Had surgery last Friday . Dr said doing very well but it’s a struggle. Didn’t eat for a week , yesterday had some food but didn’t stay. Today better ate 6 spoons of cream of rice with brown sugar. Had few sips of milk other than ice chips first liquid. I’m getting up and walking a little with nurse and walker Get a colonoscopy even if you’re over 75! I hope each day gets better.

Take care of yourself and don't try to do too much too soon. Find some movies and shows to watch. Get lots of sleep and lots of protein when you're able to promote healing.

So sorry, jerseygirl, that you had to undergo surgery, but glad that you got it done. Is your DS there with you now? I also agree with getting a colonoscopy even if you're over 75. When I had my last one at 70, the doc said to return in 10 years. I didn't think they recommended it past a certain point. But I will certainly be lining up for the test when I turn 80. Are you on a low residue diet for now?

Yes, I agree and in a few years I will get a colonoscopy. If you are still ok and hope to live quite awhile yet. It's like we would like to give our son all our money but as I said to hubs, one or both of us could easily live another 10 or even 20 years, so we will need some of it. I hope there is money left to help them pay off their home.
My kitties are happy now. Getting loving from Smoke and Tigger climbed up and draped over my legs and feet for awhile this morning. That was what he liked to do before. So the boys are being lovey again. But they like hubs too, he has been so good to them. He was saying how I didn't feed them like he does, I need to do that as he is very regimented about things like that. They both headed for their room last night with no issue. But I let Smoke stay up with me for quite some time. He fell asleep on my lap, he has been talking and talking to me. Chirping, meowing, and purringf, wish I knew what he was thinking and saying.
The solar company took out the snap connector deals on the panels and wired direct into the boxes, and all is working great now. We have accumulated almost 1000 kwh's of excess generation over usage. It will help with a couple of bills this winter. Hubs used little, like 480kwh's per month, it will up this month with me doing lots of laundry and using the dryer and d/washer.
Ok, back at it. Want to get the house stuff done today so I can work on the landscaping mess tomorrow. Than the next day help at the rental, hubs wants to get it listed this weekend, I agree. If we can sell it for enough and the taxes aren't bad we hope to give some of the money to son. I would like to give him half, hubs said he had no problem with that. So crossing our fingers we can do that.

Yes it is and blood clots can also be. Sounds like pulmonary embolism and they can be deadly, too. And the blood clot was most likely the result of the CHF and the heart not pumping properly. And may explain his cognitive issues, if not enough oxygen is getting to his brain.

My mom had COPD too and that really hurt her. She was in ICU for awhile and just totally out of it. After that never fully recovered her cognitive abilities. She didn't last long after that either.
But to have a blood transfusion, he must have something else going on. The way he is acting something is definitely wrong, just too much off the wall stuff he is doing. He may not have dementia but I think we all agree his actions are far from normal. Be interesting to hear what they have discovered.
I am not concerned about hubs care if he needs any. DD's caseworker always asks me if I need help, she has money budgeted in for someone to come in and help me with her care, or cleaning, or things like that. And medicare really encourages care be done at home, so if hubs has to have surgery or becomes ill I can get help with him too. I can also hire people to mow if needed, so we should be ok for quite some time unless I become ill too. But as it is right now I don't see that happening. I have always been able to rise to the occasion when needed, lets hope I can still do it if necessary.
My DIL thinks I am really tough to be able to care give like I always have. It bothered me for years than I finally decided why? I have got to do a lot of what I have wanted to do. Would like to have traveled more but my feet keep me from doing a lot of that sadly, and none of that is her fault. And if I really want to go hubs will keep her, so its ok. And we should be able to take care of us financially for quite some time, so I am happy we are in the spot we are in. I love him and will do whatever is needed if he needs care.
I just hope we luck out like we always have on health issues and its minor instead of major. At least we will find out next week. His test is Tuesday at 8AM. I'm sure I will get a bit more nervous as the time comes closer, right now I'm ok.

I just went to look at another rental. Nobody was there. I called and they said they have an application in for the house so it's not available. Could you have bothered to tell me?! They said I should have gotten an email. I did, it was a reminder about the appointment, not a cancelation. I hate people. It was a nice house too!

