I'm so sorry, weltz . My BIL is currently reaping the harvest of all of his poor eating habits for many, many years. Like he's literally in and out of the hospital every month. I wish I knew your DS so I could try to talk some sense into him, but I know there's just no talking to some men, until they reach the point that even good medical care can't help them. If even warning him that dying is a poor option, you just can't reach them, and they have to own their own life choices. Just a quick thought, but does he like drinking water, just plain water? That can make a difference when it comes to constipation. Beats the heck out of surgery if he gets "stopped up". He drinks water, but even he admits he doesn't drink enough of it. The crap he eats plays a much more significant role in this. The fiber and roughage in food moves things along, as it were. The stuff he eats, like just pizza and hot dogs, just sits in the gut like a leaden lump and doesn't go anywhere. It just becomes more and more toxic. He won't even take the Fiber Gummies. It's breaking my heart. I'm 74 and I'll probably live longer than him. I don't know how or why he became like this. I was never the Food Gestapo when he was growing up, as in "You're not leaving the table until you eat all you peas, Mister." If he didn't like something, I always gave him choices. Even so, he would throw the apples I packed for his school lunches down the sewer on his way to school, so I wouldn't find them. At this point, it's become a battle of wills, and he's determined to 'Win". Death isn't winning. So much of what both of you say sounds like my DH. I have come to the conclusion that you cannot teach 'em after a certain time, if at all. You can lead by example, but there's no force on earth that can change anyone who is so stubbornly insistent on doing it their own way, even when the adverse consequences are known. I try and hide the healthy stuff in other things to fool him a bit (vegetables on pizza, oatmeal in muffins and cookies, fruit in pancakes) but I know it's like fighting the tide.

Is there some secret to mincing/chopping garlic that will keep it from sticking to the knife? I suck at chopping garlic in general but mincing is a giant pain when I have to stop every chop to peel it off the knife.

Use another knife or fork to scrape the garlic off your cutting knife?

Recovering from a long day yesterday.
Ended up going to Seattle for a graduation and spending until about 8 Pm in different areas of Seattle - we hit the piers for Ivars we than ended up in Freemont and I finally saw in person the Freemont Troll. Spent time at the Freemont Street Festival until I headed back home. Got back almost at 11 PM. Had some good talks, lots of walking and listened to some interesting music. One guitarist went from riffing on his guitar to taking his shirt off and jamming out on a flute!

Lots of things to do and places to see here, but for next time (or for anyone you tell), there is only one "E" in Fremont.

I decided to take the sleeves off a vintage dress that I love but been going nuts trying to style it so I don't look like a little old lady.
It looks much better without sleeves. I added a wide white belt to match the stripes and give me a figure.
It looks really cute now. I can't wait to wear it out.

I really do not understand who thinks pre-recorded interviews are the way to go.
It is not convenient/easy for me. No matter how many times you try to tell me that in your automated messaging.
I have to record in a room with a door on it. Which limits me to bathrooms or bedrooms.
The software does not provide backgrounds or a way to blur out what's behind you. It is 2024. I think that should be a given.
I know we're a little looser after covid, but doing the interview on the toilet, with my towel bars in the background is just a little ick.
Thankfully, we can arrange our bedroom to give me a blank wall.
Recording in my bedroom, though, seems really evasive. And when did re-arranging furniture in my own home become a requirement for a job interview?
The first question, before even the interview questions was the "what is your expected salary" question. I don't know. I know nothing about the job. All I could do was say salary is negotiable and I have some information on what to expect for pay.

The salt will also keep it from flying around.

Trader joes has mozarella in a herb oil and that is what I use for the salad dressing for pasta salad. It has a nice kick to it that goes well with the pasta.

