Sleeping on a cot at O'Hare is not a way to get much rest. Ask me how I know. About the time I finally fell asleep, employees came around at about 3:30 AM to wake us as Security opened at an early hour for overseas flights and they had to do a security check. What a short night. It could not be helped. A tornado had come through. We saw the windows shaking. Our flight's boarding was delayed so we were inside the terminal. I pity the people that were on the tarmac as they came back to the gate and said it was a harrowing experience rocking and rolling in a plane with no protection. Luckily, we had taken all of the cots before those people realized they were not going anywhere that night. All planes at the airport had to be inspected for damage. Not quite as bad, but the second time I went to Jamaica, I got stuck at the airport in Atlanta on the way home. Our flight kept getting delayed because of bad storms. I am already pretty much terrified of flying, even though I will do it to go where I want to go. So I wasn’t upset that they were erring on the side of caution regarding whether it was safe to fly in the storms. BUT I had to be at work the next afternoon. I considered just renting a car and driving home, because I was worried about getting to work on time the next day. A 5-6 hour drive vs a flight less than an hour, but my flight had already been delayed for as long as it would’ve taken me to drive home. We were finally able to fly out, and I got home in the wee hours of the morning. The first time I went to Jamaica, when we were getting ready to land in Atlanta when I was coming back home, there was the descent to the runway, and suddenly the plane swooped back in the air, at an angle steep enough to feel it. There was another plane in the way on the runway, so we had to go back in the air to avoid a crash. Did I mention that flying terrifies me? That experience almost gave me a heart attack! I have been stuck so many places, it’s not funny. Houston, Atlanta, Manchester, Syracuse, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Seattle are all places I’ve spent the night due to weather. Almost got stuck in Detroit, carrying Gizzy with me. We finally boarded the plane just before 1 am. I got stuck in Syracuse and Manchester because my flight could not land in Burlington, so dumped us off at the closest airport they could land at.

Trying not to stuff my emotions must be working lol.
This morning I got mad when I first went in the kitchen. I knew it was a wreck when I went to bed last night, but I didn’t feel like dealing with it. So this morning when I went in there, I was fussing and cussing, out loud, and loudly. I don’t “talk to myself”, so that was different for me.
Then, this afternoon, I just started crying. Not sobbing, just tears rolling. I tried to get my shit together and stop before Mister got home, but I couldn’t. So he started pestering me about why I was crying, and I kept saying I wasn’t crying, even though I clearly was. I just didn’t want to talk to him about it. I’d stop, and randomly start again a few minutes later. That went on for at least an hour after he got home. I know he was pestering me because that was very unusual for me, but I really didn’t want to talk about it, so I yelled at him a couple of times “I’M NOT CRYING”. Because leave me tf alone!
I know that is some crazy person type shit, but I don’t care. I do care that I will be looking like a nut when I work my side gig tomorrow, because my eyes will be swollen. Well, really, I’m kinda whatever with that too, I will blame it on my allergies if I can’t get the swelling down before I go.
I still don’t know what else to do other than keep working on getting my money back together, and pray for some guidance. I am pretty much done talking about relationship shit with Mister, although I am willing to listen if he wants to talk to me, which I don’t see him doing on his own.
I have an appointment with my counselor next Monday. I hope I can stay on track this time, and talk about me and not about this shit with Mister.

Oh, for crying out loud. I bought the wrong headlight bulb. That's what I get for just doing a quick Google search and not taking the time to pull out the old one first. I showed Carrot how to change it and let him at it. He kept insisting it was wrong and I didn't believe him. It HAD to be right, thats what the Googles said! 🤣

I finally got DH to weigh in on the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menus. Christmas Eve will be our traditional bagels and lox with capers, red onions, etc. And maybe the crazy good pecan bars from a local Kosher bakery which sort of fits the theme. I'll get the bagels there too-they have 15 varieties made fresh daily. Christmas Day he wants tamales with Spanish rice. I'll get the tamales from a local place, maybe a mix of chicken, pork, and spinach ones. That sort of means we will need to get some tres leches cake from a local bakery. Which requires lining up for a couple of blocks along the street leading to the bakery, waiting our turn to get in the parking lot on Christmas Eve day, as directed and enforced by sheriff's deputies. They are that good. We haven't talked about New Year's Eve and New Year's Day yet. We may do New Year's Eve dinner at our local French/Spanish bistro, or may stay home with caviar and blinis, plus a take-out Manchego cheesecake from the bistro. Whatever we do, it will be a late night as my tradition is to celebrate midnight with my neighbors in the street in my big pink fuzzy bathrobe. The neighbors do fireworks in the best or worst way possible - the size and volume truly rivals many official firework displays - so you can't really plan on sleeping until after 2 a.m. Either way, I'll probably do something like a stuffed boneless Cajun chicken and stewed cabbage on New Year's Day. Get the pineapple or sweet corn tamales for dessert.

