Good morning, illustrious invisipeeps, engaging children of all ages in your lives. Welcome to Monday, prelude to a heat wave that will commence after today. I hope your day is comfortably clement and free of conflicts, but offers moments of zen and pure joy. Today I must get the house straightened out. We have a very busy period before us and I'll need to be organized. Also, since I made a half German chocolate cake yesterday I need to plan on making another half tomorrow by popular demand. This weekend DH and I are going on an artists' trip to a nearby island. I'll do plein air painting and DH will take photographs. I haven't painted a picture in about 10 years. Need to get my supplies ready for the excursion. The weekends after this next have shows to ready for. And, I need to notify all past clients of the change in my web site address. The previous one now gives a security error message. It's nice to be emerging from the bout of depression. I almost feel coherent! Yesterday was a lovely sunrise but since there were no clouds it wasn't particularly interesting. I did catch a tiny dinosaur, a Great Blue heron, on the jetty before sunrise: ![Great Blue heron on jetty](https://i.imgur.com/m6BNwlj.jpeg)

TD made homemade egg McMuffins this morning. McDonald’s needs lessons, it’s amazing the difference a little Dijon and a smear of horseradish makes. So I just finished cleaning up the kitchen and put the dishwasher on. Grilled pork tenderloin, roasted baby potatoes and fresh asparagus for dinner tonight. It’s a chilly, icky, rainy day out today. Harriet had to be dragged out for her walk. Now she’s zonked out on her bed with Sheldon. None of us are going any place soon. Hard to believe it’s mid June. The last 12 hours, I just ordered 7 dresses for my nieces formal wedding. At least 6 of them are getting returned. My AmEx got whiplash! We had bagels with hot smoked cold salmon yesterday. DD1 lives in Seattle and has been sending us salmon in gift boxes over the last year.

There's a job I need to apply for. The application is due tomorrow.
The qualifications are so broad, I don't know what to do with them.

Kicking off the first week of summer camp. Made it through Fathers Day ok yesterday, although DS was in rare form ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/facepalm.gif) I’m also apparently still pissed at MiL for skipping DS’ graduation: showed FIL a pic of it since he’d wondered about how DS’ height compared to the rest of his class, did not offer to show MiL. FIL gets a pass bc even getting into his wheelchair is a major production. My parents with all their flaws would never, ever have missed a grandkid graduation that was only a mile away. Today is dating anniversary, which is more meaningful to us than the wedding date since the wedding was just legally acknowledging the fait accompli. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/heart.png) Babysitter arranged to handle evening and bedtime so we can go out to dinner. DH wished me a happy anniversary this morning, after a “wait what are you talking about why do we need to go out to dinner” moment yesterday. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/muhaha.png) They can be taught, at least some of them. Additional DH bday presents ordered and should get here in time to be schlepped along for the trip. We are staying nowhere close to a grocery store so I’ll have to figure out schlepping a cake too. For the first time in a while I feel able to pay attention to work bc I don’t have a million other higher priority claims on my attention. End of the gauntlet is in sight. (Although it would be great if they’d put the driveway back in.)

I just cannot wake up this morning. The only thing keeping me from falling asleep at my desk is the office is about -10 degrees.

Well, Hello MJ2.0! Cover letter is drafted and annotated against the job requirements. I will let it simmer, and then finalize.

Starting the day. Three weeks of staying home / not working for me. Ten of those days will be out of town. DH has another end of year colleague gathering this evening. I’m making a tortellini salad for that one. It means I need go to Costco this morning though.

Rain, rain go away. Our state-wide drought is over, and still we're getting rain. All week long, so now we have to be concerned with flooded roads.

OK. I'm pretty happy with it. i just need the read-out loud, and then I can submit.
This is one of the few I didn't submit 5 minutes before the process closes.
And I appreciate you all letting me check in at every stage. I know my updates are like watching paint dry, but it helps me.
So, yay for this space.

Last night was not a good night for sleep. There will be sleeping today.
I got my chai and the regular barista asked how I was doing. She can see how bad my nose looks and she showed concern. Yes, it is shockingly ugly.
I just addressed a birthday card to who I have always considered my oldest cousin. She will be 90 on Friday. She is the oldest of my mom's full siblings. The ones older than her are all from half siblings and all are deceased. Last time I talked to her, she was quite excited to be turning 90.

