Dh's job was bought out and he's reading through new employers employee manual which includes things like: Employees must immediately tell employer if pregnant or diagnosed with Aids. Employees will be placed on a leave of absence if called for jury duty and not paid. The employer may call the court to request employees dismissal from jury. Kinda hoping this makes him look for a job closer to home. um, what?? the first isn't their business until leave is needed, and not their business until then. the second? that's illegal. wow!

He was hungry. I couldn't find his food (they only sent enough for up to Sunday morning) and he's normally always been crated when I watched him before, but they must have gotten rid of the crate because now he's just loose in the house.
I can't imagine not supplying extra in case they were unavoidably delayed (car trouble, late flights). What did they expect would happen when they arrived so late? I've always said I was animal-friendly but never wanted the responsibility of a pet. They don't deserve this one. this. my two eat fresh, and I was horrified to discover that there was literally nothing left of what I'd provided for my two this past week. if I'm gone an extended period of time, I provide frozen cooked protein, and gift cards for fresh produce the caretakers will need to pick up on their watch. I can't wrap my brain around these people. wow.

A productive day even though I didn't go out in the car. I like having days like that. Cleaned most of the main floor, did an hour-long cardio workout, polished the sermon I will deliver and record as part of my application for my Lay Preaching License and made an appointment to bring in my car, which started nagging me that it needs an oil change. I checked out the Airalo app for my trip starting next week; I was going to use the SIM card I bought when I went to Munich for the portion of my trip in the UK (overnighting near Heathrow in both directions) but I think I'll just use the single app for everything so I don't have to juggle SIM cards. They're so tiny I'm always afraid I'll sneeze and lose one. Sometimes I technology. I started packing, too. Looks like I may be able to do it all with a carry-on using synthetic fibers that I can wash and hang to dry. BF returned yesterday from a road trip with his brother visiting family sites- places where they used to live, cemeteries where family members are buried, and the Tastee Inn-n-Out in Sioux City for loose meat sandwiches! They left Thursday and over those days drove from Buckner, MO, to Summerfield, KS, to Lewiston, NE, to Beatrice, NE, to Lincoln, NE, to Ralston, NE, to Omaha, NE, to Sioux City, IA (on the scenic route in NE), to Tastee In & Out, to Peterson, IA, to Storm Lake, IA, to Lakeside, IA, to Sioux City, IA, to Leavenworth National Cemetery (Dad was a WWII veteran), and back to Buckner, MO. I loaned him my cooler which he used to take home more loose meat. They serve the sandwiches with fried onion chips and a dipping sauce- good stuff but not on a regular basis. His brother had a stroke a few years ago and can't drive so I'm sure he was thrilled to get on the road. I need to attack the weeds.

Put 8 silver items on eBay. I never use them and part of trying to downsize Immediately got 2 offers on a little pair of old sterling salt/ pepper. ($20 plus shipping) There’re banged up on tops (shown on photos) . Wondering if somehow valuable? Maybe take them over to local silver store just for info. Seems so strange
Have maybe 5 candelabra pairs , will list them . Neighbor moved and gave 4 to me. Found out they’re now being used for wedding centerpieces

Local Nextdoor site has someone offering 2 ball pythons plus cage and supplies for $100. One male and one female snake so I suspect maybe she saw breeding and decided to get out of snake ownership. They are absolutely beautiful creatures so I hope they find a good home. Why don't you take them? I would, but the apartment management frowns upon such things. Snakes have a habit of slithering where they're not wanted. Old Man Cat left us in June after 18 years so we are free to travel for the first time in our lives without the expense of pet sitting which is north of $50/day. Most importantly, they need live prey which is not something I can do as I love rodents too. Ball pythons are on the smaller side and very mellow in nature. Other python varieties are different; all constrictors require skilled ownership. If I were to be alone, I might get some variety of rat - they are very cuddly, super smart, easy to keep and have a long, but not too long, lifespan.

