2AM. Have woken up twice a sweaty mess and doubt I get back to sleep at this point. At least that means my body is fighting the sickness, right?

Good morning and happy July fifth, inspiring invisipeeps of Y Ma'am. I hope your day is healing and healthy for you and yours.
We made it back home from Maine last night by driving through Boston, avoiding heavy traffic. Fireworks displays decorated the sky as we passed through various towns. We arrived home just as they were wrapping up here.
Today the painters should be finishing their work here. I'm going to go on a buying spree over the next several days for many of the things we disposed of when we sold the house in Maryland.

My son and DIL have had a lot of really hot spicy food. He just doesn't want it. He will try most anything here. Grandpa just gave him some food I fixed for him and it was hot. Hubs is saying no way it's hot, well I ate some and was too hot for me. The kid isn't stupid, he knows what is. I think he got to the point at home not knowing what is hot or not to be safe he just asks for mac and cheese. <snip> I don't make him eat something if he doesn't like it, never did that to my kids either. They don't have eating issues, hubs is the problem child. Totally agreed on giving him a "free trial" of foods and if he doesn't like it, that's OK. It makes kids a lot more willing to try unfamiliar foods. I really don't know how people in cultures with hot and spicy food help their kids develop a taste for them. I love them now but don't remember that I did when I was younger, although both my grandfathers were fond of horseradish! My grandchildren just won't. I once made chili that I thought was mild and the older one tried it and started to cry. I felt so bad! Maybe you could tell DS and DDIL all of the things he really liked- it won't sound like a criticism of what they serve, just ideas that Little Guy might enjoy.

Not thrilled to be back at work especially since I'm covering for two other people. The headache is not helping.

I also just realized that my mom really could have done a visitation for my dad. And I think people would have come. I mean, no it wouldn't have been like my neighbhor that did 5 hours of visitation and then the funeral. But, enough.
But then, my mom would have had proof that she wasn't alone. Better for her to control the situation and shut everyone out, and then complain how alone she is.

Hello, all. @jelloshotsforall, sending healing thoughts for your dad and comfort for you… I brought DD into my office with me today, she will be “interning” while here. It’s a nice addition to her resume and will keep her busy during the days when we are at work. DW had her last day at work today, she starts as a contractor next week. Big change after 14 years of government service but the pay discrepancy was far too big, it was time to make a switch. Hopefully she enjoys the new work. Nothing else on the horizon except to knock out lots of work this week. Just thrilled my DD is here

Awful night. Penny HATES fireworks. I finally got her to sleep. Then I woke up at midnight to go to the bathroom, and they started up again.
Is it terrible to want a nap less than a half hour after getting up?

Just a little fireworks last night and didn't last long. Think people around here are too poor to buy them this year. In years before it was crazy loud here.

There were no fireworks by us last night, but tons Friday-Sunday night. It was foggy and I think most people did their big celebration over the weekend. Ex 2.0's family always has theirs as an overnight at the farm for all the kids/grandkids, so not great to do when everyone has to go to work the next day.

Son and DIL want little guy to eat healthy and I understand that. But they have things that aren't too. Son is always complaining about sugar in everything, yes, I understand that too. But overall we eat pretty healthy, yes, I have luncheon meat right now, easy for lunch and better then McD's. Son even said Subways bread is just full of sugar. I baked some salmon and he liked it. Going to make him some for dinner one night, he likes fish and he will eat a lot of things. I have been to light on salads lately, but he has made up for it eating cucumbers. He has always liked them. We have eaten almost all I've picked and soon giving him ripe tomatoes.
I have seen them make him finish eating something or other but I don't think they do that often. Wish son remembered, I never did that to the kids. And they both ate well.
He will be ok, now he is big enough to say what he likes and doesn't and can pretty much control it.
But they were worried about his behavior, we are just consistent and firm. But when the kids were growing up, on that, I was just as bad, yelling, and going on. I tried the nice firm approach back then but didn't work. And I spanked way to much. He has been a good kid so far. I expect a tantrum or two but it will work.
Hubs and DD and I all get hugs and kisses so that's good.

They were lighting off in our neighborhood till 1:30 am. I am dragging this morning.
The street behind us did a big blow out, the one guy owns several of the firework stands so he gets a deep discount. Everyone on that block contributed. They blew up approximately $5000 worth of fireworks.
Caused our dog to shit all over the sun room. I ended up hiding in the house too, it was too much to be that close to so many fireworks going off. You could feel our house vibrating.
Gwen said it was the greatest firework show she has ever seen.

Son even said Subways bread is just full of sugar. I read that Subway's bread doesn't even get classified as bread in the Netherlands because of its high sugar content. I try to avoid sugar but it's still my "go-to" place when I want a quick meal on the road because I can load up on vegetable toppings, they're stingy with meat and I just skip all the fatty, sugary sauces and get extra jalapenos. Trying to motivate myself to do a workout before the Garden Club meeting at 10. Like others here I'm dragging about because the fireworks went on late last night. Legal end time was 11 PM but I turned out the lights at 10 and they kept me awake. I think it was the municipal display- I could see part of it rom my windows. After the meeting I'm going grocery shopping- somehow I have ZERO fresh produce in the fridge. I guess I didn't get enough last week at the grocery store. Between today's trip and Costco on Thursday I'll be well-stocked again.

