I made a new to us dinner that is basic af, but I am super impressed with myself over. I'm really not feeling well, but somehow I'm still supposed to feed the beasts. I didn't have any of my staples, except stuff to grill and I think they might revolt if I do burgers again. Anyway, I'm staring in the pantry hoping something magically appears when I notice a package of Spanish rice, chicken broth, and I had a package of chicken tenders in the fridge. I sautéed the tenders for a couple minutes per side, took them off the heat, boiled the chicken broth, added the rice, seasoning, added the chicken back, covered, and voila. Dinner! That they all ate! I might add more next time when I feel better, but again- Dinner! Dh added some bell peppers to the table so there were vegetables. I love it when simple dinners come together.

I may not survive this meeting. I can't wait to be done with these contracts.
I want to strangle this lady and it just keeps dragging up everything I went through with my grandma.

Waving at finnime, mourning with Drama and wvugurl, frustrated on gira’s behalf and appalled at the sheer amount Pink is having to deal with right now.

Rant warning! I went to get my hair trimmed at the little walk-in Great Clips place I've used for 4-5 years now. You check in with your phone # and they print out notes on how you like it cut. Except this morning, I'm not in the system. Do I have another phone? No. Lo and behold, corporate has decided to consolidate the database and combine all customers at the same address under one phone # so they put me under my husband's phone #. This is 2023, not 1953, and I'm now a former client. Expand your database fools.

I was looking here to see what YMAM had to say about the Frontier Airlines $29 tix. From what I've seen about Frontier, I would never fly with them. If Spirit is the Walmart of airlines, Frontier is the garage sale version. ETA: Where are you going for $29? I'm intrigued. I used to fly Frontier. I will never fly them again. From the two places they fly from around here, they only fly every other day so if your flight gets canceled, you are SOL.

I have an account taking me down to the wire and it's driving me crazy! If I don't get this bound today, their whole company is going to come to a screeching halt at midnight. I swear I care more about these people's companies than they do at times. I hate people.

Finnime, that's a gorgeous apartment! Is it very expensive? It would cost a small fortune here. The rental prices are crazy.

Shit just keeps getting worser and worser, and I got really, really tired a lil while ago. TIRED, TIRED. Yup. Fingers crossed we get some relief soon.
I hope your day is getting better, Pink. Mine, it's gotten so bad I can't even make this stuff up even if I tried. Like. I'm resorting to just laughing.

I don't even have a cellphone. Does that mean they wouldn't cut my hair? No, it can be a landline if you don't have a cell # One of my friends is always after me to get a cellphone. "Get with the program! Be a part of this century!" I can't imagine why I'd need a cellphone. I don't have a SO who needs to text me constantly. I don't have little kids in school or at camp. I'm usually home, so anyone can just reach me here on my landline. Is it so I'll have something to do on the bus or the subway, like all the other people who have their noses stuck in their phones and are completely unaware of anything going on around them? Is it to make selfies that I'll never look at again? Besides, cellphone plans are insanely expensive here.

I also think it's a good security thing to own, as there are no longer any pay phones on the streets here. In case of a medical emergency away from home, how would you get help?

I'm being a lazy butt today. last night, my friend K (the travelling nurse) came down to hang out and have dinner with L and me. we stayed up past midnight, catching up on life and work stuff. I mixed up a few rounds of my (in)famous pistachio martinis by request, and we were all dragging a bit this morning. I had an early alarm to bring the pups to daycare, K slept in late and has to work an overnight tonight, and L took a nap a couple hours ago.
this won't make much sense to more than andi, empress and finnime who have actually been here, but it is what it is. it's oppressively humid, so I stayed in the A/C and retreated to my bedroom with my laptop when I realized the noise from my am calls would drift downstairs to where K was sleeping on the couch. L has taken over my office for the week. so I've been alternating between sitting and lying around on my bed, depending on what my participation level is in the calls. so very much not my normal speed.

I didn't have it on me when I passed out in the street. A crowd gathered around around me. One lady went through my purse and called my son. Another called an ambulance. Another put her sweater under my head. One stayed with me until DS showed up and everything was resolved. No worries about a health emergency.

I’m very sorry that your day has gotten so bad. I wish I could be there with you now and do whatever you would need a good friend to do, hug you tight, chit chat, dance around, or just sit down and shut up and be an undemanding, comforting presence while you knit or whatever you need to do. Things will get better for us both. I have to believe that.

It's a good thing, I love this little boy. He doesn't want to go home, LOL! He has practically moved in. I told him today I need to go to Home Depot and get Kilz and stuff so he might want to go home. He said no grandma I like doing that too. However, his moms taking him swimming this afternoon so I'm going to go ahead and get it while he is gone.
His mom tried to lure him home with some food he liked the other the other evening, he said no I'm eating here. I make him mind and don't let him do all the stuff he wants so it isn't like he gets his way all the time or anything like that. I'm glad he likes it here but I think it makes his mom feel bad sometimes.
But he is really wanting to go to Indiana and spend some time with grandpa, I tried to get DIL to come down too if she will be lonely.
I haven't done much today and I need to work in that bathroom. I'm kind of tired. I have to get all the tuffs of wallpaper cut around the edges, painting over that would look awful.

It took a kid moving to the other side of the world for me. I did not want to sit at home waiting for a call, nor did I want to miss a call so I "folded" and got a cell phone. I ditched the landline not long after as I am not in favor of paying for any service twice.

But I also keep my cell phone available in case of emergency. And I have used it for that a few times. (So has the hospital ER, to get contact information.) Just saying... You never know when you're going to need it.

