I cleaned both sides of the sliding door to our rear deck, and replaced the anti-strike clings so my birdies don't fly into it. We went to a travel club luncheon but it was blah, too noisy for any conversation and hotter than hades in the area where the group was seated. Our AC system ran last night and is running non-stop today, it's super humid too. We had our portfolio review with our advisor and he recommended selling about 1/2 of my beloved Apple and I had to agree. I learned long ago to date a stock and enjoy the relationship, but don't marry it . He said they are predicting 1 rate cut late this year and 3 next year so we're stashing some $$ in CD's while the earnings are good.

The work fire I've been waiting for all week finally dropped today. Its doable just time consuming and other people who want things right away have to wait a bit. I'm so tired.
Tonight's music lesson night with lots of driving but I feel like I'm going to sneak in a nap too which is dangerous but necessary.

I've made up with Chase. The past 4 paychecks have all hit the account on time and in the past week $1936 in cash rewards have hit my accounts. That will cover the $550 balance on Carrot's band trip, fixing the window, the new radiator, and probably all the new lights and locks I have yet to pick out. How does this promotion work? I swear you're the queen of finding free money.

Meeting was okay. As a toastmaster I cringe at the number um's I heard. Need log into my toastmaster's meeting.
As I was walking out the door the owner asked for invoices to be processed tomorrow. Really wait until 5:15 (15 minutes past quitting time) to ask for the checks. Hoping my boss will take care of getting the checks cut. 3 of 5 bookkeepers are off tomorrow.

Today has been stacked with the list of things I got done mostly outside.
I am taking a break and grabbing a piece of quiche for a late lunch.
I might try and do some more later this evening but after weeding, spraying vinegar to kill other weeds and mowing the side yard I am just beat up and ready for a break. Also, slightly got some sun so I am trying to stay inside for a bit.

I feel for people that life pulls them down. I had problems with that over my DD for years. Now I'm worried hubs will get really down when we move and he doesn't have things to occupy him like he does now. And at least he has some people he knows and can talk to. I'm afraid he will sit down and through boredom give up. Worry about me too. But like he says we just don't have much choice and if we wait till we are older, likely not able to do the move without considerable help. Also concerned as to what his cancer status will be. I am hopeful, just have to wait and see. Ners, wish you well.. I think your husband will only be as bored and sedentary as he chooses to be. From what you have shared here he has so many talents and a compassionate heart. He's skilled in operating and maintaining farm equipment-every community garden needs someone to keep their tractors, tillers, etc. running so they can provide healthy veggies and fruits for those who otherwise won't have them. He's incredibly handy with everything around a house-many communities seek talented handymen to help low-income seniors and disabled with simple repairs, a leaking faucet, running toilet, wobbly doorknob, that they can't fix themselves or afford to hire done. He's an experienced election worker and every jurisdiction in the country is seeking help from registrars to election judges to poll watchers. He's a veteran and many communities need someone to drive disabled vets to their medical appointments. There are so many ways a caring and talented individual like your husband can help those around him.

I swear you're the queen of finding free money. It was multiple things that all just hit at once. There was the open the checking and savings and deposit 15K for 90 days for $900 (although I set up the deposits so it really ended up only having to be there for 60 days) and then I opened a Chase Ink business card that had a $900 sign on bonus after spending 6K (home/car insurance and property taxes took care of that and then some), plus the 1.5% cash back on all I had put on the card the past few months.
I was pulling my hair out for a week or so with the bank one. Now I get to deal with closing everything, but I'm in no hurry.

So, I got a wild hair up my ass to call another contractor. This time for an estimate for a sump pump (and any other ideas he might have). I've avoided this even though I need one because there is no good place to run the pumped water out. The water comes in the house from the southside of the house, but would need to be pumped out the northside of the house which mean running pipe through the entire length of a finished basement...impractical and probably super expensive. The part of the basement that is unfinished storage/utility room has only cement steps on the other side so can't go through that either.
Anyhow, I called them this afternoon and they're coming out already tomorrow, so now...I NEED TO CLEAN MY HOUSE! At least the clutter in the basement so they can get around and see the walls well.

Today's a day for adulting stickers - I made dinner! *instead of buying take out. It really is impressive. At least to me. I guess we'll see if anyone eats it.

Dealing with the problems found when the siding came off. We knew there would be some, but it's still stressful! It's an old house, so something always comes up. Sigh.

Once a year, the city sends fire inspectors, to check if the smoke and heat detectors are working, and to make sure the fire escapes aren't blocked. I always hated that, because they show up at the ass-crack of dawn. I hate going to bed early and waking up that early and trying to make myself look presentable. There were notices everywhere that they were coming Thursday morning....today. I called the super last night and asked if he stays with them during the inspections. Yes, of course. 'In that case, you can unlock my front door and stay with them. Please don't wake me up.'
They were here, and quiet as church mice. They didn't wake me up. I only knew they came because they left the hallway light on.

