Oh crap now I am wondering if I had pertussis a couple months ago. Every time I coughed I coughed so hard I peed my pants. Hard to tell because I also had two kids and I am approaching peri-menopause. My vaccine is up to date but that doesn't mean I can't ever get it. Everyone was testing negative for COVID and the flu. I would think not since if left untreated it can have some serious effects, including death. The cough leaves you drooling, gasping for air, and a broken rib if you're really unlucky. Nope didn't have that thank God. Just old fashioned being a woman peeing her pants when she coughs then. I hope to never experience that again.

We got 2025 premium notices for our LTC policies, happy we are only up $200/month for both policies.

The next printer I'm going to get will be a laser. I am fed up with ink jet printers and cartridges that cost as much as the printer that dry up because we frequently go stretches of weeks with no printing. DS wants a printer for his apartment as well and not sure if I'm just going to send him our desk jet and get myself new or get us both lasers and throw the current one in the garbage. My printer is a laser jet and is wireless. I've never had a problem with it computer and printer not talking. Black and white only. I have had the printer about 5 years. I don't use it often. Maybe 15 pages a month at most. It has over a half a tank of ink left and it's not going to dry out. I was so tired of ink jets drying out and printers refusing to work if you didn't buy brand name ink, etc. Very happy with my HP Never Stop laser printer. For no more color photos, etc., I print, I don't need to pay for that.

I'm a Democratic committee person, so I still vote at my polling place since I'm outside most of the day anyway. There are three polling wards for a town of 5,000 so there's never much of a wait. I'm the helpful person with info on case you have questions on candidates or voting, and will report any shenanigans to the county if they happen (they usually don't where I live).
As far as judicial retention elections, we usually say if there's no ethical complaints about someone and they're doing their job then vote yes. But January 6 and all the post-2020 election BS changed that polite agreement between the two parties for me. So now I keep a "don't vote for these people" list handy for when anyone asks about retentions.

Ugh every time I think I squash the trad wife videos on Facebook they pop right back up. If I am clicking on it to block it that means I DON'T want to see it not give me more!
Nothing against that being your thing but
#1 Let's not pretend you aren't working by making content and being an influencer. You aren't the single income home you are pretending to be.
#2 It ignores the fact that through most of history having a one family income was a HUGE privilege. For most of history in lower income families everyone worked including the kids until there were child labor laws put into place. You didn't discover some magical secret that the rest of us working women are choosing to ignore because we want to pretend we are equal to men.
#3 I invite you to travel back to 1950 when you couldn't divorce, have a bank account or any say legally so were stuck at home while your husband drank his paycheck away. You are presenting a fantasy of the 1950s not reality for even a lot of middle class white women. We haven't even covered lower income or minority women's lives in the 1950s.
That's what disgusts me about those videos. Then when you toss in that the trad wife fad has attached itself to some of the more sinister attitudes permeating society and being proudly proclaimed by a certain party it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.
And thank you for attending my TED talk today.

I decided on the judges that if they were appointed by the last two governors, they should not be retained. All of the ones up for retention this year were appointed in that time frame.

One day when we met up to go to school, she was crying. She said her dad had kicked her mom's belly and her mom was bleeding. She came to school that day but she was never in school again.

