you literally just said exactly that you would. you can't even be consistent two posts in a row. 🙄 No please reread it. I said I would rather vote for a sketchy gop over a possible sketchy democrat any day. I said nothing about criminal behavior. This is why democrats have is wrong all the time you would rather infer what someone said to fit your weird agendas. I'm not inferring anything you didn't actually say. the word rather does not appear in your post.

Weird agenda. You mean like clean air, clean water, feeding hungry children, workplace safety, progressive tax rates, improving health care access, and increasing the minimum wage. What a horrible agenda! I'm guessing transgender and any of that non-binary stuff. It is that tiny sliver of human existence on which many seem to be focused.

She still hasn’t explained how we are a shithole country under Biden except for the fact that we are “woke” and support trans right. The fact that we are 37th in maternal mortality, have a similar ranking for infant mortality, have a worse life expectancy than similar countries, and worse economic inequality than those same countries is acceptable and doesn’t make us a shithole country, but being woke does

It was having a Black President. She is from South Carolina after all.

I have long thought that the most toxic myth your country perpetrates about itself, is the myth of Rugged Individualism building your country. Especially since it so often presents like it does in high school. You must be an individual in the same way as your peers or you will be ostracized. Hence the problem with the LGB etc.
I’m not discounting the strength of any individuals involved but your Mythos overstates it.
The Pilgrams did not immigrate to the Americas one at a time. They banded together to buy the supplies, hire or buy the boat, recruit the sailors if it was going to be a one way trip. The colonies that survived did so because people worked together. Thanksgiving seems to be based on the story of a group of Aboriginals saving a pilgrim village from starving to death.
The Founders of your country didn’t kick the British out without a lot of popular and practical support from their neighbours.
There were over 30 people in the Lewis & Clark expedition, a good number of whom were soldiers.
Farmers flourished when there were nearby centres to sell their excess crops.
I don’t understand the concept of me over us. There are no known examples of an individual thriving without others. Alexander the Great and Ghangus Khan were apparently exceptional individuals but they would have gotten no where without their generals and soldiers. They couldn’t be everywhere at once.
It all makes no sense to me.

No I wouldn't but I align with republican and nowhere near democrat ideals. So in my eyes there's not a good democrat around. Someday I hope I can be more of center line republican. For that to happen all woke crap needs to stop, police have to have the support they need. Punish bad cops not the whole force, renewable energy needs to be kept to a minimum no subsidies for the ev crap leave that to the rich folks, force people to be more independent on themselves, literally end immigration for about a year and a half, only let people in who can actually benefit the United States. This whole family asylum crap not our problem go fix your own country. You are actually aligning with populist ideas right now. Trump and his admin are not Republican and are not motivated by Republican ideals, like respect for the military and self sacrifice for the country. Trump actually spent most of his life as a democrat, and only switched to being Republican when he decided to run for president, because he thought it would be easier for him to win as a Republican, and he was right. He certainly knows exactly what to say to get people like you to vote for him. Whether or not he will do what he says is very much up in the air, though. Remember in 2016 and he based his campaign on building that big beautiful wall (and having Mexico pay for it) - that never happened, did it? Why didn’t he run for his second term on the same slogan? Could it be that he didn’t want people pointing out how poorly he did building that wall in his first term? This time, he’s all about rounding up the immigrants and shipping them back home. The cost to do that has been estimated at 88 billion dollars, and Trump says money doesn’t matter, he’ll get it done. I suspect there will be a few dramatic air shipments of immigrants out, just like there were a few miles of the wall built, and then Trump will stop talking about the issue completely, and nothing more will get done, but he will announce the whole problem is ‘fixed.’ Well there was also that new and far superior healthcare plan that would replace Obama care which never materialized. This time he only had a "concept of a plan" and with theRepublican trifecta in place quite a few people are all of a sudden realizing that their ability to have healthcare insurance is about to go POOF! Many of them will get what they voted for and may live to rue the day - if they can get treatment and not die because they decided to vote R.

It all makes no sense to me. I don't fully get it either but I think its part of a conservative mythos. More recent conservatives are afraid of other countries and people not like them so they have embraced a belief of American exceptionalism. I think the exclusionary identity politics of Trump and his followers is a way to feel on top as well. I think they believe if they put some people down and other countries down they think they will feel secure. But weirdly I think some are so divorced from reality that they choose to believe Trump when he declares everything is OK when it obviously is not. I almost asked scgal why she even bothered to get married if she was so against team efforts.