I don't think you will ever regret paying off a house. In most communities prices are rising on housing. If you sell that is cash in your pocket and married you can make $250k profit before any tax is owed. I would do it first also.
Also meet the match in your 401k, but be careful going over. We are taking out $100k and paying $20k federal and $3300 tax for taxes, it is a requirement. So you really don't have the money you think you do. First time we have taken a chunk out, normally just RMD. I'm hoping we get some of it back, but who knows?
I want to get our house sales done before the election, if Joe gets back in I think we will be ok. If the other one does, I look for the economy for working folks and retirees to tank. If he does some of the crap he is talking about, that was part of what caused the great depression to get worse and continue. So we are trying to anticipate. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worse also.
I was so tired I couldn't crawl out of bed till noon. I'm cleaning the shed, partly because I don't have to go up and down stairs. I have all kinds of things out of it to sell. But I'm also going down and bringing stuff up. I don't know how good a sale will go over out here. Guess we will find out. Wish hubs had got the truck up here. But think he is going to do garage and tool sales as one separate sale from the house. I figure 3 sales, each 2 weeks apart. He is also hauling off a bunch of old metal stuff and selling it at the recycle place, he had been intending to do that.
I don't know who is picking all this stuff up at the road, but I sure appreciate it. Things someone can likely use but I can't sell. Ok, back at it.
Tomorrow morning dental cleanings, man will that feel good, we are past due.
Next day cats get their shots up to date, so that's good too. I will have to get a certificate for Smoke to fly and get him some gabapentin to calm him, and hope I can get it down him. He will have to fly under the seat and I'mm afraid he will howl all the way. Hubs will take Tigger on one of his trips out, he is easier to handle. He wanted me to take him too, but I think he is to fat to fit under the seat very comfortably. And one is enough.
Ok, back at it till I get to pooped to do anything else.

I'm not chopping garlic. Especially as much as I use. I don't care if others judge my jarlic.

Sick day today. I got dehydrated yesterday and didn't make up for it enough, so today felt like I had a bad hangover without drinking any alcohol. I've been forcing liquids including stuff with electrolytes so feel better, but not all better. I am weary. Next time I'm outside all day, I drink water and electrolyte drinks every hour.

For minced garlic in a jar, how long is it ok in the refrigerator? Or whole peeled cloves?

For minced garlic in a jar, how long is it ok in the refrigerator? Or whole peeled cloves? I use ~3 of those huge jars of minced garlic/ year so I keep them for about 4 month. They have neither smelled "off" nor have I ever gotten sick from using them. They are used up by their use by date but I believe that is meant to be for a never opened jar As I said I have never gotten sick from the garlic I used

There is not a chance in hell that my obit will read "she died of a vampire bite" I used to use jarred garlic for convenience when my kids were little. As DD1 started doing her own cooking in college she convinced me to switch to fresh garlic. The jarred garlic tastes diluted compared to fresh. I am not sure I will ever steer away from fresh again.

I also keep a jar of garlic around for when I run out of fresh, or just don't feel like dealing with it.
They are starting to get some containment on the fires near me. Full time residents can go back starting tomorrow, but there is no power. The FBI is also involved in the investigation as to how the fire started, so there must be some suspicion of arson. Two people died and 1000 homes were lost.

One of the neighbors came by, he visited almost an hour. Well I needed a break so that was ok. He said his daughter was interested in our house but he said she couldn't afford it. Asked me about what it will sell for but I said between $400 to $500k, he said he thinks it will too. And if he said once he said 5 times, he hates to see us move. Hubs has helped all kinds of people in this community and is well liked. I told him it was partly because of DD but also with his cancer as we don't know where that will go yet. People understand but its going to kill hubs I fear.
I wish he would not push himself so hard, but I think he would rather fall over dead then suffer for years. I am so worried about him. He called today and is doing fine. I just hope we get nice neighbors up there and don't have to deal with old codgers.
I need to carry stuff out there all week. It rained some last night so glad I had nothing out. Just having the sale from 10AM to 4PM. That's long enough if people want to come.

Hope you feel better soon. I learned my lesson a few years ago when I refused to pay $6 for a bottle of water when I took the kids to an amusement park. The headache started before I got home and it took me 3 days to bounce back.

I left jarred garlic in the past once I realized the difference in fresh, but I'd never think to judge anyone on their food choices.
I especially do not get any people get so riled up about the level of doneness that other people like their steaks. Mind your business.

Was your offer not accepted on the other house? I don't know. I asked my realtor this afternoon if I should assume that I didn't get it since we hadn't heard anything. She called the seller's agent and she said they hadn't decided yet. I'll check back tomorrow.