Got hubs to the airport. Not a bad drive and I made it home in record time. Well drove 75 most of the way along with some of it he semis. Stopped and got hubs truck washed, I need to clean the inside of it. Tomorrow going to our Endo doc so will get mine washed. Mine is still loaded with clothes, another box of fabric, and more books. I'm going to add more books tomorrow and give them to Goodwill.
I will try to catch the free store open. I'm not sure there are as many volunteers as there was before the tornado. And I know one had to have surgery on her arm, she might be paid, I don't know. I heard they weren't accepting more clothing. But I do have the neighbors church that will accept those. I will purge again. I told hubs we may be able to get all DD and my clothing in our 2 closets and our dresser drawers when we are done. The fall clothing may be packed away. I am really purging clothing, very nice stuff.
I pulled a few weeds from the landscaping. Hubs and I went over the plants I want him to take out. Most are some type of lily that have to be cut back and raked out in the fall. I told him plant them somewhere else. He can also take a couple of shrubs out if he wants to.I will mark them. We need for that to be pretty and easy care for the remainder of our time here and for others to care for.
While he is gone, want to weed. Get rid of more books Get rid and also pack things I want to keep and fabric.
Hubs said these bags I'm getting will work well, they can be packed around furniture. Everytime we move things gets scratched.
We are thinking of getting rid of my 3/4 chair and divan, DIL wants it but she doesn't have room unless they get rid of something it is in Washington. Will replace it with my good recliner. Will sell or give away the table and chairs we have up there and take this one, maybe the 2 cabinets, will have to be seen. He will likely take a load of our things that we can fit in, but it can't be much. There isn't anything I can take from our kitchen here there is hardly room for the things I have there now. So most everything we keep will have to be stored at the inlaws house until we buy a home, if we can.
I have to transfer the one car insurance up there, didn't think about it and already paid it so will need to take care of that when I get up there. And have to check on DD's Medicaid when up there this time.
Just so much to do in moving. Hub is going to price a UHaul or Budget truck and see what it costs and he has a big trailer he can pull behind it. Like he said we have to move this fall before it snows at the passes or want till spring when they thaw. I bet we can't make it this year. But we are moving along a little faster. Right now hinges on DD's healthcare.
DD and I nibbled on some McD's on the way up, yuck. I wanted to stop for dinner, I want prime rib again, that is sooo good. But she wasn't hungry so we didn't. I bought some hot wings and ate 3 and some grapes, so I'm full. I will feed her something before bed.I have more wings, some Mac salad and Cole slaw for her. Her favorite foods. She also likes the mushrooms but they had already cleaned off the hot foods in the deli when we came by.
I may wash some more fabric tonight, but I will definitely bring up some more books, I cleared off a shelf down there and got rid of a bunch of cookbooks up here.

I was really glad I didn't have a pet to worry about the sound bothering them, at the time.

Grandson will be so glad to see grandpa. I know he will want to go to the airport with son, but it will be late and he has to be up early. If he can't he will be upset. But at least he will get the weekend and evenings with him. I said when we move up there he will be living at our house. Hubs said yes, I can see that. I wish he could have come down here this summer, he likes that.
Our small city has more house builders coming in. They are investing $14 million in some townhomes just off the town square and 40 more houses. They are building 40 new houses now and have built a ton of duplexes in town. I think those are for seniors. They have condemned and torn down a ton of houses and now are building new on the sites. They are really adding to the tax base here. I told hubs if we ever come back the housing will be high here. The south side of town was destroyed by the tornado last year and all new homes are going up in there. It was sort of the slum of the city. Some aren't being rebuilt, I'm guessing no insurance or not enough. A brand new big VFW, the tornado got it too. The free store was an older nice building, its all new but not quite as big. So we really have a lot of building going on. They just finished a new county jail and now the hospital is building on a whole new section with additional doctors offices. They have added 3 orthopedic surgeons and a podiatrist. The pain management doc is expanding now too because they could not accommodate all the old folks. I have noticed they have weeded out a lot of the younger people seeking drugs. They said for a time that was a real problem. Now if we could just get some retail shops. We have tons of restaurants, but need some hard goods store. Oh we also as of last fall have a new hardware store, and ACE hardware, the owner has another one in a small town. So we did get one.
There is also some kind of gas generation plant coming in north of our town, says 350 during construction and 25 permanent jobs. Not a lot but each one adding jobs helps. This is a rural area with weak environmental regs so I think that is contributing these things coming in.

Really kicking myself for using duct tape to secure plastic up where my window was removed. It ripped all the paint off the siding, which is fine, but it also left a bunch of adhesive on the vinyl window frame. I've tried nail polish remover, WD40, warm soapy water, the scraper I use for cleaning the glass stove top. It still looks like crap. Plus I have to hang out of second story window the entire time I'm working on it. I was hoping to get the window back in tonight, but time got away from me and I didn't call anyone to help, now it's almost dark.

Depends on the type of adhesive, what works best. Good luck!

Just let it sit for a few minutes and it will come right off.

That will eat the goo off but also destroy anything in close range too like caulk

Either I used it all and forgot or it's just lost in the disaster like everything else. I never used the spray gel before, but it sounds a lot better if it clings and I can just let it work for awhile.

I've had good luck with Goo Gone and also just plain vegetable oil. Wipe it on, let it sit for a few minutes, and wipe it off. Never tried it to remove duct tape adhesive, but you never know.

You have a riding mower, do you maybe have a little gasoline you can put on a paper towel and try?

In Kobe, just returning from an excursion. I had hoped we might be here overnight. If so, I had the idea to grab a cab and go get some real Kobe beef. I have had it before, but didn’t feel like it was any different from a prime cut of beef. It makes me wonder if it was something being by passed off as Kobe beef. All on board time is 7, so no dinner off the ship.
