Then they better not leave my garage strewn all over my freaking lawn. They better not do that anyway or I would file complaints every time that happened - and I would not be the only one. City hall, which awards the contracts, would be included on each and every one of those complaints. That said our (untipped) garbage collectors don't make a mess. Ours is actual city employees they are not a private company contracted out. We pay taxes every quarter for services. They got us by the balls pretty much.

Here tipping for garbage service is not a practice I've heard of. When we had a housekeeper, I gave her an extra week's pay at Christmas. Our landscaper and his crew get large Christmas tips-they are so good at what they do and take pride in their work. He doesn't nickel and dime me during the year if I ask him to reset 1 sprinkler head or whack a branch off.
I tip on my haircuts and pedicures, and I'll probably gift the nail salon lady something at Christmas too because she is so good.

If I tip my cleaning lady, then shouldnt work be tipping me every time I do anything . Where does that end? Maybe nurses should be tipped, as well........ I leave a gift certificate for Tim Horton's for my mailman at Christmas. It's COLD, then. Maybe some coffee or hot soup will be appreciated.

Just a PSA….. Always ask for a receipt. I was in a convenience store last week. There was a young lady at the counter, then an older man, then me in line. After the older man counted out change to pay for his beer, a female employee walked over the register where a young man had rang up the 2 purchases in front of me. The female employee asked a customer that was in line behind me if her daughter was still outside. She said the older man’s purchase rang up on the young lady’s account because the transaction wasn’t finalized. The customer went outside to get her daughter, and when she came back in, the female employee gave her all the change the older gentleman had used to pay for his purchase. The young lady was understandably upset and kept saying that she’d used Apple Pay and it never asks for a PIN. I didn’t know how it happened that her payment method was open for the person behind her to be charged to her card. I told her it was a good thing she was still there. The female employee rang me up while saying she would print a receipt for the young lady. Luckily, I was paying cash lol. I left after paying for my stuff, so idk what happened after that. I always ask for a receipt, just because that’s what I was taught growing up. I also always ask for my items to be put in a bag, for the same reason. I was taught to do those things in case anyone ever accused me of stealing, so I’d have proof that I paid for whatever I have. Just another thing to be mindful of, living where I live. After seeing what happened at the convenience store last week, I think EVERYBODY should probably ask for a receipt when using a credit or debit card, just to make sure the transaction is finalized and the next person’s purchase isn’t charged to your card. I’m just putting it out there, what I saw and heard with my own eyes and ears. Asking for a receipt ensures the transaction is completed and the person behind you won’t have their purchase run on your card. Do what you will with the info. Thanks for the info - unlike the young lady I would have been understandably going crazy old lady all over theirs because I don't buy the "accident" story at all. People think I'm crazy to check every transaction on my CC statements each month and this crap is exactly why I do.

There are a number of chores I need to do but I don't want to, so I'll continue to entertain you with my musing until I feel like getting of my lazy bum. This time I want to get back to something that was said on another thread about keeping safe while out and about. The advice was that when traffic stops to leave at least one car length in front of you. Now I already do that though I can say from personal experience that if an idiot is not paying attention at 65mph that won't be enough to keep you from getting pan-caked. However, you all must live in areas with much less traffic than I do as I can't see how this keeps me safe(r). It is Clowns, to the left of me, Jokers to the right, here I am stuck in in the middle... . Am I missing something or am I right that my only advantage keeping a distance is the reduced chance of being pushed into the car in front of me?

We got our Covid boosters this morning and so far we have zero reaction, not even a sore arm. The pharmacy tech was amazing and I literally never felt the needle. We got two 10% off groceries coupons good until 12/31/22 so I'll use them for stuff that never goes on sale.
Bird flu has wiped out the US turkey population so the store had a huge display with all things Thanksgiving like stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, jarred turkey gravy, roasting pans etc and not one single piece of frozen or fresh turkey in the store. I grabbed a frozen turkey breast at Aldi the other day because that may be as close as we get this year

It's getting harder and harder to find small turkeys here.

