We've only recently started vacationing with family and on a much smaller scale than what Artemis is talking about. With my parents and my sister, we plan our vacation and then have invited them along. I think my parents got stuck from doing that on their side because of paralysis by analysis.
As the kids get older I'd love to keep doing that kind of thing with camping and vacationing. But I also love my space and can see my kids on that same trajectory so I can see setting it up more like CCl posted. Especially if we get into more extended family.

Watching the Olympics. DS#2's birthday lunch is today. DH put ribs on the Traeger at 6am. DS requested brownies and ice cream, so I'll make the brownies in a bit.
Casino party is on Tuesday evening. The rest of the day will be preparation for that.

Regarding vacationing with family. DH has seven siblings, so it can get complicated. For ten years, I was the organizer of the annual family trips. Typically, of the five siblings and two adult niece/nephews who regularly vacation with us, three of them immediately pay me what I've told them they owe me for lodging. The other two siblings were covered by their mother, but she passed away five years ago. With the shut down and with passing of my MIL, there's not been a whole group summer trip since 2019. For meals, we assign each family the number of meals based on their family size. So one of DH's brothers is married but they don't have children; that means they have a smaller meal to prepare compared to DH and I who would bring at least two but usually three and sometimes four children. Being assigned a meal meant that sibling's family brought and prepared all of the food for that meal and cleaned up the aftermath.
Assignments would look something like this:
Sibling #1: Monday's breakfast Sibling #2: Monday's lunch, Tuesday's lunch, Wednesday's dinner Sibling #3: Monday's dinner and Tuesday's lunch
That way, the whole meal was prepared without confusion or missing something.

I want to get out to Estes at some point with my dad again before he starts climbing up there in age.
I always assumed it would be him and mom so I'm sad about that but L is welcome.
I'd like Bob to come too with Archie. Dad and I would have to probably pay his way but I'm fine with that. It's been a very long time since all three of us were together as a family vacation.
My idea is we'd book the large family cabin where DH and I stay. Separate rooms for personal space but way easier than trying to snag three separate cabins.
My concern now though would be Bob not being able to handle L so the cabin idea would need to be revisited.
Last time I went with my parents we stayed in separate cabins. We'd meet in the morning for breakfast then either do our own things or plan a day together.
Dad and I agreed after the Thanksgiving no sharing a cabin with one sleeping area and bathroom.
We've both adjusted to not sharing those spaces and it was awkward trying to coordinate showers and changing clothes.
We joked about how he had forgotten what it's like to vacation with kids.
We think a cabin with separate spaces would work. The one at Blackhawk was already booked for Thanksgiving.

I should probably get up and clean. I usually do on Saturday, but we had the baby shower. After that I went to dinner with T2 and came home. I was supposed to go to a birthday party last night, but I wasn't feeling it. I ended up staying home with the twins.

Very nice. Good square footage up and down, new roof, decent flooring, lovely deck, lots of kitchen counter space, good bathroom sizes. Surrounding houses look well kept up.

Mopped the floors and wiped out the fridge. It's amazing but no matter how careful I am, there's always stray bits of something and random sticky places on the shelves and bins.
I slept like the dead but had a very long and weird dream about getting ready to move and sell our home (which we are not at the moment). It was so strong that when I woke up, I had to look around and make sure it was a dream and I wasn't really surrounded by boxes. DH also had a very vivid dream about a contractor digging up half of our backyard.

I like it. I just can't get over how cheap houses are in your neck of the woods. Here you would have to add at !east a 2 in front of that price and it would be gone before you could blink your eyes...

Lot of carpet, but you can deal with that later (along with the lack of dishwasher). Cute house, I love the wooded lot and back deck. Can you put in a dropped ceiling to cover the exposed beams in the basement?

The local grocery store had Dungeness crab on sale, so went and bought enough to have crab this evening for dinner. Usually, the club has a Dungeness feast in Aug, but instead they are doing a ‘Forager’s Feast’. It’s in a week, and they couldn’t tell us the menu, so are giving it a pass this year.

Can you put in a dropped ceiling to cover the exposed beams in the basement? The carpet and that partition by the front door would eventually go away. The exposed beams in the basement don't bother me.

I'm parked on the deck with frozen peas on my ankle. I'm relaxing with the newspaper, coffee, and the Olympics streaming on my phone. I was out 13h yesterday, over 7 of those hours spent in the car. my ankle disagrees that it was a good use of my time. traffic was pretty miserable in a few areas, but I sit back and marvel that I spent 7h in the car and never left the state. that's hard for a small state!
after I finish icing the ankle, I need to get going on food prep for the pups. there was literally nothing left when I picked them up from M and mooch last night. in fact, we all brought them out for chicken tenders at the pup-friendly patio bc the shredded chicken had run out at breakfast. that means they got overfed for the previous two meals, but that's an issue for another day.
happy Sunday, kids!

Speaking of family and vacation -- having issues with mine over a trip in October for a destination wedding. A group of them rented a cabin (my idea), filled it up and never invited me to join them. I got a nice hotel closer to the wedding venue (they are 35 miles away, I am 6 miles away). Also just found out that another niece got married this weekend in Las Vegas - I never got an email, call, text about it. No invite, no announcement, nothing. I would not have been able to attend, but a heads-up would have been nice. I am starting to think I dodged the proverbial bullet with them staying elsewhere in October.
Ran this morning, finished the overnight oats and had eggs, too. One load of laundry in the washer.
I am almost done experimenting with the hydration powders I have. Mostly not great, though the not-so-good ones do make decent ice cubes.
Making chicken pasta with pesto tonight..

