The group was giving away free eclipse-watching glasses at last night's community meeting. I wanted to be supportive, but I find solar eclipses very spooky and will not watch it. It's going to be challenging for me because it's during DH's "we have to go out to lunch" time and I totally want to shut the blinds and not go outside, not see it period. This is going to be sort of a red-line thing for me which will be ugly. It's challenging when everyone around me is so excited to see something that scares the carp out of me. I wish I could better describe the discomfort I experience with eclipses, even the partial ones, but I can't. I'm so very tired of having to do things I don't want to do and at some point the rubber band will snap.

Was let out of work about 2 hours early so I have started drinking an adult beverage.

Maybe he will be, after you're done with him! 😉 And if he believes in reincarnation, he's going to spend his next life in close contact with toilet paper! 🤣🤣🤣 bwahaha

So DD will be 23 in August. She started teaching dance again last Fall. The class was finishing up their recital dance last night. The song is an ode to the writer’s mother. A conversation during a break lead to one of the dancers exclaiming to DD “Wait. You have a mother?” “Yes, of course. Why would you think I don’t have a mother?” “Well my mom’s mom is dead so I just figured yours was too.” DD wasn’t sure how to respond so she said “Sorry about your grandma” and started the music. Kids can have the strangest ideas sometimes. My DH teaches 4 yr old preschool. Whenever I stop by it never fails that several kids will shout Mr S your mom is here! Meanwhile he smirks and doesn't correct them. Doesn't phase me.

Couldn't sleep. Today will be miserable. Got together a list of places to call about the basement. This is when I miss Jerry. I don't know what I am doing. I know I need my basement waterproofed. Am I calling the right kind of people? Sounds like it from what I see on their websites, but they all sound wonderful on those. Do you belong to local fb groups? That's where I post asking for referrals. Usually someone's name comes up multiple times so I choose them.

I could handle DH much better if I thought he was being honest, but he defaults to "I forgot" far too often to be credible. And I am giving him a possible slight dementia discount in my judgement. He lacks the cojones to stand up and say "I don't want to" so he very conveniently "forgets". And then I'm the bad person in the relationship because I won't give him grace. Okay, I'll own it because I got no more GAF to give. He "forgot" he agreed to grill some asparagus for Sunday's meal (his day to cook-I'm making braised lamb shanks and couscous) so now I'll fix the veggie too. Then he "forgot" I asked to go to a particular restaurant today so we went to a local diner he likes. And he "forgot" I said I was running a load of laundry right after lunch and was pissed that the washer was occupied when he wanted to run his load. Soup - you need to text the man things like this. Written proof is your friend. Ask me how I know 😉

So that was lucky. I needed some groceries. The sun was out and it looked glorious outside. At the very last moment I remembered that showers were in the forecast so I grabbed my raincoat feeling a bit silly. You guessed it: it was pouring when I came out of the store and I would have been soaked without my coat. I want my sunshine back! I can handle that last week's t-shirt weather has taken a leave of absence but dangit I want the sun back.

we went to Texas Steak House, haven't been there in ages, it was excellent. It was packed but the service was fast and the food so good. Hubs and I had prime rib, DD grilled shrimp and salad, we all had several rolls. The most we have eaten in ages, I had to unbutton my pants, not good. So now we are home, hubs flopped in his recliner, DD in her bed, and me in mine typing and reading. Again we are just doing routine stuff.
I too am tired, not doing much, falling asleep earlier at night and sleeping better the last few nights, but still sleepy all day. I don't know why either.

In other news, the last of our Covid holdouts may have fallen. After his brother's brush with the disease in January it looks like DS2 has finally caught it. His wife and kids had it a few times before but they always took turns. This week the three of them were infected at the same time so DS2 was in charge of taking care of them. When I called him yesterday for his birthday he sounded awful. I am certain he caught it too but when I asked today he was was feeling better. Having known this guy for 42 years now I asked if he had tested himself - no surprise, he had not. Or as he said, there is no test and therefore no proof anywhere in the world that showed he ever had Covid. So he record is unbroken*. Yea, right * He may be in denial but there is not a single anti-vaxxer in my family. He got his shots as soon as he was eligible which may be the reason he escaped for this long. I just got my Covid (booster) to finally be caught up.shot yesterday. Twice before I had an appointment to get it, but then didn't. So I'm glad to finally have them caught up.

The other one is not very active. I do know work needs to be done. I put off calling today because I didn't get enough sleep. Will make calls on Monday and see what happens. I don't want to put it off. It's going to be noisy. I don't know how long it will take, but it will be loud. I like my peace and quiet so I will not be happy.