When we first moved here, the city was responsible for our trash collection because they’d annexed this portion of the suburbs. So they had contracts with private companies to collect our trash, while city employees collected trash within the city limits. We had problems with the private contractor from the moment we moved in. They didn’t always come on the scheduled days. Late last year/early this year, things came to a head because they hadn’t picked up the garbage in our neighborhood for weeks and trash was piling up throughout the neighborhood. Some residents started talking about filing lawsuits and contacted the media. The bill for garbage pickup is part of our bill for water, gas and electricity, so we were forced to pay for it if we wanted water, gas and electricity, but we were not getting the garbage pick up services we were paying for. I think that is one of the times that living in a neighborhood like mine paid off. Historically, it’s been a neighborhood for “affluent” people, and the Neighborhood Association still has some pull with local government. So the private company got fired. Well, let them tell it with the statement they released, they no longer wanted the contract. Either way, city employees started collecting our garbage, and there have been no issues since then. Before I moved here, city employees always picked up my garbage and I NEVER had a problem. One time when the private company finally showed up, they somehow had garbage all over our front yard. Mister was home and said something to the person driving the truck, and his response was that he didn’t have time to clean up the mess that was made because he was the only one on the truck. Mister was NOT happy, but his problem was moreso with the company that was not upholding their end of the contract, than the employee that day. The hilarious part is that before they got fired/quit, they sent us notices saying that if we have so much garbage that the lids don’t close on our bins, they don’t have to empty them and we need to lease additional bins. Our garbage bins were overflowing because they picked up our trash every 2 or 3 weeks instead of weekly, like they were supposed to. We already have 2 garbage bins and of course they were both overflowing after 2 or 3 weeks. Mr. T has 6 people living in his house. He had bags of garbage in his garage and the bed of his truck. He was taking garbage to a relative’s house in the country where it could be burned, because it wasn’t being picked up regularly here.

Didn't do any good to get the medicaid stuff together. They said at the office, I need to wait till asset recovery contacts me. So I guess that will be hanging out there forever, damn, I wanted to wrap at least one thing up.
DD and I had wonderful massages, next week she is getting her massage and I'm getting a foot detox, feels so good.
It has not gotten above 67 today so I had on a fleece top, sure feels good.
Going out to pick ripe tomatoes and peppers if I have any as tomorrow night 39, no not freezing but cold.
Bought an aloe vera plant and apparently don't have a pot for it, so will have to get one. Also need to water my mums on the front step.

I didn't feel the needle for my original booster, either. I'm Moderna all the way, for various medical reasons. my original booster? the EMTs doing the shots at the drive-thru location were more concerned with my dogs in the backseat of my car than with me and my declared medical concerns. lol... I mean, I'd already done two shots at that point, and I could easily walk my ass back to the tent if something came up. or, just lean on my car horn as directed.

We had great garbage guys at our house in Texas. Because we were always working on houses we had a lot of trash and they picked it all up. They had 3 guys on the truck. Each year I gave each one $50 in a card taped to the lids for Christmas. They would always wave and were nice as can be and believe me they saved us money. So I felt like it was well worth it. They would even put my garbage cans back inside the fence for me so vehicles driving by didn't blow them in the road.
I still can't get the water leak fixed here, it's running across both our driveways and when it freezes across there this winter, what a mess that will be. It's also making the areas soft. Hubs says don't worry about it, yeah, right. Hubs thinks it's the line that goes to the old college and they are going to have to fix it. Well, it runs under the road, so could be very expensive.
And we need a new dumpster, the coons are digging through the bottom wall and pulling trash out. Hubs asked and he said they didn't have any more. We may get a new company if those holes get much bigger, we pay $75 a month for it.

Just learned that a decent size of my department workload will be lifted soon. I knew it was coming, but expected it to be drug out. There are things that need to happen before the transition, but likely done by the end of the year. I will be very happy to be done with it. What's your secret to getting this done? half kidding

So their dogs are outside dogs? Doesn't it get very hot where you live? What do they do with them when it is hot or cold? They do seem to spend more time outside than inside. He built a huge kennel for them, with a roof, and his backyard gets a lot of shade from all the trees back there. Idk what he does when it’s hot or cold. If he wasn’t taking proper care of them, it would’ve been discovered all the times the neighbors sent Animal Control to his house. Instead, their reports were always positive, until they finally questioned why they kept being sent over there. The reports were included in the emails the President of our Neighborhood Association included us on. His dogs are too valuable for him to not take care of them. He has a lot of money, time and energy invested in them. They are not just pets, they are working dogs. Just because dogs live outside doesn’t mean they aren’t taken care of. We have a couple posters here who had or want a dog that lived/will live mostly outside. Not sure where you read that I said they weren't taking care of them. I am aware that people have outside dogs. I just asked you a question. If someone has children that are afraid of dogs, I don't understand why they would have dogs living with said children. I also don't see why they thought it was a good idea to take a random dog to them. You're afraid of bugs. Would you want to live in a house with tarantulas in the yard as long as they were outside? Then if someone brought you a black widow to see then it's OK because it's small. You can say I'm exaggerating, but a GSD is a rather large dog, especially when you are a small child. See why I'm questioning it?

