Got my flood insurance renewal - $926 but much cheaper than paying 100% for damage. Our director text group is lively since one was attacked by two large dogs on her own front porch this afternoon. Loose dogs (fences down) are a huge problem here with multiple neighbors injured and their pets injured or killed. City does squat and folks are really pissy right now. curious what it was before? mine was $2400 for my last house- a ~1200 sf cape that only ever flooded the one time because there was a fucking unknown hole in the foundation.

Just finished my shower. We are “supposed to” get some rain over the next few days. We really need it, it is so dry. I went ahead and cut grass for DH. He wanted to do it this past weekend but wasn’t feeling well. Watered plants, weedwhacked, litter box done. I just have to clean and refill one of the hummer feeders.
I have a headache, and I hope I can sleep well.

I am not in a flood zone so no mandate to have it but in Houston never say never. Hurricane Harvey left many "never flooded" houses with 6 feet of water inside so it's cheap at the price. Friends just a few blocks away closer to the bayous forming Houston's drainage system pay $2000+ a year. Houston was built on a swamp and we just keep pouring concrete over dirt so there's no place for the water to go.

DGS and wife were scheduled to fly in last night from Chicago to Newark. Flight canceled . Rescheduled to today from Chicago to LaGuardia . Fight canceled so Chicago to Philadelphia, then on to LG then an Uber. Thought we would be able to spend day at lake then a barbecue. Nope I’ve always had problems with Chicago flights They’re going to Spain tomorrow . Hope they have better luck Ouch. Is it weather issues from Chicago to this coast or something else? Do they live in Chicago or one of the burbs?

Expensive lesson of the day. - do not leave prescription sunglasses in the car during a heat wave. I now know what crazed lenses are. $525 poorer. And that was just replacing the lenses. Ouch! My car lives under the house, so it is much cooler to hop into than DH’s.

I was zone AE, at 15' above sea level. I appealed and it went nowhere.

I’ve been caught in Houston a few scary times with flooding in play. Hope things are improving a bit in your neck of the woods. It just takes time to recover.

We got lucky with Beryl in that it was a wind storm and not a water storm, just the opposite of Harvey. Beryl was also very fast moving unlike Harvey which was blocked by 2 highs and just dumped on us for days. Most folks have power, but not all. Even in my neighborhood some still don't for various reasons, and some who had power lost it again as damaged trees continue to fall. Most of the traffic signals are working which is nice, but Houstonians don't pay much attention to them anyway.

Frontera was a success--everyone liked it. We did get mild (Scandinavian tastebuds).

Closed on the house today. The bank checked and we all verified that the wire transfer went where it should. They told me at the bank there is so much fraud now they have to watch. I had to call in, give them a special code, and indicate whether I had personally talked to the closer that was getting it and more. Of course, I'm glad they did that, but I was still nervous.
I spent 2 hours getting my printer to work on my old computer. Now I'm trying to get the form printed for the savings bonds I need to report as lost. The old computer doesn't seem to want to print the form, got it to print other things, and I can't get the new one to connect to the damn printer, hubs wants me to get it in in case someone tries to cash them. I think I will call tomorrow. I go to Treasury Hunt and all it says is there seems to be some in my name, and that is with my SS number!! I don't have time, but I need to get that in and reported. Then today DD to the doc. I'm exhausted, even slept through a windstorm last night. I saw lightening when I went to bed and that was it, I fell asleep and heard nothing. But like everyone else not rested.
Talked to son and grandson has either measles or chicken pox, he is quarantined. Said they are fortunate as the doc is across the street. I don't know if DIL is too. That's not good. He said she is ready to come home. I don't know if because of that or other issues. He has been vaccinated, but figure that was the fever he had before he left. Nothing worse than not being home and being sick.
I HAVE to get more done, this stuff isn't packing itself. Hubs worked with the guys today and got rid of old metal and steel for them to take to sell. He wanted all the junk out of the yard. He said he also got some stuff out of the basement. There's just some odds and ends empty boxes and things down there.
Had another person come and get moms' old bedroom dresser and has to come back to get the headboard, she was thrilled to get it and I was thrilled someone like her did. I think made another $400 today.
Ok, going to mess with the printer again and see if I can get it to work with this piece of junk.

Compared to Newark to us I refuse now to fly to Chicago as I’ve had too many weather related problems

hugs, soupandstew. I'll keep my opinions on how TX views dogs to myself at the moment, since I know you're not of the popular opinion (LD came from Houston. I'll stop there)
I'm currently chatting with a HS classmate who's an ex-pat in Nova Scotia. she and her DH have been there almost 3y. I've made comments about moving over the years. since this weekend, I actually looked up some questions about what I'd need to do to make that happen. I don't need an immigration lawyer, since I'm a citizen. but I do need to know about stuff like obtaining a DL and signing up for healthcare. I've found some links that I saved, in case I need them.
we are under a storm watch rn, and have moved inside. pups are out cold, I'm still kicking around b/c I napped a beat. I'm winding down, though. Mr Crazypants' tree guys will be here in the am to trim what's hanging over the fence from my trees. they had asked for access to my backyard (totally fine) so whenever they arrive I'll be letting them in. none of it is on my dime though.

