Does the average person even watch the debates or listen to the answers? I think most just want to be entertained and that's all trump does when in public.

Its also dropping for the Olympics generally although I think part of that is NBC really packages the Olympics badly. They want the extra revenue so much they don't even consider how changing their marketing might give them the money, but from advertising more than subscribers. LA apparently is the only hosting city in recent memory who did make money on hosting the Olympics and they will have the summer games in 2028. I think. I know LA and Australia are the next two summer hosts.

www.lifestyleasia.com/sg/culture/people/who-is-usha-vance-facts-net-worth-career-jd-vance/Financial other info on both Vances. Lots of info, worth reading the long article if you have an interest or time. JD Vance, a junior United States senator from Ohio, was a former critic of Trump. Yet on 15 July 2024, on the first day of the 2024 Republican National Convention, Trump picked him as his running mate. Two days later, Vance formally accepted the nomination, becoming the first Marine veteran to receive a presidential ticket.
Usha Vance is the child of Indian immigrants. She was born Usha Chilukuri and raised in the suburbs of San Diego, California, in a Hindu-practicing household.
A Reuters report reveals that her parental family, who hail from the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, has always been academically gifted. Her parents arrived in the US in the late 1970s. Her mother, Lakshmi, is a provost at the University of California, San Diego, while her father, Krish, teaches aerospace engineering at San Diego State University.
Her great-aunt, Shanthamma Chilukuri, who is 96 years old, is a physics teacher in India and is celebrated in the local media as the country’s oldest active professor.
Her husband, JD Vance, has a high net worth
According to his 16 July profile on Forbes, JD Vance has a net worth of around USD 10 million. Much of this comes from his venture firm, Narya, which he started in 2019. The firm put its money on right-wing video-sharing platform Rumble, which is today YouTube’s closest competitor in the US.
His other investments through his firm include former US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s Strive Asset Management. According to Forbes, Vance acquired venture holdings and liquid assets between USD 3 million and USD 10 million by 2021.

There are crap tons of critically claimed movies rated way above summer block buster's and some never even earn what it cost to make them. Not going to look for it, since I closed that article's window, but if you find something on Olympic host cities etc. it might contain what I read about host city profits, etc. Paris is on track to become the greenest of any summer Olympics with plans to reuse most venues and have the least environmental impact during and after the games.

Steady drop was the claim. I can easily explain the ebb and flow of viewership based on specifics of candidates and other elements.

You are conflating 2 different issues. Host cities rarely make money because they spend so much on infrastructure and putting the games on. They do it for prestige and the “economic” spinoffs, although Paris doesn’t need those. It is quite possible for NBC to make money off this. So much is now on their streaming service, Peacock, so advertising dollars are hard to determine. Would discount them making money on it

trump is making the same mistake today that he made in 2020. When he came to Atlanta for a rally he lashed out at Kemp and Raffensburger - the governor and SOS - because they were not ‘loyal’ - not only did they not ‘find’ 12,000 votes for him in 2020 so he could claim victory in Georgia, Kemp hasn’t attempted to interfere with the election interference case against him. Trump shit talked both Kemp and Raffensburger when they were both running for re-election, but they both won handily, which must have pissed Trump off. The thing is, Kemp and Raffensburger are popular in Georgia. Especially Raffensburger, who recorded the phone call when Trump tried to strong arm him (even threatening him with a lawsuit) if he didn’t find some votes for him - Raffensburger went to the press and said if the GOP wants to win races they need to run better presidential candidates. Not only did Trump shit talk the two of them, he talked about how corrupt the elections are in Georgia - and both those things ended up inspiring the GOP voters to stay home in 2020. Consequently, the two senate seats in Georgia are currently filled by Democrats. Fast forward to 2024 and Trump is still shit talking them, and this time made a point to be mean about Kemp’s wife. www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/georgia-governor-brian-kemp-snaps-back-at-trump-after-vicious-attacks/ar-AA1odne4?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=1db7c633893c4039adcfc57287db1881&ei=16He’s going to suppress the GOP vote in GA again, all because he can’t let go of a stupid grudge. The Borowitz Report
Trump Accuses Harris of Rigging Election by Choosing Non-horrible Running MatePALM BEACH (The Borowitz Report)—Vice President Kamala Harris is plotting to “rig the election” by choosing a running mate whom millions of people do not hate, Donald J. Trump alleged on Sunday. “She’s going to pick someone who’s likeable and appeals to voters, which, quite frankly, is unfair,” Trump said. “This should never be allowed to happen in our country.” Calling the choice of a competent and attractive running mate “a stone-cold dirty trick,” he asserted, “I would never do something like that.” In order to “level the playing field,” Trump said, Harris should be forced to choose a running mate who “offends voters every time he opens his mouth,” adding, “If she’s having trouble finding someone that horrible, Eric and Don Jr. can help.” Trump Accuses Harris of Rigging Election by Choosing Non-horrible Running Mate

The people who have been slowly talking themselves into thinking maybe he really wasn't that bad as memory fades need that stupidity up front and center so they can say "Oh yeah THAT is why I didn't vote for him the second time".