Is it terrible to want a nap less than a half hour after getting up? Ds had to be up to go golfing with my folks at 630 and his alarm didn't go off. I wanted to take a nap as soon as I got up to wake him up. Fireworks were long and loud here but once we turn on the window fans most of the sound was drowned out.

I was up late with my dog last night because of the fireworks. She finally had enough and started barking back. Anyway, I'm also dragging this morning but I'm going to do it anyway.

Watching the fishing boats and ferries head out and in to the harbor while the painters are painting. Feeling crazy lucky that I live here.

Made coffee - no creamer, no milk, nothing dairy related in my house. Need caffeine, sooooo tired. Found one last Dr Pepper downstairs.
This is my only workday this week, PTO for the rest. I don't want to be here. Need to find some low-hanging fruit to accomplish.

I think he got to the point at home not knowing what is hot or not to be safe he just asks for mac and cheese. I noted up there he ate a lot of that. And I don't cook Russian or Korean, just plain old American stuff. Of course, I'm not saying anything to her, but his mom will give him a cookie or some item right before he eats then wonder why he isn't hungry. But again, I'm not going to interfere. He will try most anything here and decide if he likes it or not. He decided polish sausage is good. And he and I have eaten almost 11 cucumbers between us, that is one of his favorites. They are small. I'm going to fix fried green tomatoes and see what he thinks of those. I don't make him eat something if he doesn't like it, never did that to my kids either. They don't have eating issues, hubs is the problem child. We went and saw the Jurassic movie, I was kinds of disappointed in it. It was just ok. I guess I thought it would be different, DD thought it was boring. Little guy must have not thought much of it as he squirmed around a lot. I like the way you are exposing your grandson to a variety of foods without insisting he like them all. My mother was a heavy smoker which dulled her taste buds so everything was heavily seasoned and super spicy. There were no options so I ate it, but I remember her being enraged if I got sick afterwards. She saw it as an act of deliberate rebellion, not an immature digestive tract unable to handle it. There were so many foods I didn't like as a child that I adore now so I know tastes do change over time. For the record, I STILL hate head cheese and always will

Fireworks were pretty mild last night for my area, but more gunfire than usual. There were some spectacular ones a few blocks away, but they stopped by 10 so I got a good night's sleep. daisylu I hope you have a better day and night

Fireworks went far in to the night last night. That meant I was dealing with two scared cats. They went to the basement but when they came upstairs, they were clinging to me the rest of the night.
Not a pleasant evening.
I am guessing DN1 and family made it home. They use a transponder attached to my account. They were in Chicago at 2:30 PM. That means they got to Toronto very late.

I was pleased to find out my "new" dog (got her in February) is not affected by fireworks. She was in her crate and pretty much slept through the city's fireworks show. My old Lab mix (lost her last November) could walk with me to the corner and watch the fireworks display from there. Of the dogs I've had as an adult, only my Old English Sheepdog was affected by fireworks (and thunderstorms ). The two Labs, my old Lab mix, and now my Shih Tzu mix were not bothered by fireworks. There's a grave fire risk here, so the jerks who usually set off fireworks into the wee hours didn't do it last night. On the other hand, someone posted a video on Nextdoor of a bunch of teenagers setting a fire about a mile away from me. Of course it was reported to the sheriff. I hope they found the kids.

The Toddler was an extremely picky eater until he went to day care. Think he figured out if he didn't eat the food they gave him, he wasn't eating until he got home.
He loves curry, the hotter the better. He likes his curry too hot for his parents or his Ukrainian grandma. He is smart enough to know he can't eat hot curry every day.
He does play games with his parents over food. This weekend I plan to feed him like my sister did. Have food ready and set it in front of him. He is a good eater. At both lunch and dinner, he will eat 3 or 4 plates of the main dish. He learned that he likes fruit this visit. My sister said he doesn't get to make a choice from 5 or 6 verbal offerings. It takes his parents about 30 minutes to figure out what he wants to eat. While they fix it, he is unhappy. Grandma started heating the 2nd plate of food when he got toward the end of the 1st plate. Like she said, she didn't try to get him to eat new things. That isn't her job.
He doesn't snack. He keeps a sippy cup of water with him all day and drinks from that.
His parents said he wouldn't eat catsup on french fries. My sister mixed them together and he ate them that way.
When his parents got home, he immediately returned to the game playing and they let him.
At least he knows when he is tired. Often at nap time, he says "bed". He does like to say 5 more minutes at night but he doesn't know how long 5 minutes is. So in a couple of minutes, they take him to bed.

My employee who lost her dad on Sunday said they are planning a 1 day visitation. It is common where she is from to do 3, but her dad wanted none. He compromised with his kids on 1. He has 1 sister living, plus his kids and grandkids.

Fireworks went on well past midnight last night. Harriet hung out on TD until he went to bed around 1, and they had stopped by then. I don’t remember hearing any afterwards.
Fireworks and thunderstorms used to drive Harpo nuts too. If we couldn’t drop him off for a few days with grandma, we would put him in the car in the garage. The car was his happy place, the garage only has on3 window, which is obscured by a big bush and between the car and the garage, he was insulated from most of the sound.