I got my first cellphone back in the 90's when I began commuting 100 miles a day on the freeway and had to have a way to call for help in case of breakdown or to notify DH if I was going to be late due to traffic. I upgraded to a smartphone back in 2013 when I began my volunteer work as it was essential for communications. We finally upgraded the alarm system to cellular and got rid of the landline last year. By then the landline had gone up to $128 per month. I don't know how anyone could travel now without a phone because all the airline schedule changes, notifications on a cruise, hotel confirmations etc. come via text. If you are waitlisted at a restaurant or a salon, they use texts to alert you when they have availability. My doctor just sent me a text to confirm my appointment next week.

We had big, clonky work cell phones before I retired. They were extremely cheap.
Then I did pay as you go phones until I moved here and it didn't get service.
I eventually got with the times and have an iPhone and no landline. I do not miss that landline.
I also have quiet hours on my phone so I can control when I receive calls that actually ring.

Everyone else is blocked between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. My phone # is public info so I had to set some boundaries.

Pink Cashmere I'm so glad you picked up that phone and helped guide your son in wise choices. The world is a scary weird place I no longer understand. I am sure the event was doubly hard on you as a mother. I’m glad I picked up the phone too. And I’m glad he trusted me enough to call me in the first place, and to listen to me when I was telling him what to do while I was on my way to him. I have been pretty much numb all day. There are a lot of stressful situations where I will wring my hands and run around in circles like an idiot, not knowing what to do. But defending and protecting my children and grandchildren is not one of those situations. The person that left my home yesterday is the person that I am kind of afraid of, even though anything I did yesterday if things went left after I got to my son, would’ve been justified in my mind, regardless of laws and opinions. That’s why I tried so hard years ago to learn to be peaceful, and just want to live my life and for people to leave me and mine alone if they don’t mean us any good. Lately, I’ve been talking here about being so angry all the time. I’m starting to feel like a crazy person again. One of the things that went wrong yesterday was I’d actually made an appointment with a new therapist yesterday, then realized the appointment wouldn’t work after I saw my work hours are changing. I rescheduled it this morning though. It’s in a couple of weeks, and I really hope this lady can help me. I think I was so volatile before, because I was repressing a lot of stuff instead of dealing with it. I didn’t know how to deal with it. I went to counseling for 2 or 3 years when my children were teens, and I can’t name even one thing I learned from it. I learned more when I gave up on wasting my money and time, and started searching for answers on my own. Now, not only am I feeling crazy again, but my physical health is suffering because my mental health has gone sideways again. Whatever I need to root out and deal with, face, whatever, I’m ready to just do it and be mentally and physically healthy. Even as a young child, I knew that what evil people did to me said nothing about me, and everything about them. I could float away and see the evil person and the helpless child, and feel compassion for the child and what was happening to her, knowing it was not her fault. I’ve always thought I at least had that worked out in my mind, that nothing anyone bigger, stronger, and especially much older than me did to me that was harmful, was EVER my fault, and I still think I’ve always understood that, but maybe just with my brain, and not in some other part of me that needs to “get it” too? Idk, but something is clearly still not right with me, mentally and/or emotionally. So if somebody can help me face my demons, whatever they are, which i hope this new therapist can do, I’m game. I just want to be free.

I have a landline and a cell phone. For years I was on my Dad's business plan and he could see no reason why I would need a smart phone and it wasn't important to me. Three years ago I broke away and got my own plan and an iphone.
Where I live now has horrid cell phone reception. I basically have to stand in the front entry way next to the front door or next to the furnace to be able to talk with people. Texting works fine, just not voice calls. I also now need a cell phone for an authorization number to use when doing remote logon for work. The main reason I got the landline when I moved was because of my Mom. She thinks to call a cellphone she needs to use her cellphone and she doesn't always remember how to make a call on the cell. After discovering how horrid my reception is here I appreciate being able to call businesses and be able to sit at my desk and take notes etc and not worry about a dropped call. I'm in a rural area and there aren't any of the cell companies that say they provide good service for our area.

I got my first cell phone soon after I got married. I got married in 1991!
I remember that sometime between me graduating high school and my first cell phone, phones in cars came first. Then the big portable phones that I want to say required some kind of big bag or something? The technology exploded quickly, going from phones in cars to mobile phones in just a couple years or so in ways that were available to regular people.
My ex husband and I had just 1 cell phone back then. That was when there were no free “minutes”, texting wasn’t a thing, and Al Gore’s Internet certainly wasn’t on small devices, if it was even a thing yet. One day, my ex husband was coming back to the car after having gone inside the store at a gas station and some woman asked him, what are you doing with a cell phone, are you a drug dealer? As if he would’ve said “why yes, I do sell illegal drugs”, even if that had been the truth. What kind of stupid question was that to ask a random stranger? Or maybe she just wanted to get his attention and couldn’t think of anything more sensible to say.
I have had a cell phone ever since.

Thanks for asking. Had another immunotherapy treatment today. The oncologist is very pleased for results of the PET scan. Tumor is much smaller. YAY!! I need to make appointment with surgeon, he’ll decide if I should have surgery or more treatments first. ODS knows surgeon and said he’s very good. I’m blessed to be able to have much milder immunotherapy and it’s effective and a lovely oncologist , and son who also treats cancer patients and a supportive family and a lovely housekeeper!!!

I no longer work. I no longer have a car. I no longer travel. When I need to go to a salon, I make an appointment, show up, and he's ready for me. My doc calls me on me landline to make appointments and then confirm them. Cell phone plans are EXPENSIVE here, the highest on the planet. 170% more than Aaustralia. I can't justify the cost. cansumer.ca/canada-phone-plan-pricing/
