Fireworks are in full swing. I gave Macy and Astro calming treats and they are in for the night. Macy is hiding in the kitchen and Astro is upstairs. I'm kinda hoping it will start raining so everyone will go back inside.

While I had a kiddo in lessons today, the mom went running errands. The mom took longer than expected.
The kiddo and I had time to chat. My kiddo asked if I was doing anything tomorrow. I said "Finishing up cleaning the kitchen. going through a big closet (we usually do once a year, but last year I was on chemo so I didn't do it), and knitting socks" And then I said "Isn't being an adult super exciting?"

OMG jelloshots4all , I am soooo very sorry about your father. He really got hit with some major medical problems to overcome. Just having Shingles by itself is bad enough, but recovering from a stroke on top of that is just plain sh*tty. Am hoping the stroke is what is considered "mild" and that he didn't have any permanent, disabling damage done.
Firmly believe in prayer, so rest assured plenty will be going your way for your entire family. He had the shingles shot and their local hospital thought that his shingles outbreak was his pain. Then my sister saw him a week ago and they thought he may have had a stroke. I forced my mom to take him to a big city hospital with more resources and I had their best friends on stand by to take him. Luckily the stroke was mild. no drooping of the face, he can walk, and his memory is there. There have done MRIs of his brain and no clots. They think his afib released a clot causing the stroke, but I have done no research on it. I appreciate the prayers! Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Wishing you all, all the best. Happy for what good news there has been. They are lucky you did what you did. Good call. Hugs! ♡

I'm downstairs sewing. Making a pair or orange shorts to go with a top with oranges and lemons on it I made. This was a pattern I really like so be interesting to see how it fits. I am using basting stitches this time so I can alter them either up or down.
One kitty was helping, oh boy, he finally lay on fabric I have for PJ's and went to sleep. Nothing like cat fur on everything. I also have a dark purple pair of shorts cut out, the fabric is almost like swimsuit material so will be interesting to sew that, never have. And a knit top in white with purple flowers on it too.
Somehow, I got a spot of oil on the orange I think it will wash out, I have stuff to do it with. I kept wiping my hands over the tables and found it. It had to come off my small bottle of machine oil.
Going to sew the crotch together leaving the back open for a zipper and see how they fit, then go from there.

Doc said DH has a viral infection. Put him on steroids and nose spray, told him to call back Wednesday if not any better. And I'm clearly in the early stages. Other than when I had Covid, this is the first time I've been sick in 3 years.
And one of my staff called me while he was at the doc. Her dad has been ill, but they thought he would make it to the end of the year. He went downhill fast at the end of last week (she had taken vacation time), and the hospital put him in hospice Friday. They had a really good day with him on Saturday, but told his kids Sunday morning that anyone who wanted to say goodbye should come now. She said she wanted to give me a heads up for work, but I think she needed to talk to someone outside of the family. He ended up passing just after noon. He was in his late 70s. She lost her mom to cancer 12 years ago. That got me thinking about my dad and how I'd/ I'll be. 3 days leave for a parent passing is BS.

Good morning, erudite invisipeeps. Happy Independence Day to those who celebrate and happy fourth of July to everyone else. I hope your day unrolls easily and with no traffic jams, actual or virtual.
I'm going to go in an hour to bring Franklin the Dog to the beach. Before 8 a.m. here dogs are welcome, and we'll make the most of it. Oldest DB will be making Swedish pancakes for breakfast, too. This is a wonderful weekend now that DH is on the mend. He spent almost all day yesterday resting. I think he needed that.

She lost her mom to cancer 12 years ago. That got me thinking about my dad and how I'd/ I'll be. 3 days leave for a parent passing is BS. I hope the illnesses pass quickly. We don't get 3 days for parent passing. I suppose that falls under the 3 personal days we get a year. Or we use vacation time. I am grateful that I work in a flexible environment. I was able to get work in at night after spending time with mom when dad died. That slowed how much I ate through PTO. It upset mom that I would stay elsewhere. But, I needed to make up some work hours and she doesn't have internet. So. The retirement benefits make it so that one should eat through all their vacation time, even when they are sick.
My sick leave accrues forever, and then I can convert it to cover retiree health insurance premiums. What I didn't know is that if you stay for 20 years, your hours get matched up to a certain point. As long as I don't get sick again in the next 7ish years, I'm looking at 4 years of paid health insurance premiums in retirement. If I would have taken brief maternity leaves (and only used vacation and not sick leave)...I'd have at least one more year of paid health insurance premiums.
Even with having 4 years of paid health insurance premiums, that's an extra 96K in benefits.
Which is why I tried not to complain too much when we had a decade of no raises. They didn't touch our benefits.

