I walked in the den and Mister’s Dad was getting ready to eat chicken wings. I asked him where he got wings from and he said the refrigerator. I said noooo, those are really old! Like 3 weeks old! He said they’re fine, I steamed them and put some pineapple chunks on them. Since he wouldn’t listen to me, I called Mister and told him. He called his Dad and told him to throw them away. Dad threw them away. At least he told me he did. I am honestly surprised his Dad isn’t overweight, because all day long, it’s back and forth to the kitchen and refrigerator, eating and snacking. He said today that we need to buy some more groceries so he can eat. And I keep getting frustrated because now we have so many dirty dishes that the dishwasher needs to run twice most days. Every time I go back to unload it and load it again, somebody has opened it and didn’t turn it back on. Yesterday, the first load hadn’t finished by the time I went to bed. I’d loaded it like 6 hours prior. So I still had a whole load of dishes that needed to go in the dishwasher. Same thing today. I loaded it, and somebody came right behind me and opened it and didn’t turn it back on. ARRRGH!!! I told Mister yesterday, if the red light is showing on the floor NOBODY OPENS THE DAMN DISHWASHER! I’m pretty sure it’s his Dad, because that’s never been an issue before. I hate to keep bringing stuff up to Mister, especially since he’s good about correcting his Dad on his own, but that dishwasher thing was driving me nuts yesterday and I was afraid that old chicken was going to make his Dad sick this morning and he wouldn’t listen to me. Which reminds me, I need to clean out my refrigerator, if I can ever get the damn ish washer to complete a cycle. I can never find the broom. His bedroom has carpet. Idk why he keeps taking the broom in there in the first place, but that’s where I usually find it. I haven’t said anything about the broom, I just go get it. Maybe I’m just cranky today, but this shit is starting to get on my nerves. Maybe it's time to start investigating what if any help mister's dad might qualify for so he can go live at home. Even if he doesn't qualify for any medical type aid you could probably find a house keeping service or something to keep the place from falling into shambles while his wife is still recovering. Care.com might not be a bad place to start. They advertise elder sitters on TV. Yeah Mister will probably have to pay for it but it sounds like dad is starting to out stay his welcome. Trade off money for sanity. Something to think about. I went to the website, but you have to enter an email address to get real information. I can’t keep up with my emails as it is, so I will let Mister do that if he wants to. I hate that what I wrote made it sound like he’s wearing out his welcome. My brain says I don’t mind him being here, and I think that’s true. I just took him in the kitchen again and showed him the red light on the floor and told him please don’t open the dishwasher when this light is on. He said it’s been him doing it. The amount of food he’s eating, Mister has been buying the groceries, so that doesn’t really affect me or my pockets. The broom is a minor thing, but like Mister says and jokes about, I like for things to be in their place, so I don’t have to go looking for them. That’s why I try to give everything in my home a place to “live”. The dishwasher is what’s bugging me the most because I can’t get the sink clear of dirty dishes. I know I could just wash them by hand, but that’s not happening. Aside from constantly insulting Mister’s cooking, he does try to be a good guest, and he tells me all the time how much he appreciates me welcoming him into our home and trying to help him. Besides the fact that he is a likable guy, I know how I would’ve wanted my Grandmother to be treated well and feel welcome if she’d come to stay with me and Mister, so that’s how I treat Mister’s Dad. Notice I didn’t say my Mom lol, and my Grandmother died before I even met Mister. But my Grandmother is a better comparison because I would’ve been honored to have my Grandmother with me and help her in whatever way she needed. My Mom, not so much, unfortunately. Anyway, I was mostly just venting. Ranting here is better than popping off IRL, know what I mean? But I will keep the suggestions in mind. Thank you!

Are you looking for #3? not actively, but this guy was a spotlight fundraiser subject for this rescue. so I threw my hat in the approvals ring. he's a year or two older than my two, and is currently recovering from his 2nd ACL surgery. my golden girl walked this path during COVID, so I know what to expect with him as he moves past surgery and recovery, and my two are characters. if he's also a little bit weird, he'd fit right in.

The humidifier I bought, definitely humidifies lol. I’m glad Mister let me “borrow” his hygrometer, because after we both showered last night, the humidity in our bedroom was over 60% so I turned it off. I figured that might be an issue, and I’m glad I thought about it. I wish I’d gotten one with a humidistat so it would turn off automatically when it gets to a certain point, but oh well.