Today when we went to play in the new toy, Mister said we were going to get my 12yo grandson. DGS likes cars, he might not remember a person’s name, but he remembers the make and model of the car they drive, if he’s seen it.
I took him for a ride in the Tahoe when we first got it, when I took him shopping for his birthday. He and DD said the (black) Tahoe looked like a Secret Service vehicle, so that day DGS and I played “Mr. President”, he sat in the back and I was his driver lol. When Mister and I took the entire top off the Jeep, I went and took DGS and DGD1 for a ride. So I was pleased that Mister wanted to go get DGS today and take him for a ride.
When we left hime today and Mister told me we were going to get DGS, I just called DD and said I was coming to take DGS somewhere with me for a minute, and didn’t say anything about the car. When we got there and I called and told him to come outside, when he saw the car, he was like “WHOA!” and started grinning and said "oh boy, this car is so cool".
The car cut off when Mister tried to pull off lol.
Mister rolled the windows down so DGS could hear the noise it can make (it has settings to control the noise level). Every time I turned to look at DGS in the (tiny) backseat, he was grinning from ear to ear. The exhaust pops sometimes when you decelerate, and when it did it, I asked DGS “did you hear it poot”. He laughed and said yes.
Mister got on the expressway and zoomed for a minute. I asked him “was that for you or for DGS”. He said “that was for both of us” lol.
DGS seemed really happy that we came to take him joyriding. When we took him back home, Mister told him “next time we’re gonna burn rubber, but I have to learn how to do it first”. DGS liked that idea.
When we got to the end of the street after taking DGS back home, DD called and told me “Tell Mister I hear him out there flexing”. I told Mister what she said and after she and I hung up, I told Mister “what she didn’t know was that you weren’t flexing, you were just trying to get going”. His first reaction was to laugh, but he cut it off and side eyed me and said “so you got jokes”. Which made me laugh.
Anyway, I was really happy that Mister went and got DGS today without me asking him to, and that DGS was excited and enjoyed joyriding with us. Next time Mister takes it out, which will probably be tomorrow lol, I will tell him to go by himself and have fun. He told me yesterday to be ready to roll when he got home from work today, and him including DGS was a nice surprise, so next time, I will tell him it’s okay for him to go play by himself.

Swell. I was filling up the new mower tonight and the gas can spout broke off and fell in the tank and I can't get it out. I might blow some money on one of those flexible grabber tools, but mainly I'm just going with the assumption that this is not going to cause any problems being in there forever.

Good times! Yes! I just got off the phone with DD and she said DGS came in, telling her all about the car and the highlights of the ride. He even described the screens on the dashboard to her. I am very glad that he is old enough for him to always remember that we came and took him riding the very next day after Mister bought the car, because we know he likes cars. Kiddo couldn’t care less about a car, and would’ve been confused about why, if we’d done that with him lol. My granddaughters would’ve been happy to go riding, just because, but they wouldn’t have “got it” like DGS did. And the tiny back seat only seats 2 (small) people anyway. But I had some stuff with me that I’d already bought for all 3 Grandbabies and just hadn’t given them yet (that we went back home to get after Mister told me where we were going), so even though my Granddaughters didn’t go on the ride, I am glad I had some things I’d already bought for them, to show that I think about them too and the ride today wasn’t about me ignoring or not caring about them. But yes, good times! And I love it.

My old BF had a new Camero, right before he died. The back seats were so tiny! It was like sitting on the ground, with no place to put your legs. But it was a beautiful/fun car. Bright red, with a black convertible soft top.
Have fun!

