Thankful that none of my dogs have ever been afraid of fireworks. Our griffon is a weirdo - like of my DH switches hats, he barks and acts like he's a stranger for a second, he's afraid of a broom in a random corner - but both he and our lab were running around chasing a ball in the yard as our neighbors set off their huge fireworks display at 10 last night.
I'm going to go with he's a hunting dog and bred to be used to loud gunshot-type noises. Who knows.
Our holiday was good - my oldest had a softball game and then we went to a friend's house for a party- and my company gave us today off, so extra-long weekend for me!

Well crap. There's like 7 people here of 200 or so and one of those 7 is the obnoxiously noisy sasquatch that sits on the other side of my cube wall.

It's crazy. He doesn't even have to have people around him to be loud. From slurping his coffee to his 1970's clacky keyboard (he special ordered this one just BECAUSE it was extra clacky) to reading his emails out loud and laughing and pounding his desk when he talks (to himself). Currently charging up my noise cancelling headphones before so I can have them on before he calls the Chinese restaurant.
"GET ME SOME EXTRA SPICY ______ !!!!" (it's always extra spicy everyday no matter what he orders) <some desk pounding that causes my pictures to tip over>
OH YEAHHHHHH!!!!! GONNA HAVE ME SOME CHICKEN!! SOME EXTRA SPICY CHICKEN! (or whatever) <more desk pounding> Seriously, everyday.

Got in a decent amount of sleep (although in odd chunks) despite fireworks and crazy melatonin dreams. Fireworks were very light and I didn't hear a single rocket which was wonderful.
This morning I showered, made breakfast, have run 2 of my 3 loads of laundry, cleaned toilets, placed Amazon and Nespresso orders, and cleaned Nespresso machine.
Hurricane Beryl is still fiddle-farting around trying to decide who to hammer but it strongly looks like we will get heavy rain bands from her, and maybe Invest 96-L too Monday thru Wednesday of next week. And that's way better than the winds those south of us will see.

TD was right, the smoker is dead and not revivable. He has reordered a new one, which will get here next weekend. He wound up doing them on the grill, and they were excellent.
There is a long running battle here in that despite having a separate freezer, we have NO freezer space. After Wednesday, when we went to Costco for the ribs, I think he understands why. We had to stop at the grocery store on the way home from Costco, and FM had chicken wings…..buy one package, get 2 free. Next thing I know, he is throwing 3 large packages of chicken wings into the cart. We have NO freezer space for those, so he had to cook them too.
But I think he now has an idea why freezer space is so scarce. Every time we go into the store, there is one of these offerings and neither DS nor I can resist. 13-15 shrimp at $4/lb? Pork tenderloin at $2/lb? Sirloin at $3/lb?
So as a result, TD took a rack of ribs and a bunch of wings over to our neighbor who just had a shoulder replacement. He should be good for awhile.

Well it's pretty clear there is no future here. I also don't think there is any point of meditation with HR. Management seems pretty much universally in agreement about me and I met with resistance when I said I want clear benchmarks for my job. Apparently nobody else who did this position had those and they never got 4s on their reviews. Whatever. I took the feedback but I did push back hard. I said if you think I deserved a 4 fine I am not trying to wheedle out of it it is what it is for that fiscal year. But I was sure as hell not going to sit there and end up with another four next year. I said how can I know if I am moving in the right direction if I don't even know what the direction is? I said I want benchmarks so I know I am hitting what I need to hit and not assuming only to find out I am wrong. I don't fucking care that the other two who held this job "didn't need that". That does not make me a bad employee it means they didn't complain about the system whereas I have the balls to speak up about it. Plus they didn't do nearly the amount of work I am expected to do in a given day. Supposedly according to my manager I talk smack in front of customers. WTF? That is the first time I've EVER heard that. I said I want proof of that one. Then I am too negative a person. Gee I wonder why I am always fucking negative. They don't exactly do a lot to foster optimism. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/headbang.gif) I don't regret going to HR at least I said my piece with them. But there is no point in going further with it.

