Found a cast iron skillet for $6 at the thrift store. It needs rust removed and reseasoned but I'm excited. I've been searching since DH tossed the one I got as a wedding gift. It had rust so he threw it away. I wasn't home to stop him and the garbage had already came. 15 years later I'm still pissed. I told him don't touch this one. Reddit has a cast iron group and it has a lot of information about reseasoning and removing rust. I know how to do it. Which is part of why I'm stilled annoyed. I could have fixed it! I loved that damn skillet. Wish we had my grandma's. Mom thought either grandma gave it away or sold it at a garage sale right before she moved into this house. We never found it.

Anyone have a mesh network at home? And a recommendation for a brand? I was getting information overload trying to read about it. I bought a Deco mesh system on Amazon. 3 units that I was able to install easily. Works really well

So I’ve been trying to find something good to read, to try to get back in the habit. I like Alexander McCall Smith. I also enjoy James patterson. I can't really read anymore. They say now adults have a less than a minute attention span. I do think they are right. I would like to try to read Macbeth and then watch the movie on Apple TV while we have it.

I loved that damn skillet. Wish we had my grandma's. Mom thought either grandma gave it away or sold it at a garage sale right before she moved into this house. We never found it. I have a cast iron skillet that my Grandmother gave me many years ago. I rarely use it now because it is so heavy and I have to take special care of it and can’t just stick it in the dishwasher. Mister gets it though, and understands that it is not the average skillet, because he has a story about how he got in a whole lot of trouble as a child, when he tried to clean and “fix” his Mom’s cast iron skillet. His “good deed” did NOT go unpunished So he knows and understands what he has to do if he uses it, after, to clean and take care of it. He also made sure OD knew too, because she use to cook a lot when she was at our house. I think my skillet is probably older than I am, and I am keeping it for forever, whether I use it or not. My Grandmother didn’t buy it to give to me, it was one that she’d been using in her own kitchen, because that was pretty much all she had in her kitchen and cooked with, cast iron pots and pans. I used it a lot more when I was younger…. before my hands, wrists, arms and shoulder got wonky. My Grandmother died 10 years ago, but she loved cooking and baking, and she is still present in my kitchen, because she gave me stuff I don’t use often, but also some other things that I use all the time.

I was just reading. Jimmy Carter will be 99 on October 1. He's been in hospice at home now for 7 months. He doesn't have a terminal diagnosis; he just got weary of going in and out of the hospital and decided on hospice care.
I really hope he makes it to next Sunday.

Mister just came outside and asked me something about whether or not he might be feeling anxiety. 2.2 seconds into my answer, he ran back in the house. I’m talking, and trying to keep it short and sweet, and zoooom, he was done and gone in less than a minute.
We are both clearly kind of crazy right now.
But at least I did say before he ran off, that he needs to talk to his therapist about it. I hope he heard that part, even if he didn’t hear anything else. Good grief!

I'm putting together a schedule of things to do, places to visit in October, November and December. Mom arrives next week. We plan to visit Lancaster, PA and Hershey, PA. Also going to visit the Essex Steam Train and Gillette Castle. We want to go to American Dream in NJ. Then a lot of local activities. Lots of planning and lots of $$$$ My social life has not been the best lately. A lot of planned activities got cancelled, including an engagement party today due to expected bad weather. It's been pretty mild but we may still get heavy rain and winds overnight. I am now running a Meetup group. It has its good and bad points. You get to go out and meet new people, but at the same time there's a lot of planning involved, and the last minutes RSVP changes and no-shows can be dragging. I think I'm handling it well, but we don't have a large group and I've had to cancel events because nobody signs up. This is an economically depressed area which has a lot to do with that, I think. Someone recommended changing the group location to a more affluent area about 25 miles away. I may do it next year. I want to give this area a chance first. I'm also unsure what to get my mother for her birthday in October. This is a woman who loves surprises and gifts, but she has everything. I've gifted her jewelry, purses, creams, clothes, perfumes, shoes in the past. I'm running out of ideas. I asked her and she said she'll choose her own gift. But I know she loves surprises. I got her a painting from Overstock.com. It's an oil reproduction of a Van Gogh painting. I have one and they are very good quality. But she already knows about that gift. Lancaster is a really cool little city. Lots of restaurants, breweries, etc. Lancaster County is a also a nice area to visit in general. If you're going to be in Lancaster, you'll only be an hour away from the King of Prussia mall via the turnpike (since you're talking about visiting American Dream in NJ it came to mind). Go do some luxury shopping! Lol. I haven't been to Hershey Park in forever but did just attend a pride event in Hershey with my niece in June. Again, cool little town. And the fall in PA is absolutely lovely!

This is so weird. The people that lived behind me moved out about a week ago. For at least a few days the back door of the house has been wide open. I want to close it so nothing gets taken, but after all this time I'm worried about animals being trapped in their if I close it. Also it's not my house so not my problem.

So now our cable and Internet have been out for about n hour. This has been happening much more frequently since I power started going out a few months ago.
But at least the cable and Internet was going out during the day time, when we had other shit to keep us occupied than trying to find something to watch on tv for the evening. I am NOT happy.

