Grandson is here for a few days. Doing chores for me, replaced furnace filters, shoveled snow away from garbage shed, put in windshield fluid in car Will be making a spice cake for later Raining now You had me at spice cake. My favorite! That used to be my mom's thing growing up. She would make a 14x9x2 sheet pan of spice cake from scratch and frost it. That was her favorite family dessert to make.

Good morning, warrior invisipeeps, fighting the good fight for safety, health and familial peace. Welcome to Wednesday. I hope today brings you solutions to issues and peace in your homes, and some excellent ice cream or other dessert of your preference. I'm listening to the rain pound and the wind howl.I'm glad I got new windows last year, listening to the wind. We're due for more hours of this but it isn't nearly as bad as some of you have it. Stay safe, everyone. I applied for a job with the town, as Principal Election Clerk. It's very parttime, 19 hours/week and non-union, and pays only $21/hour but it won't interfere with our lifestyle and would be interesting, I think. Elections this year should have much going on. I have no idea how it will work out, but I have hopes. Yesterday we ran some errands. Today we won't. I was going to get my eyes examined at Costco for a new pair of glasses, but DH talked me out of it, saying it wasn't emergent and the wind would be so high it could be unsafe in our little Prius. This was yesterday well before dawn. The tiny dinosaurs get restless as the sun gathers itself for rising. The red sky pretty accurately indicates Weather to come, as the rhyme says.

Pink Cashmere, I'm saddened to read of Boy's misbehavior. It is a serious problem to destroy your peace. I agree, he needs to be neutered asap. Maybe Mr. T can help Mister see the light.

My new client is a guy I worked with at my long term job. I had problems with him there, although our boss made things worse than they needed to be but he ended up changing processors which I was happy about. I said I was happy to work with him here. But the files he's sent have been bad, they were rushes, not set up, he didn't tell me that he was unavailable for some of the time, etc.
We're working through them and I can deal with growing pains but he says he has another 2 week refi that I think I'm going to tell him he needs to find someone else for. It's a risk especially if that one is clean I'll lose his business but I think I'm more at risk to lose my other clients when I'm so tied up with rushes.
It's hard for me to make those choices though which isn't great for my current career choice.

Need to get moving for the day. Just really want to crawl back into bed. SAME. Triple same. It astounds me that the roads are not great. I live in an urban area. They didn't have to pay folks only overtime/night differentials. This is the first time this winter season we've needed plows. They even pulled garbage to plow. We had advanced warning. Our street got plowed out less than an hour that we had to leave for school. Some of the main roads are like, Really?

Still, I meant what I said about not letting him sleep with my children and grandchildren anymore. He hasn’t been aggressive as far as trying to attack anyone. When I said something about him starting to display protective instincts, I was referring to how he has started barking and growling when he hears someone moving around the house in the middle of the night after everyone has gone to bed, and won’t settle down until he knows that whoever is moving around the house is someone that belongs here. That is a problem because he is in our bedroom and the door is closed, so he doesn’t know who he hears moving around in other parts of the house. But once he knows who it is, like if it’s me and I say “hey Boy, it’s me” (YD still won’t do it even thought I’ve asked her to) or we get up and open the door so he can go investigate and see who it is (YD) he settles down and immediately goes right back to bed. Our youngest dog does this (he's a 1.5yo male wirehaired pointing griffon, neutered around age 1). He is often on alert for noises, even during the day when he hears the UPS guy outside, etc. The vet said his breed and intelligence (though I still think he's dumb, haha) make him a more anxious dog and less trustworthy, but it's usually just men that he doesn't trust. Which is strange, because he had a good upbringing and we got him as a puppy. He will relax but still give a bark or two even if a new man has been in the house for a while. However, he loves all kids and women and has no issues with them coming right into his house. Maybe something about the way men smell? Who knows.

I just had a my first 1:1 with the boss for 2024. we talked about how he's been ignoring sending me the "why haven't you come in to the office?" email partly b/c he thinks it's a stupid mandate for our roles, and partly b/c he doesn't know how he would backfill the work I do for my sites if I were forced out. so he's trying to keep me flying under the radar as much as possible, and would I be able to make appearances here and there (still not meeting the 2x/wk metric) which I can probably figure out. he's also trying to figure out how to document site visits and have it count as "time in the office" to make things look a little better. my only site in MA is one I worked at previously, and is easier for me to get to than either of the offices I've been assigned to at this company. lol...
so that's good, I guess. still kind of uncertain limbo, but whatever. I'm still looking for fully remote positions, but nothing seems to be sticking. I also haven't really made it a priority b/c the "mandate" hasn't really been enforced or even completely explained to us how it's being counted/tracked and what the impact to bonuses will be. I made clear that if I took a hit to my bonus by not coming in, then that was understood and a conscious decision regarding the worth of my time. I do not want to be the reason that my teammates' bonuses take a hit if the metric is measured by the group overall - which idk how that could even be tracked with two folks being classified as fully remote. boss expressed frustration there as well, b/c he's specifically asked that question and gotten no answers.

Thank you for doing that. Let us know when you hear back from her. I've been texting with her and she gave me the okay to share. No big updates. She said she's pretty overwhelmed and today is certainly not her best day. Her kids were just getting back to the room. Thank you. I'm sure you passed on to her all the good wishes and YMAM hugs expressed here. Looking forward to a speedy recovery and her return to posting here.