So you stood there and watched while something caught on fire and was burning? You sound like an upstanding citizen that I wouldn’t want as a neighbor. You talk about karma… I didn't comprehend the post in the same way. I thought Tennesseer was saying that he saw them shooting fireworks in the street not that he saw one go into the garage and start a fire. That is correct. And they are not next door neighbors. They had previously lit a firework in the street which looked like a colorful small fountain. After the firework flew into their garage, I thought they lit another fountain firework by the garage (a car in their driveway was blocking my complete view). But after I determined there were no multicolors in the fountain like the earlier one they lit, I determined something caught fire in the garage. At about that time, an adult in the home's driveway saw that it was a fire too and took action. So take your karma, taz157, and shove it.

I'm not in danger of losing my job anytime soon I at least got that out of them.
But it's clear that my future in either lab is dead in the water. I am going to make sure I get myself to a 3 because who knows when/if I'll find something else but fuck it on developing myself down here.
I am going to reach out to my squad leader and ask about what can I be given to help. Right now I've just been listening and learning because I thought I would succeed down here. I'm wrong.
Perhaps I can move into customer complaints at some point. That is the group I am in so that would count as developing in their area and make me a possible candidate.
Since that is an entirely different skill set AND I would have metrics I feel like it would be less likely my manager can sabotage me on that end.
We'll see. It'll give me something to help reestablish my sanity at least. It'd also get me some project management experience too I feel which would be a good feather.
Time to focus on outside development opportunities.
ETA: And Captain Dipshit got a 3. He got a fucking 3.
I get a 4 because I make "little mistakes but they are the same mistakes". And WTF is it that he does CONSTANTLY? According to the person who authorizes everything she's never seen someone have to re-run samples more than he does in the 5 years she's been here. He has 35 corrective actions open against him.
I know I shouldn't compare but what the flying fuck?! Gee I wonder why I am such a negative person?
If that isn't favoritism I don't know what is. You would think that many corrective actions would result in a PIP not a freaking THREE on his review!
Why am I being held to a higher standard than him? Granted a monkey could hop over the bar he's set for performance but HOW exactly is me making spelling errors rate a poorer performance than 35 corrective actions?!

My Mom use to say she didn’t need a dishwasher (machine) because she had me. The last house I lived in with her, did finally have a dishwasher. I did not have a dishwasher during the years I lived in my Grandmother’s other house. But when I bought my house, it did have a dishwasher. It died around the same time that I went broke. It was a few years before I could afford to replace it. What I learned from that time is that I don’t ever want to live without a dishwasher again if I can help it. I know now that I HATE washing dishes by hand. So much so that I make sure anything I buy for my kitchen is dishwasher safe. If it can’t go in the dishwasher, I’m not likely to buy it in the first place, and if I already own it and it can’t go in the dishwasher, I’m not likely to use it often. When the dishwasher here died, I made it very clear to Mister that it had to be replaced asap, because I wasn’t handwashing dishes for 2-5 people every day. I would only do it for the time it took to buy a new dishwasher and get it delivered. Otherwise, everybody BUT me was gon be washing dishes every day and I was still gon have the same expectations about my kitchen being clean. We bought a dishwasher as soon as I settled on the one I wanted. Amen! I'm not washing dishes by hand either. I'd rather clean toilets than wash dishes.

Can you move to a conference room ( with a door!) I don't have a laptop, so no. My headphones are really good though. Best $350 I ever spent. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) They can't stop the tables and walls from shaking when he bangs on things, but most sound is blocked out. This guy was raised by gorillas I think. He's also probably 6'6" and over 300 pounds. Big and loud.

As someone who is small and loud, he doesn't realize he's that loud. Have you told him? I always warned people when I worked in an office that I was loud. I assured them that I'm never yelling at them I'm just loud for no reason and not to hesitate to tell me when I'm doing too much because I don't know that I'm doing it but will stop when told.

Not always, sometimes they just need repainted and many people would like their own colors. Or little things the owner doesn't want to mess with. But if you get an inspection you will likely find out.

No more, why are you still trying to do something at that job? Can't you see you are done there? I thought you were taking the new one. If you don't from what they are doing I really think you will eventually be let go. That is just my opinion being outside and looking in. Even if the new one doesn't work, you can go elsewhere. Don't stay someplace where they will never let you succeed.

I slept till almost noon today. Hubs fed DD and the cats.
I started cleaning out drawers and my big desk in the office area, I want to get that done, a ton went to trash and more to the next yard sale.
Hubs cleaned out his drawers and I'm going to box that stuff, and put things out for sale. He got the truck out for sale yesterday afternoon, I think he is out deciding what to sell for his sale too.
I sat down for a few minutes and ate something, hadn't yet today. I'm tired but moving on. Not quite as tired as yesterday. Trying to get laundry done also. And I'm going to go get dressed, have not even done that today.
We got some very welcome rain yesterday and today. It was sure needed. We could use more but at least we rained some.

