I'm swilling down water with electrolyte powder after mowing the lawn- nasty, sweaty work in 88-degree heat. The readings on my FitBit show it isn't as strenuous as a typical cardio workout in terms of heart rate and calorie burn but but sure feels like more work. Glad to have it done.
And I finally decided to blow the money for a travel insurance policy that covered COVID quarantine. I have a very good policy that covers everything else. Very tricky to navigate. The cheap ones had plenty of coverage for medical treatment of COVID and emergency evacuation but of course that wasn't what I needed. Ill be gone almost a month and ended up spending $339 for a policy that provided more than I needed for medical issues including COVID but only $2,000 for quarantine costs. It seems nobody offers more than $2,000 for that. But, at least I have it.

Popping in to check on everyone! It’s So tricky with the time difference sometimes. I’ve been busy learning my job and entertaining the kitten. I had forgotten what a handful they can be! For some reason she decides to Use the litter box while I’m Cleaning the litter box. Barf. So now I have to kick her out of the room when I clean up after her! But she’s been great, messy fun! Even bigger news, DD arrived in Australia yesterday for her summer break! I slept great last night with DD safely under our roof. I’m not speaking to my mom, not since last weekend when she made some really ignorant comments about the Supreme Court decision. I really look at her differently since that conversation. Of course afterwards she said it might have been because she’s bipolar. Um, first of all, why haven’t you shared your family history with us For years she swore it was just depression. Yeah, you were hospitalized for hallucinations but you only had depression? She didn’t want to share her diagnosis for years, until last weekend when she made some really shitty comments. How convenient. I have a daughter with mental health issues, it’s important to be honest about your damn health, there’s a strong hereditary component to this stuff. So that’s what has been going on in my neighborhood! I hope everyone is enjoying the summer thus far. Are you enjoying your new job?Eh, I like the people I work with, but new job is not my favorite. 🫤 There’s so much to do because this region hasn’t had a manager in ages so everything is all jacked up at this point.

If I could borrow some of your hot days, people… it’s been so windy, it’s been very kid in the home because we are up on the 16th floor. Usually we don’t hear anything so it must be bad out there. Luckily I have a teeny commute to work. Then I come home this afternoon to work from home. It will give DD some time to sleep in.

I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook...I will not fight with my mom on Facebook... I stopped following my SIL. It means I can look at what she's posting whenever I want but it keeps me from engaging. If we talk face-to-face I find we have a lot of common ground, but it never seems that way on FB and it's public, so I avoid it. Oh, I stopped following her years ago due to political differences. She had replied to an article my aunt had put up about decluttering to help get control of your life and got all judgy about disorganized people knowing full well how much I struggle with "stuff" and never being able to find anything. She has a ridiculous amount of stuff, but is also ridiculously organized. Everyone is supposed to do things like her or they're just doing it wrong. Period. It's maddening.

Got Gwen a mini soap making kit at Aldi.
I told her if she enjoys it I can buy her more materials for her birthday in a couple weeks.
We raided the kitchen and she made coffee soap, honey soap, lavender/green tea soap and rose/hibiscus/cherry soap.
One is already hard. She's excited and proud of herself.

My son and I are NOT FFB friends!! I like my privacy and he likes his According to my kids I have a cousin that puts all the drama with one of her kids all over Facebook. No thanks. The girls and I have our moments, but we don'Tht go ranting about it all over the internet. The drama between my sister and me has all been vented here. Not a word on FB. I take that back. At DN1's wedding 10 years ago, I was not included in the family photo--the one with mom and dad and her entire family. I did comment about it and both she and my niece apologized and said they didn't think about it. NIL thought about it and her family photo had all of her family in attendance. Only one person was left out and that was me.

Thank you for the well wishes. Dh is better. Hasn't gotten out of bed, but better. I made sure he had meds this morning and then abandoned him to take the kids to comicon.
Comicon was fun. A little too crowded and I forgot to bring my walking shoes to change into which sucked. Dsis has an amazing sadness costume (from Inside Out) and dd and I piggy backed on that to dress as Joy and Anger. Ds was a video game character (no idea what the characters name is, but he looked like a priestly Darth Mal with horns). I don't know why I didn't realize he expected me to do his makeup, but we got through it and it actually looked really good.