I got stuck at O'Hare because of a snowstorm when I flew to London to see the Concert for George. The flight from Heathrow kept getting delayed but they didn't tell us it was because of a snowstorm.
When we finally land in O'Hare, it's late at night and there are no flights to Des Moines, Iowa. Before cell phones were common. The line to rebook was very long, so I called the hotel where I had stayed for Beatlefests and got a room. I was there for 3 days before I could get to Des Moines.
At least I was in a nice hotel room.

I saw a FB meme over the weekend. it was something about the current generation going out on a Tuesday night and calling off work the next day. but those of us of a certain age went out, rolled in sideways with enough time to brush teeth and get to the office still dressed in last night's clothes with the bar stamp on the back of a hand. he's practicing, so he can join the adults at the table. 😉

You are correct you can draw SS and work, but if you do the amount doesn't grow larger each year till you draw it. It is a huge difference, I like a fool took mine at 62 when I did not have to because I wanted some of my own money. Whatever you do, at the age you can get medicare sign up for Medicare A, it costs nothing. As long as you can show proof of continuous, credible insurance at time of retirement you won't pay a surcharge. I think that law is still in force. You will find that the cost of living is really going up. Our rentals helped a lot and we are seeing a difference already. We both are very concerned about moving to a higher cost of living area with less income. We are still thinking about what we need to do. Of course its up to each of you, but you can never have to much money as working class people in retirement. We hope to do whatever we are going to do this year, we need to do it before we are not able. I also read as long as you have 10 years of work history there is no charge for it. It makes a huge difference if you have a pension along with SS also. That will help our son as he will have one. And his wife can draw off his earnings too. Just look at the various scenarios is all I can suggest and if you are paying for a supplement remember it will go up each and every year. Drug, B, and the supplement, all of them. I hope Biden's drug idea continues, it will only if he gets another term. But you are collecting the SS payments for more years. When I calculated it out for myself, I came up with 8 yrs to break even. I'm not waiting. I want the extra income while I'm healthy enough to enjoy it.

Pink if your supplement works like my brother's, at age 62 it stops. He didn't have to start drawing SS, but his pension was reduced by the supplement amount, so without signing up for SS he had a lot less money every month. Yes, it does stop at age 62. I’ve never heard or read that taking the supplement reduces our pension amount. I will look into that, to be sure. Thank you for sharing how your brother’s works. No. I guess I wasn't clear. His pension didn't actually change. They just eliminated the supplement amount at age 62.

Another part of the SS equation is how much of it is taxable in retirement, either by the Feds or the state. I quit working full-time at 54 to retire with my DH. I worked part-time off and on through 2010, and took my SS at age 62. We basically invested it in the market and earned a substantially greater return than we would have experienced by leaving it until my FRA. Exactly. Plus, nearly all my gains in my brokerage account are long-term which are currently taxed at 0%.

My name is taz157 and I'm a nerd. Recently, I watched Lego Masters and they had contestants build different objects from an old-time private investigator's office. One of the items that could be chosen was a typewriter. None of the contestants chose it; however, it lead me to look to see if you could build a Lego typewriter. Spoiler alert: You can!! Lego TypewriterI've been eying it for a couple of weeks now. I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, but I may... I was talking to coworker about it and she thought it would look great in my office!! I agreed!! I would have been awesome if they had a calculator too!

He has had the ship in a bottle set together on his desk now since last Christmas...so he's getting there. Still don't trust him though.

My thinking was that if I started retirement debt and mortgage free, the supplement and pension might be enough to not use my retirement account right away and let that money grow for a few more years. Then at age 62, when the supplement ends, figure out what’s next.
When I got serious about retiring asap, my intention was to try to be okay with 2 legs of my “3 legged stool”, because I was concerned about the future of SS. My hope was that planning like that would give me some flexibility regarding where I pulled money from, and when.
When I first came up with that plan, the general, idea I had of the numbers at that time, seemed like it was possible to make it happen, and I started gradually increasing my contributions to my retirement account,
Now I’m all, over the place again with my planning.

I would leave PC at 5am on Monday after partying Sunday night at bar called NoName to get to work by 8. Lucky that boss and crew were working on big out of state job. I could change and put on makeup when I got to office. But I was a youngun at 42 when that started! Lordy I had a blast in my “youth”.

Figuring out where I can sign the paperwork for the condo without having to pay $180 fee. I am in the sticks and let's say that I am confused at the moment. It's going to be a interesting rest of the day. Holy moly! I hope you find someplace. $180 is a good chunk of money. Especially a few weeks before Christmas. Good luck! Depending on which Location for the Title Company. I thought I would be able to do Thurston but I have to do Pierce or King County in order to have the cost taken off so Pierce it is. I sign Wednesday late morning. Really hoping weather has not messed traffic up that bad. It will be a 2 hour drive if no rain.