The Other Me,
You can use Yelp.com
There are several ways to waterproof a basement. They can paint the inside, they can dig around the foundation and paint the outside or they can install a French drain.
When we had ours done, I got estimates from 3 or 4 companies and chose one. I had them install a French drain and sump pump along the worst wall.

I really do think that wearing that boot threw something off with that hip. I am blaming it on the boot because it started while I was using the boot, and I wasn’t doing anything strenuous, or even a lot of walking.
Now that I am walking a lot since I’m back at work, I am really feeling it. It’s more uncomfortable than painful when I walk. But it is worse when I move that leg to the side to get out of the Jeep. It’s my left leg, so it moves first when I am getting out of the Jeep.
Also, there is some caution tape all around an area next to my work area, to keep people from using it as a dumping ground for random stuff. Instead of going way out of my way to get around it to go to the restroom or whatever, I step over the caution tapes in places that it is low enough to do so. That feels just as bad as getting out of the Jeep. In addition to how it feels, it also feels like that part of my body may or may not cooperate with what I’m trying to do.
I am starting to get concerned, because it seems to be getting worse instead of better. The last thing I need is for something else to be wrong with my body. UGH!
If it doesn’t improve anytime soon, or keeps getting worse, I guess I’ll have to go see what’s going on with it. FUCK ME!

Because my mom chose to isolate dad and I, there's a whole lot I didn't get in life, until after I went to college and was engaged to DH. i did assume that people died early in life (by mid-60s), and I didn't understand why DH was sad in his early 20s when his grandparents died. So, I could think exactly what that student thought. Kids also don't have a great handle on age. I can be anywhere from 25-100 on pretty much any given day, according to my students.

Pink Cashmere , would stretching a bit before you go to work help? It can't hurt. I told Mister about it after I typed this post, and he suggested the same thing. I will try it, since like you said, it can’t hurt.

So, I could think exactly what that student thought. Kids also don't have a great handle on age. I can be anywhere from 25-100 on pretty much any given day, according to my students. Having been on both sides now that I am a grandparent myself, I think that grandparents are truly something special. I never knew any of my biological father’s family, IIRC, he was raised by his grandmother. My maternal grandmother was married, but he was my Mom’s stepfather, and I usually refer to him as my Grandmother’s husband, and not *my* anything, for good reasons. My Miom’s biological father, I never met him. He was mentally ill and died when I was in middle school. But my maternal grandmother, she was EVERYTHING. She was not perfect, but she was an awesome grandmother. Being a grandmother myself now, I have learned that as much as I love my children, the love I have for my grandchildren is something different. Last week I went to visit them and they were outside when I pulled up. DGD2 started bouncing around from excitement when she saw my Jeep. I can’t describe the joy I feel when they are happy to see me. A month or so ago, I don’t remember what she said sparked the conversation, but DD was telling me that she and DGS had a conversation and she told him that unfortunately, everybody is going to die at some point. She said she told him, I’m going to die one day, *what they call my Mom* is going to die one day, your Nana (me) is going to die one day. She said when she said that about me, DGS got very upset and said “NOT my Nana”, ran out of the room and started crying. DD said “he didn’t even react like that when I said I’M going to die one day”. Mister’s parents were awesome grandparents to Mister’s children and his brother’s child. His Mom had a room in her house that was dedicated to Granny School, and her grandchildren were well prepared when they started going to school for real. But aside from Granny School, they loved spending time with their grandchildren and doing things with them. That is why every single time the girls came home from college while she was in the hospital, they made it their business to go visit and sit with her.

Today hasn't been the best day. I went to WV to pick up some of the side of beef that my MIL ordered, and one of the dogs on the farm bit my calf. He tore apart my favorite pair of pants and I have a couple of deep puncture wounds that I keep making bleed again when I go up or down stairs. I went to urgent care and have a prescription for three types of antibiotics to fill tomorrow. Fortunately the farm was able to email the dog's shot records so I don't have to worry about getting rabies shots.
Then when I got home I had an email with a detailed listing of the damage my former tenants did to my rent house, which is going to have to be cleaned and repaired. I don't get how people can live in filth like that.

If it doesn’t get better soon, I will probably just make an appointment. I have had random aches and pains over the last 2 decades, just because of the nature of my job. I have always had a “wait and see” approach, and most of them have gone away over time. It’s funny (but not really) that I was worried about how my foot would do with me going back to work, and my foot is just fine, but my hip is not.