DD1 is starting middle school in the fall. She’s somewhat afraid of the stove and oven. I’m trying to get her more comfortable. She’s been wanting to bake something and we have various mixes. She tried one earlier and the recipe had way too much oil. Now she made some fudge brownies from scratch. I had her do majority of the baking including taking it out of the oven. They look really good!
Today, we also forced DD1 to clean her craft room. Hopefully now that’s there’s space on her table, she’ll use it. She has no summer camps for the next 2 weeks, but she does need to work on her summer project for middle school.

I wish we could find something for DD1 to do. She doesn't want to stitch, knit, sew. Gardening is out. She used to like writing for a while. I don't know where that has landed. Painting for a little bit.
She was like this with sports. We tried swimming, soccer, gymnastics, dance, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball. Finally cheer was the only thing that really stuck. But she is bored if she stays at home. She will read. But she just watches tv.
The answer isn't that she spends 5-8 hours a day with her friends every day. We just cannot do that. I'm happy to send her on trips, but it's too much for her to be on big things, and doing things back to back. I think that's part of the reason why she got in the state she was in.
I bought her a big lego set (the upside down). It was assembled. She took it apart so she could build it. She messed with that for like 2 hours, and that was the end of that.

Eggs Benedict for breakfast this morning, I just finished composing a lasagna for dinner this evening to shove into the oven later. I’m cooked out.
The fireworks have started, not as many as there could be as it’s raining. Harriet is not happy, so I now have a trembling dog on m6 lap. She was under my feet in the kitchen. Poor pup.

finnime hope your DH heals quickly!!! I have only read the last 2 pages so hugs and prayers to others who need them, and cheers to any good news!! Life has been non-stop the past 6 weeks so I haven't been on the board. 2 graduations, trips, my dad being in the hospital twice, and non stop work. I took Tuesday off so I have a 4 day weekend to catch up on cleaning, yardwork, and hopefully sleeping!! Exciting news though!!! My daughter got engaged last Saturday!!! I've known from her boyfriend for almost 3 months as he came and asked me, then took me ring shopping with his mom. My son and I and his parents were there last Saturday night hiding when he proposed on a pier, so we got it on video. I am so happy for both of them!!That is sooo cool about hiding and recording your future son-in-law's proposal. Also loved that you and his mom were included in the ring purchase. He sounds like an old fashion, all around nice guy.
Hope your dad is doing ok now and that whatever landed him in the hospital was not too serious.
Realize that you have a very busy life, but also hope that you're able to check in a little more often - you have been missed
Thanks skeeter!! Thank goodness he asked me to go with his mom ring shopping because I figured out what diamond shape she wanted being a spy, and I'm bossy so "directed" him in the rigth direction. Her ring is stunning!! I told him when he asked me, "good she can be on your payroll now"!! I made my son go with me today to visit my parents. My dad got out of the hospital Friday after I forced my mom to take him last Sunday. He had a stroke. Almost went into a diabetic coma and has shingles. I know today hit my son hard seeing his grandpa like that. But he looks better than last Monday when I met my mom in the hospital. We could use some prayers!!

Enjoyed the festival, great to see friends and performers and eat street food. But it was crazy hot, upper 90's with the heat reflecting off the pavement too. At one point I had to sit a bit before continuing the rounds. I can't even imagine how the performers handle it with all the heavy costumes

