Morning all. Going to be a long week at work. My boss is on a well-deserved vacation. Found out this morning that the new person we hired is leaving our department effective today, so my workload just went back up. Oh well. Did not sleep well. Bring on the coffee. (Was so tired this morning I started cooking breakfast before I started the coffee.) Ugh. Why is hiring so hard?

Hopefully I'll be getting the Tdap on Wednesday at my physical. I'm going to be annoyed if they don't have it. I'm definitely due. And I'm not here for getting sick from preventable crap. DH found a job to apply for. I don't know why the federal government has to overcomplicate the resume and hiring process. 1) right there with you on preventing preventable diseases 2) again, why is hiring so hard?

Interesting...why is your PCP against it? He only recommends TDAP and RSV for those having close, regular contact with children such as grandparents, teachers and daycare workers. It’s a matter of exposure I guess Oh, well that’s me! I don’t think I realized it was for those populations as opposed to everyone. There was a pertussis outbreak in a different part of the state recently.

So our county was officially declared a disaster due to the flooding. My house is a wreck and all the flood remediation companies are booked, of course. Maybe more will come into town. Anyway, we spent the last two days removing mud from inside. I finally slept well last night, but woke up this morning to find one of the pets peed in the bed. They've all been wigged out since the flood, so I'm not going to be upset. This is overwhelming. Oh no! I missed that this happened to you. Ugh!

There is the TdaP and then there is another one that is just Tetanus pertiussis I believe. You don't need TdaP if you had your childhood vaccinations unless you are a boomer and then you might because depending on when you were born you didn't get the third shot. Very early Gen Xers might need one too. You need Tetanus and pertussis every 10 years. Which reminds me I need a booster because the last one I got was when Abby was born. I couldn't remember when I had the last one and it was free as part of post natal care so why not? I had to have an updated one on file to be able to work in the animal facility. I also had to have my Hep A and B on record. I only had two of those so I end up having to do a titer every time. Still have antibodies. Same with chicken pox. Man I went round and round with that EH nurse about the vaccine. I got chicken pox naturally when I was 9. The chicken pox vaccine came out in 1995. I already had naturally immunity at that point. No they were not going to just give me the shot anyhow I already had natural immunity to it!
I kept telling her I was born in 1983 no it was not "required" for me to go to school because it didn't exist! Finally an older nurse told her to do a dang titer. Bob runs into the same problem because he was two when I gave it to him. 3 years too early for the vaccine. I had this argument when I was starting my practicum for my PhD. No chicken pox vaccine, no practicum. Ironically enough, I had just had an argument with my insurance company about paying for the shingles vaccine. I had 2 friends, very close to my age just come down with shingles and THAT was my concern, not chicken pox. My insurance company balked at paying for shingles, so I finally agreed to have the chicken pox vaccine. In my brain, I thought it might have given me a bit of protection from shingles until I finally aged into that vaccine (and that sucker at the time was $350!). I had a titer too, plus a scar in the middle of my forehead. What they only accepted was medical records……which would have been 50 years old! I turned in a post-it note on which I’d written “I’m 40 years older old. I had all of my childhood vaccinations.” for my doctoral program enrollment. The registrar’s office did not accept that. 🙄

To anyone who might see a headline about a man in his 70's found in Houston today with his head bashed in, DH is 85 does he look younger? Well, without the dent in his head, probably.

I'm tired. I had weird dreams last night about a friend of mine who died several years ago. I never found out the cause (not that is my business) which has always bothered me. We were something more than friends for a brief while and then when I started dating DH we weren't in contact as much. My interpretation of it is #1 I have been thinking about death a lot because now that I am done with grandma there are other things demanding my attention and #2 Because I am a control freak I am always trying to find reasons for things happening. My brain made up the dumbest reason for why he died. I even commented in the dream to the person who told me that that is the dumbest reason I've ever heard. I think my brain was trying to tell me "There is no logic or reason to death. . .it just happens". Maybe I should quit my job and hit the New Age circuit being a dream interpreter. I always wonder how much those people make exactly because some of them charge up to $75 for a half hour.

