Right now, the new plantings are sitting in front of a window in the tool shed. This has been a very wet and cold spring. I think it's time for a cup of hot tea and an old but loved book from my home library.

Omg, today can just go away. Carrot's camping tent-mate tested positive for covid, oldest son probably failed linear and won't be able to take any of the classes he's registered for this Fall (and they don't offer linear in the summer), the 40 hanging plants that I sold to people for scouts that were to be delivered before Mother's Day aren't going to arrive until next week and my sister was only going to be within 2 hours of me on Sunday so that should be fun, and lastly (so far) the farrier I've been desperately trying to get out for a month because Gus's feet are horrible, finally called a half hour ago to let me know he could be at my house tonight at 7...but Carrot has a band concert and we have to be there at 6:30 (assuming he passes his covid test).
I think I'm going to go home and have a drink.

Devil dog is on an allergy diet now to try to work through the GI, ear, and malabsorption issues he has. It's been about 4 weeks and he is wild. If this is him feeling well I don't know how we will survive him. Hoping dh gets his neuter scheduled asap just in case that calms him down a bit. I am amused every time you call him devil dog. It’s probably not amusing to you though, since I’m guessing you gave him that name for a reason. I know you’re taking him to classes, I assume obedience classes to get him trained. What does he do to earn that name? No judgement, just curious.

I am sitting in the garage with the door up, watching and listening to the rain. Newbie is sitting beside me. I probably could’ve let OG come too, she doesn’t like rain so she might not run off. I’m not taking the chance though. I never want to have to tell Mister OG ran away or ran off and hit by a car or got injured somehow.
I feel bad sometimes about not taking her when I take Newbie out. But just last week she ran off and completely ignored Mister calling her. She’d been doing better for a while, staying in the yard, if Mister is outside. idk what was wrong with her that day. But that’s why I don’t take any chances with her.

Our dishwasher won’t come on. Mister went straight to it when he got home from work today, to see if he can fix it. I kinda hope he can’t. I’ve always disliked that dishwasher. I know he will not be happy if we have to replace it, since he just spent all that money on the gutters. But that’s why we have that savings account specifically for the house. He refuses to use it though, and he never has. But he doesn’t care if I use it, and I have. There is more than enough in there to buy a dishwasher. I want another Bosch.

I am so proud of Newbie right now! We are back in the garage, watching and listening to the rain.
She took off after a bird earlier, but came back to me when I called her. She saw the bird before I did.
Not too long ago, 2 more birds were jumping around in the grass on the other side of the driveway for a few minutes. When Newbie spotted them I told her to look at me, and she did. I told her to stay, and she did, even though she kept watching the birds when I wasn’t having her look at me.
Like I told y’all, she has a VERY strong prey drive, so I’m really proud of her that she listened to me and didn’t take off after them after the first time.
This was the first time I’ve been able to easily get and keep her attention when she spots “prey”.

Mister is gone to get a part for the dishwasher. I do like that he can fix so many things, but I was really kinda hoping he couldn’t fix the dishwasher and we’d need to replace it. I know that sounds kind of ungrateful, but I’m just telling y’all, not Mister lol.

Its been over 20 years since I had a puppy and I dont remember my last dogs being so difficult which is mostly puppy amnesia. He's been over 80 pounds since 8 months which makes normal puppy behavior difficult to deal with. We say he's simultaneously the best and worst dog we've ever had. None of the reactivity, aggression, or socialization issues our last dogs had but I swear I've never worked so hard to have a dog be so inconsistent in training - but I didn't get serious about dog training until my other dogs were older which I'm sure is also a factor that I'm being too harsh on him. Dh is a vet tech so everyone asks him what kind of dog to get, and he's always said labs are great dogs if you run 6 miles a day. But then the time we go for a pure bred dog and he's the one that wanted, pushed for, and ultimately got a lab. I don't dislike our dog - really! But I was going for a smaller/calmer dog. I relented on the lab because this breeder has bred working service dogs. But I don't think devil dog has the personality for that. Which is fine- we knew that wasn't a guarantee and are happy with a family pet. But I have some frustrations with dh and myself that we knew I'd be doing most of the dog training but we dismissed the characteristics that were important to me. All of that sounds awful. I love the darn dog, and I'm sure when he calms down I might actually like him too. And until then I'll be taking up running.