I'm vegetating at home after a blood donation. They were out of Nutter Butters. I had to make do with Oreos. I asked the phlebotomist, who was pleasant and chatty, if they had a maximum age for donors. She told me they had a 96-year old lady show up at a mobile drive- legally blind and in a wheel chair. She passed all the screenings so they let her donate. What an illustration of how far we go to find meaning and purpose in life even when we have limitations imposed on us. The guy from Anderson came today and they'll be doing the bigger job even though they're more expensive- these are the windows facing the lake and the back yard, 100" high. Because that side gets a lot of sun and isn't sheltered by trees or anything else, I want it long-lasting. I told him his price was higher than Pella's (not any specifics) and asked him why and was satisfied with the answer. He factored in tempered glass on all 3 panes even though the only way anyone could fall through one would be from a tall ladder. If not required by code, that will knock about $2,000 off. That will be determined by the guy who comes in and does detailed specs next week. The current windows are actually a smaller transom window above a much longer window; the new ones will be a single window. Cheaper and I think the unbroken line will look nicer, too. Not sure why the builder used transoms since they can't be opened for ventilation. I'll have Pella do the front windows around September if I have the funds (most likely will but you never know). Both said 8-10 week for delivery although the giant ones will be closer to 10 weeks since they're custom.

These give me the heebie jeebies even at 53. Steep, painted wood and me don't get along. I would break my neck.
I'd be sliding down those stairs on my butt, at 44. I probably still would have, even in HS/college. eff that! Those steps look quite nice compared to the ones DS3 has in his house that was built in 1860. The steps go to the attic which has 2 bedrooms and a toilet. No sink, just a toilet. Probably did that so the stairs don't need to be used during the night. That said, fiancee's son has fallen down them and he is in 1st grade. That is why fiancee says they have to move when they have kids and they want to have kids.

I broke down and bought the Amazon Halo view that I had been eying. It is Amazon's version of a Fitbit. It's on sale and came with your choice of another band. And it comes with a year of free monitoring. I will decide if I want to continue the monitoring ($3.99 a month right now) after that year is up. It might be almost as cheap to buy a new watch since that is standard with it. I have been good about going to the Y for walking. My insurance company will pay me $10 a month if I do 5000 steps 10 days out of the month. They don't have to be consecutive. So that will pay for the view. Of course, I could self-record the steps as well, but what's the fun in that?

I am down to just the kitties room to mop, the house looks so much cleaner. These hardwood floors mop like a breeze. I use Bona, it's supposed to be on it's own but I add it to water and it does just fine.
Dinner is over, cheeseburgers, fried potatoes, and corn, I just nibbled. Ate some potatoes and a bit of corn, had a raw potato before dinner. I don't like cheeseburgers, sometimes just a hamburger with a sweet pickle and no bread.
I need to dust, just did some of it the other day, need to do it all. Same old, same old, get tired of this routine.
I don't know about hubs, maybe he is trying to please me and hope I won't want to go. I feel sorry for him, he doesn't like the weather or anything up there. He is likely trying to drag it out till I give up, who knows. I will let it play out and see.
Daily we see 1 or 2 or more people he knows passing away. Lots and lots of elderly people here who had good jobs, pensions and such, why the community is still in decent shape. So many coming up are not, lots of poverty here. The kids of those get an education and many leave, not all, but a lot.

Those are the back stairs would have been for the servants making beds and that sort of thing. The main one is the one I would use. That tells me it's a true old house. The servants were not to be seen as much as possible, goes from the kitchen area. Did you see the magnificent cook stove? I wonder if that stays, hubs said likely not. But that town does flood, so that would be an issue. He doesn't want to pay much and thinks he can find something to remodel, however, all I've seen with low prices to remodel appear to be flood houses.
I saw a beautiful manufactured home today but it was another with a lot lease of $700 a month, not going there. The price wasn't bad at all though. None of those seem to be on a lot you can buy or if you can it's in a terrible area. So much like Houston with no zoning that's what you get, houses next to businesses, I'm not sure why it's like that but that is why there are so many HOA's.