Well it's official dad and I are off everything. When we log onto her bank account we can no longer see her information. Hopefully now grandma's mail will stop coming to my house I am tired of filing stuff. I did get the letter she was approved for Medicaid renewal. That was a relief and now I can finally let go. As much as it all pisses me off she is still my grandma and I am going to do right by her. That was a metric butt ton of work I put into getting her on it too! While I wouldn't have been able to fix it if they screwed it up there are still ways as next of kin I could have and would have made their lives miserable until it was fixed. It's one thing for me to be tossed aside like yesterday's garbage. It would have been another for them to completely undo my work. And at least we didn't get booted off until I gave them a headache stopping that $6k payment. Looks like someone got involved and slapped their hands because the deposit was corrected to the amount that was approved by Medicaid. Who knows how long it would have taken to get fixed or if it would have even been caught if we hadn't paid attention. I like to think of it as one last "Fuck you" from us to them. I know I harp on it but some things really should not be for profit and should be WAY more regulated than they are. I can't sneeze wrong without a pack of DHS agents coming down on me but the state appointed guardian can fuck up to the tune of $6k and still be allowed to be in charge of someone? Okey dokey. Not to mention all the horror stories that come out about care. The one GU was in did finally get fined for him failing. Granted he had passed by the time they ruled but it is still a black mark against them which is something. I have come to the conclusion nursing homes do not want you to be involved. They do want you to come see the patients so they can brag about being family oriented but otherwise sit down and shut up. I think part of the reason the dislike for us was so intense is because we did take the time to educate ourselves and we were not scared to leverage it. Most people either do not know, do not care or are too scared to speak up. They want you involved but not like that! Only be involved when it works to THEIR advantage. I have become jaded about several things regarding healthcare in this nation, and I believe that the bolded does not just apply to nursing homes. I had an issue with a behavioral hospital when my son was 12yo. I very strongly disagreed with what they were doing, and I refused to sign any of the papers they kept shoving in my face. My Mom and Aunt had run to meet me, and I was mostly quiet and letting my Mom talk for me. They separated me from my Mom, to try to convince me to sign. And they quickly decided they’d rather deal with my Mom. One of the things I said was “y’all keep talking about how good my insurance is, so on top of everything else, I believe this is really about money and not at all about what is best for my son. So I’M NOT SIGNING SHIT.” One of the things I was so upset about was that they wouldn’t even let me see my son and explain to him what was happening, that I had no control over. I didn’t want him to think I’d just abandoned him and left him there. Anyway, without making the story even longer, almost a week later of me fighting with them, they called and said he could come home that day. It turned out that that morning, they’d received notice that my insurance company had declined to pay, so all of a sudden, my son could come home. They sent me a bill for over $12k, and filed 3 appeals with my insurance company to try to get them to pay. After the 3rd appeal, I got a letter from my insurance company stating that their psychiatrist said that what the hospital did was not warranted, that was the last appeal the hospital could file, and my insurance still would not pay. It also said that unless I’d signed something taking financial responsibility, per their contract with the hospital (I did not sign ANYTHING), I did not have to pay either. I almost cried happy tears when I read that letter.

I went through hell with the bookkeeper at the nursing home. The lady in the next room kept looking at me and would smile sometimes like in sympathy. But I didn't give up. Before it was done, she was gone and they wrote off the $5k she was trying to get out of me I kind of wonder if she was dipping her fingers in the till. More than likely she was just incompetent. When I went in the last time with this crap the other lady helped. She didn't say why the lady was gone, just that she had left and sounded like it was not her idea. So I think she was having more problems than me. I was also talking to the people at the state. I had some experience from mom's time in a nursing home. After that other than our drug pickup issues things started going ok. But yes, it was hell for months.
I'm thinking about my son and worrying. He said if a certain individual demanded a loyalty oath he was done. I will erase this statement soon. But that is how strongly he feels. He said he would likely lose his house. He has served his country since he was about 22.
Hubs has a lot of the ceiling done in here and I have the fireplace part and 2 windows, its slow going.