I have not personally, but he's been here probably 25 years and lots of people have told him he's driving them nuts. It doesn't last long... You either learn to cope or hunt out an empty cube somewhere else. My son had to sit behind him last summer and I got all kinds of "WTF?" Teams messages from him the first week or so. Welcome to the office, now you know why I'm such a bitch when I get home from work some days.

You're thinking Gira. I don't have a job lined up yet but I'm actively looking.
In the meantime I've said my piece. I went through the channels I'm supposed to go through.
It died in the water. Now we grey rock till either I find something or whatever happens.
I can only control what I can control.
But I'm going to vent just like everyone else here does. I can't just totally shove it down. I have to release. I'm going to do it here or with DH.

We got a sudden thunderstorm yesterday afternoon, so the cat got to hide under the couch a little early. He had just come back out when the fireworks started next door, and had to turn back around and crawl back under the couch. We were really thankful for the rain though, our yard is half dead because it has been so hot and dry.
Our previous house was built in 1940 and there was no dishwasher in the tiny kitchen. After we had lived there for a few years, DH got us a free dishwasher from work. It really hurt to lose the cabinets that the dishwasher replaced, but it was well worth it.
DH's employer does a lot of remodeling for the wealthy. There is a pattern where they will buy an expensive house and have it gutted so they can remodel it according to their tastes. Most of them set up professional level kitchens that they never use, which are then gutted and replaced by the next homeowner. The dishwasher we were given had never been used and the paperwork for the original purchase was still inside of it when it was gutted from the house.

I haven't gotten all the way through the laundry, but I'll get enough done today that I'll be alright. I was pleasantly surprised to find clean sheets for the guest bed, folded on top of the dryer. so even if I don't get the set that's ON the bed now all the way through the cycle, I can put the clean stuff on there for LD to sleep on. I do still want to get my bedding done, since it's likely with the weather today that there won't be fireworks tonight I can sleep in my own bed tonight. I'm currently parked on the couch with Wimbledon on tv, and I'm about to book birthday long weekend airfare to Tampa. staying with friends, and flights on points. I can do the round trip for just like 15-16k points. that's crazy! no idea what all we will do all weekend, but Mr S is already planning the menu haha. I was just chatting with Mrs S to confirm what flight times made the most sense, and she said Mr is beyond excited that I'm finally getting down there. it's been at least since before COVID that I've seen him, and that's just far too long. ETA - 15,900 points and all of $5.60 for one of the flights. I had another $5.60 in the travel bank to cover the other. lol.... that's the universe telling me to practice some self-care and spend time with loved ones.

You're right NoMore, I did mean her. Old age will getcha'
I'm balancing too many balls right now. Hubs is out working on garages and its hot out there. I need to go and see what he is doing. He needs a break anyway.
Got my dresser cleaned out a big pile of items to go.
We are going to pull the stuff out of the store rooms and let people go down there and get stuff too. No point in moving it 2 or 3 times. Will put it in the main room and shut off the other doors. I hope this is the last push I have to do.
We can't get boxes for our grandfather clocks are going to have to make them. Oh, we can buy them, the seller said the shipping to us would cost hundreds so we cancelled them. Will have to make some.

Now I know why dry cleaning tablecloths is expensive.
I bought an absolutely gorgeous tablecloth and napkins from a little store outside of Lisbon last year. Broke it out last weekend for the dinner we did. The tablecloth and napkins have been sitting on the dryer the last week. I treated every spot on the napkins and tablecloth. They went into the washer, with a soak cycle first so now on the last rinse and spin. I need to hang it outside to dry, it’s linen and cotton. There will be an iron involved before it gets used again.
There’s something to be said for plastic placemats and paper napkins! Unfortunately, doesn’t work with Royal Dalton China and sterling flatware.

Well, I was going to go to Sam's Club after work, but my neighbors twisted my arm into going to a fish fry at he bar instead. Sam's can wait until tomorrow. It's probably just going to be raining all day anyhow.
Also trying to decide if I should cash in some of my stocks before the market closes today since they're at an all time high.