I'm trying to process this afternoon. I am not a die-hard, or even slightly-hard Christian, or anything else spiritually at this point in life, but I want to help people when I can because I believe that's a needful and right thing to do. I'm trying to work out the intersection of helping a disabled person and dealing with their blatant racism. I have some thinking to do tonight and some decisions will have to be made. I hate decisions

I love the darn dog, and I'm sure when he calms down I might actually like him too. And until then I'll be taking up running. Oh nooooo, I never thought you dislike him and you being honest does not sound awful. I just knew from you calling him devil dog that he must not be an “easy” dog. Yet. I say “yet” because he’s still young and might settle down as he matures, and because I know that you are working with him to teach him how you expect him to behave. I’ve never had a lab, and I’ve only ever had 2 high energy dogs, my big poodle, and now Newbie. With my poodle, having a large fenced in backyard where he could run around until his heart was content, and teaching him to fetch (my lazy way of getting him some exercise) supplemented walking him, and helped him burn off some energy. Newbie, if we just let her out in the yard, she runs around like a maniac for no reason, (which I love to watch btw) and it helps her expend energy without Mister and I having to expend a lot of energy ourselves. I’m aware of the saying that “a tired dog is a happy dog”, but my Poodle and Newbie both had and have way more energy than I did and do, so I know it’s not always easy to tire your dog out. I ASSume that the saying means a dog has had enough exercise and is too tired to get into much mischief. I feel like training a dog and teaching them how you expect them to behave is not harsh. I believe it is beneficial to them to understand the “rules”. That way, the dogs don’t get on their humans’ nerves, and the dog can have more freedom because their humans are confident that the dog will obey when the human is trying to keep them from harm or injury. I hope devil dog ends up being an awesome pet!

The insurance didn't approve my Nextlizet, said they were using it for an off label use? What I thought it was to lower cholesterol?? The ins company said the doctor never got in touch with them, the PA had a reference number where she had this is crazy.
Now I just got a call saying my ozempic is ready and its $477.38, what the hell?? Everytime I get a med the price is different and up. I assume that is for 3 months, I told hubs looks like I won't get to my goal weight, if I took this and the other one my premium and med bill would go to right at $2,000 a month. I can't do that. Like hubs said great to have insurance you can't use. I need to call I guess and see what is going on with this now. I'm just so damn aggravated, all I'm trying to do is stay healthy.
The nursing home is now billing us the $2440 they didn't bill us for a year and after I had to spend down MIL's money, damn. I'm going to offer them $100 a month and if there is any extra I will throw that in monthly also, and tell them why. If they had billed the damn thing I could have paid it. Hubs is paying deductible for MIL's meds too. Welcome to old age and I thought we had really great insurance, sigh. They may be trying to get rid of her too with all the trouble she causes them, who knows. I will try calling the state again and see why we are getting billed for whatever it is.

Hubs and I got a needed job done. I gave hubs his leather work gloves and we got a big towel and wrapped Tigger in it. He knew right away when he saw the towel this was not going to be good and tried to run.
We wrapped him up and hubs held him, I got both front claws trimmed they were very long. He had been scratching on stuff the last couple of weeks and that couldn't continue. He was over it in just a couple of minutes, maybe he will calm down more, just did the front. I will check his back nails later.
Next job is flea treatment.
I hated to do it, if a dog gets after them don't know if they can get up a tree. I saw him shoot straight up one today.
The 2 big rocks really look pretty, especially the one in the front landscaping. Things like that just add so much.

It's cold and dreary and raining off and on here today also, not something I enjoy.
Next Tuesday it's supposed to be 88 or 90 here not sure how long but sure awfully hot for so early in the year.

We are forecast to break a record Sunday at 98 degrees. The record is 96. EMS will be busy with heat exhaustion calls as families picnic and drink alcohol in the heat.

