Do you not let anyone else use the dishes that you own? What's the difference if you wash it? You can buy new in box Corelle off ebay though. Those serving bowls looked to be about $18 NIB. I get her ick. We all have our quirks. I won't wear second hand clothes or shoes. People always tell me "you can just wash it". No girl, I don’t know what you been doing in those jeans. I can’t stomach the idea. No hate to those that do it, it's just not for me. The only things I refuse to wear second hand are underwear & shoes. I had heard years ago that Princess Diana gave her Plantar warts to Princess Sarah (Fergie) when they were sharing shoes. I had Plantar warts as a kid, and was stunned to learn more recently that they're a form of HPV virus. Now I'm wondering if THAT's why I had to get an ovary removed.

All the feels for you all right now, with the job communication. And there's no positive intent to spin on it. It's authoritarian "leadership," if you can call leadership. Those in charge believe they have the right to control who is told what information when. So we end up doing our jobs with incomplete information. What's even worse is that leadership also have a hierarchy within themselves. There's the big 3, and the rest of leadership. It's like if the CEO only thinks that they should have to work with the CFO. So the COO is just out to dry, because they are not perceived as valuable enough by the CEO and CFO. My supervisor, who is leadership, is not in the big 3. Shoulder-shrugging, I dunno and asking for confirmation/clarification are my top/most often used responses, aside from "Everything is awesome," because we need to be positive.
Which, is literally, why now I'm doing mostly entry-level work these days. And it is perceived that I have expertise. And my problem is I still care too much.

I’m in my car in the school parking lot. I’m trying to out on my happy face. Today is day 5 of the first goal of getting through 15 work days. Here’s an email that my boss sent to me yesterday: Can A and C please do some cross training so balls do not get dropped when C is out? That’s the entire email. I have no idea what ball was dropped. how helpful. since you're in self-preservation mode, I'd respond back to ask what specifically she'd like them to cross-train on, CC'ing both of them for visibility.

Drama - I felt snarky enough even asking directly why he didn't use reply all button. There's no coaching him. He's like a squirrel with ADHD.
Gira - I hear you. My boss isn't caught in authority leadership. It's simply incompetence.

Got my blood drawn, finally got breakfast (1st stop was out of kolaches ) and brought back Christmas stuff from the locker. And took a peak in my suitcase and there was my missing Kindle.

The manager at the last tax office emailed me what she wanted me to work on. I don't know why she didn't ask me to come to her office or come to my desk, but she didn't.
I would come home in the evening and find she sent emails to my home email, which we were not allowed to access from there. She would say to me I wasn't prompt with work assignments. Kind of hard to do when you don't know you have a new assignment until you get home.

Finally got the insurance info from TD, so have to include it in the package to send out to GenVisa today.
I also need to return 2 pair of jeans to Talbots. The first ones that I ordered were so big that I could pull them off while clasped. I went down 2 sizes, rather than one. While I could get them clasped, I don’t like the feeling of them plastered to my legs. I guess I should have gone down only one size. So if I’ve got to go to FedEx, I may as well also drop off a package at UPS.
Supposedly we are at the start of a 7 day Pineapple Express. Not horribly cold, but a lot of rain.

ooh....I just lost all productivity for the day. the Boston Globe published a 9-part series on a 2+ year reinvestigation their Spotlight team conducted into the murder of Carol Stuart in 1989. this was the case where her husband shot the pregnant woman in a predominantly Black section of Boston and then blamed a vague "skinny Black guy" before passing out on the way to the hospital. she died overnight, but not before delivering their son via C-section. that son died 2w later, and the husband Charles ultimately jumped off the Tobin Bridge when he realized the jig was up. I'd post the link, but my sister says it's behind a paywall. I'm going to print it all to pdf for her when I'm done reading, would be happy to share if anyone's interested. The Walk of the Penguin Mich - I'm not sure when exactly you were in Boston, but I do remember that you and I share some nearby stomping grounds.

I thought the Spotlight team conducted investigations to solve or bring attention to crimes (I loved the film about the clergy abuse scandal). Is there a suggestion that the husband wasn't actually responsible?

Is there a suggestion that the husband wasn't actually responsible? I'm not done with it yet, but the implication in the early chapters is that the original detectives thought it was Charles from a couple days after the murder, but that the brass and city leaders went with the utterance of "Black.......man......" and ran with it. as far as what they investigate, that's a pretty good observation. that's most of what they do, but they do deep dives into other stuff as well. another recent series explored NIMBYism in some tony suburbs that happen to have T stops, that are now required to up their affordable housing percentages in order to keep some government subsidies. these towns aren't being painted in the best light, to say the least.

Ugh, Chloe, that's terrible communication. If it helps, my boss is notorious for not grouping his emails to read all responses. He's constantly responding to items that have progressed an add'l 2+ emails. Plus, I've also been watching that he never uses the reply all button. He seems to either respond just to me or to pick and choose who to reply to from the email. Last week, I got a little snarky and responded privately just to him and asked why he chose to leave 2 people off of a list of 5 instead of just replying all. He emailed back, oh I guess I forgot to type those two in. <facepalm> Way to miss my point, dude. Is he older? Is he aware a reply all button exists? It sounds like he spends time typing each individual email address in. Hey, that is a shmear on all us old biddys and fogeys. You bet most of us know how to click on reply all. Call it efficiency or laziness but reply all is a wonderful little button to click.

