from what Mich has posted about her sister, I think she'd fit in well down there. From my admittedly very limited anecdotal data of family that was born and raised in Arkansas and Oklahoma and a different cousin that tried to move to Nashville I don't think having things in common is enough particularly for that area of the country. The outsider mentality can be very strong so unless you have a community to plug into its really isolating. I didn't get the impression that Mich's sister was very religious just a deep red politically. I could be wrong, but that's tough too. Church isn't necessarily a plug and play community but without it that hill becomes really hard to climb. A guy at my job bought some land in a small town in Arkansas a couple years ago, about an hour from our job. It had a house on the land, but it needed a lot of work, or imo from what he’s described, to be torn down. He’s a white man and he has been having trouble with the (white) people he’s had to deal with to pass inspections and try to get the house back up to code so that it is livable. He had to start going over there several times a week, to run off drug addicts that had been gotten use to hiding out in the house because it had been abandoned for so long. For whatever reason, he thinks it was retaliation for him constantly disturbing them and making them leave, they set the house on fire. The fire Marshall tried to accuse him of setting the fire, but he could prove that he was at work an hour away, when the fire started. That pretty much sums up the kind of people in authority that he’s been dealing with. They don’t want to fool with him and are uncooperative because he is an “outsider”. He and I have chit chatted over the years, and I’ve never gotten the impression that he’s a liar, or the kind of person to make stuff like that up.

I wrote obituaries when I was in school for faculty, mostly emeritus. I did some research for most of them and was often able to throw a bit of interest in. So, Robert A. Jones, Ph.D. Economics, emeritus Hawthorne professor who taught for 17 years, passed on December 11, 1980 after a short illness, attended by family. Dr. Jones was awarded the Stewart prize in 1971 for his discovery and furthering of the principles of scarcity, which he studied his entire career. He was also a champion figure skater and known for his fondness for hosting debauched parties on random Thursdays. He will be remembered by the Wharton School and students whose lives he helped expand.

DH got fired today. Retail sucks. Past that, I'm not sure about much of anything these days. Being YM I guess I should say I bring in 82 or 83% of every dollar? Something like that. I haven't checked my spreadsheet lately. We are not in a bad position per se. The mortgage will still be paid. There will be food on the table. Kiddo will continue with all her extracurricular activities. DH did carry our benefits but I will take care of that tomorrow. Things now are just.....different. I want DH home with us more instead of working so many nights and weekends. DH agrees. Based on my searches this afternoon there are also a lot of jobs available that he meets the requirements for. We don't need him to take any job anywhere immediately just to get a paycheck though. Thankfully. I think, at least for a couple of months, we are going to look for something that has more traditional 9-5 type hours. Even if it means a "cut in pay" from his (now) former job. Kiddo will grow up fast. She already has. Having DH home at regular times is worth it right now even if it means a decrease in hourly pay. So.....yeah. My day has been interesting to say the least. I’m sorry that your DH was fired, instead of leaving his job on his own terms, but I am glad that you all can be okay until he finds something else. I agree wholeheartedly with him trying to find something that gives him more time with his family. Now he is free to do that for him to do that without concerns about a job search interfering with the job he already has, a silver lining if you are open to seeing it that way and looking for silver linings. I am wishing the best for you and your family, as always.

DH and I finished taking a shower. It was fun and maybe illegal in some states such as Arkansas.

I like that condo Mitch and a decent price. You are right the prices there are crazy high.
We go back and forth about buying a different place up there later after we sell here or just living in it. It just doesn't fit our needs. We can probably add a shed and expand the storage building but still wouldn't own the land. And I hate to admit it I think we are both a little bit of snobs anymore. It's very clean, but modulars and trailers. Yes, they are fixed up nicely and the place is super clean, but, its still a trailer.
We have plenty of time to decide. yet.
I got into the patient portal at the hospital complex where hubs is going. I read through the reports and it stated the cancer has not metatasized, and is not in his lymph nodes or glands so that makes me feel so much better. Why haven't they told us this? He does have an appointment with the surgeon Friday so maybe he will. Still its cancer and says it has more on his left side than the right in the tumor I suppose. I'm just hoping it has been caught early enough. He has some elevated labs but nothing crazy high. And as we know his blood type is O and the other stuff is negative.
Son called tonight and he was relieved. Also he said tomorrow he has a full physical scheduled, I'm glad he is doing this, he needs to.
His dad asked him if he had orders to go to the Middle East yet, and he said no nothing yet. If he did likely Israel or maybe on one of the ships. We are just hoping he doesn't have to go there, but you never know. Likely some of them well, and I think the units he is with would go there.
I'm heading for bed early again tonight. I'm just worn out and why I don't know. Hopefully not coming down with anything.

