I thought I would check in after a while. We put out posters for Dali, put it online, etc. Nothing. Had a few false alarms. Havent found him. Im heartbroken. Until 2 nights ago I was taking sleeping pills but I stopped because I dont want to become dependent on them. I'm trying to accept reality and to forgive my mom. I'm sorry to say Im full of resentment. I know it was an accident but this is huge. Yesterday a neighbor brought a kitten that someone had given him but he couldn't keep. He's ( I think it's a boy) will go to the vet tomorrow. This one will get microchipped and a collar with my phone number. I thought Dali was safe here so I kept postponing the microchip and collar. I will never be able to forget myself for that. This kitten is a sweetheart but the circumstances are terrible. Anyway, he didn't have a home and I will take care of him. I just wish I could be happy instead of in constant tears. Ill be the happiest pet owner if Dali comes back and I end up with 2 pets. But at this point I have to accept that is highly unlikely. I had Ava for 17 years, and she would occasionally get out but always came back. I wasnt prepared for this. How could this happen. It's like living a nightmare. All I can do is get up every day and take care of my daily tasks one by one, exercise, take breakfast, work, spend time with mom at the end of the day. Each little thing seems such a huge achievement in this reality I'm living now. This morning I was trying to change the language on my phone from Spanish to English to answer a coworkers message, and I accidentally ended up in a strange language. Then I couldn't go back to English or Spanish. I had something close to a panic attack. I finally calmed down enough that I was able to google some words and the language was Vietnamese. So I then googled Settings to Vietnamese, Languages to Vietnamese and I could get an operating phone again. I cried with relief when I was back to it. Everything seems so weird now. Im completely heartbroken. Eventually, I will get used to it. It will be an old wound, like the death of my cousin or my aunt Ana. Like Ava's death. An old wound that will always be there, but won't hurt so much. Don't give up hope. Ava. When my mom had to go to the hospital we gave the cat to some friends to look after, but he escaped. It broke out hearts. Four months later, he found his way home. There was tapping at our kitchen window, and it was Tigrik, bruised and battered, but it was him.

Words (though second hand) I never thought I would hear this way. DS2, DIL,and the two grands will be here for a week starting Wednesday. Right now they are in Texas with the other grandparents. So this week grandpa asked S. (DGS2 - 5yo) if he wanted to do something. S. says ok. Are you sure? S.: yes. Really sure? S.: yes. Are you positive? S.: No, I don't have Covid! Took the adults a few moments to realize what had just happened.

Ava - I'm sorry about Dali. There is still a slim hope but I'm glad you are taking the kitten. And acknowledging your feelings toward you mother. This is important. Glad everyone had a good time with Chiver! I'm jealous they got to spend time with the puppers. DH took me garage sale-ing with him yesterday. I'm not really fond of it but he was insistent I go! Turns out, he found an estate sale of a woman who was a prolific quilter. OMG, I spent so much! He laughed. He had already grabbed quite a bit of cash, knowing this would happen. The woman took excellent care of her fabric and had a stash just like I would buy. I'll spend today sorting and folding/petting THREE BOXES of good quality quilting fabric. I am a happy woman. Fabric is so expensive. I'm sure it was money well spent.
Also, if you have scraps, LMK.
The woman is also incredible. Like 92, lives a full life..still creates (she's on facebook) and she is a classically trained musician and taught at stanford (I think).
Thank you for that link! I mostly quilt by hand as it's very relaxing to me and requires little equipment. I do have very old machine and will occasionally make a machine quilt. Most of my hobby real-estate is the fabric 😄 I LOVE scraps!

I'm sorry Ava. I do hope he returns sometime in the future. Currently contemplating this big box of hay I ordered. Not sure how I am going to store it.

Well, I got another bag together for good will. You all should make this a drinking game.
And filled up our recycling. Like, it's a problem. I think I may be able to pull this off. It may be a little rough early going,

Went to the laundromat and the breakfast with BFF this morning. DC (formerly known as dd - gotta respect pronoun preferences), is at the pool with friends. They're growing up a little too fast.
I'd love to nap, but need to clean, plant some flowers, work with the dog. Ugh. May pick up my home depot order and then stop at the thrift store for more metal bowls for nosework for devil dog.

