Good morning, conscientious and capable invisipeeps, keeping the world spinning in its orbit. Welcome to Wednesday, and yet another date with all prime numerals and numbers within itself. I hope your day is a prime one in the best sense of the word, and includes a fine dessert. Yesterday I got my eyes examined to discover I have no evidence of glaucoma or cataracts. My distance vision is not up to snuff but it also does not improve appreciably with correction. The doctor noted I have a bit of astigmatism in my left, worse, eye and suspects that over the years it has become lazy, leaving my right eye to take up the burden. So, I'm getting progressive lens glasses. I've been using OTC readers for over 20 years now. Since I work so many hours on screen my eyes work harder than they would otherwise, so that is also a compromise to my near sight. Nice not to have anything dramatic wrong. Today or tomorrow we're having grab bars installed in the shower. We have a fiberglass surround so need to use special mounts for the grab bar that fill the gap between the surround and the stud. I'm glad we have a good handyman. It was a bit cloudy yesterday morning, but no precipitation. I got several shots, but especially like the purples in this one.

I am up and mildly rested. I actually slept for 7 hours last night. My week mostly ends Thursday. I am doings some work on Friday, but it's going to be a comp day. And if a person at work keeps saying how they can take time off for vacation, I'm going to really get upset.

It's gonna be a big coffee day. This week coaching dd14 thru her first set of hs finals and one last research paper that she procrastinated way too much on bc she got overwhelmed by all of it and stuck in perfection mode.
At 7 pm last night as I was already in jammies, she came in my room to ask how much energy and patience I had left. She tagged me in on a close senior friend's final paper on hip hop and BLM. Teen was stuck and seems to be constantly fighting with their parents.
Story I got was parents denying help, sounds like a power struggle. Anyway, you guys, the teen had one paragraph, some research, and lots of internet article links. I helped her outline and googled several articles about her topics together. I may have written a paragraph or two but mostly kept prompting her when she got stuck and stared at the screen. Keep typing kid and we will heavily edit to make it better.
Mom initially said be home by 10...we had 3 pages drafted at that point so teen requested more time and got midnight. I'm too old for midnight but I saw 12:30 am as teen blew curfew even though I said not to. She took our 7 printed pages that I edited in red ink as proof of work. Hope mom concedes that it was worth it.
Love, love, love that Dd14 and teen trust me enough to ask me to tag in but man today is gonna be a long one at work.
Oh, did I mention that dd14 was prepping for Spanish final and throwing me phrases to translate bc I was quicker than looking them up? Great brain exercise for me, just wondering if she knows how multi-talented that makes me (half kidding). Teen was like wait, your mom speaks Spanish too? I thought you said she could be a great math tutor. I piped up, sure thing but don't ever expect me to science LOL.
Oh, on the way out the door, teen said she still had to record a podcast for an acting class and something else for zoology. Yowza! You can bet that I bring up procrastination with dd14 this weekend with those examples. Dd14 is going to eek her way thru final projects and finals mostly bc she's gifted but also bc it's freshmen level work. Workload is higher yr by yr.

Our HS has moved to what they call "bridge week." Mostly no finals. Students who need to take the time to complete assignments/raise their grades have the time. You have to show up for attendance purposes, but then you are done. They started that during Covid. I figured they''d stop at some point., But they aren't. We also have a new policy at school where a kid cant get lower than a 50%. Even if they get 0s on everything, they get a 50. That one I'm still a little weird over. These kids are the ones that need to be job ready when they leave HS.. If I do 0 work at work, I'm getting 0 pay. I'm not getting 50% of my hourly rate.. Or, eventually, I'll be fired. I suppose that means I'm still pretty old schooled at heart.

My Blackie used to be similar. She would not go to bed till I did. She was so old, sometimes I would give up and go as she would nod off and I felt sorry for her. So I would get in my adjustable bed and crank it up and watch telly or read so she could be with me.
Hubs didn't want to, but he tolerated her when he was home. She would normally curl up in my right arm, but that was on the same side as him and she didn't like him either. So I got her to go to the left arm and she was ok. She did disrupt my sleep a lot as she wasn't real big and I was afraid I would roll on her and sometimes my arm would get uncomfortable. But I put up with the old girl, she made it to 21. I still think of her as I do BJ.

You did good, azucena, for your DD and her friend. And, the friend's parents who are probably in a mire of their own.