Gira, I do not know how the Missy and the peanut have gotten that old. My prepared food pick up is today. The roads are horrible. I am leaving in one hour. I don't want to go but I'm not throwing away my money if I can get there. I can get there, I just won't like it. I will treat myself to chai on the way home and probably an item off their lunch menu. Hoping toomuchreality's problems have been figured out and are being dealt with. She has not felt well for a long time. Going to have to see if I kept a pair of blue jeans. I think I need more than my comfy pants today when on the road.

It was snowing…..briefly. Thermometer has it at 36° out, so if it does snow, it won’t stick.
Coffee and a quick visit to the grocery store is on my agenda for this morning. I bought some picked Dungeness crabmeat at Costco on Monday, and want to make crab cakes. I have found the best ‘glue’ to hold the cakes together is making a paste of a few raw shrimp. Guess I need about 1/3 lb once they are cleaned. I don’t put a lot of other stuff in them, just a little sautéed red pepper and red onion for some texture.

That is my line in the sand when it comes to pet behavior. With a cat, I have taken them to the vet and I have brought in a behavioral therapist. Those worked. I don't know what I would have done if it had not but I will not have an animal peeing all over my house. That is not something I am willing to deal with either. Especially since I am the only one that tries to keep the house halfway clean. I had to use the small spot cleaner to clean what ran onto the carpet when he peed on the bag in the living room. The carpet cleaner didn’t work properly when I tried to use it a few weeks ago. I asked Mister to see if he could figure out the problem, because I’d tried, with no luck. When Mister was sick and sleeping in the other bedroom, I saw that Boy had somehow got hold of the cap to one of the tanks for the carpet cleaner, and chewed it up. It was laying on the floor in that bedroom. I paid over $200 for that carpet cleaner after we moved here, and I’ve used it regularly because of the dogs. I am sure it will irritate Mister for me to bug him to replace it. But I don’t like nasty carpet with spots all over it. I already bought what I needed to handle what was an issue for me. He can either figure out if that one can be fix and the cap can be replaced, or buy a new, comparable one with his own money. Or he can pay for a professional to keep coming to clean the carpets. Which, now that I thought of it, would actually be less work for me, if I refuse to spot clean all the spots from Boy getting into something he shouldn’t, and throwing up. So maybe that’s my solution, professional cleaning that Mr. Moneybags pays for, as often as necessary. I think I’m going to just make an appointment for Boy to get neutered and tell Mister to drop him off on his way to work. I think I'd just make the appointment too. He probably also doesn't want to break the bro code and take the little guy's nuts. Too bad. Neutering helps with a lot of the bad behaviors Mister seems ok with ignoring. You're doing the right thing. You know that if this behavior continues and something happens and someone gets hurt, it's automatically going to be Boy's fault because he's an "aggressive breed" and he will be labeled an aggressive dog.

I think you need to flash-freeze and send those crabcakes east, The Walk of the Penguin Mich, so they can be tested. I have lemon. I'm glad, chiver78, your boss has your back. It would seriously suck otherwise.

I think I’m going to just make an appointment for Boy to get neutered and tell Mister to drop him off on his way to work. I totally agree with making that appointment. Even after surgery, keep a close watch on Boy. My vet told me a long time ago that if neutering doesn't change aggressive behavior, sometimes you still have to hire a professional trainer, rehome them, or in extreme cases put them down. Never let any child be alone with a dog who has shown aggression. I don't care how much Mister "loves" him, the dog is showing his true colors. You wouldn't forgive Mister or maybe even yourself if someone in the household were attacked. Yes to all. I never allow children to be alone with any dog whether they've shown aggression or not. At the new place where there are kids running around, I always stay right by the twins. I first check the area to see if any kids or dogs are outside. Then they are let out one at a time tied up and I stay outside with them. When I see kids outside that come running up, I yell out that I have a big dog outside. They usually just run off. If we're going to the on-site dog park, I take T2 with me. I can wrestle one twin if I have to, but not two.

Back from the grocery store. Bought cider at DH's request, so then I got fresh salmon to cook in it. And cabbage for either steamed or slaw. Dinner will be good, but I will be awaiting delivery of The Walk of the Penguin Mich 's crab cakes. Also got chicken drumsticks @ .79/lb. Looking up recipes now. Then I'm going to do organizing and straightening so I can report some progress on the declultering thread.

We are on vacation and I’m enjoying a mimosa on the deck overlooking the ocean. I’m sorry for everyone dealing with shitty weather - I’ll try to soak up the warm sunshine for y’all I’m enjoying being disconnected for the week, but I’m also a little anxious about it. I haven’t been this disconnected in a LONG time. But I’m also enjoying watching all the bickering going on via email without feeling any need to respond and knowing that it will be resolved when I get back. Also, I got the unofficial word that my full promotion should be finalized by the end of March. So, I’m trying to quash the anxiety bc clearly I’m doing something right, lol. Maybe a second mimosa will help

There’s not even going to be enough for Sheldon. Last time I made these, it was just TD and myself. There were 2 crab cakes leftover. The next morning, I made crab cake Benedict, putting 1/2 on each muffin. Soooo good. No5 going to be enough to do this again.

When I went to Costco earlier this week, I bought a couple sets of towels. I noticed that the ones we have been using are looking very frayed. They should, the newest towels are 12 years old!
I now need to cull the linen closet, and will take these to the Humane Society. They are always in need of towels.