I got to hot. Was in the garage cleaning litter boxes. Borax does a great job, gets rid of the odor. Hubs emptied them for me and took out the trash. He also put a new seat on our little mower we use all the time, it had foam breaking off of it.
The house is vacced, all the kitty stuff cleaned, eating, drinking bowls, clean litter. I also washed all the trash cans. They need it periodically. Now out to vac the garage out, then to the basement to vac. Hope to have some time left to pick a few veggies. No major work out there today.
Hubs cleaned the gutters out and was HOT! The temp is only 79 but humidity is 84%! I opened the doors for a bit till I looked to see how high it was after the house felt like a spa. Miserable out there.
Also vacced the screened in porch, now it looks nice and clean again. Of course, kitties helped.
I killed a HUGE hornet, thought it was one of the murder hornets but looked up a picture. Turned out it's something called a cicada killer, but never seen one of those before either.
I had to stop for about 20 minutes, Tigger decided it was time for him to lay on my lap and be petted. So of course, I had to indulge him. After about 10 or 15 minutes I think they get to warm and move on. They will do it again later. Ava, my heart aches for you. I love cats so, would be the same as you. Don't give up hope, so many find their way home again. Hope that happens for you too.
Ok, back to work for a bit. Going to go to the garden and just get some veggies for dinner. Too hot to do anything else out there.

I didn't know you were to wait until a frost to pull turnips. Hubs said he heard that too, I will do that and see. I was looking over DD's blood work. She again had her sodium level only 1 point above too low. It says that can cause headaches and weakness. Both she and I have had this issue before of sodium too low. Hopefully, they address that when we go in for an appointment. And her free thyroxine is to high. Maybe they can address these issues and help her, I don't know. Didn't realize how much of an issue low sodium could be. Don't thinking upping salt in food would help. Sounds like someone with gut issues like her just may not absorb enough. Anyway I will ask. I have a friend who struggles with low sodium. Seems she is always sucking down Gatorade and other sports drinks to help. She has passed out before.

Ava - So sorry to hear Dali has not come home yet, I really thought he would have just shown up by now, but there is still hope. My barn cat dissappears for a month or more at a time and just when I'm about to stop putting food out thinking she's gone for good this time, she shows up again. I wonder if he wasn't just hanging out by someone else's house and they brought him in? Anyhow, glad you agreed to taking in the other kitten.

Both sodium and potassium play critical roles in our health, including heart function. So many of our modern meds for heart issues and high blood pressure can also reduce sodium levels.

This helps make sense of what I’ve been hearing at work about a supervisor I like. First I heard yesterday that she’d had a heart attack and was in a coma. Then this morning, I heard that her potassium was too low, as if that explained the coma. Whatever happened, at least the coma part seems to be true. She is only a couple years older than me. Nobody seems to know what the prognosis is. Her youngest daughter is an adult, but she has special needs, and I’m not sure she can live independently. UGH!

I'm going to have to call the vet on Monday. Sushi is an old man and is starting to limp. I want to know if it's safe to give him a whole baby aspirin. He's over 20 pounds, so it should be OK if I don't do it every day.
The proper dose of aspirin for a cat is 10mg/kg once every 72 hours

Oh, Pink, I'm so sorry to hear you have yet another coworker who is struggling. For instance, one of the oldest and most effective methods of controlling high BP is with diuretics. But diuretics (and other meds) can definitely make you pee out good stuff like sodium and potassium. When possible, it's almost always better to replace diminished nutrients by natural means vs a pill supplement, so DH and I eat bananas and avocados to help with the potassium issue. I hope your lady makes it, especially with her daughter's situation

Please do not give Sushi a whole baby aspirin. When I have had to give some to any of my crew, vet always said NO more than 1/4 of a tablet every other day. Weight on these ranged between 13-16 lbs. I wouldn't chance more than 1/2 tablet divided out some (1/4 than another 1/4 a few hours later).