I don't get how people can live in filth like that. Oh dear! I am sorry you got bit. Is the farm paying for your medical bills? I would feel horrible if one of my dogs bit somebody. Well, I did have a dog that bit someone, but we were out in public and he kinda deserved it because he was drunk and being aggressive with me, and the bite didn’t actually puncture his skin. It was like my dog was saying “you ignored my Mom’s signals that she doesn’t want to talk to you, and my signals for you to back up, so let me make it more clear that we want you to go away”. I am not saying it was okay for my dog to do what he did, I’m just explaining the circumstances. I am not too surprised anymore about how some people are willing to live in filth. I’ve seen it for myself. I guess it’s not true to say I’m not surprised by it, because I do think WTF, and it’s more that I have realized that some people really are willing to live like that.

I'm so very tired of having to do things I don't want to do and at some point the rubber band will snap. hugs. can I ask why this scares you so much? serious question, I'd like to understand.

DH even picked up dinner on his way home. Also, there is a very slim chance that I may travel to The Netherlands for work this summer. Imposter Syndrome is in full force. Mister has been struggling with imposter syndrome after his latest promotion. He has said to me that he is “just” a boy from the hood, how did he get to where he is, making the kind of money he does. I told him that he is there because he earned it by being very good at what he does for his employer. That is truth, and not me just trying to make him feel good. A few days ago, he was bent out of shape because he made a purchase for the building he is responsible for, for over $800k. He told me he ran the numbers for hours and made sure he could document why it was necessary, before he submitted the request. But he was still out of sorts about it, because it was so much money. It was approved immediately, but he still felt some kind of way about being in a position to spend that kind of money, even though it was all legit and a real need for the facility.

The Other Me, You can use Yelp.com There are several ways to waterproof a basement. They can paint the inside, they can dig around the foundation and paint the outside or they can install a French drain. When we had ours done, I got estimates from 3 or 4 companies and chose one. I had them install a French drain and sump pump along the worst wall. There are not many reviews of any of the local companies. I already have a sump pump. The guy who was here replacing the sump pump showed me that there is no tiling or sealant on the foundation. Right now, you can see the wall of the foundation where the sump pump drains. The black sealant is not there and there is no tile. His company used to do foundation work so he told me what needs to be done and did recommend two companies. The way it is now, the rain water is going under the house and that is why the sump pump runs non stop in the spring and summer. It's mostly pumping water right back in to the same area. He said his company did a foundation repair from the outside on the house at the end of my street. The biggest thing, is the drainage can't be changed so that it all runs on to someone else's property so the city has to be involved. He showed me where the city will say to have it drain in the back of the house. There is an easement back there that is basically a ditch. He gave me a guesstimate on cost so I wouldn't go in to shock. At least I have the money.

They didn't offer to pay for anything, and I'm not planning to go after them for it if it just ends up being the urgent care visit and a few prescriptions. If they hadn't had the dog vaccinated and I had to get rabies shots, I might have asked them to cover it, since I have a high deductible health plan. But they sent me the shot records so I don't have to worry about that. As far as provoking the dog, I didn't even see that particular dog. The owners were sitting in their garage with the boxes of beef for me to pick up, so I greeted them and then turned around to put my purse in the car, since I thought it would be in the way carrying boxes. The dog ran out of the garage at me from behind, bit my calf, and then continued running away in front of me. They had me go into the garage and shut the garage door to keep the dog away, and then while the owner went to get a first aid kit, her husband was whispering to us that he never trusted that dog. Then my MIL told me that whenever she came to the farm to visit her friend, she stayed in the car with the doors shut until her friend came out, because she thought the dogs were vicious, and that her friend had told her that the first time this particular dog bit someone, they would euthanize it. So apparently they knew the dog was an issue and still had it out when they were expecting customers to pick up the beef.

Kids also don't have a great handle on age. I can be anywhere from 25-100 on pretty much any given day, according to my students. Because both of my parents came from such large families, I thought every body had lots of grandmas and lots of cousins to play with. Before we moved to Des Moines, I played with cousins most days. It wasn't until we lived in Des Moines that I figured out everybody didn't have 55 cousins on one side and 30 on the other like I did. We also had bonus grandmas. Mothers-in-law who were widows became Grandma. They hosted dinners and were part of the family. I didn't know I wasn't blood related to them until high school.

Can you email your doctor and ask whether this is something you need to be concerned about and see him, only needs PT, or will just go away? I can message him on the patient portal. To be fair that does not amaze me. I have seen it many times before with DSis1. She had a slew of issues with her knees, ankles, and feet. Over the years she had many surgeries related to them and more often than not she would have problems in a different area after the original injury was healed due to over/incorrect use of an other part in an effort to protect the injury site. I am not a doctor nor have I ever worked in the medical field but I suggest if this issue get worse not get better, that your wait and see period be really short. Don't risk lasting damage by "toughing this out".