Also, when my Grandmother had a heart attack a few days before she died. She was airlifted from the hospital the ambulance took her to, to their sister hospital that is the only hospital that does some kind of procedure to try to bring back heart attack patients. They started the procedure as soon as my Grandmother got there.
My Mom, my Aunt, me and one of my cousins had raced from the first hospital to the other as soon as the helicopter took off, and were waiting together for someone to come talk to us. When they came, my Mom and Aunt asked exactly what they were doing with my Grandmother. The procedure is to basically freeze the patient and gradually warm them back up IIRC. My Mom and Aunt asked what my Grandmother’s quality of life was likely to be like if the procedure worked. They said it was entirely possible that she would be a “vegetable”. She was 85yo and already had dementia.
So my Mom and Aunt said they knew my Grandmother wouldn’t have wanted them to do all the stuff they were doing and told them to stop it.
I had a friend that worked on the same floor my Grandmother was on, and that evening I called her and asked her to please talk to me as a friend, and not a professional. I asked her if I was correct in thinking that the procedure was just to buy some time, they couldn’t actually “fix” her heart, and this was going to keep happening, even if they brought her back that time. My friend said I was correct.
She also told me that there was a lot of discussion because the Doctors did not like that my Mom and Aunt said that my Grandmother wouldn’t have wanted what they were doing and told them to stop. My friend said she told them “we say we want families to be involved in our patients’ care, and this is a family agreeing about what the patient would want if she could speak for herself”.
Now that I have become even more jaded, I wonder how much of it was a chance to do what they were so proud of being the only hospital in the area that could do it, which I am also certain costs a lot of money, even if it’s an insurance company that has to pay for it, vs what was really best for an 85yo woman in my Grandmother’s condition/situation, who they admitted would likely have an even worse quality of life (ie be “a vegetable), if she even survived the procedure.
The only “good” thing is that my Grandmother actually woke up the next morning for a few hours, and was enough of herself to lick her tongue out at me when she saw me. The Doctors said that it was completely unexpected and somethin akin to a miracle that she “woke up” that morning”. I wanted to cry the whole time I sat beside her, loving on her, while she kept telling me she didn’t feel good and asking God to have mercy on her. But I still wouldn’t trade those hours with her for anything, as much as it broke my heart to see her in so much pain, because if not for that morning, my last image of her would’ve been the horrible way she looked when I saw her while they were “freezing” her. Maybe that is selfish of me, since maybe while she was “out”, she wasn’t feeling the pain she did when she woke up. When she went back to sleep that day, she never woke up again. One or a few of us continued to stay at the hospital with her 24/7, until she died a few days later.

In other healthcare news, when I got to my Dr appointment this morning they couldn’t find me on the schedule. Another screen showed that I did in fact have an appointment, so the person checking me in had to call somebody to see what was going on. They said that when they called me to confirm my appointment for today, I canceled it and I could reschedule and see my Doctor next Friday. I pulled my phone out and looked at my call log to confirm what I already knew, they hadn’t called me PERIOD, so I didn’t know WTF they were talking about. I got upset and said “NO! Nobody called me and I absolutely I did NOT cancel my appointment. I called Monday and got this appointment for today because I am SICK. I can’t wait until next Friday for treatment when I feel so bad AND legit have an appointment today”. He just told me again that I could reschedule for next Friday.
That made me even more upset. I told him I understand this isn’t your fault, but this is crazy. I did NOT cancel my appointment. But in addition to the reason I made the appointment in the first place, because I feel horrible, I also have to take something to my job because I am here right now for a Doctor appointment, instead of at work where I’m supposed to be right now. I was upset, but I at least managed to not cuss lol.
So then he said he could try to get me in with another provider, tapped on his keyboard, and said he could give me an appointment with someone else in 30 minutes. I said please do. After he said that up, he apologized for what happened, and I apologized for being rude to him after I got upset. He said “you’re fine, I understand and you weren’t rude”.
Less than 5 minutes after I sat back down in the waiting room, I got called to the back. I really like the nurse that did all the weighing and blood pressure stuff, and I actually liked the NP that saw me. They both had “people skills” and personality, and listened, unlike my PCP. But I didn’t really like that he he said that there wasn’t really a need to test me for anything, since there’s so much stuff going around right now, and unless I have some complications, the treatments are basically the same. So he had the nurse give me a sinus cocktail shot and sent me on my way with instructions to keep using the nasal sprays and allergy meds.
I have to go to work tomorrow no matter how I feel, since I am still trying to make up for how my attendance has been so bad. I guess I’ll wear a mask again, like I did when I was taking antibiotics, but still coughing, a couple weeks ago, because I’m not sure whether I’m contagious or not right now, since this doesn’t really feel like my “normal” sinus bullshit.
The appointment issue was really crazy to me, but I guess by now I should just accept that crazy shit is bound to happen in my life. Even though I got all bent out of shape in that moment, I calmed down later, and got my nerves together. I am grateful that I didn’t stay stressed and upset, because I already know what comes next when that happens.