My old BF had a new Camero, right before he died. The back seats were so tiny! It was like sitting on the ground, with no place to put your legs. But it was a beautiful/fun car. Bright red, with a black convertible soft top. Have fun! I like Camaros! Especially the old ones, but I was also drooling over them when they first brought them back into production the last time. Idk when she bought it, or how long she kept it, but I clearly remember the Camaro my Mom had when she was pregnant with my younger brother. I didn’t know it at the time, she told me some years later, after she learned that I really like certain kinds of cars, that people often assumed that the Camaro she was driving, must’ve been her husband or boyfriend’s car, because of the way it looked. And she was the one that taught me how to drive a stick shift after my Grandmother’s husband randomly bought me a car when I was in high school, that had a manual transmission. But I didn’t know until this evening that she learned to drive a stick in a Mustang that her BF owned and taught her how to drive when she was in her early 20’s. I’d never thought to ask how she had learned to drive a stick, and it only came up because of Mister’s car also being a Mustang. She said this evening that she use to show out and burn rubber after she learned how to drive the Mustang, and her BF was good with all of her shenanigans. She also said that she was glad that she knew how to teach me how to drive the car my Grandmother’s husband bought me. I told her I was glad about that too, that she was the one that had the skills and knowledge to teach me. And we both mentioned the time when I was learning when I stalled out at a busy intersection and got so nervous about all the cars backed up behind me that I gave up and asked her to switch seats and get us going, which she did, and drive right off. The conversation was things I might have never learned about her, and we might have never said to each other, if not for Mister buying a darn car that brought back memories for her. I’ll have to explore the subject some more with her, but I am thinking that some of my love for certain kinds of cars, may have come from her. She had an old hot rod Monte Carlo when I was in high school, before I had my own car. That is the car I drove to school for a while, and broke the axle sliding into a curb trying to get at least to a friend’s house that was closer than home, after school let out early because of the snow. My Mom was not upset with me for breaking the axle, she knew it was my first time ever driving in snow, and it was pure luck that I even made it as far as I did. It is only in hindsight that I understand that that particular car was a beast. A beast that I’d love to own now lol. Heck, it wasn’t a ‘68, but I’d love to have the Camaro she had when I was a young child,

Sorry to read this. I hope you are right. I do not miss filling lawn mowers with gas. (And the cleanup from doing so sometimes) This is a big John Deere mower right? Gas can spouts still metal?

How bad was the attack? Are they OK? One person with er visit for hand damage, another self treating for minor bite. One dog and multiple cats dead, some dogs injured. Not good, but not fatal for humans. I'd still be freaked out though. The only ferals I know of by me are two cats. I hope none of the hand damage is permanent and I would be traumatized if I saw what happened to the dogs and cats.

Swell. I was filling up the new mower tonight and the gas can spout broke off and fell in the tank and I can't get it out. I might blow some money on one of those flexible grabber tools, but mainly I'm just going with the assumption that this is not going to cause any problems being in there forever.
The plastic spout in gas cans is compatible with gasoline and should not break down and cause problems. Call the dealer's mechanic and not the sales department to check anonymously. "Hey I was just wondering regarding my idiot neighbor, he/she dropped the gas can plastic spout into the mower's tank. Can this cause a problem over time ? Would the fuel filter catch any debris?"

Any chance they were flying American? I have been seeing messes like this on travel boards. Yes American They’re hoping the hotel and Uber will be reimbursed by their travel cc. Uber fro LG to our house in NJ YIKES EXPENSIVE! Compared to Newark to us I refuse now to fly to Chicago as I’ve had too many weather related problems O'Hare was my home airport. With Mom and Dad now dead, only sister B and friends are out that way. And sadly with Dad gone I wouldn't do my fave modifier which is fly into MKE and hit Kopps's custard, etc. on the way home. MKE is so much easier to navigate. I think O'Hare and Newark are in the top 10 for flights in and out, so there's going to be issues simply because they aren't small airports.

Good morning, invincible invisipeeps, managing your lives and loves. Welcome to Wednesday. I hope your day offers relief from torrid heat. I hope your fondest desire is sated on this day of days, and that no one and nothing pees in your Cheerios. Today I'll spend reworking our website and preparing for the 2-day show at a nearby Cape town this weekend. I spent a good part of yesterday sorting and culling pictures for that show. I also braved Costco and bought more Melona bars. This is just the time of year when they taste best. Yesterday Franklin the Dog and I again went to the beach timely for a dawn in which the sun never appeared again. Gray on gray, misty and clouded over and seasonably hot:

I'm up an hour before I wanted to be, but I am prepping for luck and also turning my doc visit into teledoc. That's bad because this FMLA is going to be sponsored by my messed up right knee etc. which should be easier for work to understand versus sinuses, sleepless niights and when it all goes to heck. Anyway, briefly to more fun things. I think I missed when Mr. bought his new car and well everything that is known about it. I thought he was buying a new Mustang but since I see Pink posting about a Camaro. So if it is a Camaro, does it look like the one below?

I got cold feet about the new job last night.
It will be a good time for me to learn some humility. And I'm going to need to keep that in mind.
I also am totally addicted to the emotional hits from the poor environment. Like, just thinking about not getting those hits puts me in a panic.
I came home last night and I was like "OMG. WTF have I done? What am I going to do?"
DS was all like "Ma. You are going to knit and shit. You won't be so stressed that your hair is all grey."
DH told me it's the best decision I've ever made. I did remind him that, it's up there, but not the best decision.
The struggle is real.

Yeah, my google searches have found lots of people that have been running them with filler tubes in them for years without problems. The only thing I think it could possibly interfere with is the float for the fuel gauge.
