Ugh! Lola (our puppy) just finished peeing INTO one of our heat vents (this house has them all on the floor). I popped the cover, and cleaned up as best I could, but the stupid vent does an immediate turn underneath the flooring. So now I'm wondering if our house is going to smell this Winter when we turn on the heat. Leave it to me to get a corgi that pees into a vent, rather than sleeping on one.

Long day.
There was no kicking and screaming and throwing himself on the floor last night during the 3 hour meltdown. The Toddler is adept at manipulating his parents and they allow themselves to be manipulated. He didn't go to bed until after 11 pm. They said this morning that was the latest he has stayed up since he started day care. Even through his tears, he would talk to me and he wasn't playing me.
They don't believe in saying NO to him. They try to explain everything and get him to understand why he needs to do whatever it is. It is very time consuming and doesn't always work with a 2 year old. Especially an overtired 2 year old.
He never wants to go to day care, so morning are rough. He also doesn't want to leave day care. He just wants to keep on doing whatever it is he was doing.
I am not an expert at parenting by any means and I know he did everything I asked and was very well behaved because the three of us kept asking him to help auntie take care of him. There were times I didn't understand what he wanted and he showed me without getting mad. He doesn't do that with them.
He was very cooperative with the diaper changing. When I asked if he needed changed, he told me yes. He always tells them no and then fights them through the entire change. He didn't fight me at all.
They told me he throws all the toys out of his bed when they put him in bed every night. He didn't throw any toys out of his bed before he went to sleep. He also makes them tuck him in several times. I tucked him in once.
I know it was because I had him for one night.
I don't know if 2 year olds have an indoor voice but he has no concept of the difference between an indoor and outdoor voice. He is a very loud kid and he isn't competing for attention.

I've never known a two-year-old who knew the difference between indoor and outdoor voices. They usually can sit quietly for a while, though, for me, anyway.

I was more authoritarian with toddlers.
You're two. I'm in charge.
I would explain and demonstrate correct behavior but no meant no.
Toddlers are trying to learn their place in the world and boundaries. They are learning how to interact with the world.
Kids need boundaries. Everyone has to learn how to deal with being told no at some point. It's preferable to teach them as toddlers.
I will let the girls argue to an extent and I usually end up explaining my logic but there are times no means no. I'm the parent you are a minor. Deal with it.

I'm personally comfortable with drinking our tap water, mostly from the water line running through the fridge filter. I do keep a case of bottled on hand for the very rare boil water notice or, like now, when water is cut off for several hours to repair leaking mains. Sometimes I will grab a bottle (we keep them in the garage) when I'm working in the yard and don't want to change shoes to come in. Other than that, I've got a big container of tap water chilling in the fridge at all times. chiver78 No one is in a position to purchase and deliver water to her for a number of reasons, including getting paid for it. I'm not willing to lift that much weight either. It is her choice, of course.

Like all days spent traveling there are good things and bad things that happen.
I stopped for gas south of Toronto. The pay at the pump wasn't working so there was a sign to just pump the gas and come inside to pay. When I am paying, the cashier said I didn't sound Canadian and asked if I was American. I said yes and I would rather be Canadian. He said well Canada has problems like the US but at least they don't have Trump. He then asked if I voted for Trump and said I was a good person for being able to see through him. I have no political stickers on my car and wasn't wearing anything with a political statement so I don't know how that convo went there.
Border crossing was easy. It was all easy until I get to Toledo, Ohio. There had been a very bad multi-car accident and it took me 2 hours to go 5 miles to get past the accident. I was in MAGA country and hated all the bumper stickers.
Finally get to my hotel about 6 PM. Hilton brand in downtown Fort Wayne. They gave me a free upgrade. The room I selected wasn't clean yet at 6 PM and the guy didn't know when it would be ready. I am tired and want to be in a space of my own. So I take a different room.
Of course, no valet to take things to the room, so I do that and park the car as parking is across the street. When I finally get to the room there is no toilet paper in the bathroom. Called the front desk and they brought toilet paper. Isn't that a requirement for cleaning a room?
So I am tired and the computer is going away until morning.
It is nice to be alone in my space to enjoy my own company.