I have said many times that the ACA is a gift from God, and I was thankful when in the past the GOP failed to eliminate the program. (Thank you to McCain and others who voted to keep it.) DS is on that program, and to date the GOP has done NOTHING positive to help citizens with preexisting conditions get health insurance. Trump bragged that he had some big, beautiful plan, but as always nothing was ever said about what it was, how it would work, etc. Another nothingburger.

That keeping your kids on your health insurance is massively popular. I would venture that most of us have taken advantage of it, and even if our kids had jobs, saved them a ton of money. Wonder how popular a plan eliminating that would be?
Allowing companies to charge different premiums based on pre-existing conditions will take us back to the bad old days where they would write policies that excluded coverage for your diabetes or asthma. That will be popular! How about refusing to cover someone with a history of cancer. So much good time. If they actually accomplish repealing the ACA, can’t wait for the wailing from all the people who voted for Trump when they realize they are losing their health insurance

I had a college prof who was born & raised in India. He would describe to our class what living there was like, and what it was like to have the poor living and literally dying on the street. He married here & had a son, who he took back to his home country so his son would appreciate what he had here in the US. If T is trying to create a "shithole country", taking away health insurance would probably be the quickest way to get there. I wonder what happens when a bunch of those "Proud Boys" lose their insurance?

Similar to how all those people said it was ok that the old and sick died from covid and didn’t want to do anything to help prevent the spread were distressed when it came as their relative who was dying. Their selfishness shows no bounds

I heard a little history on the blaming the Jewish and I thought it was interesting. Many blamed the black plague on the Jewish communities. It stemmed from the fact that Christians used to stick to the no lending / no charging interest that I think Muslims currently adhere to. But, the people still needed to borrow money. So the Jews became lenders. Not only did they charge interest - which was immoral - but they also were the people collecting people’s hard earned money. So, people were all bitter about them, and morally repulsed - but still borrowed money. And that is why it is all the Jews’ fault.

Like most things, the theory of it is better than the reality. And when the reality hits, a whole bunch of "I didn't expect it to affect me" will be said And I am planning on saying "We told you so" very often.

Not sure which thread to put this in but spent some time with my favorite aunt who I know is a Trumper but she also knows not to bring up politics bc I'll shut it down and/or leave. She's 80 and has always loved following politics. These past 3 pres election cycles, she'd schedule life around certain news shows. When I got there Newsmax was on but she quickly turned it off.
During our visit, she asked if DD12 was walking to her new school. I said yep, it's 3 blocks away and we both love her independence. She then asked if I was following the immigration news and how there's a caravan of immigrants making its way from Eastern US and is currently in Nashville and is messing up each big city as it comes through and did I want her to warn me when it's closing in on StL so DD could stop walking for a while. Um, what the actual... I quickly turned the conversation to a new topic. I've since googled for this and not found anything. She's not online except to email and check the weather so her source must be Newmax or Fox or some other such misinformation campaign.

If there was a caravan of illegal immigrants making its way across the country, I think they'd be rounded up pretty quickly.

Really just putting this out there as an example of why uneducated, misinformed folks happily voted for Trump. This aunt has always been Republican and used to be well informed on various topics. Now she's living in an echo chamber. No husband, no kids, still living in the town of 3000 were she was born and raised. Like even on its surface. Why would the immigrants be coming from the East?! And where are they going?!

So, my DD works for Delta (Delta has successfully kept the union at bay to date). She sent me a blurb from a web site last night that United Airlines flight attendants are 'livid' after Federal Mediators Suspended Contract Negotiations Until 2025. I am sure we can all guess how this will end - one wonders how many of those union employees voted republican thinking what could go wrong?
ETA, my DD is very happy working for Delta, and feels that a Union would not benefit the employees. She is not a Republican though. She says many of the Delta Employees wearing the pro-union pins are not the best at their jobs, so she would not want to see a union "protecting" them. This is the same beef one of my nephew's in education has with the Teacher's Union.

Does she belong to any ladies clubs? My mom used to get all her ‘when Obama is elected we’re all going to have to be Muslim and black people will take over our homes’ stories from her bridge club and the red hat society.
