So I was a few days off. Brazilian soccer legend Pelé dies at 82Sao Paulo, Brazil CNN Pelé, the Brazilian soccer legend who won three World Cups and became the sport’s first global icon, has died at the age of 82. “Everything that we are, is thanks to you,” his daughter Kely Nascimento wrote in a post on Instagram, under an image of family members holding Pele’s hands. “We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.” Pelé was admitted to a hospital in São Paulo in late November for a respiratory infection and for complications related to colon cancer. Last week, the hospital said his health had worsened as his cancer progressed. He died on Thursday from multiple organ failure due to the progression of colon cancer, according to a statement from Albert Einstein Hospital. Brazilian soccer legend Pelé dies at 82 Got to see him back in the 70’s. It was an exhibition game. My son signed up to play soccer so we had to drive to New Orleans to see Pele. Not that that means diddly squat but he was “famous” and I’ll admit I never understood soccer for the most part. But I can say I saw Pele play As did I. The first sporting event in Seattle's Kingdome was in 1976. Pele had signed with the New York Cosmos and they were playing an exhibition game. The crowd was over 58,000, which was reportedly a record crowd size for soccer in the U.S. at the time.

That he was. He told anyone who would listen that he saw Pele live. Of course I got to tell anyone who would listen that I got to see Oakland A’s and Reggie Jackson in the 70’s. Also exhibition game in New Orleans. Love those A’s!