I'm just worn out and why I don't know. Hopefully not coming down with anything. With all my issues with healthcare providers, I have learned that it is necessary to just ask questions point blank. I don’t mean to offend anybody that works in healthcare but my stance is that they are working for me, because I am the one paying them, even though it’s with help from the insurance company that I pay premiums to, for the insurance. I believe most Doctors do their best to see about their patients, but the bottom line is still that I’m the one that has to live with whatever health issues I have, and they don’t, so it all matters more to me (well, it should) than it does to them. And now I’m going to fuss at you. You have been talking for a while now about being tired all of the time. I don’t think that has to be just a part of aging, especially when you have always been so energetic and vibrant. Your DH has been getting tired recently, more than he use to. Now we know a likely cause, because his body is fighting cancer. I think the drastic difference in your energy is something you need to try to figure out with your doctors. I know that people slow down as they age, but you aren’t “old”, and what you talk about seems to have been a sudden, drastic change, vs just gradually slowing down as you age. I don’t work in healthcare, but that just doesn’t seem normal to me. I implore you to talk about this with your Doctors, and work with them to rule out anything that might be going on with your health that might be causing it. I am only fussing because I care about you.

The budget committee meeting went two full hours but it was productive and I feel the group really coalesced and got on the same page on issues.

Mister said something today that made me want to argue about groceries again. But I held my tongue while I marinate on what I’m going to say.
I told him that I stopped at the grocery store today to get some more salad greens, turkey for the salads or sandwiches, and shredded cheese, and how I was shocked at how much that cost, $30.
He zoned in on how much the turkey I buy costs. It IS expensive because I buy Boar’s Head, and it costs more now than when I first started buying it. But I like it, and he has even said that it tastes better than the packaged deli meats like Oscar Meyer or whatever.
Anyway, today he said we might need to adjust our taste buds and not buy stuff that costs so much. Which made me think that if he spent less money on junk food, that would be more money to use for real food. But in the heat of the moment, I didn’t know how to say that calmly, since we just had an argument about food a few days ago.
I honestly don’t know how to navigate this. I am still cleaning up the financial mess made from all the work I’ve missed due to my health issues, so I don’t have the money to spend like I use to. But when I do buy groceries, my shopping habits are very different from his. I didn’t even buy a lot of junk food when I was raising my children, I bought snacks they liked, but it was limited. That was even before I got into trying to eat “clean” as much as it made sense for my lifestyle.
Mister has been “spoiled” with all the things I’ve regularly spent money on to keep our kitchen stocked with necessities and other groceries, and other stuff I made sure was always available to make our home comfortable and have what we need at any given time. Now that my money is funny, he is having issues with paying for that stuff, even though I only ask him to pay for necessities when I can’t.
When he came home from work today, he asked what was the smell in the house. I’m tired of my bedroom smelling like dog, and my house not smelling good, so I’d scraped some money together and ordered some refills for the Bath and Bodyworks wallflowers that I unplugged many months ago because I ran out of refills and didn’t have money to buy more. He immediately noticed the difference and was pleased with it, but it is obviously not clicking in his brain that it cost MONEY for our house to smell good. And then he had the nerve to say he was taking the one in the laundry room to, work with him tomorrow, for his office, and that almost went sideways when I said no you aren’t, unless you give me some money to buy more plugs and refills, since I am missing several plugs (which is another story) .
If he takes it to work anyway, Imma be mad.
All of this kind of stuff upsets me because even though I don’t shove receipts in his face to show him how much money I spend on food and making sure we have household basics like cleaning products and other stuff that keeps our household running, I feel unappreciated.
To add to that, I have noticed that there is a lot of shit missing in my kitchen. From dishes, to utensils, to dish clothes, a lot of stuff has mysteriously disappeared. I’m not inclined to replace all of that AGAIN, on my dime, because I know for a fact that I’m not the reason that stuff keeps disappearing. When I lived alone, stuff didn’t disappear. Here, it’s not just children, I’ve been in Mister’s car and seen dishes and the “good” silverware hanging out in there.
Just another random vent. And I am grateful for having a mostly safe place to vent about all of that, while I try to figure out how to handle it IRL.

