Everyone: what are your favorite cold symptom relievers? I MUST be able to get through an hour without symptoms tomorrow evening, but this cough is still dogging me.
I have taken: Nyquil, last night; Dayquil, this morning; Zicam for a runny nose every 12 hours; Excedrin to keep the headache at bay. Still coughing. May be persuaded to run to the drugstore for Chloraseptic cough drops. After tomorrow evening this cold can have me, I won't care any more.

I started chugging Robitussin like I did back in the 80s as a kid. That worked pretty good.
Mucinex helped get the crap up and out.
Sudafed works for the sinus pressure, congestion and runny nose.
Cepacol works great for the actual sore throat. I prefer cherry flavored drops. Chloraseptic spray also works pretty good but I HATE how it tastes.
Would not recommend my approach if you have heart issues. I was speeding around the house for a good couple hours. But I could breathe!

Robitussin did help me for a bit the other night.

Same. The only thing I have to do today is pick up food. That may be my day. Worrying is exhausting and I don't know how to make myself stop worrying.

Google translate might have done a better job - had it been available. For the reserved table(s) as I mentioned before take a slight left just before the gates of hell Is it wrong that now I kind of wanna see what a mess AI would make of translating the Bible? And how wrong, exactly? Like, am I still allowed at the YM table or am I going to be down with the televangelists? Oh, I'm totally with you in the desire to see that AI would do with the original Aramaic/Hebrew versions of the Bible. I'd read it while drinking my margarita and partaking in all the yummy snacks because this recovering Catholic is totally in the agnostic world. In the famous words of Amy Farrah Fowler, I'm not opposed to the idea of a deity, but i find that notion that one takes attendance baffling.

Not so much now that I am 40 but my approach to medicating illness tends to be "Will this kill me if I combine it with this? Nope? Let's see what happens!" Sometimes I have a pretty good day. Other times I am worried my heart is going to explode out of my chest. It's a crapshoot but at least I don't feel sick anymore.

I would talk to your/a pharmacist for an otc cough suppressant. Try it today to see how it works. Then you have this afternoon/tomorrow morning to try something different if the first one doesn't work. You might call your doctor for something stronger too. I know the suppressants aren't liked these days but sometimes you just need it to get through - like you said - an hour or 2 and I feel like most docs are more willing when they know you know it's not for regular use.

I would just say to take the Mucinex a few hours before you need to be functional. I had a sinus infection in January one year. I was so congested I needed the crap to drain. I did not plan well and took Mucinex about a hour before a contract kick off conference in which I was the main speaker. I had to review 50 some pages of the contract.
The Mucinex started working about the time the meeting started. My nose became a faucet and I was choking on the stuff in my throat. I kept having to mute for a few seconds and I was the only one speaking. Fortunately it was a virtual meeting and we didn't have cameras on to give maximum screen space to the contract pages.
It does work for me though.

The Sudafed needs to be the stuff behind the pharmacy counter that they make meth from. We are still coughing, and have been eating Ricola cough drops by the Costco sized bag. I am not attempting to block the cough as both TD and I are coughing up crap and I’d rather have it coughed up and out rather than stay inside my lungs. The cough drops keep the tickle to a minimum. Whatever going around is brutal. TD slept on the sofa half reclining. I was up from 2-3 am coughing. My ribs hurt and I have lost m6 voice.

I was in bad shape two weekends ago, but it was only a couple days that were awful. I still have a lingering cough, but it's more of an annoyance than anything. I feel fine.
I only tried Nyquil and Dayquil when it was really bad. I don't think they helped much.

I need to take a long lunch and head to the John Deere dealership for belts, it's about a 25 mile drive, but it's a nice day and I don't have much to do at work. I'm a little worried to find out what they cost now. When I was looking online they were $78.

Same. The only thing I have to do today is pick up food. That may be my day. Worrying is exhausting and I don't know how to make myself stop worrying. I worry and there’s not much I can do except offer encouragement, support, and help if allowed. So, I bake. I woke up too early this morning worrying and just got up and baked before getting ready for work. I may not be able to make things better but I can bake yummy stuff for my peeps, and sometimes share with friends and coworkers. It keeps my hands and mind somewhat busy. You, guys, hang in there! If I could, I would bake for you too 🤗

I think soupandstew had a bad cough not too long ago and a pharmacist recommended something OTC that worked wonders for her. I don’t remember what the med was though. Ricola cough drops help me when I have coughing fits at night occasionally. But it’s the something tickling the back of your throat kind of cough. And I’m not sure how well you’d be able to speak with a cough drop in your mouth. I hope you find something that helps. I know this is important to you.

I have no suggestions because I don’t feel like the standard cold remedy approaches or anything else really ever work for me…but sympathizing and hoping for a more effective experience for finnime (and everyone else currently afflicted)

another vote for Mucinex and the original Ricola here. I'm definitely with Mich on getting it all coughed up and out, as quickly as possible.

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate it. I'm going to go with Mucinex, of which I have some, based on your recommendations. The cough I must quell--I'll get in touch w my doctor and see if she's willing to prescribe something to get me through the hours needed, as raeoflyte suggested. We of Y Ma'am have quite an assortment of remedies. I'll have to look for Sudafed next time I'm in the pharmacy. I appreciate the wish, Pink Cashmere .

The walk in clinic did give me something for cough last time that worked. I believe it is called benzonatate.
Still no results for hubs test. I hope we can see it. He has an appointment next Wednesday if we can't.

TBH, I've struggled with spiritual issues for many years. 20+ years of worshipping in a tradition gave me a lot of imposter syndrome issues b/c I didn't really ever totally embrace the concept of Jesus as a savior, although I did and do embrace many of Jesus' reported teachings as excellent wisdom. Just as I also embrace teachings of other faiths. I loved the fellowship, and the potential for achieving a better world. I don't really believe in the concept of an afterlife good or bad. And I really can't get there with the idea of condemnation to a tormented afterlife because of violating rules which seems to be pretty much established by humans, primarily male humans. For many years I've commented that there is no asterisk after quotations from various scriptures like "*except for the following: women, gays, blacks, handicapped...." Yet some denominations and congregations are still trying to put that asterisk into their worship. I seem to remember Soupandstew sharing how she struggled to find a religious organization that fit them after leaving a particular one at some point, hope I haven’t mistaken you for someone else. And she seemed to find fulfillment, camaraderie and meaningful work in serving her community in other ways. azucena, reading about all the support you provide to your kid’s theater group, coaching volleyball and your continued support of your kids’ friends with studying, college talk encouragement, and finally taking in bonus teen on a more permanent basis, I think you might do well to take stock of all that. I bet it would be wonderful if you and your family could find a church family that would provide for all of your various needs and offer support and opportunities to be a part of something bigger in a more complete fashion, but that just might be too tall of an order as you could see by some of the comments you’ve received from your contacts. You already do so much and I am sure you will find more and more meaningful ways to be involved in your community, just like soupandstew has, but you might have to look outside religious organizations for that at this time. And many have found that spirituality can be found outside of organized religion. It is a lot more work but you seem to have an idea of what you would like for your family and no luck in finding it all in one place. Wishing you all the best on your journey 🤗

Didn't stop the spasms and coughing fits but they helped tremendously with basic function, like being to talk without dying.

These Chloraseptic cough drops are menthol with a numbing agent. I hate menthol. But, it seems at this minute to be quelling the cough. Too bad I can't present with cough drops in my mouth.

Just like daisy-- If I take Mucinex I am up coughing continuously I end up feeling like I was beaten with a bat and even more exhausted. I typically end up taking Coricidin D or Cough & cold. Along with cough drops.