Years ago, starting before DS was born, I and 3 of my 4 siblings would each rent an apartment-style unit in a lakesdie house. Except for YDB who had no spouse by then or children, and didn't go, we each had kids that loved to come. Within an easy walk was the lake itself with a raft to swim to and a little beach, and also arcades, bumper cars and the like. A train station was there, too.
ODB loves to cook and he made meals for everyone every day. We'd also go out to eat a few times. Every day there'd be an excursion to the mountains or a Shaker village or a museum or water park or something and if you wanted to go, then you would. We'd also hang out on the vast porch, one upstairs and downstairs, munching and playing poker. WE all loved going for the one week and our children, cousins, bonded for a lifetime.

I had offered the idea of the house and planned to surprise the others by paying for it so we could all be there for the wedding. My mom would have loved the idea. But they went ahead and did it without me and there's no room for DH and I. Okey Dokey. I also found out that the family indulged in the availability of wacky tobaccy while in Las Vegas for the niece's wedding, where a small amount is legal to purchase for recreational use. If they are considering bringing this habit to the October gathering, it's a hell no for me. I cannot stop them, but I can avoid them.

I like it! But - me being me - I would totally hurt myself getting out of the step in shower. The vanity is too close to the shower entrance. I can see myself falling into it and hitting one of those sharp corners. But I am klutzy. I would also ditch the carpeting. I hope something gels soon for you Andi!

I don't like that one bathroom either. I am a little weirded out that its like the tale of two houses. Brick with wood or yellow shutters in front and mostly blue and gray in the back? Feels like a house divided or photoshopped. If its real I think the shutters in front should be blue.

I know you hate carpet, but the non-carpeted areas all look like LVP in ALL of the rest of the house. that makes me think that there isn't hardwood under the carpeting. that's not a small project. and that peachy tiled bathroom in what I am guessing is the basement? they didn't even pick an LVP that complements that tile. IMHO, this flip is lipstick on a pig, like the one I bought. run.

I had such a lovely morning. I always worry about the kids getting along, in their adult years. They are so different, I worry about them liking each other. (They do watch out for each other.) Even DD1 and the peanut had some nice conversation.
If something happens to me, I know they will be OK, with each other. That is very comforting.

I'm currently on the couch waiting for the floors to dry. After that I just have to vacuum the living room and I'm done cleaning. Since T2 is never home anymore I've decided that the hallway bathroom is communal instead of just hers. I decided to clean it to my specs before I expect everyone to use it. The shower was gross. Not that I expect others to shower there, but you have to look at it while you pee, so I cleaned it. It was an experience. I've decided to drink a beer while I wait for the floors.

I just came back from re-meeting a BFF and her son that stayed overnight, I found and returned something left by accident. What really sucked was the damn smoke detector started going off at 2AM! I wasn't able to change the battery until after 6AM. I needed a spotter due to the ceiling height. The annoying and frustrating part about the beeping was I replaced the damn thing when I got the house. I was told the battery should not need to be changed for about 4-5 years - Obviously they were wrong.
Thankfully I got a really great German Chocolate Cake and fresh baked bread for hosting.

I don't have a place in my body that does not hurt. Next move will have to be other people, I can't do it. My son said he has no friends that don't have bad backs. All those guys sit all the time and I'm sure their muscles are weak. But wow. Fixed our pills for the week this morning and made us both ramen noodle soup. That's about all can do today. Well a 78 year old cannot work weeks on end like younger people. I did good for quite awhile, but may be done for awhile too.
The load in the wash is lopsided and whacking like crazy, need to fix that.
Need to run over to the house today and find the motorhome title and drop the rent payment in the drop box, don't want to be late on the first one. I got rid of lots of pots and pans down there so there is room for mine from this house, so that's a positive. But we are going to have to get rid of lots of stuff. I'm not going to do like DIL and have a room unusable because of too much stuff. I told hubs that house wasn't big enough, but then when I started cleaning, yes, it is. It will be just fine.
I thought I might do a couple of things there, but that has went out the window. I took 2 pain pills, they don't make me sleepy, in fact not sure they do much of anything to help. And I will likely go back to sleep for awhile. And hubs wondered why we haven't opened bank accounts yet, oh my. I told him I have hardly had time to breathe, let alone open a bank account.
My Amazon account doesn't work and lost all my emails in my old account. The company changed us over and its a mess, then my phone took over my computer so right now I am kind of stuck. I will get it corrected but not right now.

I have a sinus headache today. The family celebration went really well, but the flowers were way over the top and my allergies are still recovering. Our first set of guests have gone home, and the second set of guests are due to arrive tomorrow. I washed all the sheets and towels and cleaned the bathrooms, so the house is ready for them. Now I can lay down and hope that the headache gets better.
For those curious, I have no idea where SIL ended up during the renewal of vows ceremony. She stepped out at the beginning and showed up afterward for the pictures, and the whole day went very well without any drama.
