Dear God. My grandma's flip phone bit the dust. My boomer uncle is trying to teach my 87 yo grandma how to use a smart phone. For my 83 year old mother with dementia my brother just pre-loaded all the family members numbers into the phone and then showed her how to call them from the contact list. He removed all the pre-loaded apps and she has about 4 or 5 essential apps. There is no screen lock. Mom does still have a landline so that is what she uses most of the time. Actually her cell phone is rarely charged. It runs down and she forgets to check it.

I was reminded the Sox have a night game tonight, by a FB post from a friend originally from NY who subscribes to the YES Network who can't watch tonight for blackout rules since she's in NH now. I decided not to be an asshole and comment "thanks for the reminder!" but the Sox are in the Bronx for the weekend.
so, I'm now parked on the couch with the game on. I've got a lazy salad and cocktail well in progress. it's still shitty out, so I'm definitely sleeping upstairs tonight.

My BIL has a flip phone. They did get rid of the landline. He can read a text message but he doesn't know how to send one.

I am finally home from work. Idk how my work days seem more like 14 or 15 hours instead of 8. The storm last night knocked all of my plants over. Mister saw it and got them all together when he was leaving for work, and told me about it later. I’m glad he did that for me, because I would’ve been devastated if I’d seen them all knocked over lol. He found a Mustang he wants, about 5 hours from here. It doesn’t have the performance package that he wants, but he’s talked himself into being okay with that. It has everything else he wanted, including a manual transmission, except the interior is not black like he wanted, the exterior color is what he wanted. From the information he’s gathered, waiting on Ford to make the one he ordered is going to take forever, if it even happens at all, and he’d likely end up with a 2025 instead of a 2024. So today he called the guy at the dealer we went to last week or whenever to inquire about them getting the car he saw for him. Unless it sells over the weekend, he’ll likely have his Mustang next week. Guess who will probably have to drive it home lol. He learned how to drive a stick when he was in the military, but has never owned one. My first 3 cars were sticks, but it’s been years since I drove one. I am much more confident about it coming back to me, than he is about it coming back to him. I was so use to driving them that I could eat an ice cream sundae and shift gears at the same time. I told him when he first said he wanted a manual transmission that he should buy a beater to get his skills together since they weren’t the greatest to begin with, before he tried it with a brand new car. But since when has anyone listened to me, so yeah, let’s practice on a $60k car. I’m not fussing or even irritated. He’s really hung up on this car, so imma just let him do his thing.

So I guess tmobile is no longer supporting the flip phone, hers didn't break. If anyone is looking for stock to buy, I think Anheuser-Busch is a safe bet. All kinds of people are going to be teaching old men and women to use smart phones soon. Hey don’t be dissing us old folks and smart phones. Verizon quit supporting my flip phone about 3 yrs ago. My DIL said “come get your new iPhone”. and I’ll help you set it up! Fortunately I have been on iPad for 12 yrs so not totally foreign to me. I have a neighbor who went with what I call a flip phone on steroids. But it seems way more complicated than smart phone. Lots of using arrows for this and that. She asked me to get a text for her and I wandered around till I got lucky. But I know different carriers and guess her phone is android. Having said all that I’ll check back when I’m 87 and phones are just reading our minds and sending calls Willy Nilly. Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that grandma has dementia. She's started forgetting people and it's sad. My grandpa is "him" or "my husband" and my uncle Greg that died a few years ago is now Bryan. She remembers me so far, but she forgot who my other uncle who sees her all the time is.

That’s why I feel like I’ll be able to drive it. He’s the one that’s not confident in himself about it and said I’d probably have to drive it home. If I understand correctly, he knows the basics of how it works, because of military vehicles he had to learn to drive. I ASSume his concern is that those vehicles were probably different from personal vehicles. We’ve talked over the years about driving sticks, and it seems like he never learned it well enough that not rolling backwards when the light at the top of a hill turns green might be challenging for him. I’d have to ask him about all of that to make sure I’m not lying on him though. He is excited, and he rarely gets excited about anything, he rarely does anything for himself, he’s been through so much over the last couple of years with all of the stuff with his parents and then they died anyway, so I’m not going to rain on his parade.

I've got a lazy salad and cocktail well in progress. it's still shitty out, so I'm definitely sleeping upstairs tonight. One of the rare times I'm rooting forthe RS. But I also root for anyone playing the Yanks. ETA - My O's are on west coast and play at 940 our time.

I appreciate your support tonight.

You're just fine. You had no way of knowing. Plus, it just is what it is at this point. She has started being "visited" by people. She saw her mom recently and sees my grandpa at times. It's not going to be too long. Her last sibling is getting ready to enter hospice. She's the oldest and has lived the longest. I think once her sister goes, she won't be far behind.

