LOL. I asked about furniture. DS was like "a big ass tv and lawn chairs."
It is so weird to have a child fully self-supporting before they can legally drink. I mean. I didn't adult until I was almost 26. That's when I was working full time at a real adult (non-grad student) job. It was also when I got married (a few months later after I started working my first post college job. So..I really did the adulting thing up big. Did he make a Friend's reference? Does he even know Friends? Because that is what happened with Joey and Chandler's apartment.

I can see if you live in in area with good public transportation you may not feel the need to have your license as a young person. I'd happily take it if we had a good transportation system in the winter I HATE winter driving. Or if you have physical impairments which prevent you from obtaining your license or driving a car. That is understandable. It's the standing there expecting other people to rework their schedule for you and drive you everywhere that irritates me. HELL NO! YD would get the Uber app installed on her phone faster than she can blink. Those people get paid to cater to her spoiled rotten ass let them drive her. Public transportation sucks around here. Plus, everything is so sprawled out here that life is a lot easier if you can drive. OD started bugging everybody about getting her license as soon as she was old enough. She’d already been practicing for at least a year with Mister and his Mom as often as they were willing to let her, so she was ready. YD doesn’t even know how to drive. Anyway, that’s for her to figure out, and has nothing to do with me.

I think he's just being a 20 year old male. One of the apartments we lived at, we had a group of guys for neighbors. Their living room furniture was a pool table. (They also smoked weed a lot.)

I had an apartment lined up before I graduated high-school but my parents asked dh to move in with us instead and we paid them rent. But we moved out for real 6 months later and bought a condo by 19. Definitely something I would go back in time and change if possible.

My kid is going to have a two bedroom apartment with NO furniture. He has a bed, a small dresser and a desk. It's going to be ridiculously empty.

I'm trying to remember that I think it's also good that they not have everything so they can figure it out, because those are some of the best times.

DD1 is so bored she is cleaning. I really need to get my stuff done so I can get decorations organized for her to put up.
And. You guys.
I talked to the peanut's homeroom teacher yesterday. The teacher just GUSHED about the peanut. Thank god that struggle was worth it.

Well, since the world isn't going to fall at her feel to accommodate her, she might as well learn that now. There is NO WAY I'd be giving her a ride. Anywhere. Actions have consequences. Time for her to be an adult. Yeah, it’s not on my radar to consider or even think about. I was just sharing it with y’all yesterday because I knew some of you would get it. Have you ever shown Mister any of our responses to his children's behavior? I'd be interested in his take on them. Several people all agreeing that they're assholes has to at least be thought provoking for him.

Good morning, earnest invisipeeps, analyzing options and planning for the future. Welcome to Friday! Another work week drawing to a close. I hope your day is purposeful and productive, and ends with an adult beverage if you imbibe and an ice cream if you don't. I hope demands, articulated or not, of other people weigh nothing on you. I hope no one pees in your corn flakes. Today I'll finish house cleaning pretty much. Tomorrow is baking day and making marinades. DH can't find the grates for the grill except for one. Apparently it came with 4 of them. We bought it new over a year ago at Tractor Supply Company and he put it together eventually, but not completely. Now parts are missing. He's upset with himself. In the meantime I'm going to pivot to planning on using the broiler for the menu on Sunday and hope for the best. Also I'll look in the basement for the missing grates. I wondered aloud if he could just use one grate for the grill, but he said no, that wouldn't work. I bought steak for the shish kebab at Costco that looks marvelous. I bought a bunch of other needed items, too. We should be good except for lemons (I have lemon juice) and onions, and coconut. Other ingredients for the marinades I have on hand. The men will pick up the scallops and shrimp on Sunday. We're in a spate of beautiful days, overcast but perfect weather IMNSHO. Yesterday's sunrise was through the morning mist: I hope they didn't get thrown away with the box it came in. The grates would be heavy, so you would have probably noticed before the packaging was tossed. Time to clean house until you find it. DH hates that phrase, because he hears it every time his possessions go missing. People ask us what we do in retirement. I always reply that we spend a lot of time looking for our stuff.

We went to Aldi today for a couple of things, and I found gorgeous lamb shanks which I'll braise with red wine. We also had a totally delightful chat with a total stranger. She was on the paper goods aisle with us as I got our normal replacement TP, paper napkins and 2 rolls of paper towels. She smiled at me and said, "Have you seen the crazy pictures on TV of people buying out all the TP and water and stuff?" We laughed and said, yes, we had and that's nuts. She told us she was from Romania and we started yakking it up. Her mother was from Greece and had two degrees, one in economics and one in French. We expressed our admiration of all things Romanian and discovered we have so much in common. Like me, she takes old towels and cuts them down for cleaning rags or use in the garage. Like me, she makes chicken broth with the backbone, wing tips and neck from a whole chicken. She and DH swapped recipes for polenta . She and her husband are retiring in 2 years and going back to Romania where they have 12 acres in the mountains. They want an active, outdoor lifestyle and she commented about the lack of outdoor activities here. Like weltz , she wants to visit the bakery, the fishmonger and the cheese merchant instead of going to Target. They plan to travel a lot in the region including Bulgaria which is our 2nd favorite country in Europe. She says Turkey is really gorgeous too, but politically unstable as we all know. It was a wonderful and fortuitous meeting. This reminded my of my chat with NIL. Her mother and I chat on Messenger once in a while. She and her husband are back in Ukraine because it's home and Norway is not home. They are currently at their "summer" home, which DN1 says is a tiny cabin with no frills. So far, that area has not been targeted. Odesa is getting hit daily so she said they may spend the winter at the "summer" home.