With no hiccups and good weather. It will be so nice for you, to finally have all these details behind you and to just be able to enjoy your life, going forward. ♡

Y'all, I underestimated to drive to and from Texas. I'm not doing that again. Next year I'll just pay the money and fly. I knocked out so early last night and slept do deeply. Macy didn’t want to go upstairs, so I left her and just took Jackson with me. She must have decided she lives downstairs now because I left my door open and she never came up. I didn’t even make it through the Chiefs game. They sucked last night so it didn't really matter. I felt so groggy this morning like I'd slept for a week or something. The sun rises, The sun sets., Sill in Texas!

This last time it was store brand garbage bags that were on special, just ordinary kitchen bags. A store manager had grabbed a ladder and got me a box. It was the "flexible" version of this garbage bag, so not on sale. I noticed that after it did not scan, and one team of self-checkout employees could not figure it out. They showed me the box again, and that's when I saw the word "flexible". The highest tier of garbage bags designed to prevent things poking through. Rarely on special.

It was a day or two after Easter, so I had several clearance items in my basket. They all rang up full price. We had to go check the price and signage for every single item and he wasn't pleasant about it. At the end, he suggested I shop somewhere else! I didn't make the mistakes, he did! He didn't know who I was, we'd never seen each other before. I wasn't ornery, although I wanted to be. When I got home, I called their Corporate office and told them (without exaggeration), about my experience. That's how I found out he was the new manager. The store security guy got fired, for threatening me and the manager was moved to a different location. WTF?! Quality personnel, for sure.🙄

I usually end up giving up some of my clearance items just because of my lack of patience. Also, sometimes Grocery store A has the item on sale and Grocery store B does not. They are in different regions so the sales flyers are similar, but not identical. Not sure if I have ever dealt with the store manager at either of these locations. ShopRite is a big grocery chain and I have been to numerous locations over the years.

Good morning, you invisible founts of wisdom. I hope your Tuesday offers tacos and a delectable dessert, and that all your travels now or planned are smooth. I, too, have definitely benefited from the collective knowledge of this board. From home repairs to 3D printers to form filling to cruise lines to recipes to car purchasing, I've gained a lot. Thank you. Pink Cashmere , you can ask how I know but uncontrollable tears and general irritability are often symptoms of clinical depression. You probably know that. I want to spend New Year's Eve with soupandstew . It sounds like a blast. And I have fuzzy slippers! Yesterday morning was heavily overcast and dark. There were the typical hundreds of Brants at the shore edge, paddling in parades and gathering on rocks to gossip.

This is why I hate when my kid does these long weekend jaunts in the middle of the semester. It's not like we don't get snowstorms shutting down airports around here! At least he got a good taste of what can happen without it being a more than one day deal. My daughter works for an airline. She flys standby all the time. She often did her homework in the airport. She had a few issues where she had to ask for an exception to do something early or late. She just came back from 2.5 weeks in FL on a confirmed tix. Flight was overbooked, so she volunteered to be bumped for $300. I thought she should have asked for more, but she wanted the $, and she didn’t want someone else to underbid her. She had to wait 3 hours for next flight. DD is very tan. She now looks like she is Mexican. She said at dinner “I look like Dad”. She said she was using SPF 50 Sunblock on her face and she still got really dark. My daughter’s natural skin tone is pretty fair, people don’t look at her and think she is Mexican. She has shocked a few people by speaking fluent Spanish in front of them. Going to get up. I have a lot of work on my desk. Worked a good 10 hours over weekend. Just an extra 1.5 hours yesterday-I had to leave, I was so exhausted I couldn’t function. My back has been bothering me too, but I told DH I would still walk the Dogs. I think moving sometimes helps. Then I unloaded and loaded the dishwasher before I went to bed - my back was absolutely killing me, but it just had to be done.

Must have been something in the air last night. I went to bed before 7. Not to sleep, just aggravated with DH. Had NFL pregame on and he put his earbuds in watching youtube videos. If you're not going to interact with me, I can lay down and be comfortable (small back issue). That offended him and he tried to convince me to get back up. Nope. Watched a couple of shows on my phone and was asleep by 9. He came to bed around 10 and asked if I wanted a kiss good night. I did, but was still in a funk.
Hopefully today is better. Didn't burn that half day last week so today might be the day.

A friend bought the Lego typewriter for his wife last year. If we had a bigger house we'd have more Legos. I don't have the Harry Potter ones for this reason. DH has several of the big space ones.
It's my last in office day for the year. I'm going to try and clean up my desk some. I also get to leave early for a doctor's appointment.
I swear I will get the living room cleaned up enough tonight to make room for the Christmas tree.

I have bright green, fuzzy, Grinch slippers and several choices of Christmas pants. One pair of pajamas with sheep on the pants. The top says " BAAAAA.... HUMBUG" above a single sheep. Can I come too? PLEASE!😁