I'm just looking around and picking them by price, so that one came up. After being up there, I'm getting familiar with the areas and that helps.
Also it has a shop which matters to me. I want hubs to get something out of the move if we do.
I really prefer the one by son, but beyond our budget. If we could sell it all could likely manage it but hubs doesn't want to put all that money in a house. He thinks prices will drop, they are up there already. I'm seeing $20 to $40k knocked off and a lot I see pending one day the next day or two may be back on the market again. Apparently they can't qualify or can't handle the payments.

I agree on older construction. Here's the first house I ever bought- a two-family built around 1900 and it just sold a year ago for $649,000. The 2X 4's actually were 2" X 4" and they were SOLID. Termite inspector thought he'd find them and found nothing. Glad i:m not paying the $14,000 property taxes on it, though. www.zillow.com/homedetails/117-Ramapo-Ave-Pompton-Lakes-NJ-07442/39771882_zpid/I agree with you, though. Best to have one level as you age, or at least not stairs you HAVE to climb to get to anything essential. My grandparents' ancient but well-built house had steep, narrow stairs down to an ugly basement but that's where the "Pittsburgh potty" was (apparently a common feature in the Midwest so you could come in from work all dirty and not mess up the main bath on the second story). Grandma fell on those steps and ended up with a compound ankle fracture. Sadly, most new construction has a lot of living space either in the basement or a second story or both.

When Mister got home, he went in the kitchen and immediately started cussing. I went and asked him what was wrong, there was a bowl of food in the sink, but not on the garbage disposal side. I try to keep the side with the garbage disposal clear, even if there are dirty dishes, so there’s no excuse to put plates and bowls with food on/in them, on the other side. I took a stand a long time ago on that, back when we were fussing and fighting about the teens, and I said I was done fishing food out of the drain on the wrong side of the sink every day and I was going to just let it clog up so it would be his problem since nobody was listening to me. And I did just that, even though it kinda drove me crazy leaving all that stuff in and around the drain and seeing all the black stuff (mold?) around the drain. It got clogged and stopped draining soon after lol. He hates doing plumbing stuff with a passion, even though he knows how, so he was really aggravated about having to fix it. I had NO empathy or sympathy, because my requests to not put food on that side of the sink had been falling on deaf ears for a long time. But after he had to fix it, food magically stopped being on the wrong side of the sink. It was a powerful lesson for me, if I stop fighting and let things carry on to their natural consequences…… if the consequences involve something he REALLY doesn’t like to have to deal with or fix, it will become important to him to resolve the problem and avoid the consequences again. Unfortunately, most things aren’t as straightforward and easily resolved in that way. Anyway, that’s probably why it upset his nerves today seeing the bowl of food on the wrong side. Honestly though, I probably would’ve handled it if I’d seen it first, since it was his Dad that did it. So when he was talking to his Dad about it, and showing him which side the garbage disposal is on, Dad said, okay I’ll get it. Mister said something I don’t remember. Dad said just get out of my way so I can fix it. He said it in a joking way, and I kind of laughed on the inside. Then I heard the garbage disposal running. He’s a good sport and doesn’t get upset or offended when we tell him how we run our household. I understand it’s probably not easy trying to adapt to someone else’s household routines at almost 70yo, when you’ve been the head of your own household since you were 19 or 20yo, but he does try, and I appreciate that. And I appreciate that he is not trying to take over and insist on trying to do whatever he wants however he wants, thinking we are supposed to just live with it, and just being disrespectful of our home, like my Mom did me. As aggravated as I was earlier today, I’d still take Mister’s Dad being here over trying to live with my Mom again. Mister is gone now to take him to spend the weekend at the hospital with his Mom. He has been doing a lot better with going to see her after I talked to him and gave him my perspective. And Mom likes it, because yesterday Mister told her he was bringing Dad to spend the weekend after he got off work today. She said “after you get off work? That’s late.” Before last weekend, he wasn’t coming much at all, and only when Mister made him go. Last weekend, after my spiel, was the first time he spent the night. And even then, when Mister took him, when Mister was leaving after visiting with his Mom, his Dad looked all sad like a little kid and asked “You’re leaving me here?” But then he ended up willingly spending 2 or 3 nights there with her. So if my little talk got him to be there more with her, I’m glad I inserted myself into their business and talked to him even though I am definitely a *mind my own business* kind of person, because her comment yesterday showed that she really does want him with her. Just like I figured she did, because that’s what I would want. YD left earlier today and said she probably won’t be back until Monday. I’m tempted to go take all my clothes off and run through the house nekkid. I think Mister is picking Kiddo up on his way back home though, so it wouldn’t be long before I’d have to put some clothes back on lol.