He will sit quietly and play or watch the iPad they let him watch forever. I think he spends too much time on the iPad but I am not his parent.

I think they are in for it, too.

Trying to get them to unlearn that if they scream long and loud enough you'll cave is a bitch.
DH has had to deal with that and I refuse to step in.
You're the one who trained them now you figure out how to undo it. They know better than to pull that with me anymore.
Nobody is perfect I've mishandled my fair share of situations.
But there is being human and setting yourself up for failure.
They think 2 is bad. Three is worse and they'll have a three year old who knows he rules the roost. Have mercy on their souls.

Quick question for those who have had chemo - do you have to drink and cook with bottled water the rest of your life? A friend on fixed income mentioned she needed to cut back somehow, and I asked her if she had considered using tap water instead of a case+ of bottled water weekly which runs around $6 which is over $300 a year. She said because of chemo following her cancer surgery about 16 years ago, she could not drink or cook with tap water, and had to be careful not to get it in her mouth or nose when showering. I've heard of that for organ transplant recipients who are on powerful immune suppression drugs but not for others. No. I went through chemo, and had to be very germ conscious, because it beats your immune system. But even during chemo, there was no mention of drinking bottled water. Same for my sister, who went through it.

Is there some type of neutralizer (baking soda? Nature's Miracle?) You can spray down there? I would probably call a furnace cleaner company and ask what they suggest. Do you have a heavy, bendable wire hanger, or something, you can use with a towel, to clean past the bend? Good luck!

i apologize for a drive by post without reading everyones.
Hugs and prayers to those who need them. Congrats to others.
I don't have the mental strength or time to read everything. I'm sorry.
My dad has been moved to a rehab facility for those who have asked. Im hoping to visit Friday because we have found out my mom has withheld info. Not malicious, just doesn't want to worry us.
Such is my family.

I think they are in for it, too. They are smart. It usually doesn't take them long to figure out who will let them get away with things. My grandbabies mind me just fine. I don't ask much from them, but they are learning. Things like, if you stand in the wagon, you don't get to ride in it. If you throw a toy, you don't get to play with it for a while. We are working on table manners, so they sit quietly in their seats until everyone has finished eating. I did the same things with mine when they were little. They've never had Ipads. They can watch PBS or Disney with us, but that's it for screens. We play a lot.

Put a puppy pee pad on vents ( will not stop peeing but easier to clean up). Spray each pad with repellent might help

Put a puppy pee pad on vents ( will not stop peeing but easier to clean up). Spray each pad with repellent might help I put similar pads under my cats' litter boxes. Not that they miss peeing and pooping in the box. It's to keep the cat litter knocked out of the box from scattering all over the place. All pads reusable 4-5 times while replacing old litter with new.

So many plastic bottles especially the small water bottles. Does no one trust tap water ? Or must you bring water bottles when out of your house? Trying to use less plastic. DIL now has a store in her town that Has liquid detergents etc that are sold by filling containers you bring to store. She also found a shampoo bar that she likes but not conditioner yet. This is the first conditioner bar I've found that I liked, and I love it. bar-none.co/products/bar-none-hydrating-conditioner

Had the exact same thing happen here. Once with a dog and once with a cat. Two different floor vents several years apart. Thought the house would reek, but when the heat came on, unbelievably there was no residue odor at all.
I would get some puppy pads or maybe put an OLD towel or something over vent until your fur baby is completely housebroken.

I've not made the attempt yet as I'm old and set in my ways. But, I'm going to browse that site now.

My German Shepherd had diarrhea once down the floor vent. I just wanted to burn the house down. It was a gift that kept on giving every time the furnace kicked on, despite cleaning it up the best I could. Having a floor vent right in front of the door you let animals out into the back yard is a dumb idea. One of many this homebuilder did.

I had that problem when my boys were young and our house had a floor vent next o the toilet. Took a while to figure out why the bathroom smelled like pee soon after cleaning. Finally realized where the smell was coming from. No help, but I certainly sympathize.