Went to the vote drop box and its moved, but we have another place close to home, so will go there this afternoon and drop our ballots. Hubs got his drivers license last week and his registered ballot came yesterday, wow! they make it easy here. Welcome to the PNW, where we like things such as voting and renewing car registrations to be easy.

Since I clearly graduated HS that meant I had them all. Employee Health was not amused with me. Fortunately my mom had a vaccination card for me in their lock box that had the doctor's signature on it. The only one not recorded was my third MMR. They almost didn't accept that either I kept having to escalate.

the only time I have ever waited that long was 2020 during COVID, and that was bc everything was so spaced out that it limited how many people could vote at any given time. but, for some areas (especially in areas the GOP has tried to gerrymander) that's a cakewalk. GA actually had a law on the books that made it illegal to provide food and drinks to people waiting in line to vote. Last I knew, there was a movement to overturn he law, but idk where it stands now. Anyway, all that to say that long lines happen, more than people are aware of. esp if we don't have that where we live. We can bring our own water and food here, but no one can give us water or food. The electing of judges all the way from the State Supreme Court down to the Justices of the Peace in a HUGE county makes for a very long ballot every four years. It's been very helpful here that we can now vote anywhere in the county, not just in the area closest to our home, so if there's a polling center near your office or next to the grocery store, you can use that too. It doesn't matter so much to us, but it's a real help for those who are still working or in school. I’ve voted every time since age 18, and I’ve never ever had to go anywhere to vote. Mail-in ballots are the bomb!

I saw where they released the 2025 tax brackets and standard deduction amounts today which I hope will help with next year's Fed tax (Texas doesn't have state income tax) COLA has also been released. 2.5% I'm guessing after my Part B premiums go up by whatever amounts for Medicare, my net Social Security stays the same as the net can not be reduced. So the lowest I will receive is $111. The big difference for me when I claimed it was that my Part B premiums are paid out of my gross SS, so I am no longer billed for it. I never see this money so I don't notice I paid it. I don't want to get political but in today's world I think it should be all mail in voting. The technology exists to do it safely. Several states have proven that. I respectfully submit that Any discussion about the act and process of voting is about policy Not about political parties. Those really are completely different discourses.

I had a sign made for the front window of the house. It says in case of fire a disabled person and, her name, lives here along with 2 kitties. Also dad and mom lives here too. I feel like that is important. We live in a fairly heavily wooded area and could have a forest fire. We did not get much painted, arches, front entry, display area over fire place. Tomorrow I'm doing white sections and windows. We were going to today but got late. I need to do some paperwork tonight and organize more stuff. Have not shown either house for some time. Within 10 minutes 2 calls from both realtors. Someone very interested in one up here, wanted to talk with park manager and they have seen it. Showing our house in Indiana Friday I believe. Crossing all my fingers at least one sells, will take a load off us having to maintain them. I really want to sell the one up here and get rid of that $730 a month lot rent, YES! I completely understand and agree with having that sign. I do want you to have at least little peace of mind knowing that you live in a rain forest. Yes, we have a lot of trees, and in these late summer/early fall months we have several consecutive days with out precipitation. However, where you live rarely if ever gets wildfires.

DS has been doing absentee voting by mail the past few years and I'm thinking of doing it after this election just because I thought it was so nice that he was able to sit there with his laptop researching candidates while filling it out. I always find myself in the polling booth facing names I'd never heard of before that day and just guessing or defaulting to the incumbent.

And now Finn is up for her crazy early morning start to the day (Lord don't let me be an extreme early riser retiree lol) so that's my cue to sleep two more hours so I can wake up to her beautiful post and pic. Morning FINN! This happens to me at least once per week. I wake up in the middle of the night and check in here. I’ll see Finn’s good morning post and say to myself “oh, I have Three more hours to sleep!” 😂

When you have the disease, there seems to be a disconnect between being immune from having the disease and understanding you do not need to be vaccinated. They can run a titer for antibody, but I’d rather have someone stick a needle in my arm rather than try to find a vein!

