I love fresh oranges, but I really hate that my hands will now smell like an orange for the rest of the day. I just had a juicy cara cara one for lunch. yum! I never notice that my hands smell like oranges for long and I eat a lot of them - but maybe I just don't notice because I like the smell? Not sure if it will help but after I cut jalapeños I cant wash the smell/sting off my hands so I run my fingers through my hair on my scalp and that gets rid of it every time. I keep a box of latex gloves in the kitchen for this purpose. I have rubbed my eyes too many times (even after thoroughly washing them) and dealt with the aftermath.

NJ goes plastic bag free in grocery stores effective May 4th, although one of the ones I go to had no plastic bags on Sunday. Maybe they ran out early? My biggest concern is buying fresh meat. I wonder if we will get small bags to wrap fresh meat and poultry in? How are NJ posters dealing with this and anyone elsewhere who has already been through it? WA has been plastic bag less for 10+ years now. Little bags are available for meat and produce, but not for groceries at check out. During Covid, they rescinded this for awhile, but we are back to normal now. Even clothes stores provide no bags. I remember going into Kohl’s to buy a couple bras and bringing them out to the car wadded up in my hands as…no bags.

I believe the Bay Area has been plastic bag less for a similar period with the same early Covid exception as early on it was believed that surface infection risk was large (so no bags were allowed to be brought into the stores). However, I don't run into the problem of forgetting my bags as I always have a few of those foldable nylon bags in my purse. In other words: if I have my wallet I have bags as they live in the same place.

Good morning! It's storming here and the boy woke me up early. I don't know if it was because he had to go out or because of the storms. There's a lot of water on the ground, so it's been raining for a while. I can't see the gauge to see how much we got. It's too dark still. Not a lot on today's agenda. I think DH won't be working in the yard with the rain. That kind of puts off the pool as well. I'll maybe do a load of laundry and call it a day. Hoping you all have a great one!

Good morning, distinguished denizens of Y Ma'am, made visible in your words on my laptop screen. Happy Tuesday. I hope your day is indeed happy and offers to you two deserts in which you can delight without regrets.
I have no appointments or requirements today to be anywhere at a particular time. I will be reaching out to another lender so I can compare offers of at least 2, ideally 3. The house inspection is at 3:30. My brother will be there.
I got the seller's disclosures late yesterday. Nothing of note aside. Dampness in the basement. A broken seal on one window. Unknown roof age, unknown lead paint.
My wrist is healing but still is painful, especially at the end and beginning of the day, or when I use it much. There is a bony lump where the fracture was. The powerful magic that is the body amazes me. To build new bone but only where it is needed! Despite overuse and the less than good diet of the past 2 months as we packed up and moved.
My county in Maryland began charging $.05 per shopping bag at least 10 years ago. We adapted, bought reuseable bags and moved on. For certain stores I always chose to buy the very good bags, such as Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. I like the paper bags with handles they offer.

Need to buy crickets tomorrow. Crestie the crested gecko attacked the gray felt glove and tried to eat it. Really hope he did not ingest the small bit he managed to rip off. I didn’t know you had lizards? I only know of your Guinea piggie. We were the nursing home for small animals. We took home the class lizard in grade 3, took top notch care of the fellow, and apparently allowed him to die a happy lizard.

Finnime, glad the wrist is healing, leaving you with a war scar but stronger than ever. Hopefully the pain subsides soon, I know it takes a while.

I remember going into Kohl’s to buy a couple bras and bringing them out to the car wadded up in my hands as…no bags. The stores cut back on them in my area (KS/MO) but also brought them back during COVID. They'd begun by offering a 1 cent/bag discount if your brought your own but most stopped that after people got into the habit. Back when we weren't sure how COVID was transmitted, if you brought cloth bags you had to pack them yourself. I'm still crocheting mats for the homeless out of plastic bags and each one takes about 300 bags. People at church and family members save their bags for me. I feel a bit guilty for "enabling" plastic bag use but at least they're not blowing around, stuck to trees and floating in streams. Read this, we may be in for shortages again. No links in your post. Yes, shortages continue. For some reason I haven't been able to get bananas at Costco for the last month or so. I'll deal with them as they happen- no need to panic-buy and make shortages worse. I'm going to mow the lawn today- we had a cold, rainy day yesterday and it really needs it. Garden Club meeting later this morning.

So ends another day. I'm tired. I've made it through all the major tasks for today. Need to remember next time I'm in a grocery store: baking powder. Without it, couldn't make biscuits for the strawberry shortake. Used pound cake instead. I wanted strawberry shortcake, too. I was too lazy to bake anything, so I made a waffle instead. It was better than shortcake! Easier, too!

I don’t know why I am having such a hard time reverting to my old habits, especially since I get so pissed that the paper bags I pay for rip before I can get them out of the car!

We've been using cloth bags that stand up on their own for many years. Last week 3 were taken from my cart while I left it to get something. The stores don't sell them anymore, just bags the don't stand up. I bought a pack of 3 online. I like how much the cloth bags hold and ease of carrying them.

