybe someone here that lives in FL can attest to this.
Is he really that ignorant to think that the delusional dictatorship he is running in FL makes him electable in the rest of the country? Every week he tops himself in complete lunacy.

the other theory is that he wants to finish up his agenda. which is not going to win him the election, despite what he thinks. the abortion ban is particularly troubling.

I think he believes he can court the same voters that elected Trump. However, Trump only barely squeaked by. He lost the popular vote. And I suspect he won quite a few voters by being a clownish figure- a loud mouthed buffoon. I think a certain percentage of voters thought it might be funny to let him be president. The same kind of voters who voted to name a British naval ship Boaty McBoatface. The problem for DeSantis is he doesn’t have that ridiculous, outrageous quality Trump has. He has zero personality, and his peevish battles with Disney and trans/gay kids just makes him seem like a dangerous fascist. And the polls are showing that the voters are losing interest. Which means Trump is leading. Which is unthinkable.

Most Americans in a new poll don’t want former President Trump to run for the White House in 2024, and a majority doesn’t want President Biden to run for reelection, either, as he prepares for an expected campaign launch that could come as early as this week. news.yahoo.com/majorities-don-t-want-biden-185549638.htmlSee, the country can agree on something!