DH took a bike ride before breakfast and then we worked together to pay the bills. I put my laundry away and repackaged the proteins for the freezer. I'm so grateful that DH keeps the knives sharp because it makes it much easier to trim off fat and divide meats.
The flooding rains should be over by Friday so we're going to make a trek to the huge Mediterranean grocery in West Houston. We haven't done that since Covid so it will be a lot of fun. They have a 2-story conveyor belt for producing fresh pita bread and carry an incredible variety of foods from every country around the Mediterranean. It's around 7 miles from us, or about 30 minutes in Houston traffic.

I just caved and put the A/C back on. I'd turned it off last night in favor of opening my bedroom window to sleep. it was brisk when we got back from the concert. I've got the afternoon off today, I'm about to hop in the shower before my appointment at 3pm to follow up on this busted foot. it's a little sore today, from all the walking around yesterday. I wasn't driving at all, but it was still a bunch of walking around the venue. in other news - anyone interested in a ticket to Hootie and the Blowfish, Collective Soul, Edwin McCain, and BNL at Fenway on Friday? I don't see any reasonable chance that I can get there.

I watched a guy on FB who's sort of a life coach or something. He said two things that, while not new, really spoke to me. First, he talked about deciding whether to engage with someone and he said, "Just because they are putting garbage out there does not mean you need to go dig through it - choose wisely." Next, he said it's critical to learn to say no without offering an explanation because a certain type of person will just attack any justification you offer.
I'm writing both of these things on my inner arm with a fine-point Sharpie!

DH and I removed a medicine cabinet and sconce lighting from our basement bathroom. He then put in a new electrical box for the light fixture we bought. I have been patching the sheetrock and have two coats of mud on the wall. I went and picked up the sink cabinets, so we are getting close to putting this bathroom back together. The new floor has been down for almost two months. The room has already been painted two coats, so just need to touch up where the repairs have been made. I plan to order a quartz countertop with an undermount sink once we get the cabinets set.
This bathroom was the last blast of 1977 decorating left in our house. I did leave the harvest gold fiberglass shower in place. Future generations need to learn from past mistakes.
It took almost 10 years to get all the updating done in this house. The only remaining change I really desire in this house is to add main floor laundry.

I’m sitting outside with Newbie, ignoring all the should I should probably be doing inside the house instead. But it’s my day off work and I want to sit outside, so that’s what I’m doing. Anyway, I heard something, looked up, and I could see heavy rain in the distance. I told Newbie “come on” and we hurried inside the garage. A fraction of a second after she got inside the garage, it started pouring down. It was kind of cool that I heard the rain and saw it coming, right before it got to us. It only rained for less than 10 minutes, and now it’s super humid again. This is the second time it’s rained today, this time was heavier than the first time, but it didn’t last long either time. I think it was enough for the day for my plants though, which is great. The only time I get excited about rain is when I’ve planted stuff outside, because rainwater seems to work wonders for them, that what comes out of my faucets just can’t compare to. The forecast says it will rain again in about 2 hours. Then there is no more rain in the forecast for the next 10 days. Sigh.

We are more than mildly excited to discover a new Lebanese bakery not to far from us. Our fav closed last year when the founders retired and we've been missing them a lot. The new place has a wonderful menu with some items that are new to us (and we fell in love with Lebanese food in the mid-90's). They have green and black teas with your choice of mint or cardamon, plus several coffee selections. We'll check them out this weekend I think.

We have so much stuff we want to bring to son I don't know what they will do with it. He and gramps need to get the garage done. Son is traveling this week, has to go to Vegas, talk about hot!!
Hubs said he has been finishing up putting lines and stuff back on the tractor and its 95, he sent a picture and he looks drained, poor guy.
A guy we know that did the ceilings in our house has information about someone moving to Indiana looking for a house and may be interested in ours. So he told hubs to contact him. That would be too easy for sure. We shall see and the manager here asked me to be sure and contact her about our other house in Indiana.
The realtor came today, going to check but thinks we may get about $120k for this. Would be great if we can but will take less if a fast sale. I don't want to get into more investments.
So things are kind of fast and furious. We are leaving at 5:30 tonight, maybe its early but traffic can be awful at Seatac.
Sounds like I'm going back to an oven and a drought.