When I got home from work, after I changed clothes I sat down in the den because the movie Mister was watching caught my interest. About 30 minutes later, YD called him and told him she had to pay $1k to the college she’s going to, and the deadline was today. I didn’t ask for details. Mister’s whole vibe changed because he was irritated, so I escaped to the deck. I guess I missed the memo where asking for $1k was as insignificant as asking for $10. My children would probably be assed out if they asked me for $1k on a Sunday. In my Kevin Hart voice…. “see the way my checking and savings accounts are set up, it takes 3 days to move money to my checking account”. I have no idea how much Mister keeps in his accounts, but if nothing else, he could put it on a cc and just pay the cc off. I’m sure he got irritated just because of the principle of the matter, waiting until the last minute to say something.

Yes, both she and I have been in the ER before to get a whole bag of liquid intravenously for low potassium. Right now we are both ok on that. But it has been a problem for us before.
I got my to do list done, can't believe it. Vacced the garage, vacced the basement, it wasn't bad at all. And I picked enough tomatoes, cukes, and bell peppers for us to eat on. I may have enough green beans to cook but not sure. The rain is making the weeds grow like crazy. I need to get out there and weed eat or pull them to save what I want. But it's 80 out and 81% humidity. Can't handle that for very long.
And the barometer is going down so the old foot is killing me. I drove the short distance from the house to the garden it was hurting so bad. Wasn't going to try to carry a bucket of veggies on it.
When I sat down, here came Smokey to snuggle. So he is on the recliner between my legs with the computer sitting partly on him. He is all sprawled out living his best life I guess.
I'm ready for a bath and to fix my hair.
Thinking of grilling hamburgers tonight. May fix some sliced cukes with sliced onions in vinegar with a bit of water and sugar. Having some sliced tomatoes and lettuce too. I wish I had made mac salad today, didn't think about it. DD loves it, but it wouldn't get cold enough now, might make some anyway for tomorrow night. Hubs loves fried potatoes, so may just cook those. DD likes them also.

Ava, I am so sad to hear of Dali missing, and hoping that he will make his way back to you. Thank you for taking in the other kitten, who could really use a loving home.
We had a quiet weekend, some workouts and lazing around. We leave for Cairns on Thursday, so excited about that! I am looking forward to the warm weather as it is still winter here.
I am sure my swim suit will fit, but I can’t vouch if it will look good! I probably should try it on, I don’t want to be tugging on bits and pieces while I’m trying to snorkel and have fun.

I hope your lady makes it, especially with her daughter's situation I have another coworker that takes medicine for high blood pressure and people talk bad about her because she runs to the restroom a lot during the day. Sometimes, almost literally running. Many of my coworkers aren’t very nice. I’m pretty sure she’d prefer to not have that kind of situation, but instead of trying to imagine what that must be like for her, and having a little compassion, let’s just talk bad about her. Thank you. I really hope she makes it too. She doesn’t work on my shift, but I’ve known her for years. She has been my supervisor before though, years ago. She’s one of the few supervisors at my job that’s not an asshole, she’s a really nice person.

I was really saddened reading your post Ava and am very sorry the news wasn't better. Been thinking about you and Dali and was hoping the next update I read would have been a good one.
As so many others have said, don't give up all hope in finding him. Stranger things have happened all the time.
Glad there is a kitten in your life, even though we all know it is not quite the same. What you are going through right now, IMHO, is even harder than losing a fur baby to illness/death. The not knowing what happened to him will drive you nuts, so try and be kinder to yourself and what you're thinking about now.
As for the new addition, if you are intent on having him/her wear a collar at all times, you "might" want to consider getting the "breakaway" kind. Cats have a notorious reputation of getting into anything and everything, and this would prevent him/her getting caught on something for any length of time. Just a thought.

Wondering if the ozempic is causing that. We urinate a lot with it and she doesn't drink a lot of fluids. I have a case of Gatorade in the garage, she likes it too. Going to see if they will halve her dose like they have me. Her weight is on the low side of normal and they said before she didn't need to lose more, so likely will.

I got the breakaway collars and they were off all the time. Of course they are outdoors, so I would at least give it a try.

I had a friend who died 7 times because of one low potassium event. He was mentally like dementia afterward. Usually low potassium will cause cramps as a warning. Low magnesium can cause fainting.