See why I'm questioning it?No, I don’t. When I’ve been inside their house, whatever dog that was inside at the time was in a different part of the house than the twins. They have a pretty big house, much bigger than mine, with 2 floors. There were also baby gates on several doorways, Idk if that was for the toddlers or the dog. Mr. T has always had dogs. Not only is he a fan of the breed, he is serious enough about his dogs’ pedigrees that they are also a source of income for him. From what I’ve seen, he takes precautions to keep his dogs from bothering neighbors, and he doesn’t let them run around and terrorize his toddlers. The twins don’t have to interact with the dogs, and everybody is happy, including the twins and the dogs. Again, I’m not sure why you keep trying to make a big deal out of it, when I keep explaining and trying to make it clear that Mr. T is not a horrible dog owner, or a bad parent. Yeah, I’m afraid of bugs, and as long as someone tried to show me a black widow without putting it on me, I can deal, even if I get upset about it. Mrs T did not try to force the twins to touch Boy or whatever…… when it was clear they didn’t want anything to do with him even though he was a puppy and tiny, she came back with him.

See why I'm questioning it? We had 4 dogs when ds was born, but my kids were "afraid" of dogs. Not dogs per se, but the way people allow their dogs to behave. Ds climbed up on a friends kitchen counter to get away from her puppy that he wanted to meet. But puppy was being obnoxious and ds wasn't having it. But even if my kids were afraid of my dogs rehoming would have been absolutely last possible option. We would control access (including 100% outdoors if necessary) before rehoming a pet. Outside of severe aggression, relinquishing just isn't an option for us.

For those who get massages, how much do you tip? I haven't had one in several years because they are expensive, $125/hour for the cheap chain places in strip centers, plus tip. Back in 2019, I tipped $25 but that adds up to a lot of $$$

My distance will stay as is for potential collision purposes

I Just read one of those "the Moneyist" articles and learned that I am truly missing the tipping gene many Americans seem to be born with. The question was about a dispute between a husband and wife about how much to tip the cleaning lady. he wants to stick with a minimum amount (10%-15%) and she thinks it should be about double that. And here I am thinking WHAAAAAT? I am supposed to tip the cleaning lady? A while back there was a similar debate about tipping for take-out food (don't stiff the the workers and make it at least 15%) Not going to happen but I wonder what they will come up with next. Am I that much out of touch or are we reaching the point where labor is no longer included in any sales price even if, as in the case of the cleaning lady, the "sale" is labor? Except for Christmas, I am not tipping my cleaning lady. That is the only time I tip the cleaning lady.

I felt sorry for Gus this morning because he wanted outside so bad and let him go. Shouldn't have done that. He was moving pretty slow tonight. I didn't give him pain meds in the morning before I let him out because I didn't want him doing things he shouldn't be, so it's part being out on the hard ground and part no meds. Back to solitary confinement. Probably for the rest of the week at least with maybe a couple hours out in the evenings.

I used to pack a few different 6-pks/12pks inside of a trash bag with a huge bow on top, and put the bag on top of my closed barrel the last week before Christmas. most of my neighbors did the same. thought being, they take the stash back to the office and split it all up by tastes. Yeah, that's not a thing around here at all. I've never done that either.

I'm sorry. Gus is a lucky guy to have you to manage the founder issues.

It's not about getting pancaked. It's about always giving yourself an out of someone tries something. Talking carjacking, shootings, robberies, etc.

Moderna bivalent? I didn't feel a thing, either. I asked the nurse why she's not giving it to me, and she said it was done. Didn't even feel the needle going in. this is reassuring (I hate needles). I got my booster the day after taking my dog to the vet for her annual shots. I let her ride along. She was totally cool with the guy checking me in. She was not cool with the guy holding a needle.

Just learned that a decent size of my department workload will be lifted soon. I knew it was coming, but expected it to be drug out. There are things that need to happen before the transition, but likely done by the end of the year. I will be very happy to be done with it. What's your secret to getting this done? half kidding I got a new boss this year who thought we were overstaffed compared to his last company. I had to lay out all of the responsibilities of my department and what could be done to alleviate our workload. I am one of the most prepared people when it comes to work, so I went overboard. Add in the fact that he has had time to see what I am able to accomplish with minimum help and it was a done deal. Plus it helps that he is all about contractors doing the heavy lifting, so that helped a lot.

I got my 2nd original, hours after dropping Punk off for her 2nd ACL surgery. the timing couldn't have possibly been worse lol...

A fooy detox? Is that when toxins leave your body through the soles of your feet? It's a scam. do it if it feels good, but toxins can't leave your body via your feet.