We got back from our brief trip to NWPA yesterday afternoon. It was a soul satisfying autumn eye candy drive. The maples are really popping. Maples are showing very nicely here as well, but much more muted than the sugar maples further north. Most of our landscaping is done. It will look so much better once the growing season starts again. I am hoping this link works so y’all can see some before and after. Cheesy’s landscaping before and after.

Also, even though I was still really upset when they called me to the back, my blood pressure was 120something over 74, which the nurse said was good. I was really expecting it to be high again, but of course I’m glad that it wasn’t.
But that adds to my confusion about what is really going on with my blood pressure. I want to address it if really is a problem, but it’s so all over place and never consistent, even in the same Doctor visits if they take it again before I live. When they do that, it is always lower, but sometimes still higher than “normal”. Other times it is normal “enough” when it’s first taken, that nobody comments on it. Idk what to do with that information and I really don’t want to deal with my PCP more than I absolutely have to. Is there a such thing as a specialist I can work with to try to figure out what’s really going on with my blood pressure?
Speaking of my PCP, I made a “get to know each other ” appointment months ago with a new potential PCP. It was supposed to be next week, but I called Monday about rescheduling it, because I start working my side gig next week, and I’ve had so much going on, that I really didn’t want to have to take off work for that appointment next week, in the beginning of being off work several days to work my side gig, in addition to just having been off work 4 days to go to the seminar in SA for my side gig. Technically, the days I work my side gig instead of my real job, can’t be held against me, because I am working for my union. But I feel like it’s just not a good look for me to also be taking off work for other stuff right now if I don’t absolutely have to, given how my attendance got so bad when I started having issues with my stomach, and how I have to be honest and admit that my bosses have shown me a LOT of grace, instead of trying to fire me, and I truly do appreciate that even though I do still try to avoid talking to them about anything, even work, and I go out of my way to avoid them even seeing me if I see them first. But that’s just because I’m so embarrassed and prefer to try to be “out of sight, out of mind” and pretend I am invisible at work lol.
Anyway, the “meet and greet” appointment with the new potential PCP has been rescheduled for mid December. I will be done with my side gig by then.

Another window and the patio doors and frame plus fireplace area done. That stuff is time consuming. 2 more frames to do in here for me and the ledges at the ceiling for the opening between kitchen and living room. I have to caulk some places tomorrow where there are some small cracks and where screws came out of the blinds around the windows, then touch up those spots. It looks cleaner all the time.
We quit for today, he and I only make it about 3 to 4 hours a day anymore but we still keep moving forward. Grandson and Dil are coming over this afternoon. We both need to get a bath.
By the way, Harris county in Houston is primarily democrat. You get in the outlying areas and you will see voter suppression, the rural areas are red, so it changes quickly.

By then, it was merely a matter of treating the symptoms. The cough never left me drooling and it was only a matter of about 2 days where I felt like I was getting sick (and I was assuming a cold) and the strange cough showed up. By the time the cough happened, I felt well. Weird disease.

We wanted to get the downspout an attractive place to get water further from the house and I really hate the plastic corrugated tubes. I got the bright idea for down the road, making that a stream water feature to pour into a pool at the lower end. I asked the landscaper if that was a feasible idea. He agreed that it should be doable. He doesn’t do that kind of work but he has referrals for people who do. Our next project though is the addition at the back of the house, and that comes first.

We have an ink jet printer that we get frustrated with because we don’t use it often enough to keep the ink from drying out and the cartridges are expensive. After reading here some time ago, I asked Mister about just getting a laser printer. He said they cost a lot. I said I know they use to be expensive but do they cost a lot now? We never decided what to do, but it is an issue for me now, because I do need a printer at home when I’m working my side gig. Well, I can get around it if I have to, but it definitely makes things easier. Which I didn’t even think about until 2 days ago. And of course the ink is dried up in the printer we have.

They did used to cost a lot. I paid about $200 for it. Printer ink for the ink jet refills was almost that much and they dried out because I don't use it very much.
Mine is also a scanner. I use it more for scanning than for printing.

