The actual event sounds like its a total mess so far! I expected that. Qatar should have never been awarded in the first place.
What I was surprised about is how solid the USMNT is this year!
Just wondering if anyone wants to discuss. I'm not the biggest soccer/football fan, but for some reason I really love the world cup. I know a lot of people are boycotting it this year, but I am at least going to follow the events online.
Also, I just realized the 2026 WC is being jointly hosted by US/Canada/Mexico. I am super excited about that, and I'm hoping to can go to a game!

Cookies Galore and I both mentioned earlier that we want to try to get tickets in 2026, as both our cities' NFL stadiums have been selected as host sites.
I am not the biggest soccer fan either, but you're right. something about the WC. I've had it on for background noise today, and just raised the volume a couple ticks for the US game about to start.

The opening ceremony was a hypocritical joke. I like that the Iranian team refused to sing the national anthem.

Totally into it again. I ignore all the pomp, circumstance, politics and whining and just watch the games. I always root for the Dutch and the US. It’s an event that ties the whole world together…for fun!

I'll watch the U.S. games as much as I can. If I were at home I would watch more, but I'm at the GF's in Florida now. Between being busy being "Boyfriend" and not having cable here I'm guessing I won't have much more opportunity.

And they should! Everything I have read so far about the lead up to the WC has been horrible! The housing, venues, stadiums, etc were basically built on slave labor! With thousands of deaths! |

I woke up in time to catch most of the early game this morning. what a stunner - Saudi Arabia beat Argentina, 2-1. very late in stoppage time, one of the Saudi players needed to be taken off the field via stretcher. his goalie was nearly inconsolable. there was a very violent collision as they both rushed to prevent a goal. they jumped at the same time, neither was aware of the other, and the goalie's knee smashed the other player in the face. the camera zoomed in a little as he was being carried off the field, he had gauze in his nose and mouth. I've been looking for updates, I hope he will be okay.  he's easily gotta have a broken nose and have lost a few teeth. |