Melk Abbey this morning. It was absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, no photography inside. We walked from the Abbey into town, wandered about the town a bit, then walked back to the ship.
We have reservations tonight at a winery….as if I’ve not drunk my weight in wine so far this trip!
Last night, the ship put on a Bavarian/Austrian feast. OMG! So much food, including handmade pretzels and cheeses. I was miserable last night, it was all so good.
A taxi with our friend is supposed to meet the ship in Krems this evening.

I don't post much about Crestie as he's nocturnal and he doesn't make much noise. The big thing he does is try to get to the nozzle of the spray bottle as he likes his water when he gets up. Moon Shadow is much noisier and is currently munching on his romaine lettuce. He's a lot of work so I post about him more.

You keep mentioning possible side trips for my Munich trip next week and I'm running out of days! I know things can change from day to day and will continue to monitor but how many hoops are you having to jump through to get into various countries? I'm also thinking about Strasbourg to I can use my French, too, but don't want to have to download another app, etc., and hope it all works- I get tempted just to stay in Germany and Malta.

I go to get my hair cut and colored this morning then lunch with the family and going to the farm stand for strawberries and asparagus. It’s been so much fun having DD and the grandkids here.

DD13 rocked her role as Princess Fiona in last night's school musical. DH and I were both fighting back tears watching her perform her heart out. So glad she and her cast mates were able to pull off a good show despite the lack of teacher guidance. Now, on to 8th grade questioning night on Thurs and confirmation on Saturday.

We have not had to jump through any hoops on the ship. Going from Netherlands to Germany, and now Austria has been pretty easy. However, I’m not sure what going across the land borders is like. I guess I probably should do some research on this, we get dumped off the Bragi in Budapest, are spending 3 days here and are getting on a train to Prague for an additional 3 days before flying home. Im really getting spoilt on our cabin. When Covid canceled us for 2021, we took the 125% voucher and upgraded our room. Now, we just toss all our laundry into a bag and it comes back the next day all clean! I can get used to this!

The pattern of shortages at the groceries is interesting. I'm hearing that many of the items are missing not because they are in short supply, but their container is. Certain sizes of aluminum cans, round cardboard canisters like oatmeal comes in, etc. are supposedly hard to source

I am also sad because I'm really missing Beth. When I discovered I was pregnant with the Missy, the first person aside from DH that I told was Beth. I could have an honest, non-judgemental conversation with her. It was a huge gift at the time, to be given space to be heard without being pushed on way or the other.
I knew enough to know that I had to choose for myself so I could be OK with that choice. I can't imagine being forced into a decision. I'm all too familiar with what happens when parents resent their children. It contributed to my mom's issues.
Of all the unfair things in this world, losing Beth so early is right up there at the top.

A couple of weeks, my DH’s best friend’s oldest DD was an assistant director of her school’s middle school play, Moana. The night we went was the last night. The best friend couldn’t go but his wife, youngest DD, myself and both DDs went. My DH was helping his best friend (they were moving that day). After the play ended, the director had words for many adults and kids that were apart of the play. When they got the friend’s oldest DD, all the kids chanted her name. It was so cool and made both her mom and I cry. FWIW, we’ve been friends since before we had kids. I’m glad your DD’s play went off great!

UPDATE: Plumber was awesome, cleared clog ASAP, noticed my kitchen sink aerator was clogged and gave me a new one, gave me tips on keeping the line going, and talked about how they could install a backyard clean-out. We've talked about that from time to time but there was always something else to spend the $$ on. Today's visit was only $320 or so, so I am doing the happy dance thing b/c the main drain thing would be $20,000+. My double CDB gummy worked and DH is still alive. Cat crapped on the floor twice and he's still alive too.
I'm waiting on the plumber for the kitchen sink clog, praying it's not a sign of the main drain collapsing, and trying really hard not to let DH get on my nerves.

Working and watching DD2 in my little baby jail. It’s keeping her away from the litter boxes and somewhat contained. She’s in the midst of getting her upper 2 front teeth so she’s bitting down on anything right now.
Need to get back to work. I actually have to go into the office tomorrow and need to stay longer than I had planned, but oh well.

giramomma, I have been missing Beth too - especially with so many things happening at the supreme court. She loved to point those things to us and start interesting threads.

I also have random days when I miss her. We met up for cocktails a few times, but there are days like today when we know she would have posted a link to a Supreme Court legal site, and days I just wonder how her kids and her DH are doing. I thought of her recently when I drove past Outpost Natural Foods, b/c that is one of the places her DH liked to shop for food. Do you need a Girls night? I can work something out with you. Just let me know.

How about a small hint so I can go read about what has you down tonight? I live in a purple state, with Red Gerrymandering. I quipped to my husband about an hour ago that based on leaked news, I guess I'll be encouraging my girls to move to a true blue state right after HS. I can't even find out if I can post on the politics section. It's a hot button issue.
Yes, I am interested in this subject too. If we want to discuss it do we need a password for a different page?
