Had a great day hiking up and down the great wall. I wore regular tennis shoes and the hard brick surfaces on the pathway made the bottom of my feet sore as well as my son's. I recommend hiking shoes cushioning soles to absorb the impacts of climbing and descending on bricks. After the excellent Peking Duck late lunch early supper, we went to a traditional Chinese foot massage establishment for our sore feet that employs blind masseuses only so as to support the local less fortunate. On another note regarding massages. I recall traveling from the US to Southern China for a work assignment. I arrived in Zhuhai (adjacent to Macau) after 18 hour of travel time and did not really sleep the night before leaving. Flight left at 1:30 am and I arrived in Zhuhai around 10 am after 1 layover. The factory owner met me at the airport then off to lunch we went then off to the factory until 6pm, then supper until around 9pm. At that point I was really tired but could not sleep due to jet lag. So I decided to go to a massage place next to the hotel I was staying at overlooking the South China sea. This massage parlor offered hot stones to be placed on your back while wearing paper style underwear. The staff at this massage parlor placed me in a private room with bathroom including a shower. I recall paying around 45RMB or 6USD. After taking a shower, I was put onto a table face down on a table with a large hole so that I could breathe and my back was massaged and oiled before hot stones were placed upon my back. I was so tired and relaxed that the next thing I remembered was waking up around 7am the next day on the same bed facing down minus the stones, no one bothered to wake me up. Next I got up, showered, put my clothes on and left the premises after the night guard opened the front door to let me out. As I exited the massage parlor, I faced the South China sea and said out loud " Good Morning Zhuhai". When the factory owner picked me up at 9am the same morning at the hotel I explained to him that I did not need to book a hotel room since I could save the company at least 40USD a day by frequenting all night massage parlors. The factory owner then told me that I was nuts and not to tell him of my adventures since he feels responsible for my welfare while in Zhuhai. When I returned to the US, I received a call from the US distributor of the product made in the Zhuhai factory to tell me that I was also nuts but he added that the factory owner and the distributor were entertained by my adventure. In being picked up at different hotels in Zhuhai the following several years, I always greeted the factory owner with " Good Morning Zhuhai" followed by laughter from both of us. Great times. I love everything here. Thank you.

Sitting here thinking someone's dryer sheets stink. Just realized it's my dryer. Did you retrieve them from someone’s dog’s butt? I can’t remember who posted today or yesterday that their dog ate a dryer sheet. It was Jackson. I think he'll live. I've been watching his poop and it's been normal. That dog will be the death of me.

Enjoy MOA. Clothing has no sales tax in MN if you see some back to school wardrobe pieces. Eta: When it comes to Minnesota sale tax, clothing has a blanket exemption, except for accessories, any type of fur clothing, sports apparel and equipment, and protective equipment and clothing. There is no price limit. Does food have sales tax? Varies by state but groceries for cooking is usually no. Prepared food and meals (restaurants) yes. City close to us just raised the meal tax to 14%. Fast food is included. Robbery IMO. ETA - The meal tax and sales tax combined is 14%. Sales tax is 8%. Tax on top on tax. Ugh

I got REALLY distracted after whatever my last post was, and I’ll have to go back to try to catch up tomorrow. I don’t remember how many hours ago it was that Mr. T came over to chat with Mister, but he just left less than 20 minutes ago. Mrs. T ended up coming over to chat with me, and even though I enjoy chatting with her, I have to go to work tomorrow, and still had things I needed to do before I go to bed. They were separate conversations, she was chatting with me and Mr. T was still chatting with Mister. I have better social skills than Mister does, and even though I said earlier that I wasn’t going to rescue him (again) after I knew he probably needed it after about 30 minutes of conversation with Mr. T…. as the hours went on, I didn’t know how to gracefully get either one of us out of it. I feel bad saying that, but it’s true. We both like the T’s, and I genuinely enjoy talking to Mrs. T, but tonight wasn’t a good night, and I have to go to work in the morning However it happened, Mister started his car and I told Mrs. T that it seemed like Mister was ready to put his car in the garage, so we needed to call it a goodnight. Mr. T was still talking to Mister, but Mrs. T got the cue when I said something, and Mr. T followed her lead. During all of that, there was another issue because I guess Kiddo was bothered because he was not the center of attention, so he called his Mom and told her he was hungry, even though Mister stopped and got him something to eat on their way home. So his Mom called Mister, and that was another problem. The guys working on our deck had been here and gone by then, but while they were here, when they were going back and forth to their truck, sometimes they would stop and be the rebound guy for Kiddo when he was playing with the BB goal in the driveway, and throw him the ball so he could shoot it again.. That was NOT part of their job, and it would’ve been fine with me if they’d ignored him when they had to go in the driveway to the truck. But I appreciated that they took a few minutes to be his rebound guy instead of just ignoring him, which they had every right to do, since they were here to work and not entertain a child. But I guess even that extra attention from some strangers was not enough for Kiddo today. So he called his Mom and told her he was hungry, which pretty much guaranteed that she would call Mister and have a problem with him, which she did. Even though there was no way that Kiddo was actually hungry, since Mister stopped and bought Kiddo some fast food that Kiddo said he wanted, on their way home. So my Friday evening went left in a few ways that I had not planned. I am still interested in what my peeps here have going on for the weekend, but imma have to catch up tomorrow. In the meantime, I wish peace and blessings for all of my invisible friends here. Goodnight. Kiddo calling mom is a real issue IMO. Smells of manipulation, pitting the parents against each other. He is old enough to know what he was doing.