Talked to son and DIL, they got the greenhouse up we gave them. Son said it was a ton of work for he and DIL, but it looks good. It's 8 X 10. Think they will need it as she said the deer ate all her expensive roses and left the cheap Walmart ones.
They have red type fencing around the garden, the safety kind. Someone at the base gave it to him, they found it laying in a field. He did raised beds out there, now says he will have to do them in the green house. They are using some of the huge easement behind them. He talked to the utility crew and since he mows that area, it belongs to his lot really, they are good with it.
His wife walks the dogs a couple of times a day and one of the neighbors who sees her walking invited her to go with them to Olympia. I guess she is from India so that is really nice. Today son said they met the couple on the other side of them. He is from India too and IT for the state police and his wife is American and a social worker. He must have been working in the yard. He told them if they cleared the rocks on one side of their lot he would be happy to mow the weeds down for them. Their lawn is pretty bad and it's a new house. She told them they are mostly inside people and not outside, he said their home is spotless. Maybe they will give DIL some incentive. Son keeps the outside really neat. Their son is 11, he said he told them his was only 7, but he said his mom said he would be glad to play with son, I think he might be lonely too. Son said he seems like a very nice boy. So they are starting to get to know some people. He said the wife had 2 motorcyles, her husband doesn't, LOL!
Hubs gave him a welder and he is tickled to death, finding all kinds of little things to fix with it.
He said they were both pretty tired today. She was worried if little guy was eating. He always eats good here. Eats anything and everything and was he being good. We haven't had any problems with him. He is happy as can be, running around singing. We are letting him play on his iphone some. But when we go somewhere or ea,t he puts it up. It's so hot here and I couldn't get a pool so not much to do.
DD and I get our hair cut tomorrow no Tuesday, wrong day. Then Wed and Thursday taking them to swim lessons, next weekend to the fair in the city. So this week will finally be busy. Hubs is taking him with him tomorrow.
Ok, shower time for me, then little guy. He is big enough now to take care of himself much better, makes it easy on me. I have a friend 1 year younger then me and her DD just had twins last summer. The other 2 grandkids are older. I don't know how she is doing it. She had a son and daughter almost 10 years apart and now her daughter has done the same. I don't think I could take care of little ones anymore.

OMG jelloshots4all, I am soooo very sorry about your father. He really got hit with some major medical problems to overcome. Just having Shingles by itself is bad enough, but recovering from a stroke on top of that is just plain sh*tty. Am hoping the stroke is what is considered "mild" and that he didn't have any permanent, disabling damage done.
Firmly believe in prayer, so rest assured plenty will be going your way for your entire family.

Lessons on soap. Tea leaves get everywhere when you use it. So do coffee grounds.
Then kids need to listen to the parents when they say the essential oil they have isn't skin safe. That one went in the garbage.
The honey one came out decent.

I took my Mom 2 tomatoes when I went over there yesterday. She’s one of those people that will eat a tomato by itself, with a little salt and pepper, so I’ve planned all along to share them with her. I sent her a text today asking how they tasted. She called me. Apparently DD and my Grandbabies came over and DGD 2yo took the tomatoes and ate them lol. My Mom said she just got a few bites of one of them, and it was delicious. DGD didn’t really want to share, so my Mom didn’t get to eat much lol. I told her that the variety I gave her, tomato lovers say it isn’t all that flavorful, but it does taste better than what’s in grocery stores. She said she if that’s the case, she can’t wait to taste one of the other variety I’m growing that’s supposed to have more flavor. I am really getting a kick out of people enjoying something that I grew myself. I found out today at work that my coworker that I gave my mutant tomato to, showed other coworkers pictures of it and told them how good it tasted. There may be a monster in the making regarding growing vegetables. My backyard is big enough that I have plenty of room for a garden. But my backyard is also scary to me because of the monsters out there. I’m going to have to really work on those fears because I’m really interested in growing vegetables. My tomatoes are in grow bags on my deck. Mister bought me frames to make beds in the back yard, but I’ve been procrastinating mostly because……. Bugs. This is how we overcome fears I have made a little progress recently. Not so much that I’m ready to deal with the monsters in the yard though.

Then my sister saw him a week ago and they thought he may have had a stroke. I forced my mom to take him to a big city hospital with more resources and I had their best friends on stand by to take him. Luckily the stroke was mild. no drooping of the face, he can walk, and his memory is there. There have done MRIs of his brain and no clots. They think his afib released a clot causing the stroke, but I have done no research on it. I appreciate the prayers!

Under the circumstances, you did good

Neither kid is afraid of the oven or stove.
They showed interest really early. DH was more nervous than they were.
We had burns and they got splattered but they learned there was nothing to fear for the most part.
Gwen has been practicing knife skills.
She can make grilled cheese, eggs, spaghetti sauce and has been working on making Ramen from scratch.
Both can bake.