Something blew in last night. Once again, I woke up with itchy eyes and sneezing my head off. I’m now stuffed up.
At my last appt, the doc wrote me a prescription for Singulair. I did take it last night, but Benedryl still works better.

Sending hugs to all that need them.
Thanks for the CLR suggestion - we have hard water and I was just working this weekend on that gray line around the toilet rim and bleach wasn't doing the trick. I'll pick some up next time I'm at the store!
My kids wanted lasagna for dinner last night and frankly, I don't enjoy making it (my noodles are always hard on the ends). So, I bought a pre-made Rana one, and it was quite good! We like their tortellini, so I figured I'd give it a try. It was $15, but it fed 4 of us, and I would have spent that much in ingredients anyway (and probably thrown out any leftovers).

MN has a "what's on my ballot" website where you can put in your address and it will give you your local ballot with hyperlinks to a lot of the candidates info pages with their viewpoints. I probably should write down all the ones I choose after reading these because I don't always remember names when in the booth.

In addition, our county dispatch has on file that there is a deaf resident at our property.

It’s great for organic stains but not so much metal deposits-oxidize rust, for example, and you get more rust CLR looks like it’s mostly water soluble poly-acids, which form water soluble complexes with deposited metals that then wash away. The other thing you can do is hit stuff with hella concentrated acid or base (e.g aqua regia, base bath) which basically dissolves off the top layer of glassware or whatever you’re cleaning. Not recommended outside a lab setting

Maryland mails the ballot out and you can take it with you to vote. I've started doing that. You have to look the candidates up but then you can just mark it up and take it to vote. Early voting begins tomorrow. I think we'll go over the weekend. Now if only the ads would go away once we vote.

Dh bought their chicken Alfredo lasagna recently which was good and I love easy dinners that are more substantialthan pizza. . I did a crockpot lasagna this summer that turned out well without the crispy edges which I've had issues with too.

I have a first-world, very shallow problem this morning. I was supposed to have my roots done yesterday after work. My stylist got sick and had to cancel. Not only are my grey roots ridiculous, my hair washing schedule is now off.
Woe is me!

I don’t like voting without enough info to make an informed decision and I don’t care enough to do a deep dive right now. But I haven’t sealed and signed and hit the drop box yet so we’ll see.

MO sends out ballot slip and there's a website to look everything up. I spent an hour working thru that with bonus teen this past weekend. When I asked if she wanted to shadow my voting process, she was all in. She'll go with me to early voting booth when I find an open spot in our calendars. Waiting til 11/5 will mean standing in line for at least two hours and way too many people. Pretty sure early in person voting is relatively new to MO so I'm happy to support it. Looking up the judges seems like extra credit work that I don't have time for. At this point if they're listed Republican they don't get my vote.

I hate printers, hate them. I fiddled with this damn Epson for an hour. First was connection, then said was offline. Then I got that fixed and the paper wouldn't feed. It kept saying check ink, it has the tanks you fill from a bottle, supposed to be able to see the level from the outside. You can't, I tried putting ink in them and they wouldn't take any. So then I finally got a page to feed and the printing was like no ink, I gave up. I need a letter printed out to mail to get them to stop taking Aetna out of my account. You can't just tell them you have another supplement. I got my other stuff done but I need this. I'm thinking I can take my computer to one of the stores and they can print it out from my laptop. The only printer I ever had that worked well, was an old HP but it finally wore out. My son who works with stuff hates them too, said they are awful in many cases to get and keep working. I am frustrated and just m ad, I won't sleep good tonight. I wish I had had taken the time to research all the candidates up here more that I voted for. I read about most of them though, otherwise this year just voted dem I am that disgusted with repubs.. But in Washington apparently you can look up and see who the lobbyists they are working with. Would like that info for all national offices. About time for bed. I am with you on the printer thing - they are the Devil's spawn. My vintage HP is being a brat on doing double-sided but I keep putting off getting a new one. I would like an all-in-one but they are too big for my space