I do mention “my message board” sometimes, like when I was getting info here regarding his Dad’s situation or other helpful information that’s shared here. But he wouldn’t care at all about what posters here say or think about his daughters.

And, hot damn. I know what some of my eating food to cope triggers are.
Because it just happened. I'm going to have to find some other coping mechanisms.
I feel very self-actualized today.

We live in a small lake with streams coming down from surrounding very small mountains , real mountain people would consider them hills
Looking at devastation in NC mountains, also large damage from floods in Catskills mountains from hurricane Irene about 10 yrs ago. DD friend’s house was washed off foundation in middle of night and she was in the house as it was washed down the mountain. These were houses from the 1800’s We don’t have flood insurance so called our insurance company. They don’t cover floods and referred me to another company FEMA has insurance nationwide and only covers house up to $250000. and costs $5000 yikes!! Our insurance has house replacement cost of $790000. Private flood is $1600 yr. Our insurance now w/o flood is $1600 yr No wonder people down the shore in NJ are dropping their flood insurance. I’m sure it’s more than the FEMA $5000 for us. Think they can’t get private flood insurance

damn, I hate interviewing. (the call got moved up to this am) I don't think I could see myself working for that guy, even if they do pick me to move forward in the process. after the requisite discussion about my background and qualifications, we get into the subjective questions. toward the end, I got a "what motivates you?" now, I know that "getting paid so I can fund my life" isn't the answer anyone's looking for, but come on now.
maybe I'm in a bigger need of a break than I thought, if this is how I react to questions like that today. I mean, I have severance almost through April. I can at least wait til my termination date and not think about it.

Well, I can't answer you with the truth, so please accept my bullshit? Sometimes, though, I could soften the truth. I current have very limited opportunities for growth, and I'm looking for a new path that will provide opportunities. I'm sure there are other things that motivate you: a flexible schedule that empowers you seems to be one motivator. Kind words? Extra time off? A big bonus check? I'm pretty motivated to help folks make their job more efficient. Because then I can do higher level work. ETA: I don't know the last time you interviewed. It took me a few to sort of get in the swing of it. I was asked about how I handle working with non-male, non-caucasian folks in my workplace. (They were getting after DEI considerations.) My last unit was a very white-male dominated unit. I actually responded "I don't work with non-male, non-caucasion folks because, as you know, our unit is mostly made up of white men." I still laugh about that one.

Many Russians and Ukrainians have a dacha.....a small cabin in the woods where they go in the summer. Even here in the city, my mother would look for a small place to rent in the country even if it meant sharing a space with other people. Her favourite thing was to wander the woods, picking mushrooms or berries in the fields. My olfactory memories of summer were berries cooking on the stove for jam and mushrooms cooking with onions, which were then served with sour cream.

While I recognize that BP is an important health indicator but I feel it’s sometimes misused. I’ve struggled with high BP all my life and just last year started a new drug combo which has been very effective. My resting BP is now 130/90 which is amazing for me and has my doctor jumping for joy. But, when I go to the dentist or optometrist they freak out because that’s “high” by their standards. I feel my BP reading negatively impacts my care because they worry I’m going to stroke out in their offices! I have the opposite problem. My BP is too low., sometimes as low as 70/48. When I try to stand up, I get dizzy. It's postural hypotension.

I had a couple interviews back when RTO was first mentioned, but nothing ever went anywhere. when I landed this gig, I was interviewing anywhere and everywhere i could in order to get out of the train wreck that I later called the FDA on. I said to my mom when I spoke with her just now, I have a deep-seated case of Impostor Syndrome, and I'm wired to jump at the first thing I'm offered bc I'm waiting for everyone to realize I don't belong at the table. I have time, I can wait. but, if he picks meto move on to the panel interview, I'll likely take it and use it for practice. I already didn't love that they wantthislerson to start like right when I'm done at the current place. I really want *some* time off in between this time.

We were jolted awake at 5 am by alerts on our phones that a LEO was killed in a small town in the Texas Panhandle hundreds of miles away which is tragic news, but doesn't really justify waking up 3/4 of Houston. While having our morning coffee I figured out how to mute the alert feature After breakfast we were at Whole Foods when they opened and got some lovely fruit and sirloin steak for DH's Sunday recipe. I've cleaned the toilets, he changed the sheets and has them in the washer now. I brought home our Halloween stuff which I'll place tomorrow. I may take a nap now. ETA No nap today, neighbor is having a huge stump ground down

I am up to five freaking recruiters on LinkedIn trying to get me to apply for a 12 month contract job with Merck.
I may not like my job at the moment but I do like not having to worry about there being no job at all and having to hunt all over again in a year.
Plus the commute is a bitch. I am not doing that kind of commute for a job that can go poof in 12 months. Just no.
Still trying to understand how LinkedIn is exactly useful. I find it to be worse than Facebook.

Well, I have also discovered I have no idea where the granny squares that I made for ds's blanket are right now. It's times like this that I appreciate having a 1800 sq foot home. There aren't all that many places to be looking.

I've cleaned the toilets, he changed the sheets and has them in the washer now. I brought home our Halloween stuff which I'll place tomorrow. I may take a nap now. ETA No nap today, neighbor is having a huge stump ground down hugs, some friends in Austin posted the same on FB this morning. wasn't the warning in like El Paso? I remember she said it was like 6h away from them. and you're even further IIRC. and yes, weltz - LEO = Law Enforcement Officer. interchangeable with PD.