Grandma fell on those steps and ended up with a compound ankle fracture. Sadly, most new construction has a lot of living space either in the basement or a second story or both. When Mister and I got serious about buying a house, his intention was to give me a “forever home”. That seemed to be very important to him. So I was adamant that we buy a house that was just one level. I kept reminding him that even though he is younger than me, he already has bad knees, and it just seemed sensible to avoid potential problems with stairs in a 2 story house if we were buying a house to grow old together in. Plus, I know several people with 2 story houses, and they very rarely go upstairs, for different reasons, so imo, that can end up being just wasted space that you pay to heat and cool. Even with this house, both our Moms have mobility issues, and they both usually take the long walk to the front door to come inside, to avoid the steps into the house from the garage, which is a much closer way to get inside from the driveway. You have to step up 4 times to get inside the house from the garage. Even his Dad has been holding on to the back of my car to get up and down those steps since he’s been here. Our garage is so tight that to fit both cars, I back in and park so close to the wall you that you probably can’t get in on the passenger side, and it’s backed up right to the steps so the garage door can close. That’s why he is able to hold onto my car when he’s on the steps. I guess we will eventually have to install a rail beside those steps, because we might need it ourselves one day. It’s not a huge house, around 2,500sf of living space, but most houses in the area with that sf or more, or often even less, are 2 story houses. 2 story houses seem to have just become the thing to build at some point. I do not regret at all buying a house that’s all on one level. If I had to do it again, I’d try to not even have the steps in the garage lol. I know it’s possible, you only have to step up once to get inside the house from the garage at my other house.

Got grandma's check card activated. It's only good till April hopefully a new one shows up.
It works to buy her clothes. Cause funny thing it turns out personal checks are outdated!
Supposedly Target still accepts them. I didn't look into Walmart.
But I wasn't taking the chance. Not when it took two seconds to bring her into the 21st century.

Going to a Judy Collins concert at our small town historic theater. shit. this is how overloaded my brain is with music trivia. i now have "Both Sides Now" firmly stuck in my head after a couple weeks of showtunes, just from seeing her name. so, thanks? 🤷♀️ she's playing here soon, too, or just did. enjoy!

What brand is your new coat? I just replaced my old Eddie Bauer Long Down coat with a similar EB long down coat, and I am disappointed with it. It is nowhere near as warm as the old one. Unfortunately, I got rid of the old one already. I have a EB down coat that is just above my knee that I wear for every day. That one is pretty warm, and it has a zipper pocked on the upper chest that I really like for my phone when I am walking the dogs. On really cold days, I like to use a long down coat for my walks. I am thinking I should try something like LL Bean or Lands' end. My EB down coat is incredibly warm. It’s gotten a few trial rounds when we have gone to Calgary, and it works. I bought this one a few years ago. www.eddiebauer.com/p/20612953/women's-sun-valley-down-parka?sp=1&color=Blue%20Smoke&size= Yeah, that is my “Everyday” coat. I also have a similar coat in red that is a bit longer. Idk how to do a link with my phone, but the one I just bought is the Lodge down duffle coat. My problem is the Polar Vortex days when it is -20 or -35 with windchill. Then I want the coat to be like a sleeping bag.

Good morning, scintillating invisipeeps, with your helpful advice and commentary shared in Y Ma'am. Welcome to Saturday! Thus completes the first full week of 2023. I hope your day is complete with plenty of play time. Here today the sun is expected to appear at some point. It's been raining every day for most of the past week, a grayness that won't dispel. Snow would be welcome. I'm about 2/3 done putting away Christmas decorations. I left up the tree, wreath and candles in the windows for a few more days. Smaller things are packed away. Instead of rewrapping ornaments in old pieces of newspapers or bubble wrap and stuffing them into boxes, I got a couple of storage units from Costco that include compartments that can vary in size in trays. It was easy and next year we'll be so much better organized. Silly what a boost little things can be. Franklin the Dog is due for a bath. I'll bring him to the Tractor Supply Co. for one. Need to find a groomer nearby--that would be worth it. With the solidly gray and wet weather today's picture is not of the beach, but of the bridge on the main road through town here. This bridge opens up to allow ships passage each hour. Its midsection rotates to reveal 2 shipping lanes, one in each direction. It's 100 years old now. There is a plan in the offing to update or replace it, but for now it works.