Can you be put on a waitlist in case the prospective renter's application is denied or the renters decide against that place?
I know, it doesn't change the fact that they should have let you know.

I honestly don't want to give them any money after them doing that. They asked if I wanted to look at a different property. I told them if they can't have common courtesy for others, I don't want to do business with them. Also, I have another property I'll be looking at over the weekend.

I never realized how crazy it is trying to find a place to live is. I grew up in my house and bought it from my parents. I've never had to do this before.

Honestly, I don’t think his Dad will live much longer. He’s already been saying stuff about dying and just waiting to die, and going to see his wife. I think he’s given up and that’s part of the reason he’s been refusing to even try to do anything for himself. I know palliative care is not the same as hospice, but he doesn’t even seem to have the will to live. These last 12 months have been pretty horrible for Mister, and I’ve been sad, watching him go through all of it. I’d rather Mr. Messy keep being Mr. Messy and keep getting on my darn nerves than for him to suffer and die. Have they ever diagnosed him with anything? It just seems so bizarre to me that he'd in such bad shape at 69. I agree with you, and it's not all that bizarre to me. My maternal grandmother passed away in her early 60s. I was in 4th grade. She had diabetes, and complications from that. She lost her eyesight. Refused help. Council of the blind offered to have folks help her use a cane, learn how to fold money, etc, etc. Refused all of it. Rather than be independent my grandma thought the better option was to be in a dysfunctional relationship with my mom. Now, my grandma was in her 50s. Even back then, it wasn't like her life was over.
I actually have no idea what my grandma died from. My mom told me one story when I was younger and another version after my dad died. Which, is pretty bizarre.
One of my old work colleagues was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was 57 when she passed. She was probably diagnosed by the time she was 55. She chose not to treat it. Instead, she went to Yoga retreats, Tony Robbins workshops, and tried to really eat a clean diet.
I can't imagine giving up on life like that. I'm 48, so not that much younger than her when it all went down. She also had a lot of dysfunction in her life. Her relationship with her mom, her marriage was bad, and the divorce even worse. She had a kid, their relationship was not good.
I don't know why/how some people are wired to behave one way and others another way.
Even if I had a bad relationship with my kids, I would do every damn thing in my power to keep myself upright. I can't imagine giving up on them like that.

Buying freon off the web is out, not because it isn't legit but we'd still be without AC for a week. Dad gave us the name of a guy he has used before and trusts so DH called him. He said try replacing the filter and when it is this hot run the AC on Fan which we have not been doing. He said if it's freezing up then there is still freon in it, maybe not a lot but we're not out yet. He said see if those work and then call him back.
He also sells/installs so we'll talk to him if it comes to that. I told DH get his opinion on if we HAVE to replace the furnace at the same time. Listening to DH talk about the guy last year and doing some price Comparisions ourselves I think DH got hosed. I want to know if 100% beyond a doubt the furnace has to go or was that guy trying to upsell us.
Because another smaller guy said we don't need anything fancy. A unit our current size runs about $2500 and we could use all the current infrastructure he didn't say anything about having to replace it all.
So now I want a third opinion. The furnace itself works fine and while I get the logic of replacing it all at once that is A LOT of money. If I don't have to throw that much around at once I'd prefer to hold onto to the remaining cash and kick that can a bit farther down the road. We can't be the only house that has a mish mash of a new AC and old furnace around here.

Our furnace is 25 years old. DH thinks we don't have to replace it this year the heat exchanger is like 10 years old, and we just got the new blower motor thing. Though, I think parts will become an issue at some point.

well, this week's crazy fire that came to a head this morning is now all but out. just waiting on confirmation that the truck is packed to move the lot in question, and we will be all set.
after my last call at 1, which was much quicker than it usually is, I decided to throw the pups in the house and do a quick run to the grocery store. LD hasn't really licked his incision after the first few days, so I was okay with the risk. I am now sitting on the deck with a cocktail and a spicy tuna roll, knocking out some electronic training. I'm checking my inbox periodically to see if anything else has blown up, but when I turn on my OOO message later this afternoon, I will be shutting down all of my work apps til next Wednesday morning.

eta: speaking of missing people though. I was perusing some really old posts (like 2010ish). So many regulars that have bailed on the group since then.

