Things are never the same when grandparents are lost and than parents. It's just sad, just cannot recreate the same experiences and feelings.
When I lost dad between my birthday and our wedding anniversary we didn't celebrate for years, I just couldn't. And it was sad for the kids because they were very close. That's why I want to leave good memories for our grandson, he doesn't have much family and half of it he is only likely to see 2 or 3 times in his lifetime.
He is feeling better but I'm still on antibiotics and getting a sore throat?
Ok, need to get DD's hair clean for her. Will do it again Christmas eve to treat the psoriasis.

I will be shocked if I don't have a migraine tomorrow. I've been washing down chocolate with fireball and baileys. All the triggers... But, 24 presents wrapped and ready. Woohoo!

Good morning, diligent invisipeeps, readying for the holidays. Welcome to Saturday, Christmas Eve eve for those who celebrate and Saturday for all. I hope your day sees everything go smoothly, that you find lost things and health abounds in your families and in you. Today like yesterday is very cold to start, 21 degrees right now. Which makes me wonder, when us boomers are dead and gone will the US finally adopt the same measurement standards used by the rest of the world? They taught us using Celsius and kilos and other metric measures when we were in elementary school but since they were not used I, for one, have mostly forgotten them. Medicine does use them, so that was successful. Other places, not. I suspect we are the holdups. Our kids and grands will think nothing of it. Ran errands yesterday with DD and finished wrapping all that there is to be wrapped. Decided to load up a stocking I bought for DH with flashlights, because he can never find one when he wants one. Now he'll have 10 in various sizes, including one key ring version. The grocery stores here are having price battles over roasts. Yesterday I had to pick up blueberries and sweet potatoes then wound up with a standing rib roast, over 3 lbs for $25 instead of $70. It will be good until mid January. I'm going to clear and clean everything in every room today. Cooking tomorrow before we go to the 7 pm candlelight service at church. The sun rose in a clear sky yesterday. Well before dawn the bay looked wrinkled in the wind and the light was purple.

giramomma, DS had a lot of ear infections as a toddler. He needed speech therapy starting in kindergarten and the therapist commented that he would benefit from seeing an ENT doc. His tonsils, which were huge, were blocking his airway when he spoke certain sounds. They came out and he never had another ear infection, nor did he need speech therapy for much longer. Just another vote for taking Missy to see an ENT.

I'm so glad, Pink Cashmere, that Mister is seeing a therapist. That can only benefit everyone. Merry Christmas.

oh, no. I was looking to add heat if you did remove them. I typically remove seeds bc I find them bitter, but ribs in hot peppers are tasty. esp in anything blended. thanks for the extra detail, definitely making note to try this next time. 😀 ETA - I meant ribs when I said stems earlier. not sure why that was the word in my brain. I got a very hot batch of serranos today, waaay hotter than I’m comfortable with. The sauce got a glut of cream tonight. I threw the whole peppers in without taking out the seeds and ribs. Always hard to guess what you will get with peppers. I usually leave half intact and remove the seeds on the other half.

finnime , your Christmas Eve eve reminded my of a good childhood memory. We were traveling home from visiting family in Buffalo and as we got closer to home we got caught in a snowstorm. This was mid 80s and my dad was driving one of those old long station wagons with the wood paneling on the outside. We got caught in a trail of accidents and DSis (she was about 8yo) started asking mom and dad to tell her what her gifts were because "we were going to die the day before the day before Christmas". It has been a running joke in the family to remind everyone that it is "the day before the day before Christmas" ever since.

Well, the missy puked up her antibiotics. I'm not sure how, exactly, she's supposed to get over this ear infection. I know you mentioned the Drs at the walk in clinic might not be skilled enough to diagnose & treat your DD, but do you have a Children’s hospital ER? Maybe some outpatient IV meds would help? Sorry she is so sick & miserable during the holidays.

I still have pneumonia (didn't go to DGD1s dance recital on Wednesday) and DD2 tested positive for Covid today. I think we'll celebrate Christmas next week.
The inspections I was supposed to have during the last week, didn't happen. They didn't even knock on my door. Oh, darn.
I haven't opened my mail in over a month. It's just a big pile and getting bigger.
Nothing matters much at this point.