Tell her then maybe she should have been home prior to 12 hours later than they said they would. She also can board her dog next time. She is ultimately responsible for her dog, not you. I don't even know her and I'm pissed off. I didn't comment this morning, b/c I had nothing remotely polite (nevermind charitable) to say. this isn't on you, at all. and I feel awful for that poor pup that these are his parents. I felt bad because I thought maybe he could have OD'd on those meds, but I think they're an over the counter supplement kind of thing. They were in a hard plastic container with a screw top and he chewed it open. I looked through all the texts again and nothing about not leaving anything where he could get it. Re-read the one saying they'd be home around noon though. I mean, I went over there at 11 at night in the rain because I was worried about him and they hadn't replied to any of my texts starting at 3pm. I kind of thought something bad happened to them...except they've done this before, just not this bad.

I had six, but their incredibly short lifespan broke my heart, every time. I can't do it anymore.

In case anyone was wondering, I've managed to turn the claim for the overaged driver from denied to not denied. These people drive me crazy but oddly I still love my job. Dang girl, send me a link to that magic wand! And then! The guy tells me he wants a lower deductible and lower premium on his renewal. No way! They charged you $82K annual premium last time around and we just presented them with an $80K+ claim! No way are your rates going down.

Little guy and I went swimming this afternoon again. He is pushing himself a bit more, but I have to watch him. I explained if you are leaning to swim, then start in the water you can still stand up in and swim to the shallow part not vice versa. He isn't afraid at all and I really watch him. I sure wouldn't want anything happen to him, but he doesn't know I'm watching him that closely either.
I joined a bunch and played water volleyball for awhile. There were less people there but still enough that I did get in the deeper part and try to swim but just too many and it's been a long time. Also, I'm not sure how my foot will do though it does feel really good in the water, just walking around. And I lost my expensive sunglasses, they are prescription sunglasses. I'm sure someone picked them up, only consolation is they can't use them unless they replace the lenses, they are CD. I hung on to those for over 20 years, drat. Guess I will have to buy new and I know it will be over $500. One of the ladies I know and talk to on private messenger was there told me to come over and use her pool anytime. Yeah, sure, her hubs is a retired judge here, but she is a VERY strong dem and so we have become friends through that route. I hope to get an above ground next summer, we shall see.
Little guy had fun, but not many kids to play with, he tries to, he is a friendly nice kid, but you know how hard it is for new kids to make friends, when they don't live someplace. But he did play with some for awhile, weren't many boys his age there today. Their school starts here the 9th of August and I think a lot were likely enrolling today.
Apparently, it really stormed and rained this morning and now we have severe warnings out so I doubt we get to fish again, darn.
I made mac and cheese, it was really good, hot dogs and sausages. Had cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, leftover fried potatoes reheated, they all got full. And I baked a pineapple upside down cake. I was flipping it over and not all of it got on the cake keeper, so its' a bit ragged. Hubs said it really tasted good though.
I guess I need to fix my hair again since I got it wet. It was rather cloudy but I still tanned more. Little guy has a red face, I put sunscreen on his shoulders but need to check, he may need lotion on them.
I got MIL's VA cancelled today, it's only $90 a month but needed done, the best number to deal with them is the VA Hot line, don't remember who gave it to me. After I started calling them, they solved all my problems quickly. She said just leave the money in there and they will take it back. Now I have the pension of $50.63 a month to get cancelled and that will be that part done. Still lots of paperwork to submit, but that's ok.

Countrygirl, I bring my recently outdated pair of prescription glasses to optometrist. Ask them to tint the lenses and I get a pair of prescription sunglasses. Since my new glasses have just been updated, the old pair is usually fairly close and not a problem Tinting is just a small fraction of a new pair of prescription sunglasses

Fool is lucky to get coverage and maybe he should take a really close look at the age guidelines going forward because I'm thinking the 2nd claim won't be pretty

Really reasonable prices. Put 8 silver items on eBay. I never use them and part of trying to downsize Immediately got 2 offers on a little pair of old sterling salt/ pepper. Supper was the last of the goat curry with a mini naan. So good. They finished the sanitary sewer work on our block so I have a load of cleaning rags in the dryer now. We're off to Lowe's and maybe Home Depot tomorrow for a replacement landscape light. I doubt we will find what we want in stock so we'll have to order online. Tonight is Maddow's show so I have to stay awake for a bit. And not kill DH