Glad to hear the Lancaster area is a good place to visit. I plan to use my remaining PTO on that trip. I know we'll have a great time.
Today I was talking on the phone with my cousin Paola in Uruguay. All my cousins are now in their early to late fifties. We talked about how scary it is what some of them are going through. One is in hospital due to complications from a surgery on his ear to remove a benign tumor. This will be his TENTH surgery in 5 months. Looks like some fluid in his body is causing damage and he even went through spinal surgery to try to remove it.
One cousin is dealing with depression so bad that he cannot stop crying. The psychiatrist advised he cannot be alone because he's a suicide risk, and they are considering hospitalization.
A third cousin has been fighting cancer for three years, chemotherapy, and a lot of pain and suffering.
Life is short. Nothing is assured to anyone. I plan to enjoy the next few months of this year to the fullest. And I'll also enjoy my vacation time in Uruguay through January. I'm in vacation mode and in ME mode.
I've had a bad year and some change since July 2022. Hitting 50, hormonal changes, losing a beloved pet, changes at work, etc. I'm doing my best and I have my days. But for sure, I'm going to enjoy myself for the next few months.

Well, I'm up. DD1's gentleman caller called. Well, more like he pounded on our door at 10:30 this evening to ask her to homecoming. We were alerted as DS came into our room right as we were falling asleep and said there's someone at the door, and he's all freaking out. <sigh> ETA: and the darn hot flashes. DH rolled over and put his arm around me. I told him to take it off, lest I chew it off.

Good morning, empathetic invisipeeps, moving the world one nudge at a time. I hope your Sunday is rewarding of your efforts, and that there are doughnuts to be had. Jelly doughnuts. Or chocolate or even pumpkin, your choice. It is officially autumn, after all. Today will be rainy but not raining all the time in the wake of Ophelia. BFF in Maryland lost a tree. It was about 40' tall and fell over, root ball and all, fortunately away from her house. She had been thinking of taking it down anyway. My EF is really low. Moving DD was not budgeted, and it cost $$$. Since she was scammed out of everything she had it has all been funded by us. The last of it should be this week, paying men to move furniture and etcetera from our house to next door, and also paying for a grab bar to be installed in the bathroom there. DD has some mobility issues and uses a cane. I did not budget to move her or to support her. Once she's moved she can pretty much support herself. I don't want to take anything out of our extreme EF or certainly not our final EF. After that, we just have regular income for the year. I'm thinking of other ways to get some money that allow for us to keep on keeping on. DH has a bucket list that also calls for expenses. I need, I think, to look into doing some consulting up here. Yesterday Franklin the Dog and I did make it down to the beach before the rain commenced in earnest. I was able to get quite close to this tiny dinosaur, a Great Blue heron wading.

Surprising, how close that tiny dinosaur allowed you to get. Does Franklin also get up close, with you? He must not bark and chase after them. A well mannered dog, at the beach, would be a nice surprise. I hope things go well, as you help your DD move, yet again. Doesn't it seem like it should be easier to move, when it's close? Funny, how it still takes so much work!

I have not been up this early on a Sunday (or any day really) in quite a while.
I'm meeting a friend at her barn for training as I'm taking care of the horses there while she's on vacation. Its storming again too. Perfect sleep in weather. 😕

And my poor husband, who was looking to get some, brought up praying mantises, and how the female eats the male after they do it. I may have said "why yes, I think the female rips the males head off." Which may have been enough to kill the mood for DH. We'll see how it goes today. I can't do needy 5 year olds on 4 hours of sleep. I have to teach in a few.
The gentleman caller changed the complexion of next weekend. I was planning on hanging with DH and missy at a cub scout event all day Saturday. I think that's a bad idea. I don't want to invite the possibility of DD1 sneaking out/sneaking a boy in right off the bat. And if DD1 leaves the house, that leaves the peanut alone by herself. She's an immature 11. I'd be OK with it if I were in town and just schlepping, that's one thing. Out of town and an alone and an emergency pops up, and I think is inviting an issue, especially if DD1 "forgets" to tell the peanut she's leaving. And, yes, I know new teenaged couples have been left alone for thousands of years and most of the time nothing goes wrong. And 11 year olds have been locked out of the house all day long in the 80s, and they survived. And DD1 is the kid that never pulls shit, except for the once every 3 years that she tries something, and that's a doozie. She's due for one of those any time now.
And, because she shares like nothing, it's hard to know whether or not I can trust her.
I'm too old for this shit.

I am tired. DH was arguing with himself all night.
He'd stop and I would fall back asleep. Then He'd go again. I was going to smother him with my pillow.
Hope whatever the disagreement was about was worth it and he better have won.

I fell asleep on the couch last night, after a really shitty ending to the ND/OSU game. I woke up around 5am, and just stayed there. another load of laundry is done and waiting to be folded, and I'm farting around on my laptop while I watch the news. there wasn't a newspaper in my driveway this morning, for the first time in at least a couple months. that's irritating.
the weather is supposed to continue to suck today, boo. I do need to make an ATM run before heading out to a concert tonight, someone else bought the tickets, and for some reason Zelle kept failing when I'd try to pay him for mine.

I fell out of bed this morning.
Well, not exactly. I rolled out of the waterbed (don’t laugh) to go pee this morning. This is how I get out of bed, to avoid dislocating my hips. Normally, I then use my nightstand as support to stand up. Last night, I left my nightstand drawer open and rather than my left hand going to the corner of the nightstand for support, it slipped off the open drawer, and down I went, hard on my left knee.
I hear this ‘do you need help?’ from TD. No, once I can get onto my hands and knees, I can walk myself up to standing. Luckily, my sister didn’t come charging in, because I made one hell of a thump, and if the thumps didn’t wake her, m6 cussing did.
I now have a nice, bug bruise popping up on my knee.
