Earlier this week, I let side job #2 that I'm not going to continue this year. My contact wasn't too surprised since I gave a head's up a couple of months ago. I just need them to send me either a FedEx or UPS shipping label so that I can return their laptop. It's just a heavy paperweight that does me no good because they did some modifications to it. I worked on side job #1 for a bit after DD2 went to bed tonight. My contact had an issue with a return he was working so, but I was able to get it straighten out for him. I was browsing eBay for a LEGO set I had been wanting. It's generally $250 and I found an Buy It Now for $200 with free shipping. The box may be damaged, but I don't care. I'm thinking of buying it... Granted, my credit card bills really suck right now (because of Christmas) so I probably shouldn't... We’re going to need specifics on the Lego set so we can l ive vicariously pass judgment appropriately It’s what I talked about earlier: LEGO Typewriter (https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/typewriter-21327). In the end, I bought it this morning. I used a gift card* for some of it so my OOP cost is less too. 😁 * My employer gives employees $100 gift card for doing the annual physicals, and the woman’s annual appointment counts! Also, the package had already shipped too so I should have it at the end of next week.

No one ever told me if you took care of your shit and were responsible, that stuff still wouldn't work out. I was told, you will have a great life, a great house, a great job, a great marriage, and the perfect family. I was never told life was going to be this hard. There's little surprise, now, that I should expect much different. And it's still a thing to work throughOMG I feel this so hard. It doesn't help that I see the Trumps of the world becoming freaking President . .quite possibly twice. It really highlights that all of the above doesn't pay. Yet I cannot figure out how to change my nature and become a Trump instead.

I forgot about the 3 day weekend until I was looking at my work calendar yesterday. I also noticed that my next work holiday is memorial day. That is a long stretch. Same. I really would have logged on Monday and wondered where everyone was. Our next holiday is good Friday, but it still seems so far away.

I made the mistake once of starting a new job just after New Year's with an employer that had very strict time off limits. I worked in IT in hospitals. HR rules were stern. There were no holidays until Memorial Day and taking time off for the first 90 days after hire was prohibited. Never again, I vowed. I worked at the most awful insurance company ever for a few years. Their rule was no time off for the first 6 months. That was one of the least fucked up things about that place.

Well Wilbur and Charlotte have decided they are never pooping again. Can't say I blame them. Wilbur wouldn't even walk out the door. Charlotte made it out then turned right back.

Ds cello instructor left the music school "effective immediately" so we couldn't get him a card to thank him (and honestly I just wasn't on it this year and hadn't managed to do that for Christmas either). I really think this instructor is the reason ds was able to stick it out in high school orchestra with just 1 year of experience. Ds found a fingering chart or something that his instructor gave him, that had his first and last name and I found him on Facebook. I'm not a stalker, but is it stalker-ish if I message him to tell him how much we appreciated him. And that if he's ever teaching privately to let us know?
If it matters, pretty sure he's in college or recently out of college.

I bought for a seller that sells Target returns. The listing said: Retail box is damaged and has dents, scuffs, creases. The item may not be suitable for some collectors. Item is new and factory sealed. I’m not a collector so I don’t care if the box is damaged. 🤷♀️ Since it’s listed new and factory sealed, I’m taking a chance. 😁

Dyeing my hair. The forecast has cleared up, so will be attending a baby shower tomorrow. Was going to wait until Sunday to dye, but now have a corporate event Tuesday night and that is cutting it a little too close to me.

I would have to have a room in my house just for Lego set boxes judging by the tote full of assembly instructions I have.

First time sitting at my basement desk since they cut off working from home and I discovered my master bath toilet must be leaking (from the stopper, not through the floor). About every 10 or 15 minutes I would hear the water kick on for a couple seconds. Turned the water off by the tank for now. I can't hear it leaking or running at all from upstairs so that's weird.
Ghost flush? Time for a new flapper?

Ghost flush? Time for a new flapper? What the heck is a ghost flush?! The flapper is only about 6 months old, but I replaced the whole arm assembly at the same time as well with a different type and I don't really like it. Maybe I need to swap that out.

Lego boxes get recycled. We don't even have that many sets but no room for boxes. We only have the big space themed ones. I got one set $50 off because the box was bent due to Walmart putting the spider wrap anti theft thing on too tightly.
The box damage may not even be that much. I'm sure there are some people who demand pristine boxes.

Got myself a couple of instant pot cookbooks. One is a beginner one with step by step instructions then I got a William Sonoma one for some more complex/interesting recipes.

The amount of snow for here has just been lowered. We are in travel not advised territory. My coffee shop didn't open today. Do not blame them. So much of the local world announced last night that they were closed for the day for Friday. However the wind is howling so it will drift.
I have a few things I want to do today--in the house, of course.

The flapper is only about 6 months old, but I replaced the whole arm assembly at the same time as well with a different type and I don't really like it. Maybe I need to swap that out. It's when the flapper isn't creating a watertight seal with the flush valve, so water leaks out of the tank and it eventually refills on its own. Hence, ghost flush. We have one bathroom so I'm well-versed at fixing toilet issues ASAP.

What's weird is I never heard it leaking or refilling upstairs when the toilet is at most 7 feet away from my bed, but from the basement it was very clearly happening quite frequently. I wasn't sure if it was my bathroom or Carrot's, but since I've turned off the water to my toilet it's not happening anymore.

It's going to be like 5 degrees here next week, and my 12yo beagle was just diagnosed today with congestive heart failure and put on Lasix for a week, so she's going to need to pee all the time and be forced to go outside (with me, where she will pee and then I will pick her up because her feet will be too cold to move ).

We have an entire corner of the breakfast nook just full of Lego boxes, plus a chunk of upstairs closet. They’re not all that obtrusive, so they are lower priority to clear out (compared to his “nature corner” which is the rear windowseat and currently about 6’ x 2.5’ x 18” of solid clutter )

Gira - In your interviews, I think you're just bumping up against the alarming stupidity that seems to run rampant in our country today. I think you're right on about most people not being qualified to conduct interviews or make hiring decisions.
I do wonder if you might experiment with being candid about being okay with taking a slight step back for the right opportunity or some such jazz. Like just hit it head on if you have even an inkling that you suspect they think the job is too low for you. Spin it with trying new things, etc. At least then you know you tried to cover that bias.

I still have to put together my last diagon Alley house from the expensive set. I am waiting until DS moves out so I can have it displayed when I take over his room. That and I really want to savor putting the last one together.

He’s reasonably good about keeping them off the floor, at least, and I’ve recently decreed they are not allowed in the pool area (wtf kid why does this even need to be a rule)
