After breakfast we got our haircuts, and I cleaned the kitchen. I relaxed at the 10 am storm update which showed little impact likely for my area, but now Francine has taken a westward wobble so we're back to watch and wait. We should have some clarity by noon tomorrow so we can make any preparations needed like securing outdoor items and putting up the shutters.

I said you were going to be direct (read:mean). He is obviously not going to back off. I politely declined a few times. I didn't want to be mean because this is my cousin's best friend, so he's essentially part of the family. I mean, he should have received the message by now. this is why women choose the bear.

Like green salsa? I can tell you how to make that. No I can make green salsa. Chili con carne but with green chili instead of red. I make a pretty decent green chicken chili but I just cannot recreate her pork green chili and it drives me nuts. She said it's a secret. I countered I live in Iowa so it's not like I am going to open a competing restaurant in Estes Park so COME ON! We've been going to this place for a long time since Bob and I were kids. We're friends with her nowadays. She's a tea snob like I am so she's always giving me various tea from Europe. She was devastated when we told her my mom died. This is the way I do it. You may or may not like it.use the recipe I already posted for the sauce or make your own if you have one you like. I put enough oil in a pot to cover the bottom. I cut up country style ribs into the size I want it. Season however you want. I use Lawry's, but you could to regular salt and pepper. Sear the pork and then cover with the green sauce. Let it simmer in that sauce until it's cooked all the way through. You can adjust the seasoning as you like it. I prefer chicken bouillon to salt. I feel like it gives it a richer flavor.

I guess we are in for the night. While waiting for our room, we went to the bar for tea. I had a bowl of seafood chowder, TD had chicken wings. Neither of us have any interest in food right now.
Tomorrow’s game plan is Ring of Kerry, and if time Ross Castle. We only have 2 nights here, then onto Limerick.
In Limerick, I’m supposed to meet up with an Irish cousin. I think my grandmother and his grandfather are siblings. I’m not sure what relationship we have there, I guess cousin is close enough!

I always add red bell pepper and sometimes carrot too, not to counter the tomatoes' acidity but because we like the texture and flavor that way. I get heartburn occasionally (maybe 4 times a year) but not from tomato products. Given the amount of spicy foods I eat, it's amazing I don't have a problem more often.

I would LOVE some tips. There are flavors I just love, like garlic, but I can't get things too spicy. Even before this started happening, my stomach can't handle some things, like strong peppers. Scandinavian stomach, ya know... cheers, I get that. you need to balance the acid in the tomatoes with something sweet, for starters. some people use sugar, my family generally uses carrots. I like sweeter bell peppers, sliced thin. for a pot of sauce that uses 3-4 big cans of crushed tomatoes, 1 bell pepper is usually enough to cut the acid for me. scale accordingly you can either remove the sweet veggie before serving, or leave them in there. for basic sauce, I sweat onion and garlic down in olive oil with crushed red pepper (you can omit) and dried basil. once it's all translucent, pour your crushed tomatoes over the top. stir in your sweet veggie, and (optional) some fresh grated parm cheese and a slug of a dry Italian red wine like chianti. cover and slowly bring the pot up to bubbling on top. stir, lower the heat, and simmer with small bubbles on the surface for 20-30 minutes to blend all the flavors together. Cool! DH loves bell pepper (I'd probably use red pepper), I'll have to skip or go very easy on the onions (I love some types of onions, they just don't love me back), but the rest sounds great. I've already copied & pasted so I could print this up, & I put it in with my recipes. I didn't realize bell peppers cut the acid. I just figured they added to the problem. Thank you! We have a good friend (both DH's & mine) that we went to college with, who lived in an Italian neighborhood growing up. He is Scandinavian like me, but he said the smell of sauce cooking in the air as he was walking home from school was amazing! Nothing like homemade sauce.

Cooking tip I learned from Sneaky Chef. Add an orange vegetable to your tomato sauce. My preference is either canned pumpkin or baby food sweet potatoes. The sweet from the orange/yellow vegetable counter balances the acidity of the tomato making for a less stringent sauce. I've never been able to taste the sweet potato. Pumpkin depending on the can sometimes but I up how much spices I use and it goes away. Carrots work too. So does squash. It's all personal preference. And it is healthier than adding a pinch of sugar. Adding pumpkin makes sense. Not to compare dogs to humans, but when you've got a dog with an upset stomach, that's one of the foods you're supposed to try on your fur baby. Pumpkin, maybe mixed with some cooked chicken. Hey, whatever works.

He said he thinks he's just not used to a woman being nice to him and he doesn't know how to act. The fact that he's married makes that theory so sad to me.

