Happy 4th of July everyone!
We had a preliminary spattering of fireworks last night but tonight's the big show obviously. Theoretically fireworks are illegal here but the authorities publicly acknowledged they can't do a thing about them. Tonight is just a warm-up for New Years which will be epic again, especially in my neighborhood.

I’ve just woken up, not even rolled over. In that state, here are the two choices gira has: 1) she can take this new job, or 2) I will round house kick her to the head
I’m still in Vancouver, BC This is our last full day here.

well, I'm up and moving around. stiffly, though. this is going to be a very long weekend if I'm downstairs every night. I think I might go check out the pool at the Y a little later, soak and swim some. the pups will be alright in the house for a couple hours. but first? coffee. and some house cleaning.

Good morning, insightful invisipeeps, cheering for giramomma while preparing for your own adventures. Welcome to Thursday, the 4th of July the world over. I hope this day is not painful for your pets but offers tremendous picnic fare including ice cream, of course. We were very rudely awakened at about midnight by the smoke detector in the bedroom blaring. One was also triggered in the basement. Have no idea what it's about but they have gone off twice more in the hours since. I was thinking maybe low battery but the one in the basement is quite new; I just placed it when our hot water tank was replaced last year. Can't reach the one in the bedroom. That room has a cathedral ceiling so the detector is maybe 14' off the ground. I do not have an extension ladder. Not sure what to do. We can't do nothing, obviously. And it just may possibly be that they're detecting something that's triggering the alarms. I wish it were not a holiday. Should I call the fire department? Or what? Aargh. Poor Franklin the Dog just wants to get away from the noise. In the meantime I've made a key lime pie for today's festivities and will bake a peach bundt cake, too. DSis is providing hamburgers, hotdogs, potato and regular salad. YDB is bringing the shrimp. It will be good. Just need some sangria. The actual sunrise yesterday was not terribly interesting but its prelude was beautiful, ethereal in pastel colors: Is there a non-emergency line you could call?

Oh no! I'm so sorry. What happened? Right now I'm trying to explain to my 18 year old cat why he has to take his thyroid medicine and not to spit his pills out. I'm finding pills all over the house. He's not listening. We had to put our almost 17 year old siamese down last Wed.

Looking at nearby getaways that are "handicap" friendly for DH. Needs to be close to home due to his doctor and PT appointments, but I need some on the water time for my soul. River, lake, ocean doesn't matter. Though ocean would be a bit far with his appointments. Mostly looking at riverfront.

I have a Nespresso Vertuo coffee maker. The pods are not sold in any grocery store I've seen around here (so I order them from Nespresso) but I found that Target sells Starbucks coffee in the pods. So I'm enjoying a nice Starbucks Colombian coffee that cost me about $1 to make. And I didn't have to leave the house to get it. A good start to the day.

giramomma, you are just radiating excitement about this new job. I'm so glad to see it. I agree with everyone who says to take the job despite the salary decrease. Money can't buy happiness, as they say. weltz, I might have missed it. Do you have a doctor's appointment to follow up on your lung issue? countrygirl2, I might have missed this as well: when is closing, and moving day? Will you put your place on the market when it's empty? I'm so excited for you as well. I know you won't have room for your stockpile at the new place, but you will also be closer to shopping and can drive more easily to get what you need. So no need to have a big stockpile. It's amazing how much less stuff we can be happy with.

DH is on my last nerve this morning. I’m sure it’s a me problem, but this man does.not.stop.talking. His sleep has been wonky this week bc he got a tooth pulled AND had a precancerous area cut off the top of his head. So he’s in pain and not sleeping well. But man, I wish he would just stop talking AT me first thing in the morning. I know he’s in pain, and I’m sympathetic to that, but the nonstop whining and talking just to hear his own voice is going to drive me up a wall.
im leaving in a bit to go workout, and i might just have to stop and wander target quietly for an hour afterwards, lol.