Idiot. Trump throughout his life has been about grudges, insults, lies, and keeping everyone else down. It is who he is, and it was coded very deeply in his soul when he was able to crush his older brother and become his dad's favorite. It is the bulk of what he has learned to do. He sees it as a big part of his business playbook. He won't change for the simple reason he does not want to. When he fails in November, it won't occur to him that he planted the seeds that sealed his doom in the GE. I don't see any redemption in his future, but I suppose it could happen if he was jailed and had to contemplate that the fault was not his long list of Thems, but he himself. Its far more likely he will keep whispering or yelling in people's ears lies he wants sold, for his benefit of course. He acts like a Satan. Misleading and joyful when he leads people astray to do the wrong thing on his behalf. Look at his posted anti-truth. Brian Kemp and his wife knew they could win, but for Trump Sheeple, that's just fake news because Trump said something different. I feel for Kemp and his wife because some of his Theeple (pronounced T-people) will take their misplaced anger and hatred and shower it on Kemp and his wife. And this is because they are generally as emotionally unstable and lazy as DJT. No surprise he's linking them to Fani Willis, etc. What's not good here is Kemp still does not notice yet that he and the GOP need to be saved from a Trump coronation more than they need to avoid Dem policies that are more progressive than they prefer.

Trump thinks that his best route to victory is being Trump. so when he starts feeling like he is falling behind, he will eschew advice and be himself.
here is his problem: people know him now. and they regard him with suspicion at best, and disgust at worst. he can't win with the same voter base as last time. he needs to expand it. ergo, he needs outreach. and in order to win people over that he has not won over yet, he CAN'T be himself, because those folks are staying away because he is basically an awful person and an awful candidate.
see the problem?
i doubt Trump does.
so as he gets more desperate, he will FURTHER alienate the people he needs to attract. the only way he wins is by rigging the election, and there is some evidence that he has already done that. we will see if the evidence is right, or even if it is, whether it will matter.

I think that there is good chance the American people are going to be given a very serious civics lesson this election cycle. Doesn't look like they took notes in 2020.

Why the Sept. 10 debate is shaping up to be a win-win for Kamala HarrisTrump is chickening out of an agreed-upon debate. Harris is responding wisely. Former President Donald Trump is reportedly chickening out of the second presidential debate, insisting on a new date, setting and format that he thinks will favor him. But Vice President Kamala Harris, the de facto Democratic presidential nominee, plans to appear at the initially scheduled place and time — Sept. 10 on ABC — regardless of whether or not Trump shows. It’s a smart move that’ll help lay bare both Trump’s self-doubt, and his lack of interest in anything civic-minded that doesn’t help him. For months, Trump obsessed over the idea of a debate against President Joe Biden, framing his eagerness as “for the good of the country.” He told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt last year that he was ready to do “10 debates” with the president. In May, Biden’s and Trump’s campaigns agreed on the format for two presidential debates. And after Biden’s disastrous first debate performance, Trump didn’t express hesitation over the second debate scheduled for September and moderated by ABC News. But with Biden out of the race and with Harris set to replace him, Trump’s thinking has changed. He posted on Truth Social on Friday that the agreement he had made with Biden was “terminated” because “Biden will no longer be a participant, and I am in litigation against ABC Network …. thereby creating a conflict of interest.” Neither excuse makes sense. Trump’s lawsuit against ABC — concerning anchor George Stephanopoulos’ saying Trump had been found “liable for rape” — was filed in March, weeks before he agreed to the ABC debate. And Trump and Biden didn’t just to agree to the debate because they thought it’d be a good time. They did so because they were considered de facto nominees for their parties. Now Harris is all but certain to be the nominee, so it only makes sense that she would take Biden’s place in the debate. Indeed, Trump isn’t even pretending the debate is entirely off. He has instead proposed a new date and — more important — a new format. The debate, he says, should be held on Trump-worshipping turf at Fox News, and it should take place before a “full arena audience.” Trump’s new debate terms give the game away. Now that he fears embarrassment against an energetic new candidate who can communicate far more effectively than her predecessor, he wants to rig the environment with moderators and audience members who are far more likely to make him look more competent, reasonable and well-liked than his opposition. Rest of article here: Why the Sept. 10 debate is shaping up to be a win-win for Kamala Harris

Served in the National Guard, former football coach, rural roots. Old white dude. She's hitting all the right targets with her VP pick.
Especially compared to Vance. God I hope Vance ends up like Palin and drags Trump down even further if that is humanly possible.

I haven't seen Walz speak yet, but he can't be more wooden and awkward than Vance.
Painful to watch. Somehow even worse than Trump.

In a way, Vance hits similar negative buttons as Hillary for me (and I believe others). She reminds me of that teacher's pet in elementary school who was perfect in every way. Vance is that guy in school who was always sucking up to adults to win their approval. Those deep memories I think have an impact on our perceptions.

If you have never watched the movie Election with Reese Witherspoon, you should.
