My son and DIL have had a lot of really hot spicy food. He just doesn't want it. He will try most anything here. Grandpa just gave him some food I fixed for him and it was hot. Hubs is saying no way it's hot, well I ate some and was too hot for me. The kid isn't stupid, he knows what is. I think he got to the point at home not knowing what is hot or not to be safe he just asks for mac and cheese. <snip> I don't make him eat something if he doesn't like it, never did that to my kids either. They don't have eating issues, hubs is the problem child. Totally agreed on giving him a "free trial" of foods and if he doesn't like it, that's OK. It makes kids a lot more willing to try unfamiliar foods. I really don't know how people in cultures with hot and spicy food help their kids develop a taste for them. I love them now but don't remember that I did when I was younger, although both my grandfathers were fond of horseradish! My grandchildren just won't. I once made chili that I thought was mild and the older one tried it and started to cry. I felt so bad! Maybe you could tell DS and DDIL all of the things he really liked- it won't sound like a criticism of what they serve, just ideas that Little Guy might enjoy. DS loved hot and spicy as a kid, and still does. I made a lot of hot curries and you should have sen him tucking into jerk chicken in Jamaica when he was about six. In other news, I haven't seen him since Thursday and his 'wife' called today to complain he won't go to a clinic for a covid test. I told her I don't see the point, as he has ALL the signs of infection, and he has it 100%. He doesn't want to come home as he doesn't want to make me sick, what with my damned heart issues. However, his office is here, and he says he needs to work to make money. He makes all his money at the car shows in the summer, so I don't know what he intends to do.

I'm trying to decide where I want to go for takeout lunch. my fridge and freezer contents are all packed in reusable bags, just sitting there. I don't want to unpack stuff to make myself a plate. I never got a call last night or Sunday with my delivery window, so I tried to figure out the online tracker. apparently my delivery window is 215-645. hopefully it's closer to 215, b/c I'm supposed to be meeting mooch at the sports bar patio to grab dinner and hand over the pups for a couple days.

My dogs aren't affected by fireworks either - our lab was outside while we watched the neighbors setting some off.
Took the kids to summer library this morning, so I'm hoping they will read their books and leave me alone during meetings this afternoon.

My caffeine hasn't kicked in yet, so I guess I need more. The neighbors here were shooting off fireworks well past 1 am. Our community did have a big display, but I didn't go. My neighbors were shooting off some expensive ones, so I'm guessing someday I'll have more money at retirement than they will.

My Daughter just called me, and I was telling her about my DS and DBIL's racist comments at my Nephew's house yesterday. She told me that they were the reason she was only at the family Easter Celebration for about 20 minutes. They made her so mad she just left. She also said my Brother's son got extremely Mad at BIL at his Sister's wedding and had words with DBIL. She said he ended up sitting down at a table with she thinks her, my son, and DBIL's step son and he was just steaming Mad. She said she thinks DBIL wears his flag paraphernalia to broadcast his white supremacy at such events. She said DBIL was wearing a flag tie at niece's wedding. My niece's husband is an immigrant from Africa.
Wow Mitch, you still don't have your car back? It feels like it has been a long time. I am in the same boat. Car dealer has now had my car 11 weeks. I have to call them today b/c the rental car they gave me now has a dummy light on. I assume it needs an oil change.
We still have our Santa Fe, but it has a flat tire. DH said he tried to inflate it, but it must have a leak. He is going to try to change out the spare tire and see if that works.

This was just plain mean. I was telling my DD what I was doing with my makeup and hair for a wedding coming up. She said it doesn't matter. True, in the overall scheme of the wedding, how I look does not matter. I am attempting to put forward an upgraded look from zero makeup to dyed brows and lashes. My one brow is very thin from a scar.
It's been raining so I made chicken tortilla soup.

For a boo boo (and seriously, the scrape was really minor) it seems crazy that it has been 2 weeks…even with the holiday in there. I brought it in on Tue. 2 weeks ago today, they started working on it Wed. There is NOT a lot of body work that needs to be done.

I went to top off my relaxing bath with more hot water, and got cold, brown water. at what point can I turn in a house as a lemon? does that work? is that a thing? when will I stop discovering new things about what the DIY flipper fucked up? mechanicals worked at home inspection, and I can fix the cosmetics. but for real, what else is left?? *I'll be showering at M's tomorrow when I drop the pups with mooch. he's going to come up and take a closer look at things when he brings them back in a couple days. I feel your pain! Sounds like we bought our houses from the same person. That’s why I call our seller Dummy. We’ve had constant problems with stuff he’d messed with.

I’ve missed a lot on this thread, I haven’t been here as much lately. Mister and I took Newbie with us to his parent’s house yesterday. They’ve asked before why we never bring her with us, so we did yesterday. They love dogs and have 2 of their own. I kept Newbie’s leash on, because I didn’t know how she was going to act with the other dogs and around several people she doesn’t know. She did awesome! She laid at my feet the whole time, except for when Mister’s Mom called her to her to rub on her. Everyone commented on how well behaved and obedient she was, and I felt like a proud Momma. Mister’s Aunt asked him a few times if she could have Newbie lol. His parent’s little dog growled at Newbie and bared her teeth a couple of times, but Newbie ignored her each time, so the dog wandered away. When we got home, Mister, Newbie and I were in the driveway and we’d taken her leash off. Somebody on the next street over started popping fireworksand Newbie shot off, running toward the noise in her “predator” run. That’s when her back end is low to the ground and she only does that when she’s after something, not when she’s just running around for the fun of it. I’m curious about why she runs like that when she’s after something. Anyway, she stopped and came back when we called her. More fireworks, and she did it again. But she came back again. She’s so scared of everything, we were surprised she was running TO the noise. I was curious about what she was going to do if she found the source, but of course we couldn’t let that happen. I’m glad she’s not afraid of the loud noise though. People were still shooting fireworks at 1am.