Good job helping azucena and may your coffee be plentiful today.
I am trying to break the perfectionist tendencies myself. I will procrastinate forever if I don't know exactly how to do it. I got a small letter board at Michael's last year and it says progress over perfection. I keep trying to beat that into my head.
The latest was a coworker asked for a review/recommendation type of thing to add to her self-assessment for her annual review. I was happy to do so and this person helps me out a lot. When I agreed to it I was thinking about the perspective I could write it from. Then it took me days to finish because I couldn't find exact examples of this type of thing. It's not something I've heard of us doing previously. I did think it was very smart of her to solicit these though. Due to promotions and shuffling, the manager writing her assessment only supervised her for about a month.
I have to learn to get out of my own way and just get started. It was a great product with specific examples when I finished and she was very happy but dang. It shouldn't have taken me days.

You can bet that I bring up procrastination with dd14 this weekend with those examples. Dd14 is going to eek her way thru final projects and finals mostly bc she's gifted but also bc it's freshmen level work. Workload is higher yr by yr. I totally understand that doing all of this was a huge unexpected strain on you and that it won't help you get through work today. But I think it was super nice of you and says a lot about your character, that you made the effort to help this child. Not that it compares to what you had to do, in any way. But years ago, I was a pregnant teenager, married while finishing high school, so I didn't drink. My husband and some of his friends however, went to the bar often. Our friends had young children, who I would babysit, while they were at the bar. One of the kids was a 6 1/2 yr old boy, who was about to fail kindergarten, for the 2nd time. I didn't understand this, because he was a bright child. Through gentle questioning of him and his slightly older siblings, I found out what he was lacking, and why he would likely be held back again. They were simple things. Like being able to recite his ABC's, count to a certain number and tie his shoes. There were more, but you get the idea. I found out that his parents/family didn't work with him, at all, to learn these things. They thought that's what his teacher was supposed to be doing. They got frustrated and angry that he couldn't do them. And he believed that he couldn't. So I encouraged him, telling him he WAS smart and that he could do them. Then I started making up games and teaching him songs, etc. Practicing all the skills he needed, to graduate. And he did it! No long after that, I got divorced and lost touch with him and his family. Fast forward 22 yrs. I ran into him and his wife, at my DD1's house. And he told everyone about what had happened, all those yrs ago and said, he never would have completed school, or done anything with his life, had it not been for me. I was shocked, to hear that! We both had tears in our eyes. He owns his own business now and is making something of himself. Because 1 person believed in him and was willing to listen and help, all those years ago. Maybe your willingness to help this young person, will have similar results. Perhaps you've help build their confidence and given them skills, to do things themselves, in the future. You've enhanced their life in more ways than you'll ever realize, because you were willing and had the ability, to help them, when they weren't able to get that help, at home. Thank you, for your time, help and efforts. I hope your day goes smoothly and you get a nap in, at some point in your day. ♡

Supper was late, my bad, so I'm going to start fixing at 3:30/4:00 going forward. DH is doing some sort of intermittent fasting thing, but I don't know the timing, just that he needs to eat early for that and medication timing and acid reflux while sleeping. Too bad he can't actually honestly share the timing of anything but that would deprive him of something to bash me about, wouldn't it? Did it ever occur to him that he could make dinner instead of you? Seriously, I don't know why you haven't smothered him with a pillow yet.

Another morning of icy roads. MN511 is lit up with crashes. Double-checking all Carrot's docs for getting his passport. I spent way too much time trying to get a readable photocopy of ex's driver's license off of pictures he emailed me, but I think I have an acceptable one now.

Received a letter yesterday from my medical clinic. It said I have an allergy to penicillin noted in my records and that 90% of people who have that really do not have an allergy to penicillin.
I don't know if I really have an allergy to penicillin. Mom said I reacted to it when I was a baby so she said I must be allergic.
The letter invited me to call the allergy department to test to see if I really have an allergy to penicillin. I'm thinking I really do not.

I always indicate I have a penicillin allergy because as a child I passed out when injected with it. Hysterical fainting? Maybe. True allergy? Maybe. There are so many other antibiotics available now that I would be reluctant to go through testing to find out. I've only received antibiotics twice in the last 15-20 years, both times for an UTI, and the doc said they don't used penicillin for that anyway.