(Changing the topic here.) Is anyone else here having issues with eating red pasta sauce? I'm not yet retirement age, but in the past couple of years I've been getting more heartburn, and last night I actually got sick (all acid came up). I just don't know if it's an aging issue, or if they're changing the ingredients on the sauces you buy. Maybe I need to learn to make sauce from scratch? I just don't know what to think... there seems to be a lot more things I love that affect me negatively. Tomato based stuff is one, garlic, mushrooms, onion, bacon and fresh bread are a few others. I do attribute it to age.

I would have enjoyed the crunch of green pepper in the spaghetti sauce but my wife said no changes to her recipe.

I haven't been able to tie it to any food, but I definitely am having more trouble with acid indigestion as I get older. Last night, it got caught in my throat and was awful. I have found that eating a half dozen or so saltines help.

I'm going to look at it today. As long as I don't see any issues, I'll make an offer. Hopefully this one is it. I really like it. I would lean into that mid century modern style if I owned that house. I would have to throw some cocktail parties around that bar wearing a matching red outfit! It seems like a lot of house for the price. I also like the laundry room/second kitchen in the basement. It is nice to have that finished space. Yes! Become a mid-century minx!

I am not caught up on this thread, imma go back and read to catch up. Something is bothering me, that I have just briefly mentioned before. It is about how YD dresses, and when I did mention it andi9899 said that YD is an adult and too old for people to be concerned about what she is wearing. I understand and agree that even if a woman is butt naked, that doesn’t give anyone the right to mistreat or abuse her in any way. But at the same time, as a woman myself, and as a mother of a daughter, I feel like it is a bad idea for a young woman to be out in public in what is not much more than a bikini that would be worn at a pool or on a beach. I had a conversation years ago, with a relative that is older than me, and I told her that we (women) can be sexy with how we dress, without revealing all of our goodies for the world to see. For me, that meant that if I wore a top that put my (nonexistent without “help”) cleavage on display, my bottom half didn’t need to be exposed too. Or if I wore short shorts, my top half didn’t have to be nearly naked. My point was that a woman can be attractive and sexy without showing everything there is to see about her body. And that is what I am dismayed about with YD. I am sure that she would say that she dresses the way she does, just because she wants to. But even though I am old now, if we could have an honest conversation, I would tell her that I got plenty of action and attention from men, without me going out half naked and with my butt cheeks hanging out. It’s not really my business how she dresses, as andi pointed out. I am just stating the reasons that I have with how YD often dresses, which is my mind has more to do with her and her safety more than it does with me and my life.

And, I'm amazed at how much time you have after work, working one job. I probably should have been more productive at home. I could have cleaned something off or put away some things for like a half hour or an hour.
I took the night off of job 2 to do kid activities. But, even that it's not a whole lot. I prepped on the weekend.
I just won't want to be productive at 9pm.

Bonus teen just got a nasty text from her mom about how dare I reschedule her oral surgeon appt. Um, you mean the appt that I did all the legwork for including calling multiple times to get teen bumped up the cancellation list?! For a toothache that started while she was still living with her mom earlier this year but didn't bother to tell her because she knew her mom couldn't be bothered based on past experience.
Guess that answers the lingering question of if she would sign over medical POA to make life easier.
Oh and excuse me for calling to update oral surgeon with seizure diagnosis. You know something they might want to know for her safety under anesthesia.
Also included was a rant about how I took teen on vacation two hours away without her permission because yanno that was probably the 'real' root cause of this 'seizure nonsense'.
And sure it makes sense to text all this directly to teen instead of me - that's a totally helpful way to minimize teen's stress induced episodes.
All this and she's technically still the school's first call if teen has an episode tomorrow at her first day back at school. Fingers crossed school social worker gets involved and accidentally misdials that number.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take bonus teen to college fair complete with fully curated list of schools she should consider based on criteria that she and I brainstormed together while in the hospital last week.
My blood is boiling and I might need to borrow our 2x4. Who's currently in possession?
<end rant>

Beyonce's Mom gave her similar advice. It's ok to show a little cleavage, or a little something else, but not both. There's a difference between coming across as sexy or coming across as trashy (please don't take offense, as I've given my daughter this advice--your clothing makes a difference in how much respect MOST men give you. Not all, because some men don't respect any woman.) I think you're awesome to try & teach her something, considering how poorly both of Mister's daughters have treated you. I agree that no one has the right to mistreat anyone, no matter how they're dressed.

You have a right to believe what you believe. We all do. There are plenty of things the girls do that I don't agree with. I just have to keep reminding myself that they're grown and can do what they want. It sucks, but it is what it is.