I have not gotten my energy back since I had COVID. I'm annoyed about this. Daily naps are not part of my lifestyle, but I'm struggling to make it through the day without one.

It actually rained here yesterday. According the local weather people, that's the first time it's rained in this area on July 4th since 2000.

Grandson and I just ate more fresh cucumbers, they are starting to come off daily.
Went out with hubs, he tilled a couple of rows I didn't get weeded and I hoed around 5 pepper plants to get them out of the weeds. I think I'm getting a migrarine, I'm having those squiggly lines in my eyes, I can hardly see what I am typing. Hubs said it was the heat, I really don't think so. But I quickly took an acetaminophen, probably should have just taken a plain aspirin.
We weren't out there 20 minutes, our weather bug says its dangerously hot out. Grandson came out and even with a hat on went right back in. He is not used to this at all.
I cut and peeled him a fresh tomato, he tasted it and said it was good but didn't want it right now. There is nothing like a fresh garden tomato, I had 2 small turnips I thinned out. I really ought to save the turnip greens off the ones I'm thinning to add to fresh spinach I have in there. I may pull a few tomorrow. I'm not about to go back out there. Hubs sat up the sprinkler for the garden for me. It's small enough now we can water it all at1 time now.
Going to lie down a bit till this goes away, have a headache too. The only thing the docs think it is, is a migraine, but I wonder. Been awhile since it has hit me.

How far out are you? I think I was napping on the weekends for 3ish weeks after I was done isolating.
I tested positive on May 25. By June 25, I noticed was back to normal.

We’ve had constant problems with stuff he’d messed with. heh. my seller was a licensed electrician. I'm discovering that he's not a very good plumber, plasterer, painter, or appliance selector. 🙄 and, no new replacement fridge today. when I checked the delivery window this am, the tracker showed 2 line items. 215-615, and 245-645. I checked a little while ago ans the 215 one was the same, but now the other one shows 7 deliveries ahead of me and a window of 5-9pm. WTF? I called in and was told that mine is #21 on the truck and they are currently at #12. I said, well I am not accepting an appliance delivery at 9pm (likely later, at the rate they are going), so I'm going to need to reschedule. this isn't an Amazon box getting dropped on the porch. what if I had kids that were in bed at that time? who thinks this is okay? ugh. so now I have to wait another week, the next available spot is 7/12. I asked to be put near the beginning of the day, and that I actually get a call or text the night before. I'm over this. this unit had better work properly or I'm going to return it straight out for refund.

She was joking, she can’t even getup the stairs to our deck. I took them a few more when we went over yesterday. She sliced them and some cucumbers to serve with the meal. Mister bought cucumbers Sunday to make his cucumber and tomato concoction, but now we have to wait for some more to ripen, I gave his parents all of the ripe ones.

@pinkcshmere - I just wanted to let you know I paid 4.99 for a small box of heirloom tomatoes - these are the tiny varieties - to put on my salad, since I was craving heirloom tomatoes, after all the talk on this thread.
Maybe next year I will be brave enough to grow some on my small patio.

My car isn’t going to be available until the end of this week. Seriously? It was a freaking scrape, I’d hate to see how long it would take to replace a bumper. This is absurd. 3 weeks?

This time last year my car was in the shop for nearly 2 months to get a rear quarter-panel replaced- it had been hit by someone with no conscience and no morals in the middle of the night, in the street across from DS and DDIL's house. DS had to pry part of the panel away from the tire so I could drive it home without it scraping. The good news: insurance paid for a loaner. The bad news: even though I had Uninsured Motorists coverage I still had a $500 deductible. I now park in their driveway and move the car if someone needs to get out- or let them use mine.

I have a 9:30 appointment tomorrow for a re-do of my state inspection. DH did a LOT of internet research, and the issue may have been related to the totally dead battery I had 3 days prior to the inspection. Apparently, the O2 sensor holds data for about 100 miles, then dumps data and resets. EXCEPT in the case of battery replacement which wipes the data. This is very similar to having a 100% dead battery and recharging it. I had not yet driven the mandatory 100 miles for a reset when I had the first inspection. I'm crossing finger, toes, knees, and eyes that maybe tomorrow I'll pass.
Today was my last time taking my neighbor to the store and I'm feeling immense relief. She said something nasty about a fellow shopper but, fortunately, the woman did not hear her.

Mix (shake) it all up and cooled in the refrigerator. I don’t know exactly what spices he uses. I imagine you can tinker with the spices to suit your taste. But it is delicious on hot summer days, which is the only time of year he makes it. His Mom made something similar yesterday, with just sliced cucumbers and tomatoes, with Italian dressing poured over them. I like Mister’s version better.

If it’s been fairly easy for me, I’m sure anybody can do it! I tend to kill plants, so it’s a big deal that I’m growing tomatoes lol. I have mine in fabric grow bags on my deck. I’m pretty sure you can do something similar on your patio!