I saw something about Disney hiring data entry people to WFH and it paid up to something like $23/hour. I don't know how that compares to what he made, but it's not a bad gig once you take all the expenses out of commuting to work.

No need to feel silly about that. I wish we had a warning like that, here. Better safe, than sorry! I wonder if I'd run out to the street? I don't want to be buried in rubble. I'm glad you and your home, are safe! That might be my go-to once we are past the proto type period and have an idea of how long we have before the shaking starts. I live in a second (top) floor condo and really done want to be thrown of the stairs when a big one hits. Those stairs are very steep. True. I'm on the 3rd (top) floor of my apt building. The stairs are made of concrete and pieces break off all the time. Sometimes most of stair is missing. And the railing that holds the stairs together, is made of metal, that is embedded in the concrete. If either the concrete, or the metal gave way,the whole thing would go. I'm not sure there's a good option, if there's not a a good length of time, prior to it hitting. Usually, I stay in place and hope it's over soon. I didn't know there was such a thing as a warning signal, for an eathquake. Stay safe!

She could get a huge house in Arkansas for that amount of money. Just saying. Texas COL is way lower than WA also.

Can I just say that I hate cooking on an electric stove? I started my burner early to account for having to wait for it to heat up. Couldn't figure out why my pan wasn't getting hot. Turns out I turned on the rear burner and not the front. So then I had to wait eleventy billion minutes for the front coil to heat up. On a gas stove, I have instant results. Cooking takes forever now.

That stove was old, and didn’t have settings like electric stoves, to automatically set the amount of heat, like low, medium or high, or somewhere in between the three, but the flame was a visual cue, and I had no issues adapting. It’s not high on my priority list to make it happen, but I definitely wouldn’t mind being able to cook on a gas stove again.

I want a induction stove when I need a new one. I think those do heat up/cool down instantly but maybe I am wrong. Would you please chime in with your experience With those The Walk of the Penguin Mich ?

Wait......when I asked about your son's military health insurance, you said he was no longer in the military. The above sounds very military-ish.

Walk why do you say that? Lack of providers? Son works for DOD, he is no longer in the military and is looking at various plans to choose from as they can sign up for new ones once a year and enrollment is coming up. I am really going to have to dig into all this for hubs and I and for DD before we move and don't make a mistake. We have good plans here and are able to get into docs here. I dropped by DD and mine this afternoon and requested a couple of scrips. She approved and they are ready. We seem to have some really good ones here and are even having another medical building going up at our small town hospital. We have dialysis now, a separate docs office building, well 2 now and its growing.

weltz, does Simon have access to a group in Canada that he can work with to get support and maybe some ideas about what next? In the US there is an organization, NAMI, that offers resources. Simon needs a plan B, or C or D, to guide him through whatever happens next.

Good morning, you beautiful yet invisible people of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Thursday. I hope today is a good one for you in which people you love find solutions for their problems, jobs and money and chocolate materialize as needed and no one pees in your Cheerios. Today DSis is going with DH and I to visit a cemetary in Cambridge. We'll do some photography--it's really a lovely park--and go after for a bite before heading home. Should be no rain today. Glad to see your community board meeting went well, soupandstew. Wow, that's weird. I hear the printer going. I did not send any jobs to it and DH has been asleep for hours. I checked and it was something DH must have done, obviously before he went to sleep. He's been focused for some time now on getting things together for our photoraphy and wall decor business. He designed a logo to use at the Finnish festival, end of the month, and this print job is part of that. I'm really happy to see him so engaged. Yesterday's sunrise was slow and lovely; a delicate palette of colors washing the sky among the clouds.

I hate electric stoves. Takes forever to warm up and then it's too hot and I'm burning crap.
I was very pleased with the turbo boil burner on my new stove last night. Pasta is much faster now.