Cannot believe i am awake this early on a Saturday morning. Oh well maybe a nap is in order this afternoon. I haven't slept yet, so I expect I'll either fall asleep in an hour, or so, or I too will nap later today. I do need to finish bringing my groceries in and take my garbage out, today. But there's just so much going on right now. Somehow, I'll get through it. I just don't know how, at this point. Things are a bit overwhelming right now. Have a good weekend! Hugs to those who want/need them. Remember that I care. ♡

CG - I love you, you remind me of my stubborn godmother/aunt who will turn 80 this year. I think we would get along well in real life. So please slow down and hear me saying this in a loving tone...Buy this one! Yes, it's $700/month but I've seen your numbers and you can afford it and this is coming from a risk averse/saver personality just like yourself. Get yourself up to WA as soon as you can. Your relationship with son and DIL is good, let it continue to flourish. And think of the payment as what it takes to pour your love, wisdom, and heck, even your work ethic into grandson particularly while he's still young enough to mold. Not many of those years left. Plus, it puts DD closer to the 3 of them and it's clear they love her and will help you make her life wonderful. And, it sets them up to help care for her as you continue to age. This will ease your mind about her immensely and that itself is worth the money. As for DH, we all know he will need a project, so turn him loose to work on son's handyman list. He can take a huge weight off son getting it done, save him a ton of money, and likely share skills with son and grandson - win, win, WIN. Plus when DH finally slows down, you're not left stuck living in a project house that is only partially finished. And sell, sell, sell the rentals. Don't keep trying to update them to perfection - that's a grand gesture but not necessary and is delaying your family time. You also don't need to wait for top dollar or the rental folks you're fond of to land in perfect spots. You've provided great homes and security for them for years. The rentals have served their purpose - you accumulated wealth from them. It's time to move on. I know change is scary as will not having the running income coming in, but it's time. You need to move into the spend down phase of your retirement. Your whole family (you, DH, DD, DS, DGS) deserve it. If you were to poll YM, I bet you'd get almost 100% YES vote on this one. And you know we almost never get our shit together to be unanimous especially about spending money, so please take that into consideration of how much we all think this move would work out entirely in your favor both personally and financially.

I understand why she wouldn't want to go with the manufactured home. The $700/mo. is in addition to whatever the manufactured home costs. I've read of various manufactured home parks being bought out by speculators who raise the lot rents by major amounts. I wouldn't want to be in the situation of having to move that home quickly or put up with a major increase in lot rent. Some doubled or tripled.
I think she can find a one level home in the near future. Waiting until the real estate market settles more is probably a good idea.

That is why fiancee says they have to move when they have kids and they want to have kids. there's a lot to be said for solid construction, and generations past lived in these houses for decades. there is zero reason for CG to seek out a place that isn't 1 level, at this point in her life, between her and her DH, and DD for consideration. True. When I was looking at this house, I specified in had to a one story with laundry on the main floor. I had seen how mom struggled doing laundry when it was in the basement. I don't want to get to the point. Their house had no room to move the laundry upstairs. The house built in 1860 is very well built. The drawings from when it was built came with the house. It's quirky because of how indoor plumbing was added. I know nephew loves that house and he has done things like adding electricity up to code in the kitchen so he could have a dishwasher and washer and dryer. He loves that house so it will take some talking to get him to move. He doesn't want close neighbors, so he bought 5 acres in addition to the house. He can still feel like a farm boy while living in the city. The location is now perfect for them.

Last night I was doing happy dances as my Colorado women's basketball team upset #8 undefeated Utah. They are really getting in to their groove and I hope they can continue playing this well and no injuries to a player that means the end of their season.
Our point guard is much smarter than I thought. She graduated with a 4.0 for her bachelor's degree in 3 years and plans to graduate in May with her Master's degree.
She also loves the coaching staff but says she will never get used to snow and cold weather. She's from Alabama.

I must have dreamed about cookies or something. There will be chocolate chip cookies in my future today. Butter is sitting out to soften. Also lots of laundry.