First, an interesting post on a celebrity who lost weight on Ozempic and regained twice the amount after stopping. One medical podcast I follow said that this may be a lifetime commitment. www.msn.com/en-us/health/weightloss/remi-bader-says-she-gained-double-the-weight-back-after-stopping-weight-loss-drug-ozempic/ar-AA16bXMa?cvid=a35b3d96158e44e4a99e993f3d543c56Azucena and TMR, your stories both break my heart and warm my heart. Heartbreaking because the parents didn't provide the support the kids needed. It's such a joy to watch kids learn and they all miss out. Also heartbreaking that people who call themselves educators didn't help. I still remember a 4th-grade teacher who made it her mission to teach a classmate form a very large, very poor family some basic reading after he'd just been passed from grade to grade. And she did, bless her. And it's heartwarming to see the two of you stepping in.

I have a new favorite phrase A group of us was discussing possibly adding one person to a committee and someone said, "Be careful, she's a Unicorn Breeder". When I signaled my confusion, he explained that Unicorn Breeders create mythical excuses to justify their inaction or inability. Tasked with recruiting for a position, they create impossible job criteria. Asked to write a 1-page summary of something, it's never possible to condense the topic so nothing is written. No meeting will ever take place at a date, time or location that accessible for their participation. Unicorn Breeders will not even cast a vote on anything because they see both sides. We selected someone else

Sigh. TD decided to get up at the buttcrack of dawn and go on a group walk. Since I was up, I thought I’d go to the gym. Every.single.piece of equipment was in use. I went to get coffee instead, and will try later.
My sister said the dogs are playing her. Harriet’s whining to go out to pee, when all she wants is a walk and to see what’s going on in the neighborhood. The mutts get 2 long walks and 3 trips down the road each day, so they do get out regularly. I think it’s because she is used to I having my attention all day, and my sister can’t while she’s working. Apparently Sheldon is being a pill too and trying to walk on her computer while she’s working. I need to suggest a decoy computer for the cat.
Notified last night we lost Kauaii (no services available) and are spending 2 days in Honolulu. I may spend some of that time looking for an AT&T store. I got an email yesterday that my data plan for my iPad (the one we fought so hard to keep last summer) is being discontinued. I have to get a new SIM card and sign up for another plan, same price but not unlimited data (but 50 GB). I have until 4/30 to register for this plan, and I’m not going to be home until June.

This is one time I’d actually do the research to be sure. A lot of antibiotics are based off of penicillin’s structure and many times if you are allergic to one, you might be allergic to others. You don’t want to have to find this out when you need it for something stupid. FWIW, probably the reason why my hip infection was so treatable was because I had very rarely used antibiotics. Once you start needing the newer classes of the antibiotics, they can have way more side effects and cost much more. My IV drug bill for an old antibiotic was only about $4000/mo. My ID doc told me I was lucky my infection was responsive to an old drug, otherwise I’d need to add a 0 to my drug bill. I was on it for 6 months.

Any idea on how they test and how much it would cost? I'm assuming they don't just give you a jab and see what happens.

You've probably already posted this before The Walk of the Penguin Mich and I missed it, but I was wondering how you got such a horrible infection in your hips.
Your experience sounds so painful and scary and I'm sorry you had to go through all that.

I'd like to know how they test for penicillin allergy, too. Forty years ago I broke out in hives and vomited when I was given penicillin, and haven't had any since. Maybe I was not actually allergic but those were symptoms of a concurrent affliction, or maybe I've lost my allergy, which I undestand is possible. Based on your comments, The Walk of the Penguin Mich, maybe testing would be smart.

I used to break out in hives as a kid/teen when I'd consumed any food/drink/medicine containing red dye #40. thankfully I've grown out of that one, it was a PITA.

Obviously I didn't know that about ozempic before, but I have heard that since. I may be finding out. But I wonder about DD and those taking it for diabetes, it would surely do the same.
So far have had an amazing almost year to be able to walk and not have the pain I had before. That is worth so much for me. Just have to see what I can do. I didn't binge eat anyway, so not that problem.
I slept well last night after sleeping all afternoon. I went to bed about 1 and slept till 8. I'm made DD get up and get her bath, taking her to town with me to get lunch, for her, and a few things from the grocer. Some milk and veggies. Just need to get out of the house. This drives me crazy in the winter, no place to go, nothing to do but work around here. I've heard other people say it's boring as hell around here.