Same here. We just don't have the cash flow right now to be doing both if we could avoid it. If the furnace is working and currently all it needs is a $20 ceramic ignition once and while why replace it? The AC has to be replaced even if it was still working because R-22 Freon is being discontinued and what is available is getting $$$. $2500 is much more doable than $6-7k right now. Then when things start dropping off next year I can put that towards a new furnace fund.

I wouldn't have thought to be wary of HVAC companies trying to upsell us. I have a relatively new system, just about 5 years old now, and had a service contract for twice-a-year service. The first time they came it was recommended I get surge protectors for the furnace and the AC unit. It was like $500 for the two. The next time they came, they tried to get me to buy a UV light because they "thought" mold "might" be growing in the vents, and they showed me a photo which may or may not have been my vents. I declined that one. Then I called them for an emergency plumbing repair, a leaking pipe in my crawl space. A copper pipe had sprung a pinhole leak. Obviously it needed to be fixed, sooner rather than later. They replaced 2 feet of copper pipe at most. It was a quick thing, easy for them to identify, the actual repair took, at most, 15 minutes (as opposed to paperwork, pricing it out, me agreeing, writing a check, me resisting the guy's suggestion that I go on to Google and leave him (by name) a glowing review, etc. -- as had the man who got me to buy the surge protectors), and the bill came to almost $600. Obviously with a plumbing leak I am not going to be shopping around trying to compare costs, but it was an outrageous price.
I will never call that company again. At an earlier time, two licensed plumbers were here for about 3 hours. It cost me about $1,300. I would have called them to do this repair but as a small operation I didn't know how well they were equipped to deal with emergencies in the middle of the day. I figured they'd already be on a job somewhere.

I'm wondering if my boss actually works. I never talk to her. She doesn't answer my emails or phone calls. She's always out on PTO. I don't really mind not being bothered, but every now and then I have questions that need to be answered.

I keep wondering when my AC is finally going to throw in the towel. I use it way more than most people this far north (like, it's on all summer for the most part) and have only had someone out once to service it once in 24 years. The furnace is 24 too, but it's had lots of things replaced on it in the past couple years. Sometimes I think about being per-emptive, but if HVAC systems are anything like appliances I could be replacing solid units with new pieces of crap, so I'm probably better off waiting for their natural death than doing that.

Waiting on a tow. Low tire pressure light came on. I thought it was due to temperature change overnight. Stopped to check, and saw a nail in one. No spare in Teslas means waiting on a tow - after an hour on the phone with roadside assistance, who could not even locate the closest rental place for a replacement car. Well, they couldn't until I just told them to have the truck take me back to where I rented it and if Budget doesn't have a vehicle I'll just rent from another company in the complex. Tow will take me to the Wichita airport for a replacement, about another hour away. If it wasn't that I'd be driving high speeds I would have just headed to the airport instead of dealing with all that mess. That's miserable. Especially in almost 100 degree weather. But the tow guy was super sweet. He showed up around 11, and I was in a new vehicle by 1230. I just want to go home, but I am collaborating with my manager on the visit and taking notes. Flight is at 6AM tomorrow, so I have a legitimate reason to bow out of any evening plans.

any tennis fans in here? if so, I apologize for spoilers. I'm streaming the US Open on my phone this week and next while I'm using the laptop for work. first, some history - way back in 2010, two men set the record for a 5th set in a Major - taking 8h over two days for their final set, before John Isner (USA) prevailed over Nicolas Mahut (FRA) at Wimbledon - 70-68. Wiki reference I remember watching parts of that match, and I managed to catch the eventual end of it by stroke of luck. that record will never be surpassed, as all four Majors have since adopted a tiebreaker rule for the final set of a match. it varies by Major tournament, but there is a limit. a few weeks back, John Isner announced that he was retiring from Singles play after the US Open. well, today he ended his Singles career by losing a 5th set tiebreaker - the rule that he had a hand in creating. I wish him well in his retirement, but whoooo that irony brought tears to my eyes.