I'm feeling productive and accomplished already today. the pool has been cleaned and is currently getting filled again. I've also weeded the area at the base of the deck stairs. I'll do the back large area later this afternoon when the sun moves over the house and that will be shaded. I've emptied the dishwasher and dug out an old personal laptop to boot up and find a grocery flyer online to make a shopping list. my work laptop is still useless. 🤦♀️

I haven't clenched my teeth while sleeping for the past three days.
I even slept through the night last night, sleeping more than 4-5 hours.
I've also been able to walk every day. So my cankles are nto awful.
Totally worth the cost. (I'm on one of my crafty retreats). AND I get to do it again soon.
Theo, you are in my thoughts.

Our combined city and state sales tax is 8.25%. Most foods are exempt but prepared meals are not. Texas has a sales-tax-free weekend each August where clothing, shoes, and school supplies under $100 per item are exempt. Most stores offer big sales during this time and you can get great savings if you can stand the crowds

In 2022 we went to Fiji. This was during the worst of TD’s RLS before he was able to get it under control. The man barely slept, and was still diving. It drove me nuts, I was afraid he’d fall asleep while diving as sometimes he was a walking zombie. One evening, we had couples massages scheduled before dinner. As we are being worked on, I heard snores from the next table. He was out cold. He slept the whole massage, but I wound up waking him up after I dressed as we had dinner plans. It was a bit more…..I want to say $15pp. Afterwards, I scheduled a bunch of massages since it was one way I could guarantee he’d get a good hour or so of sleep.

Ugh We had something interesting happen at dinner the other night at SLAP. Since we were a large party, we had the automatic gratuity added to our bill (a few restaurants we go to realize that they do better if they don’t add it and let us tip out). Anyway, the auto gratuity was taxed. Really? We are at 10% or almost 10% sales tax now. We also get taxed on labor so when the window washers come next week, the labor charge is going to get taxed too. Gotta love it. This gets painful like when we paid the $40k to get the house resided. The tax was in the thousands too.

So I went online to see if there was anything new on the market. The house on Yecker has an open house today. I'll be going to that one too. It looks nice from the pictures.

I am up but not at 'em.
Have some household chores to do today in preparation for the surgery and not doing things next week. Doing what I can do ahead. Some things, like that cat box, can't be done ahead of time.
Going to try to relax. Have not been doing a good job of it the last few days.
I see NIL is receiving a check today. I have no way to deposit it until I can drive again. The branch out here is closed on Saturday and the check won't be in my mail box until later anyway. I don't have their debit card to use the ATM. I know they don't want my sister to see it because sometimes the bank puts the bank balance on the receipt and sometimes they don't. If I remember, I tell them I don't want it, but if an issue is made of it to sister, she would not ask to not have the balance.
Will talk to them tomorrow. Probably wait until I feel comfortable driving to deposit it. It's usually around $250 or so. It's not going to break them.
They are trying their best to get the University of Michigan to direct deposit their checks to their US Bank account this year. They have tried that every year for the last 4 years and they mail a check. The checks are not even cut the same month and then they come to me. Now they are substantial and I do deposit them the same day I get them.

Had a rough night, from 1 to 5 hit the bathroom a lot. Would no more lay down and start to sleep and had to go again. I am exhausted this morning. I'm sure from loss of fluids and lack of sleep. I wonder if it was something I ate. At least I should not be constipated for awhile, LOL!
Today will be packing odds and ends. I am down to a book case and been working on it and a chest. Likely things to throw away and to pack.
Hubs is spraying the dirt off the windows, then we will wash them later today, in and out.
We are going to his class reunion tonight, hope I can stay awake. I'm happy he is getting to go as it may be a long time before he sees any of these folks again, well, after he leaves for good. I'm am flying back in September to go to mine. If son and DIL can watch DD for a couple of days we both will come back.
I got the ammo packed up, he will take it, has to be separate from the guns. Most of the guns are at sons, but we have just a few left here, hubs will take the ammo. He cleaned out the duct exhaust, got a lot out of it. It's a long run from the middle of the house to the side.
All screens are downstairs, so that is done. I hope the shippers come the 23rd, then I can get the house vacced and mopped before we leave.
Ok, to work again. Better eat breakfast first.