I had left Boston by then, and was in TX but was really interested in this only because it happened where I caught the bus daily. It definitely gave me the chills as I walked by that area daily. I had never thought about it being a particularly 'bad' area of Boston, but as long as there were a lot of people in the area catching the bus, I really didn't worry about it.

In my volunteer work I have a fellow director who insists that "reply all" is unprofessional (he's a Realtor) and illegal. I've never heard the unprofessional part before, and it's only illegal for those entities (governmental and private) who function under Open Meetings/Open Records laws where a reply all may constitute an illegal quorum. We are not that type of entity but he won't reply to anyone but the sender so we usually have no clue what he's doing or thinking. And then he whines that no one addresses his concerns. Aaaah, poor baby!

Good morning, indefatigable invisipeeps, as you make your way through the days. Welcome to Friday in December! You made it this far. Got to choose your accomplishments to focus on and celebrate, and making it this far is definitely one. So plan on a small individual celebration and do it. You could have hollandaise sauce with your eggs, or listen to an entire beloved album, or wear happy socks, or drink eggnog, or light candles in your bathroom when you have your shower or bath, or splurge on a new socket wrench, or call someone you love but haven't spoken with in a while. So many choices. It's warmed up considerably in the past 24 hours. Now it's in the 40's. Have to get out my lighter weight winter coat, put away for Thanksgiving. Today I need to prepare for having a table in a fair tomorrow. I don't expect much at all from this one. It's at a Catholic school in a town I lived in during my teen years. DH signed up for it thinking he'd sell some cards and I think/hope he will, at least enough to cover the fee. Got what I think is the last box of a shipment of frames from Michael's yesterday. They had a BF buy one get two free sale so I went for it. Hoping that will take us through most of next year. And yesterday I got a sweet image of dawn at the beach: Stunning photo!

My sinuses are giving me hell again. I have some leftover chicken breasts I baked last night to top baked potatoes with. I’m going to use those to make some chicken noodle soup this evening. I got the bright idea to try a recipe this time, because we have some fresh celery, carrots and green beans I want to use up I usually use canned vegetables. I usually just wing it, and it turns out good. If I try a recipe and don’t like it, Imma be sad lol.
We will still have fresh celery and carrots we need to use somehow, instead of throwing them away. I told Mister we throw away wayyyy too much food. I cooked salmon the other day, and roasted some of the carrots. I’d never have thought to do that, until it was part of some Hello Fresh recipes when we were getting those delivered. I was surprised that I liked it, I’ve never been a carrot fan. With the salmon and carrots, I also roasted some broccoli, but it wasn’t much, because the older broccoli had gone bad. So I cooked some of the fresh green beans to make up for not having enough broccoli.
Oddly enough, as much as I hate cooking, I am actually kind of enjoying cooking with fresh vegetables. I don’t mind the chopping as much as I use to. I think having a large, nice cutting board and good knives has helped a LOT with that task not being so bad anymore. I refuse to use fresh garlic though, because I still hate mincing it. It’s so small, and it makes my hands sticky. Me no likey.
I went looking for a smaller cutting board like the one I have, but the company that made mine, doesn’t make mahogany cutting boards anymore. I think it’s mahogany, I was sure when I was looking for another one like it lol. Mine is great for when I have to chop several things, but because it’s so big, I’d like the option of using a smaller one when I don’t have much to chop.

Just started the low dose beta blockers for migraine prevention last night. Not sure it’s entirely down to them since my sleeping habits are absolute shit lately but the extreme tiredness side effect is coming through full bore Pulled the trigger on transferring funds to donor advised fund last night, still on the 2023 to do list: need to get the sped advocate sorted and do the RMD from inherited IRA. At some point it’d be awesome to figure out Christmas gifts all round, just not feeling it this year

I think I may get one more Christmas gift for DH: a portable SSD. He's paranoid about losing his pictures since, over the years, he has actually lost some as PC's and laptops falter. I assured him 100 times that we're okay; that Google has complete copies of everything. But he can't accept that. I can relate. So an SSD it is (I think.)

These recent posts made me laugh ... my pet peeve is that too many people ONLY use reply all!!! Um, maybe think for a nanosecond before you hit ANY reply button?! So when our Head of Department wishes 180 of us a good summer vacation, or a good Christmas vacation, I suddenly get at least 50 UNWANTED emails wishing our HoD a good vacation. And another UNWANTED 50 wishing ALL of us a good vacation!!! Plus the 20 or so emails telling people to stop using "reply all". It's NOT just "Boomers" that don't know the difference between "reply" and "reply all". ETA: Not to mention the fact that if our HoD used BCC, THAT WOULDN'T HAPPEN!!! Using BCC is NOT that hard!!! Even this Boomer can do it!

well, the landscapers are gone. phase 1 is done. crushed stone and wood borders are all laid down. there's a beautiful 6x6' cedar plank flooring platform laid out in the outdoor shower area, and a full fall cleanup is complete. in the spring, they will come back and re-grade the discard dirt across areas needing to be filled in, spread topsoil and grass seed in those spots, and figure out the mulch border in the one area where there will be mulch. they will also build a privacy wall for the shower area so I can use it for myself next season. that's handy, b/c I'll be taking down the floor tile that's currently my main shower surround (I wish I was kidding here...) and that will be out of commission for awhile.
I'd planned to get Chinese takeout tonight, but after writing out the check for the balance plus additional scope creep and the $100 tip for each of the two guys, I'm just gonna pull something out of the freezer tonight. woof. lol...