Driving today I found myself thinking about Beth and my almost meet up with her. I know it's because Mother's Day is this weekend and it was over Mother's Day weekend that I was going to be there. We tried, but because it was Mother's Day weekend, we couldn't figure out a time. Also thought about all the stuff that went poof. I did get to meet Gira on that trip. I'm jealous. I wanted to PM you. If I don't get to it, ping me.

I am in my bed on a warm blanket, I was freezing till I took a shower. Have one kitty on my lap and the other asleep on hubs bed, toward my feet. The boys are so content, I can just look at them and they start purring big time, spoiled babies.
I did my I bonds and $4100 interest since the first of the year. Saw where buying current ones is something like 9.62 till October. Going to withdraw from an IRA the max $20k when the CD matures and buy those. Not sure the date, could take other money out and drop it in, but won't unless from the MM. Will have to pay taxes but that's ok, its our smallest one and think the rates will stay up for a few years, so could even do it at year end and January, can't see the rates going down between now and then. This 6 months, have them drawing 8 to 11plus %, that's a good thing. Hubs is skeptical, I said read about them, they go down, you can pull them out if you want. I had a Treasury account I opened when it first started, it was so complicated I didn't put money in it. I'm hoping its better now and I can reactivate it.

However, he is absolutely wonderful with our kids, and I am glad for that. DH wanted a working type dog (we had boxers before) but does he take the dog for walks? No. Does he train him to be a shed-hunting dog like he talked about? No. When we lived near the state park, I'd run him three miles three times a week. Now I walk him at least a mile a day and play ball outside and on rainy days, I play fetch and hide and seek with him in the basement. I should probably get him out for runs, but I run longer now (typically 5+ miles), and the dog isn't in that shape at the moment! He's not bad (now) if he's not exercised but just annoying. Haha.

He's a very nice dog, loves the kids and woudn't hurt a fly, but he's exhibiting behaviour he should have outgrown by now.....just goofy.

See if a community College offers it during the summer. I did that once 🤕 I've been trying. Used the statewide search and only a couple offer it at all and it transfers in as the "lower level" version. The one the business and non-science and engineering students take. The catalog says he can actually take that version, but he can't get credit for it if he's already got credit for the engineering one, so I don't know what that means? He emailed his advisor today and was told as long as he gets a D he can still take his Fall semester classes, but will need to retake the class at some point in order to graduate. If he fails he has to figure out a way to take it over the summer or he'll have to drop all 4 of his Fall classes and basically be set back a year since the 3 of the 4 classes are only offered Fall and are pre-reqs for the Spring classes. Five years would not be the worst thing I guess.

Well, the neighbors held Gus for me to get trimmed since I couldn't be there and they also cut up and hauled off all the trees that came down last year and got my corn field plowed, so the day at least ended on a good note.

Back from a whole lot of errands- all in Independence, MO, which is the town right next to mine and VERY spread-out. My trash collection company no longer picks up recyclables (yes, they DID reduce their charges after that change) so I ventured up to a place that accepts them- about 4 miles north of here. They even take glass. That's a bit of a relief- I had a couple of month's worth of paper and plastic sitting around and it's gone. Not a big hassle to do that every couple of months. Home Depot- KN95 masks (needed to enter some tourist attractions in Germany, most notably Neuschwanstein Castle) and furnace filters. Probably good for the plane, too.Picked up protein bars at Big Lots- they're not 100% nutritionally virtuous but will be good on my trip for times when I want some sustenance and there's nothing available around me except candy bars and chips. Stocked up on veggies at the grocery store and dropped off plastic bag bits (left over from making the mats I crochet from plastic grocery bags) to recycle. Bought 2 replacement plants- ghost pepper and Carolina Reaper- to replace ones I planted a bit too early that died. I've already planted them. I'm REALLY tired but happy to have all that off my To Do list. Required to enter grocery stores and pharmacies and churches (not sure about the third, but know there were 3 places). Also strongly suggest you wear on flight. I think Lufthansa still requires them, Delta does not. Many tourist attractions do though. I think that the 2 cases we had on the ship the first 2 days of this trip were from air travel. So far, no more positives than the first 2.

I've been watching that silly old show, "Buffy the vampire slayer". It's one of those shows you can watch with half a brain paying attention, LOL!