Did FaceTime with granddaughter in AZ yesterday. She had just received the cookies we sent her (chocolate dinosaur cookies).
Was just talking to DH about how parenting has changed DS. When he and his wife first had their daughter 3 years ago he was adamant that they were not doing Santa Claus and all the drama of Christmas. I’m not sure why he was that way. So fast forward 3 years and they are took their daughter on a trip to Flagstaff AZ to a Santa’s workshop all day tour. Christmas is fun time with kids.

I'm 40 and I still love Santa.
Santa Claus: the movie is one of my all time feel good movies. It has such a good message and the sets are phenomenal no CGI all real since it was the 80s.
I read The Santa Chronicle books. The Great Santa search is my favorite.
Santa is all over my house in various forms. My two favorites are my Santa Troll doll and a blown glass Santa riding a tractor.
I geeked out when I got to meet real reindeer a couple years ago. The "real" Dasher and Vixen.
The world is going to hell in a hand basket.
I feel like we can let kids dream and imagine there is dude in the world who just lives to make people happy.
We need "Santa" nowadays

Damn, I'm getting sicker. I was up and down all night, no rest. Coughing like crazy and throat now sore. I am miserable. The antibiotics are doing nothing. I wish they would do like back home, give me something to knock this and a shot to get it started. If this keeps up, guess who won't be able to cook Xmas dinner and have guests. I am miserable. Finally got up and sitting in my recliner and even that isn't helping. Just shoot me now please.
I'm beginning to think if I live up here I will never be well again. I sure hope not.
Going to stretch out in the recliner again. I have gargled warm salt water. Now I'm sipping on a coke with ice, nothing is helping.

It is pouring rain so nothing going on outside. Fortunately, I mowed the whole yard this week and we really do need the rain. It is cold out there (for us) and dark and I have some hot tea here.

I actually look forward to the grey and chilly days because tea tastes so special then - it's truly warming. Like you, we in Texas don't normally get truly cold, but tend to shiver at anything under 60.

We're getting light rain. I think I'll go ahead and start the meat sauce for lasagna, then find something to do while it simmers.

alright, I'm up and being functional. sheets/towels/couch throw blankets laundry is well underway, and I've got the dishwasher running with the stovetop grates. stovetop has been cleaned, and I'll work my way through the whole kitchen for a deep clean today. I think I'm going to take a few minutes and try on the two large bags of stuff from SHEIN that finally got here, to see if I want to keep any of the swimsuits. I can drop the returns bag at the UPS store near Walmart when I go there later (I know.... it's 12/23.... but I need more shredded iceberg for the pups. that's literally right next to the door, and I can be right back out as long as the self-checkout line isn't halfway around the store.)

I use to hate opening our garage door when I use to leave for work before dawn. We don’t have bears where I live (thank goodness! LOL!), I was more concerned about alerting 2 legged animals that I was outside and vulnerable. It’s the door itself and the stuff it moves along as it moves that’s so loud, and not the motor itself. When we had the springs replaced, the guy added grease here and there to make it quieter, and it worked for a while, but he also told me why it’s not good to keep doing that, reasons that I have since forgotten. I’ve realized since then that it’s not quite as loud outside as it is inside the garage, but even outside, it’s still loud enough to announce that the door is opening. OAN, its the holidays, give yourself Grace about your lack of willpower regarding food. thank you, we did just that and killed a blue box of Kraft Mac and cheese between us. It's been a couple of decades at least since we did that and 2 a.m. will not be pretty around here, but dang, that was tasty. We've agreed to make it our once-a-year guilty pleasure. At our ages we don't get many of those Am I a auper fatty since I can eatbone of those boxes by myself? Just asking. I'm thinking so.

The missy is much better today. She slept in until 7. No fever.
We're figuring out how to make the antibiotics more palatable for her.
I made rollo turtles and I've got candied pecans going in the oven right now.
I think I have enough variety that there will be something for everyone.
I'm also trying to make a few in my inlaws staples that they don't make anymore, because there's just two of them and a 9x13 pan doesn't work anymore.
I'm glad I got a few things out of the way early.
DD1 wants cinnamon rolls. We missed ordering from a bakery, so I'm doing those from scratch. I don't think I can do pre-made.
I like this approach that I'm taking. The, stop when you are tired approach. It is very novel for me.