Done for today. From the desk drawers and 2 file cabinet drawers I have filled a pretty good sized trash can. There are other things in the files that will go later, but not quite yet so will be transferred. We have a legal sized cabinet in the basement full of tax returns and contracts of properties we have bought and sold. I guess we will burn all of that, I don't want it going in the trash. I mean it wouldn't matter but I just don't want those too. I agree noone is going through our trash. It's a family company and they hardly have time to run it themselves. The dad has not been doing well and the daughter has been lifting and dumping the cans, what a job. I think they have trouble finding help but likely don't pay well.
I'm going to try and clean up odds and ends in our bedroom, kitchen, laundry room, and just these rooms. Next is DD's room, I boxed up 3 boxes in there so far, but lots to get rid of yet, and the kitty room. It won't be bad. After these I hope to go in the basement and work. When am I ever going to get the landscaping cleaned, sigh. I wanted to hire someone and hubs said he wasn't paying thousands to have it done. I said it won't cost that much, it just goes across the front of the house. He said he will mulch it, that's fine but I still have to weed and clean it all and trim stuff. He killed one shrub or maybe it died from not being watered it was so dry, but that needs replaced too. If its not to hot I can likely clean it in a day, once we mulch it, it will stay nice for quite awhile. I told hubs we need to put drip hoses on it and a timer so its watered about every 2 days so it won't die, while its up for sale.
I think he expects me to be superwoman like I used to be and I am not. I feel better tonight, ready to take a bath. The cats are fed and in, DD's bed has clean bedding. Our pill boxes are filled. More stuff in the garage for the sale.
I used a comb on Tigger outside tonight and he loved it. I don't think he can clean the area above his tail since he is so chunky, so I concentrated on that. It is like dandruff there, they don't have fleas or anything. I got handfuls of hair off him and a lot of dandruff too, he kept coming back so it must have felt good. I need to do it daily. I worked on it until I could run my hands over him petting and gobs of hair didn't come off him.
I sure hope we can sell the modular up there, that will get our bank accounts back to where I won't worry about having to get into investments further, sure don't want to. So crossing fingers.

The effects of humidity on heat illustrated: Tennesseer mentioned somewhere that the temperature is/was 98° with a "feels like" factor due to humidity of the place the devil goes to warm up when Hades is too cool for him. Here 98° feels like hot = 98°. That is admittedly too hot for my taste but at least there is no additive effect from humidity... This past Wednesday and Thursday we were under Extreme Heat warnings. While the actual high temperature both days was 99 degrees, with the humidity it felt like 119 degrees according to weather reports. Just too hot to be outdoors. Starting next Monday, it looks like every day of the week will be below our average daytime temp of 92 devrees. Showers Every day from the soon to be downgraded hurricane soon to hit coastal Texas. Showers quite welcomed. Please.

This low humidity thing really is very nice (except for the risk of wildfires of course)

My BIL has a flip phone. They did get rid of the landline. He can read a text message but he doesn't know how to send one. If you didn't do smart phones for years, it is daunting. There is so much I still need to learn about my Iphone and whatever IOS flavor of the moment I have. I finally got past 17.5 into 17.5.1. I'm noticing signs of an update and why next time I need to by higher on the food chain. (Space for the bloody IOS upgrade, roughly half the space I bought the phone with. Sigh.) I wish there was a way to opt out of some of the piggy (storage intensive stuff like lots more emoticons when I hardly know what's there now ... for example) A good dumb phone is best sometimes. I get annoyed with it because sometimes I forget the super secret conventions, like I have to know the press there in the corner to do X, because "everyone" except me etc. have known whatever it is in that corner. Huge learning curve. At least with the coffee machine (keurig like) I mostly remember that when it is in an bad state. We can hold down the button partially on the U of the name, and it will reset it. (A and I begged the tech for tricks, and thankfully he told us that.) And hopefully the coffee gods will be happy.

Also there was no heat indexing to it. Again that low humidity. I never want to see that temperature again but, just in case the temperatures get in the 90s like now,- I have that portable A/C at the ready. Life is too short to spend it suffering through heat waves

Good morning, engrossed invisipeeps, preparing for storms and the next few days. Welcome to Saturday. I hope your day provides occasion to romp and maybe frolic, too. This is fitting for a weekend in July. If the temperature exceeds 80 where you are, I hope your a/c provides relief. I got the car packed last night for today's show. Although it's raining lightly I do not believe the show will be postponed. I really hope it goes well. Yesterday's morning was gray on gray, not even foggy. So I took a picture of the surf's edge:

Watching the new Beverly Hills Cop movie. How has Eddie Murphy not aged a day in 40 years? We watched it yesterday too, and thought it was pretty good.

Today will be my busy day. Need to take trash to the d u m p (no trash pickup here), drop the kitchen stuff out to charity, and hit the grocery store. Also need to spray the driveway for weeds, but that may wait another day. And contemplating going to the fire hall for fireworks tonight.

I keep thinking they can't drag me lower. I really need to stop thinking that because it's apparently a challenge. Abby is having a tantrum because I won't take her to Hyvee. She stayed up all night again at a friend's house. Now I'm paying for it.My head hurts from stress, humidity and all the firework smoke. FML. If I go to bed it's Saturday sooner. Then Sunday sooner and then it's Monday. Our kids wake up at the same time every day in the summer: 5:30-6am. DS finally stopped doing that at about 15, he was at least a sophmore in HS before he started to be able to sleep in.. Same with DD1. They don't start watching fireworks until they are seriously in middle/high school. As it turns out the same people who give me the stink eye for being mean about fireworks also do not offer to take care of my kids on July 3-6 so that I don't have to deal with sleep deprived kids. So. I'm like the soup nazi, except for fireworks.

I'm trying to get some stuff done.
Even if the tentative new job falls through, I'm really behind. I wish it was my own fault because I was farting around.

I have a top five list to finish before 10 pedicures with teens. Celebrating end of voluntary summer school online class for bonus teen. Leaving this evening for Charlotte and Chromosome 18 conference to help chaperone my niece who is somehow already 13 yrs old. Fun aunting here I come!