I need to get up and make potato salad to take to my parents house later. I'm not looking forward to getting up.
I've also informed the girls that they are on a budget this year for fireworks.

I just have a basic little 4c Black and Decker coffee pot, that I usually brew straight into a mug. but, I buy Cafe du Monde ground coffee and that's the only thing I put through it. so delish.

I made potato salad and beans yesterday. Ribs are on the smoker and a peach cobbler is getting ready to go in the oven. Other than that, just planning on lazing around most of the day.

I don't know what weather forecast I was looking at yesterday that said today was going to be nice because it's currently a thunderstorm and doesn't look like the rain is going away anytime soon. I should have mowed last night...

Flamingo - you could borrow a trick from my teens and just stick an earbud in your ear on the opposite side of DH. I've learned to start conversations with them by saying let me see both your ears pls.

Gira - I'm team new job all the way. You'll figure out the income loss and it's <<<< your health and happiness.
Once new job dust is settled, we're all gonna need a chance to weigh in on you raiding your Roth to payoff house though. Fair warning young lady!

I think you'd be unhappy with that kitchen. I don't cook much and it's not enough counter space for me.

980 square feet above ground. I think that may be smaller than you're looking for.

Last cruise, I brought my own pods as the ship supplies a light roast and I prefer dark. Luckily, I have found these pods in the local Fred Meyer. If I was going to get rid of our French press, I’d get one of these. It makes much better coffee.

I did some work again. I went through upper kitchen cabinets. I filled 4 trash bags to be dumped. 2 boxes of spices and items for cooking to be shipped. 3 boxes of food and items to go to sale or blessing box, some from my pantry. I'm making sure the top shelves are cleaned out. I'm putting the items I'm going to use for cooking the next few days in one spot. I'm cleaning inside as I am going so I don't have to go back and do that. A lot more stuff is going to go, that's for sure. Hubs said I have plenty of time,no I don't We have 2 more docs appointments and a hair appointment that will eat up time. And a sale will eat a day or two plus prep time. It will speed b I do not believe you can ship these. Before the movers came, I had a coworker come into my apartment and take everything he wanted out of the freezer, all my spices and whatever canned goods he wanted. I also had him take all cleaning supplies and laundry detergent, movers won’t ship these either. He left the dregs of laundry soap so we could wash clothes and dishwashing soap. I had a cleaning service come in and clean after so didn’t need the supplies. Candles can’t be shipped either.

That's pretty low down on the list of things to do. That's if we get desperate or something. I'm also not too excited. Trading in one asset for another is different than raiding my roth for hookers and blow. Honestly, I'll ask DS to contribute before then. You should have seen the look on his face when I said $500. I was like, well, you know, you still would be saving 1.5K a month. And if you want to save more, you could, cut back on the magic cards. I was like, come on, dude. When you move out it's going to be a lot worse. I might just start charging him something now, so he gets used to having less money. He doesn't have a ton of expenses: car insurance, gas, clothing, and his cell phone. All that doesn't amount to more than $300 a month. He did buy some tools for a while. Work bought him some tools and a toolbox that locks. He did buy himself a new cell phone (he had his for about 4 years, and it was an newer, but still older model). His work boots are expensive, but he'll only go through two pairs a year. That's still only a yearly $300 cost.

Nope. Cramped rooms. What's up with as many bedrooms as they can get away with? 1645sft is a nice size for a 3 BR house provided the layout is good. This one feels so, well as I said before, cramped.

Cute on the outside, but there is less counter space in that kitchen than my place in KY. 4-5 BR and 1600 sq ft? Very small rooms.

I did warn the older kids that I will be stressed about money, and it may come out in ways that I don't mean or intend.
I informed them that they can ignore it, and suggested how they also might respond in way that's suitable to their personality and will create some giggles.
For DS, it's using the middle finger.
For DD1, it's saying "Jesus, mo-ther."