There are rules about how receipts should be printed based on who does the deposit.

Verizon guy has come and now gone to look at a box a couple streets over. No signal coming from the street at all. Glad it wasn't just me. Now to rearrange the garden bed.

I caved and turned the AC back on, I was melting outside. I'm going to hop in the shower and then head out for that grocery run. Punk has been in and out of the pool a few times and is currently zonked out on the dog bed in the big room. LD is out cold on "his" bed in the guest room. they can sleep while I shop. we can spend the afternoon out back under the big oak tree. maybe I'll drag out the pieces of my hammock stand and put that together. I could relax in the hammock with a book

It's been productive around here so far. After breakfast DH dropped off the dry cleaning and filled up his gas tank while I mopped the bathrooms and hallway. I lost some time watching a car behaving oddly including driving up and down the street, pulling up in my drive, blocking my drive at one point and so forth. I snapped a pic of the plate just in case. Turned out the damn fool was meeting someone at the rental across the street but it made me so tense I jumped 3 feet when DH came in the back door. I got a load of cleaning rags in the dryer now.

chiver78 I was melting outside too, and after only 1/2 hour of weeding. In the morning. I am not proud of that. Watching Stage 20 of the Tour de France - less than 15 miles to go, but all the top spots are decided. Watching the descents through the Alps makes me nauseous. They are cycling faster than I often drive. Tried a Red's chicken chorizo burrito this morning - it was a bit spicy but actually pretty good. I got DH to try a blueberry scone for breakfast (bought from a bakery) and he liked it, so I will have to learn to make them now.

same! I definitely screwed up my internal thermostat after 3w in the AC between fireworks and nutty humidity. I'm not proud of that either. after the weekend, the forecast should be low 80s around here. much more manageable!

Just finished eating a late breakfast. I very rarely cook breakfast, but today I was in the mood for grits and scrambled eggs. DH threw a can of biscuits into the oven too.
Wanted to do yard work today, but the rain is making that impossible. We started teaching Kiddo to do laundry yesterday so I supervised her getting a load in the washer this morning. Since we are stuck inside today we need to clean out her closet and get rid of things that are too small. I also have a couple of small sewing projects I need to get done. Sew the head back on Kiddo's lovey, sew name tags in outerwear for school, and sew up a lip balm holder to attach to Kiddo's backpack. If it is not storming later DH will take Kiddo to the library for afternoon craft time. I need to see if she has books to return too.

Very overwhelmed, on the verge of a panic attack. Between 2 new humongous work projects with strict schedules the next 2 months, handling everything at home with DH out of commission, and figuring out how to work around his doctor & now PT appointments and trying to get him out of the house to walk because he doesn't want to be around his parents because they are annoying him (welcome to my f*cking world!) I can't keep up at this pace.

I know it's not the latest hi tech thing to do but sometimes OLD ways work best.

TD is in the process of making blueberry pancakes and bacon for the mounds of blueberries we have. He does good pancakes.
We need to go and get his suit fitted today. Hopefully the tailor is in, or it means a second trip. I need to remind him to bring his dress shoes. I also need to find out if they can recommend someone to lop a few inches off of my dress, I need to make an executive decision about shoes though. With the teal dress, I chose some black suede flats, thinking that I could wear them again. Periwinkle blue? Clueless as to color. I can either pick up the silver in the dress, go blue or go neutral? I just don’t know. I can’t wear cheap shoes for an6 length of time, and I hate the idea of paying a lot for a single wear.
I also need to hit the grocery store today. I meant to go yesterday, but the blueberry adventure with all the construction took way longer than expected. Will pick something up for dinner tonight to make. Not sure what though.

Same. It's going to be cloudy and in the upper 70s today. In the low 80s tomorrow. I'm going to wear my hair down today. It's been in a bunch for months because it has been so hot.

Making lunch after having achieved a lazy breakfast. Wondering if I should try to get me and the rollator to the Spanish market for a couple things or drug store. The rollator definitely has its issues, but the under-seat storage makes a nice shopping basket.

For at least the last four years I have a new mantra, 'what is the least I can do?' So what is the least you can do in all of this and still accomplish your goals? Aim for a C or even D grade in some cases. The goal is to survive until things are better and there is less on your plate. It's far from easy. And if he doesn't want to be around his parents, ask him how he is contributing to making that happen? MO. YMMV