Hugs Drama. First day of new job, 8 hours of webex orientation scheduled that I can’t miss and ofc DS wakes up full of snot and with his mildly goopy eye now glued shut. DH has him at the pediatrician, but we don’t have the new insurance info yet (supposed to be retroactive to today at least). DH is on a business trip Wed and Thurs too...suppose I should be glad it’s not today At least we’re all negative for covid so far I need to stay negative until I pick up new computer equipment tomorrow at the very least. I hope he's back to normal quick! August has to be the worst month to start a job. Summer plans, school starting, and doctor appointments mean every week I have something during work hours I have to step away for. It doesn't help that I'm cramming in all possible appointments before starting new insurance and a new deductible, but I wish I had moved in July or could wait until September. I tried to get everything done before the great insurance shuffle, definitely hear you on that...DS has just been picking up stuff from camp, then bringing it home and sharing. Dr said he could go back to camp tomorrow at least. Did you guys test positive? I am terrified I’m going to come down with covid before I have any sick time accrued and have no idea how we’ll handle it. Guess we’ll burn that bridge when we come to it.

I'm taking a minute to process some news from some friends I've lost touch with over the years, and I'm just thinking aloud here. I'm probably going to offend some of you with the thoughts I share in this post. while I'm sorry you might be offended, I'm not sorry for sharing my thoughts. also, this post is a good 45min in the making, bc Punk keeps reaching out bc she knows I'm troubled. 😕
earlier this summer, my friend J put up a post that she and her fam were surprised by a pregnancy (she's 40+) and that tests showed it might not be viable, but they were going to see what happened. yay, choice. except that J posted more as she continued to carry this pregnancy, that things weren't going well. she posted Friday that baby C arrived early, and that they were following her lead as to how to proceed. that post had pics with her older kids holding C, all smiles. the pics of baby C just don't look even human. she's that early to be that much under-developed.
well, tonight the update is that they lost C Saturday morning. am I an asshole for thinking they shouldn't have carried this questionable pregnancy to term? I am sitting here hoping that whatever that child experienced in her short life wasn't any pain. I'm so worried for the older kids that they hyped up this little sister that never had a viable chance, and now these two are mourning a shooting star.
ok, I think I'm done now. I'm putting the phone down for the night.

Because my kids help see about my Mom and try to help take care of my house, sometimes I send texts to all 3 of them as a group.
Today I texted that the exterminator will be over there tomorrow. I included my children on the text because they helped shovel a bunch of shit out the house the last time.
My Mom said something crazy in her reply. I asked her to clarify what she said, which I often do when somebody says something crazy to me, to make sure I didn’t misunderstand before I cut up. DS didn’t have that kind of patience and responded asking my Mom how she could even think it was ok to say that, and another text asking “what the hell is wrong with her” and another text apologizing and saying that question was meant for his sister. Then DD text a GIF of a big doll with eyes wide, like shocked. I texted for them to stop it.
I know they understand how frustrated I am with my Mom, and I know that the things they do for her, they are really doing for me because they are appalled at the things their Grandmother has done and continues to do. And I understand wanting to defend me when my Mom says something crazy, but I don’t want them to be disrespectful toward her. Not even in my defense.
After I said stop it, my Mom text “well pardon me for living”. I didn’t respond, and thankfully, neither of my children have responded so far either.

Ds and I never tested but had symptoms the day after dh tested positive (and dd was negative but with more symptoms than dh). We probably should have tested more but based on symptoms and dh's test I'm certain it's covid. The timing on covid actually worked out well since I'm basically between jobs I guess. As long as it doesn't push out the rest of my stuff past August.

I'm pro-choice because I don't think the government should tell me or any other female what to do in this medical instance. (I don't like how much control health insurance has over our choices either.)
I'm pro-choice, and I would - at my current age of 42 - likely done the same thing J did. It is absolutely okay that you would have made a different choice.