I ended up not actually needing Mrs. T’s help with what I’d asked her about. I just got back home from walking over to tell her that, and tell her how much I appreciated her even being willing to assist me in the first place.
It was a short, but very heartwarming interaction that didn’t include any details, but included a couple of hugs, one from me to her when I was telling her how much I appreciate her, and one from her to me when we were parting ways and she was telling me again that she has my back, for real. We’ve both said the same thing about having each other’s back, since we really started getting to know each other, and I’ve always really meant it, and I’ve always believed she really meant it too. We’ve both done little things and offered other things that we thought might be helpful to the other, that showed that it’s not just talk. But her saying it again today, while hugging me, touched me more than ever.

I really hate toilet shopping (super flush, mega flush) but new toilets in my house make me happy. Yeah. I finally got a new toilet after DH died. We broke the handle at some point and tape was holding it on just fine then boom! One day it didn't want to stay on anymore. Thankfully I have a very handy BIL and he took me shopping, brought it home and put it in.

I have a HP black and white laser jet printer for work. I got it when I was doing a bunch of contract stuff that was supposed to be confidential. I never got it set up before covid. Earlier this year we had months long problems with our in office big printers. My boss told me to take the printer home and set it up since I'm at home 4 days a week. I just keep forgetting it's not wireless. Even in our IT catalog it's only $500 and we don't exactly get the best deals.
My personal printer is a HP ink jet one. The wireless does work. We've had it for probably 9 years. DH has been in this house 10 years and it's the one he went out and bought when he realized he needed one.
I have my eye on an Epson sublimation one but that's a whole other rabbit hole.

I would think not since if left untreated it can have some serious effects, including death. The cough leaves you drooling, gasping for air, and a broken rib if you're really unlucky. I was never treated for it. I really wasn’t sick and thought it was a cold. It wasn’t until the weird cough where I couldn’t catch my breath where I wound up at the doctors and was diagnosed. By then, it was merely a matter of treating the symptoms. The cough never left me drooling and it was only a matter of about 2 days where I felt like I was getting sick (and I was assuming a cold) and the strange cough showed up. By the time the cough happened, I felt well. Weird disease. Yeah. I had general cold symptoms that went away and then the cough started a few days later. The cough was very cyclical, practically every hour on the hour. I'd feel totally fine and then, boom, like clockwork the cough. It took me a week of thinking it was just bronchitis before I went to the doctor and he diagnosed me from the next room. I got a z-pack for the bacterial infection so I could see my family at Christmas without transmitting anything but the cough stuck for another month. Whooping cough is how I discovered Ricola are the best cough drops in the world. They're so soothing for your poor destroyed throat.

Cheesy’s landscaping before and after.Oh my goodness, I love it when you and other posters share pictures of your homes. Especially when there are before and after pictures, but I also enjoy just seeing the “after” pictures, and even the “as is” pictures lol. I look at pictures all the time on the Internet, but it’s something different when someone I “know” shares pictures of what they are doing with their homes, inside and out. I know that might sound creepy, but I promise it’s just because I am just curious and looking for ideas to help me figure out what I want in my own home, wherever that might be. So much so, that there are some houses locally, and even in my neighborhood, that I wish it wouldn’t be weird if I asked the people that live there if I could see their backyard and the inside of their house. But I know that would really come across very weird, even though I’m just curious and have no bad intentions, so I would never do something like that lol. Anyway, I am not good with appropriate terminology, but I am guessing that what you did under that one downspout, is what they call a rockbed River or something that like, when you use rocks to guide rainwater where you want it to go, and use rocks to make it aesthetically pleasing. Even if I don’t know the correct term for it, I like what you did! I hope you share more pictures when the growing season starts. Please, and thank you.

Your new landscaping is beautiful - I love all the stone you used. It looks fantastic!

The only thing I did not like on the ballot up here. It was all Dem then Repub until attorney general and all of a sudden it reversed the order there. I wonder how many people not paying attention voted for the repub thinking they were a dem. Not kosher in my book.

Pretty much the only issues I have had w HPs are the typical nuisance problems of not picking up paper or whatever. I can't help wondering if clogged or worn print heads cause problems with the ink well printers.
I have an earlier version of the HPM110w which is about $125. One of the best things about it is there is no need to periodically replace the drum. I use an inkjet for color printing and decided a long time ago not to quibble with myself about the $200 or so I spend on paper & ink.