LD wouldn't go in if it was too cold, but Punk was always good for a beeline to the water if I took her leash off.

Yeah, my day will be something like that. I slept over 9 hours last night- no wonder I was too tired to weed last evening. The house was 82 degrees so I turned the A/C back on- I keep it set at 80. SO, I'll exercise, clean, attack my To Do list, finish my biography of the Hapsburgs and start on "Balkan Ghosts", another great book on E. Europe.

I'm awake, bc my body wakes up early now, but trying to become functional before my parents arrive. I asked them to run by McDonalds on their way in, bc I never got dinner last night. by the time we all got moving to try, the waits were too long for mooch and I to still get to the show. ok, we will eat at the venue. nope! popcorn, pretzels, candy, etc. he made himself a hot dog when we got back to M's, and I just crawled into bed when I got back home with the pups. my stomach is making noises this am. it's been a minute since I had a night like last night. I'm still processing all of what we talked about on the ride over and back, and during intermission. but the band was absolutely fantastic, the crowd was easily the loudest one I've ever been a part of there (in a good way). but the stunner of the night was as we were talking about him and M actually being a thing now, and while discussing some general issues (I'm being deliberately vague here...) he apologized for how he behaved the last couple years before moving out.
I may post more later about this. but rn I need to wake up more. I don't think I trust myself with the jigsaw til I've finished the huge coffee I asked for. Well that's a pleasant surprise!ikr? he's got some stuff going on that he's reacting to, and he said that he doesn't like the person he is when he's reacting like that. I had to pick my jaw up off the sidewalk to look at him and say "oh, really. tell me more" that's when he apologized. I said I know I'm not a perfect person, but the majority of the shit I was dishing out wasn't me, it was me reacting to you. honestly, it was just so nice to hang out with him again, listen to music and shoot the shit, like we did forever ago before I moved down here and decided to help him out. this is how we met and became really good friends, through music. I've said since I bought this current house and he's saved my ass from plumbing disasters, that it feels like I'm seeing my friend again. Saturday night really felt like I have my friend back, and I honestly didn't think that was possible with how much we hated each other just a couple years ago.

Hope everyone is doing well. Trying to get myself motivated to get groceries especially romaine lettuce before it gets too warm. Getting rid of stuff in the fridge as well. Bigger ickier job than I thought it would be.
ETA - weird, weather.com says the humidity is low, but it feels awful to me.

good morning! I'm parked on the deck, watching Wimbledon. I pulled a muscle in my back yesterday, moving 8' deck planking while reaching. I'll live, but I don't have a big range of motion today. I think at some point today, I'll lay on the floor with my legs up the wall, to push my lower back down flat. that usually helps. sleeping on the couch last night definitely did not help. I might blow up the air mattress tonight instead. there's plenty of room since I unpacked all those boxes a few weeks back.
I want to watch the match that's on ESPN now, Kyrgios (AUS) vs Nakashima (USA) as it's the marquee matchup on the men's side today. then I need to go back to Home Depot for a 100' pocket hose. yesterday was an adventure, but the pool deck is done. I'll edit this post to add a pic, it looks fantastic. unfortunately, when we went to fill the pool, the cap blew off the top of the sillcock, and water was leaking everywhere...including the basement. I've got another sillcock out in the driveway, but the hose there isn't long enough to reach where we set up the pool. Punk still climbed in for the photo op, and was going in and out til Dad and I put a tarp over it.

That got me thinking about my dad and how I'd/ I'll be. 3 days leave for a parent passing is BS. Yes it is. When I was still working for Uncle Sam, people had to take vacation time. At least now they are allowed to take sick leave. I no longer know the time limits. When each of my parents died, we didn't even have the funeral within 3 days of death and we had been with them for 3 days straight.

DN1 and family are heading back to Toronto. The baby cam has been disconnected until they get home.
I actually agree with my sister that I would have waited until tomorrow because of the 4th of July traffic but what do we know.

We should take a pool on how many paper grocery bags of stuff is going to leave the house today
I'm about half done with the closet. So, far, two bags, plus one bag of the missy's outgrown clothes. So, three bags total. I'm about to open up a 4th....
