I watched Biden's speech. Made some bold promises. But no reason for dropping out other than saying time for younger people to take the reins. Everyone knows its his health but he just couldn't bring himself to admit it. it is not his health. it is the perception that "everyone knows it's his health" the media shitcanned him. #ageism Exactly. All we heard about for months was the ‘doddering old man.’ That’s backfired on Trump badly, though, because now Trump is the doddering old man. Suddenly people are paying attention to his ramblings and word gaffs. This is why he called himself a young man the other day. Too late. He made it all about age, and he’s old.

I'm looking to see how she rebrands herself clothing wise from VP to Presidential candidate. Blue suit, instead of browns the other day. She did look happy in one of the MKE clips I watched. No, just no. Women should know better than to critique other women's clothes. Let's not help the right along that petty avenue. Don't forget that Kamala needs to look happier and smile more too if she wants to win! We don't want a mean bitchy president who might push the button during her period do we?

Do you ever watch the police procedural with the Regan family in it? Erin decides to run for DA and it was interesting how consultants told her to change her image to become electable. I think one episode she was in a very bright magenta pantsuit. Need to look obviously female I guess.

You said it nicer than I did last night when I deleted a response I made to this. I don’t give a f as to what she wears as long as she is appropriately dressed and (hopefully) comfortable. No one gives a fat rat’s ass as to what Biden or Trump wore, why should Kamala have to rebrand herself? All this does is play into the misperceptions of women being more concerned about fashion than running the country. Woman already have so many things working against them as to generalzations, why contribute to it?

Is it worth taking the risk and reelecting him? Polling was suggesting enough people thinking not. Could he have turned it around? Enough people in power positions were thinking not. So pressure was applied to create a change in nominee. I think it was a necessary move. Definitely agree it creates the issue stated for Trump.

Yep, Trump made it about age and was so comfortable about winning he picked an extreme MAGA who is up to his neck in Project 2025. Can't deny knowing about it, surely they vetted Vance. Did President Biden just pull off one of the best campaign strategies in US history?

I am not sure why Obama wasn't impeached at least ten times by the Democratic party held House and Senate for wearing a tan business suit. What the fuck was Obama thinking!

Listening to the RW pundits I think I have some idea what the rich white boys are thinking. How dare he dress like its summer to look friendlier to us rich folk. It's the Presidency dammit, not some country club. Guessing... As someone who has never belonged to a country club or summered on Long Island, it wouldn't have occurred to me that it signaled something important to the rich congress critters etc. But having lived out East long enough, and read certain magazines, I think I am starting to see what they chose to assume.

Trump is now saying Harris isn’t eligible to run for president because she is committing crimes, although he didn’t say what crimes.
The irony is so thick I’m choking on it.

Of all the Presidential female spouses she is the only one I thought made fashion choices that could apply to my life.

I find this video from Ted Cruz on X amusing. x.com/i/status/1816282594008285377Well Ted you probably bought crappy guns anyway so I am good. Which gasoline engine you talking about? Is one attached to a nice truck or car? Or just a good lawnmower your illegal lawncare guy uses? Just asking. I won't take your beef either unless you bought something good. How about free-range beef 85/15 or 80/20? But in all seriousness Ted, you do realize the pandemic is basically over, right? Meat packing plants are running just fine. Prices are up, but if your boy Trump wouldn't invite Putin to take Crimea and what the heck feel free to reclaim Ukraine, we wouldn'r be here globally now would we? Piece of chocolate please. This man gives me a headache. (Stream of conciousness ... nothing more. Ted, I take vacations when there are problems, Cruz.)

I don't understand why there wasn't pearl clutching at the idea of a former "model" in the White House. What "family values"?

Melania is white I was being polite using the term "model". Most pearl clutchers have a problem with "models". It still comes down to Melania is white. It's a whole host of racial prejudices against African American women and their bodies vs the "ideal standard" of a white European woman. They were willing to overlook Melania in exchange for getting a white dude with his equally white wife back in office.

Exactly. We heard it, so people tuned into the debate to see for themselves. And what they witnessed was "a bad night" that supported what they had been hearing. Was it an anomaly? Perhaps. He had a bad debate. Lord knows, Trump had even worse but no one jumped on the bandwagon that he’s a dottering old fool (and I have yet to hear a coherent sentence come out of his mouth recently). I read an article that said the media bought into this, and swayed the public. At that point, it started feeding on itself and the media was liking the clicks that this was getting for them. He had one bad debate. Thank God I didn’t get put out to pasture at 42, when I gave an absolutely crappy talk at a research meeting and got raked over the coals. I guess it mattered that I had presented flawlessly 15 years prior…..or 15 years after. In the worst case scenario, had Biden needed to step down, there would have been someone perfectly competent to take his place seamlessly. Now we are dealing with all this shit. My take on this is that if the Dems in power had age related concerns, they could have brought this to Biden a year ago when noises started about getting him reelected. They did not. Why? M6 best guess was that until he had the debate, he WAS perfectly competent to run the country and all of this hinges off a bad night. This never should have happened.

You forgot about his wife daring to wear a dress without sleeves. The horror! his wife, who wasn't even working at the time. then the young, blond, Republican press secretary comes out for a press conference wearing what looked like a tank top. I remember making a FB comment about the double standard and what's considered "professional attire" and the comments went a little sideways when the mental gymnastics crew chimed in.

If your "absolutely crappy talk" had been at a job interview instead of a research meeting, probably would have seriously impacted your chances of getting the job. Presidential debates are job interviews. Biden blew it in the eyes of most (including you since you state above he had a bad debate). You gave him a pass. Others on the hiring committee, i.e. the voters, weren't giving him one. So he was removed from the list of potential hires. Happens all the time, just rarely at this level.

Unfortunately, he was interviewing for the job he already has - but the hiring committee doesn’t know how to actually review his work.

Doesn't always work that way. The worst job interview performance in history landed Brett Kavanaugh a Supreme Court position.