I'm putting the phone down for the night. Not everyone will agree on a decision. This is not a dig on you because you don’t have children but it’s very hard to hear bad news when you are pregnant, no matter if it’s a surprise pregnancy or not. You always hope everything happens like it should but it doesn’t always work out that way. Unfortunately, bad things happen too. Who’s to say that it could have turned out positive with a happy ending. In some cases, hindsight stinks. They may not have made the same decision if they knew how it ended. Also, they still could have made the same decision. Either way, it’s not easy. I’d just keep your thoughts to yourself and let them grieve. I tear up thinking about an infant-sized coffin. I guarantee that they were hoping for a miracle and it just didn’t happen. 🥀

I'm probably going to offend some of you with the thoughts I share in this post. while I'm sorry you might be offended, I'm not sorry for sharing my thoughts. also, this post is a good 45min in the making, bc Punk keeps reaching out bc she knows I'm troubled. 😕 earlier this summer, my friend J put up a post that she and her fam were surprised by a pregnancy (she's 40+) and that tests showed it might not be viable, but they were going to see what happened. yay, choice. except that J posted more as she continued to carry this pregnancy, that things weren't going well. she posted Friday that baby C arrived early, and that they were following her lead as to how to proceed. that post had pics with her older kids holding C, all smiles. the pics of baby C just don't look even human. she's that early to be that much under-developed. well, tonight the update is that they lost C Saturday morning. am I an asshole for thinking they shouldn't have carried this questionable pregnancy to term? I am sitting here hoping that whatever that child experienced in her short life wasn't any pain. I'm so worried for the older kids that they hyped up this little sister that never had a viable chance, and now these two are mourning a shooting star. ok, I think I'm done now. I'm putting the phone down for the night. DDIL was pregnant and went to teaching hospital in London. Thinking she would get best of care. Each time they saw her there was bad news, possible birth defects, bowel problems, head too small etc etc Thankfully she didn’t abort GS is healthy tall handsome smart 16 yr Life isn’t predictable and sometimes we make choices that result in tragedy , sometimes we’re grateful for the choice we made.

Long ass day. I busted my butt and possibly my back given how sore I am at work today.
Only to get lectured about making more work because THREE of the 63 samples I ground last week weren't as fine as they should be.
Because they didn't give me enough and I was trying to get through 63 samples!
The other two chemists had no problems. One went to our manager then proceeded to talk.smack about me to other coworkers.
I almost started rage crying but managed to suck it back in.
My work buddy told me you got through 63 samples plus everything else that came in the door. And look at what you got through today.
While carrying everything you are dealing with at home.
If she thinks you're a shitty tech that's her problem and our manager should acknowledge what I've accomplished.
I'm trying real hard to do what the book I'm reading on burn out says and rethink.victories and try not to give into despair.
Shit like this makes it hard. I decided the victory was I didn't chuck it at her head because I made myself remember I carry our health insurance.

For all of you we were you cartoon lovers growing up: today George Jetson was born. We saw this on fb. Took an awful lot of explaining when DD9 wanted to know what dh and I were talking about. Several times we attempted to give up and say it really wasn't important. And then dh was going on and on about how we may see flying cars in out lifetimes bc he figures George was like 40 so we have until 2060ish for Jetson world to be true.

Local Nextdoor site has someone offering 2 ball pythons plus cage and supplies for $100. One male and one female snake so I suspect maybe she saw breeding and decided to get out of snake ownership. They are absolutely beautiful creatures so I hope they find a good home. Is it wrong that I so want to tag Pink on this one? ROFL

Drama - if it helps at all, I've decided maybe the best way for me to cope with work nonsense is to function at a B average. Maybe pull out A work for certain tasks or clients that really, really matter. Otherwise, B work is good enough. It's funny how this little mindset change has calmed my nerves and I can just roll my eyes about all the work crap that typically bothers me.
Part of this thought change is thinking thru how I want to guide DD14 thru hs grades and scholarships. I don't want her to drive herself crazy striving for absolute perfection like I did (and still tend to do far too often even though I'm old enough to know better.) Then, it occurred to me, why not give myself the same grace?! I know I'd never be satisfied with an average performance but B is still above that, and I'll likely live longer and be happier.
By this mindset 60/63 is still A work so in fact you tried too hard. Yeah, yeah lab work is different but hoping my thoughts help.
